    Thanks for this realistic review. Biggest hurdle I had was “ Oh man a litre bike is too much power!” It scared me. But this took my fears away and I test rode one two weeks ago and was incredible. Bought one. No reason to be afraid of power if- you have “ nothin to prove”. Thanks Scott. Fellow rider from Canada

    Man, I have owned the Super Duke and several other nakeds and I may be the minority but I prefer the MT10 to all of them. One of the few bikes that blew me away on my test ride. Affordable, reliable and cheap.....not sure it can be beat. I can travel on it, has cruise control, comfort and it is so stable on the freeway. Sold my KTM and have no desire to sell my MT10

    I've had my MT10 for three years. I still think it taicks most boxes. I ride mostly now two up with my wife on the back. I elongated the rear pegs because they are too short for any distance riding. We did 275 kilometer round trip today and had a blast. Riding solo it's as fun as you describe. What sold it for me was the way it tips into a tight corner, ready to pull like a rocket out of the corner. No nasty surprises just big smile ones. Even had the front wheel up in 5th gear once, hilarious. Glad you enjoyed your test. For me it's a crazy machine or a docile enjoy the ride machine.

    Scott, thanks for another honest review. In 2018 I bought a new MT-10 and have clocked up over 15 000 fair weather miles on it. I love the comfort, agility and brute low down power, where I want and need it. Just an aside, I am an advanced rider and have found that anticipating traffic conditions (eg overtaking, traffic circles, speed limit changes etc) and rolling off and on the gas progressively, I average 52 miles per gallon. My reserve gauge starts flashing at just over 160 miles, meaning a tank range of close to 200 miles - which for me is brilliant, as I probably average 200 miles per outing. Most importantly, every time I go out it puts a smile on my face. In my opinion it is the best value for money super naked out there.

      52 mpg ?

    • @rlsearch1
      @rlsearch1 4 роки тому

      @@kevincraig8257 Yes that is correct. I still drive at speed, but do so in a planned way. Also my rides are long on average, as I mentioned. I have been recording fuel economy of over 51 mpg, for the 16 000 odd miles I have clocked up on my MT-10 and everyone of them have given me a big smile. I hope my real world experience balances out the impression set by speed merchants, who must wind it all the time and make the MT-10 out to be such a bad choice, if you are wanting any sort of range.

    Great review man! The weather is still crap so I am sitting here watching a review of the very bike I have in my garage :D Good thing about this winter being mild is that there is no gravel anywhere!
    Anyway I had 2017 mt09 and loved it, sold it after 20000kms, got a black 2019 mt10, clocked almost 17000km in one season and love it even more. It's a fantastic all arounder and for the first time in my life I want to keep a bike for as long as it works

    Not a lot of people know but the MT10 has THE QUICKEST 0-60mph of ANY production bike in history . When people say they didn't notice the power being down it's becaue the MT10 cross plane crank performed at the same levels of the othe supernakeds with less hp.
    I've had crossplane R1's and loved them but my favorite bike for sure was my FZ10 (MT10) I had the battleship grey/fluorescent yellow combo. Loved it! Also get rid of the cat and it sounds epic!!!

    As usual a great review for connoisseurs. Slow intimate and precise. I changed my 1090 ktm a few months ago for a mt10 SP. what a bike. Tft screen by the way. And the semi electronic ohlins suspensions are butter when needed and so rigorous when required. One of the best bikes I ever owned. Please give me a tip for driving with it as you do??! 60kmh all the way, on my side it’s more above 200. The crossplane is begging for 😁. Again thanks for your perfect reviews

    Good review. Love my blue 2018 Yamaha MT-10. What machine. Yamaha did very good job with this bike for the price and the sound is so intoxicating. Yes the fuel tank could be bigger but at my age (59) after a 125 miles I'm ready for a stretch anyway.

    Ive owned it 4 months now. You dont get tired off this bike anytime soon. It got so much personality with that awsome CP4 engine that sounds like a old school muscle car (esp after changing the exhaust). Awsome chassi and wery comfy. Only negative is the range ( reserv around 200km).

