    Great video. I was trying to use my m50 for Zoom meetings and considered purchasing sparkocam or an overpriced capture card. After much research I learned I could use the canon EOS utility software to remove the AF box in live veiw, then use OBS to window capture the EOS utility software's live veiw that now has no AF box, and use an OBS virtual webcam plugin so Zoom recognizes OBS as webcam. It took a few days to work out but it seems like the combination of the EOS utility software and OBS gives you many features that sparkocam does and it's all free with (IMO) indistinguishable video quality.

      Colin Holmes Yeah, I don’t think quality from OBS was ever an issue but the hassle of OBS which has a steep learning curve for most and not worth the trouble for most entrepreneurs.
      Reliability and dependability is huge for my audience and most don’t want to fiddle with OBS, and I get it.
      OBS absolutely works but for the time it takes to setup and do all the things.. is that the best use of someone’s time and energy or pay for a service that has it figured out - something each person has to decide. Wasn’t worth it for me but I’m glad you found something that works for ya! No wrong way to Go Live!

    2:28 I would read the specs on the box and look for the words "data cable" because that's what they call it. Glad I found your video. The canon M50 has been a headache for awhile and kept me from live streaming the way I'd like. Subscribed and definitely signing up for Ecamm through the description! Thank you.

      Drost Video Hmm, That’s something I’ve not encountered before but I would check the streaming frame rate and then there’s a lag adjustment slider in Ecamms settings. If it’s off a couple frames you can adjust it from one to ten frames to dial it in. See if that works for you!

    Thanks for your video Diana. Your email announcements are very effective. I have tried Sparkocam to use my m50 as a webcam for conference calls (overkill, I know) and to stream in the near future. I liked the picture quality a lot so I will definitely pull the trigger when the time comes. In the meantime I'm playing around with other apps (no capture card and no Sparkocam) with encouraging results.

      Diana Gladney - EntreWoman TV Their webcam utility is still “beta”. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. SparkoCam is consistent which is good. When the Canon webcam utility becomes stable, I’ll be able to use it in conjunction with SparkoCam to get a 2 camera setup going on OBS. Until then...one camera is better than no camera.

    In your description you said if you are using a Canon camera then ECamm live is the best way to live stream. Is that a typo? Did you mean if you are on a Mac? Then Ecamm live is the best way to go?
    Mac- Ecamm live
    PC- Sparkocam
    This cable is necessary in order to transfer photos and videos from your phone to your laptop as well.

    • @DianaGladney
      @DianaGladney  Рік тому

      Nope, not a typo. Ecamm is the still the best when live streaming with Canon cameras, especially those without Clean HDMI out like the Canon M50 Mark 1.
      I no longer recommend Sparkocam, it just isn’t worth the hassle for the cost. If you’re not on a Mac, you can use the Canon Webcam utility software they released to live stream with another service like StreamYard.

      @@DianaGladney That is so cool! Yes your content is very informative and I have seen many channels in your niche and I have to say by far I enjoy yours the most because you are so articulate and explaining what you do. I do have a question, I upload a few times a week and every Wednesday I do a livestream I recently had to let go of my previous camera because I borrowed it from a friend of mine and I’m looking to get a camera that is affordable is easy to do live stream with and lately I’ve been loving canon Would you recommend the M 200 or the M 50content creation and live streaming? I’m so undecided I need some advice on that. Many blessings to you!
      Do you recommend any other camera ?

    • @DianaGladney
      @DianaGladney  3 роки тому +1

      So, I took a glance at your channel and I based on the type of videos that you make, there are a few things to consider and you can reply if I'm missing anything for you.
      Between the Canon M200 and M50 they are two different cameras. The M200 is really basic but is still a great camera. It doesn't have a lot of buttons and does not have a microphone input but does have clean HDMI out for live streaming. The Canon M50 Mark I has a different type of flip out screen, a headphone jack but not clean HDMI out. So, I honestly wouldn't recommend getting either as they're bother missing things you want to easily use for your videos.
      For the cost of those camera new, you could get the new M50 Mark 2 that has both clean HDMI out and has a bit more options when it comes to buttons and dials. Any 3 of these cameras will have a 30 minute recording limit for regular video content and okay battery life. If that isn't a problem for you and you want to keep it stupid simple and stay with Canon that may be the best option for you.
      If you want a higher ceiling when it comes to options with your video content and maybe get into some other things over the next 1-2 years, I wouldn't recommend any of the abovementioned cameras because they all have more shortcomings compared to other brands when it comes to video.
      Let me know what other content you're preparing to create specifically and then I can be more specific with a recommendation.

    • @ChrisGarcia.
      @ChrisGarcia. 3 роки тому +1

      @@DianaGladney wow great input! Okay that means so much to me that you would take the time to check my channel out. If you were me, what camera would you go for based on what you see on my channel?
      I typically do two types of video:
      1 sit down teaching explaining things
      2 livestream
      I’m completely open to other types of cameras. The camera that I used last time was A6600. Sony is great! I love canon too.
      But, I’m completely open to what you would recommend. I just want the ease of live-streaming and beautiful video quality. I want to produce good content ! And excellent quality!
      Hope that makes sense! Looking forward to hearing from you!