    My last bike was the SuperDuke and, I've replaced it with this. I find it more fluid and relaxed - definitely lighter in weight. I dart in and out of traffic with ease and I LOVE how I can change the power characteristics to suit my mood. I've never had a motorcycle that drank fuel like this one, even my Tuonos but, I've never had a bike that fit my temperament so well.

    Let me add, I bought mine at the launch before ever seeing one in person, bought it sight unseen from a Yamaha KTM dealer in California (I live in utah US) the preview reviews of the FZ10, MT10 when all the prosffessionals and emagazines agreed with that comment I knew there was no reason to NOT buy and I saved $8,500 US over my other choice the superduke R. Now I know it's not quiteeee am SDR, BUT a bike that competes SO closely to the worlds best hypernakeds at a bike u can get half the price of the SDR and Tuono Factory . I'm not kidding you msrp in the US was $12,999,...BUT nearing the launch i searched for the best price on a new one (which they all were being ore launch) I found Thousand Oaks Powersports in California, one of the most reputable dealers in the US apparently /and I can attest to that!! They were amaizint! Anyway they ordered 12 FZ10 's at launch, 9. In grey and 3 in black , to their shock they had nearly no deposits by the launch and being a top dealer they were worried about loosing dealer allotment if they ordered 12 and sold 1 , so they listed 2 of the grey and yellows brand new at $9,200!!!!! NEW 0 miles, out the door price!!!!!! I saves nearly $5,000 when ALL was said and done. I got a Loan for $9k , insurance is dirt cheap, it's such a blast to ride, think is a wheelie monster , all the power is low and modeange, shorter wheelbase than R1 so more nimble; it's Jsut hella fun and man,..$9,000 new!!?????you can not possible beat that!!!! A lot of areas are still being slow to adopt the no brainer super nakedness that are as fast as superbikes but comfortable and maybe all the torque low for fun riding, SO capitalize on the Morons that don't get it yet and but one, I'll never go back to sueprsport after my MT10 , no reason, quicker, more comfortable, different than all the sport bikes out there, cruise control , I can ride it accross the Us at any time and not worry or be i pain, it's such an amazing bike!!!

    Just picked up a modified 2017 FZ-10 in the liquid gray with lime wheels and several mods with only 41 miles on it! I've had it about a month and put almost 500 miles on it. Ordered a Puig touring shield and looking at luggage. Mine has an Akrapovic titanium cat delete pipe, AIS block offs, and 2WDW tune. Hard to compare a Super Duke R that cost almost $19,000 USD vs $12,999

      And Ducati Streetfighter and Aprilia Tuono 1100 Factory, which are even more than the SDR. The MT10 is still running on the 1st gen 2016 platform, being the oldest and most out dated, so it should be the cheapest in the group and it is! Great bang for buck!

    Moin Gude Scott,
    as I'm looking for a bike with 4 cylinders and about 1,0 L of displacement, I also came across this one when I searched your videos. Must admit though that it had to grow on me. Didn't like the front end at first for years, but with this particular colour scheme and a windscreen, too - boy, I really do like it.
    More though I like your style of reviewing. Thanks for every single detail you gave and personal feeling you shared.
    Hopefully, Yamaha will supply all of the MT-10 versions with a good TFT display for the model year 2021; I couldn't find any proof for this but am still hoping.
    Even though this MT-10 is a lot different in power and appearance to the Z900RS and maybe a lot others may not compare them, both of them fit my frame.
    I'm positive you'll keep your style; it makes me watch your videos more than once 'cause it's just so much fun to do.

      Depending on how tall you are, this might limit your choices. At 194cm, I tested all the supernakeds: only S1000R and MT10 looked good under me and were comfortable. SuperDuke looked the most ridiculous, absurd even. It is the same size as Duke 390. Tuono was good for a short ride, but it was like sitting on the top of the fence. I don't imagine anyone over 180cm riding it anywhere further than few kilometers.

    I'm going crazy trying to decide between this bike and the super duke r! I don't commute on my bike (fz-07) but use it only for fun rides in the twisties so looking for the bike that will give the most thrills. In your opinion after riding both which bike would you say has the most fun factor? Also which bike do you think is best for a shorter rider? I'm about 5'7 or 175cm.