    • @DianaGladney
      @DianaGladney  3 роки тому +1

      Okay, I own that one now and use it almost daily.
      If you're already used to using Sony, that's exactly what I would suggest because there are more limitations you'll run into on Canon.
      So, The a6600 is a fantastic option. If the price is a bit much the a6400 is the next best option. Here's the major differences with the a6400:
      - Smaller battery/shorter battery life (I would suggest a power adapter)
      - No internal video stabilization (If you plan to vlog or something. If you do, make sure the lens has stabilization.)
      - No headphone jack
      Everything else is the same. There is a Sony a6100 but it's no point in really getting it because it has a 30 min recording limit and no picture profiles (if you later want to get into color grading footage) but otherwise all the other features of the a6400. So, go for the a6600 or the next best a6400 and if you need to save some dollars, buy used instead of brand new.

    I have watched video after video, and you are the only one who even mentions camera settings for shooting live. I think you are saying regular video settings are fine. I would love confirmation. When we record video we have our synchro scan on and the shutter speed is set to angle. What are the better file settings? Should we shoot 1080p or 720p for Facebook Live. Frame rate - 30p? Bit Rate? No one talks about this, so shall we assume that it doesn't matter? Just like regular recording? We do use capture cards. Thank you. I have subscribed.

      @DianaGladney  4 роки тому +1

      I prefer to shoot at 1080p 30 frames per second for most videos, especially for live streams. But yes, the same settings I would use for live streaming are the same I would use for a regularly recorded video. The capture card is just sharing that feed in a live stream is the only difference.

    I was finding that in EOS Utility, my Canon EOS M50 started to pause live feed after around 5 seconds.

Most of the Canon have worked minus a couple but you can get the trial version and test it. That way if it doesn’t work it’s not a waste of money if it won’t work for you.

    Hi Diana! Thanks for your clear instructions on how to set up a video flow without the 30 min limits. I own a Canon RP and it works fine, BUT I have a question: I am shooting videos up to 2 hours. When using Ecamm Live it seems like the quality of the video is far less good (more grainy) than when using Canon itself and a capture card. I have been looking into the Ecamm Live software, but can't find out where to control that. I have set the Video options in Ecamm to High Quality, H1080 and 25 fps. The size of the resulting mp4 file from the Ecamm is only 1/3 of that from the Canon RP. Any sugestions on how to get higher quality / more detailed videos when using Ecamm? I have been using the Movie mode in Canon. Is it better to use any of the other modes? Does that change anything? Thanks in advance, Bjarke

    • @DianaGladney
      @DianaGladney  4 роки тому

      Oh my pleasure Bjarke! You're in good company with plenty of other questions I've received on the same thing, I literally just uploaded a video to answer that. You can find it here and I share more on the Ecamm Settings: ua-cam.com/video/oVsiPf17KmA/v-deo.html
      However, I would say whatever you setting are in your camera, make sure you have also adjust you settings inside Ecamm Live to match that. Things can be off in a normal video if you have a 25fps video and you're editing it as if it were 30fps, you'd notice it not acting properly or trying to slow down 25 or 30fps in a video looks weird. So, we still have to abide by the regular camera settings rules when live streaming with a real camera.
      Lastly, make sure you have adjusted your settings as well as your lighting. Poor lighting live streaming can still be a problem as it is when recording normal videos and the last last tip lol Make sure you're connected via ethernet vs wifi when streaming. It makes a ton of difference in quality. Hope this helps.

      Hey there Katja! You actually cannot get audio from the M50 via USB or HDMI. Other cameras that have clean HDMI Out can transfer both audio and video but the M50 does not have that ability enabled from Canon. If you're wanting to have an audio option for live streaming you need to connect an audio source into your computer via USB or the headphone port or something like that specifically. I'll have a video coming out more about connectivity possibilities for audio to help show some other options but it's in the lineup of videos around the corner!

      So, a few options come to mind. I would honestly look into using some systems that are primarily for podcasting OR the easiest way to bring on the guest using Restream.io and and then your quality doesn’t suffer as much. Honestly with remote guests the Skype quality usually sucks because the guests connection sucks. So they have dropouts or lag if their computer is maxing out while live and mostly they use WiFi instead of Ethernet when streaming. Dropouts can occur with anything wireless though. So unless that person is going to record their footage on their camera and send it to you if it’s not live, its always a potential for the quality to drop.

    Hello, Diana! Thank you for this video. What lense would you recommend for live streaming for the Cannon M50?

    • @DianaGladney
      @DianaGladney  4 роки тому

      My pleasure Andres! Honestly there's no perfect lens for live streaming but it really depends on what you plan to do with the lens. The easiest recommendation is the Sigma 16mm for the M50 but above that, I would say use your kit lens and see which focal length you commonly use or will use and if that's, for example, about 24mm zoomed in on the kit lens, get a lens at that range. For me, I personally like 35mm for my recording area but that's specific to my area. So, if you have the camera zoom in to where you'd want it to be, shot wise, see what range that is and get a prime lens around that range. That way it's a lens for your area vs a blind recommendation from me online lol Hopefully that's more helpful in finding the right lens size for yourself.

      I’m not sure what would be the reason with the EOS Utility App. The old uninstall/reinstall might help but you don’t actually need that to live stream with this method. If you’re trying to identify which cable will work but you’re seeing your computer recognize it, just try that one. If you open Ecamm it Sparkocam and it’s the wrong cable, it won’t see the camera so that will be another way.

      Is it designed for working natively with other conferencing tools, no. If it was it’d be listed as having clean HDMI out to work with capture cards but it doesn’t. So options like these are workarounds to help with that.
      So, you can activate the virtual camera which will allow other conferencing tools to see “Ecamm Live Virtual Camera” as the camera option and it will pull in your camera feed that way. So through Ecamm you can, but the M50 on it’s own you can’t.

    • @DianaGladney

      One is the queue to be edited and uploaded for that specially but to answer your question here, nearly all Canon Cameras, minus probably the Canon R & RP and SL3, don't have the ability to pull the audio from the camera when live streaming. Canon turned that off internally for whatever reason, but HDMI in essence DOES have the ability to pull in both video and audio.
      If you're working with the M50, this is not possible on this specific camera. You would need to connect your audio either via USB or to use the mics you have, through the 3.5mm headphone jack/mic jack on your computer.

    Thanks for making an awesome, to-the-point video! Do you know if ManyCam natively detects cameras like the M50 too?

      Avni Levy My pleasure!! ☺️ I tried ManyCam about a year ago and it did read the camera but the delay was pretty bad and I couldn’t get it to work well so I left out alone.

    Hello! I have a Canon M50, I downloaded Sparkosoft, and have the USB plugged into the camera and computer. The image shows up in OBS but not Sparkosoft. Any idea what I did wrong? Thanks again love your videos

      I’d say look at the manual online from canon and see if your camera works with that specifically, it may not which is why it’s doing that.

    Hi, Diana
    I have followed all the steps you have shown in your video, the USB cable works well and my M50 appears by ecamm and was recognized in Quick Time and Skipe but not for ZOOM which is the application with which I need to use my M50. I restart ZOOM but nothing change. Can you help me to solve this problem?

    • @DianaGladney
      @DianaGladney  4 роки тому +1

      Intimately Zoom is blocking any virtual camera connections and any previous updates I had won’t work because Zoom is forcing everyone to update their versions this month. So unfortunately it’s waiting for Zoom to figure out their security issues and Re-enable the ability to access virtual camera connections.

    how do I route this feed into ZOOM?

    • @DianaGladney
      @DianaGladney  4 роки тому

      You’d have to use the virtual camera feature on Ecamm. If you’re on PC, almost as soon as this video was out Canon created an Webcam Utility option for free. So, you can use that vs Sparkocam and there is a new video on the channel about it.

    So can you do that and live stream without having 1000 subscribers on your channel??

    • @DianaGladney
      @DianaGladney  4 роки тому +1

      You can live stream to UA-cam if you have less than 1,000 subscribers from desktop but you can't start a stream from your phone for Mobile live streaming is where the 1,000 subscriber cap comes in. As long as UA-cam didn't give you a strike or some other way to block your streaming, you'll be fine from desktop.

    • @DianaGladney
      @DianaGladney  2 роки тому

      If you’re trying to live stream with that specific camera model you’ll just need to verify it has clean hdmi out for live streaming and if it does all you need is an Elgato cam link capture card. If it doesn’t, then you’ll need to see about another route to live stream. I’m not familiar with Nikon cameras so it depends on what specifically you would like help with but you can feel free to email me and we can see what help I can provide you.

    OK Coach, this worked for my M50 and T5i. Thank you. Now here’s my dilemma. I ordered the Pengo Capture Card and HDMI cables. Do I need software for that? Should I pay for a Sparkocam lic now or wait for my Pengo?

    • @DianaGladney
      @DianaGladney  4 роки тому

      Well it’s two different methods so it depends. Connecting via HDMI has limitations and I haven’t tested 2 cameras via usb with Sparkocam but I believe it works from my friends tests.
      It’s up to you what you use but the HDMI route has more limitations with the M50. There’s a video on the channel for that as well.
      If you’re going to use software, you don’t also need HDMI connections, it’s really just one or the other.

    What lens do you use on your M50? I just ordered the 22mm. I hope it’s okay.

    • @DianaGladney
      @DianaGladney  4 роки тому

      I’ve used quite a few lenses with it actually from the kit lens, 22mm, a 35mm, 50mm 🤷🏽‍♀️ Lol
      The 22mm is a very nice small lens and looks great. Nothing to worry about with it honestly. I personally prefer 35mm focal ranges but that’s a personal preference after trying a lot on my camera.