    • @NothingToProve
      @NothingToProve  5 років тому

      Hi Rust, well both bikes are fun! Let me just establish also that any of the super naked bikes ARE FUN! So with that said we are splitting hairs here to try to define which is the most fun. IMHO the SDR is the most fun out of all the super naked bikes....so much so that I bought one and have owned it now for over 3 years and still have not ridden one that is more fun, on the street. Track well then I'd go for the Tuono/S1000R but that is for track. The SDR has so much torque down low that it's just addictive and when I get on any other super naked they just don't measure up to the SDR torque. And on the street we live in the lower RPM range and at 4k RPM the SDR has more torque then any of the other super nakeds' at their peak RPM.
      Size, wise, I think both bikes are about the same, you might not be able to "flat-foot" either bike but try them out and see which fits you best.
      Good luck with trying to pick one...hehe...they will both give you plenty of smiles per mile.
      Ride safe, Scott

    This is a nice bike, BUT the fuel consumption is very poor. You will be stopping first at the fuel station if you have one of these. I think this is the only reason not to buy this bike, oh, and perhaps if you prefer a TFT screen which rivals have but which cost more money.

    I have the 2017 US model and I don't think its all that, with all the performance problems it has. I still own the bike because it's the second most comfortable I have ever had, the XT660X was the most comfy, but I can't lie about it's performance. The issues I have with the bike are:
    Gas/range, it is a hard thing to deal with, because you know you can't travel far on the bike and since I live in Southern Nevada it is a major problem for me.
    Brakes, I owned 2004 R1, 2001 R6, 2017 XSR 900 and 2008 XT660X and the brakes on the FZ/MT-10 are the worst brake I have ever experienced on a motorcycle period. I have to ride this bike like I'm driving an 4x4 truck, I brake early and keep a distance. I never rode that way in my life. The brake just zap confidence when riding especially in traffic.
    Tires for me they are slipper as hell, but I'm used to Dunlops. I can't get any confidence with these tires every time I take a roundabout the bike slides if I'm 5 to 10 miles over the limit.
    Wind blast, anything over 70 mile per hour becomes a fight and is tiring especially if you ride with gear. Getting old I guess!
    Speed, too me this bike is slow! I mean for all the hype it is slow, but I do ride with traction control 2 because if the tires and brakes I guess. I love the XSR and all my Yamaha's prior, but this bike makes me want to sell it. I know how to ride a motorcycle, done trackdays and all that stuff but, this bike just sucks in my opinion!
    I like the looks, sound, leg room, slipper clutch, display, suspension, LCD lights, and my comfort seat! Bought the sintered brake pads, and heated grips, but haven't installed them as of yet. Trying to find a good wind screen that doesn't take away from the the look and will get some dunlop Q3 tires and I think that will get the bike to where I will love it again!

      You’re right. I was thinking about the bike that really got you the most excited to ride and the bike you learned the most on.
      I had two bikes before I really started to ride and fully understand motorcycles. My first real bike was a Honda Hawk Gt 650. The other two before that were a Honda MB5 and then a Yamaha RZ 350 , both two strokes when you could still own such a thing (in America). The RZ350 woke me up but I did not ride it the way I rode the Hawk.
      Keep up the good work and thanks for the reply.

      Oh, ok, that explains it. Umm...yes the MT-10 is reliable as any Japanese bike can be. Sound is not as good as the Tuono but close. Ergo's are better on the MT, more up-right. You might also want to consider the KTM 1290 Super Duke R (still a V configuration as the Tuono but just 2 cyl instead of 4), I've personally owned a 2015 model going on the 4th summer now with 21k on the odometer and I've never had one single issue with it. And I beat the snot out of it every time I take it out. Gone through 4 sets of tires and I hit the rev'limiter on a consistent basis...she has never even had a hick-up. Every thing I can dish out, she takes it.
      Good luck with trying to decide which bike to buy, they are all great bikes in the super naked class.

      Don’t worry about the horsepower shootouts unless you’re racing you’re not using all that power on the street. This bike has all the power you need on the street. Yamaha dealerships are everywhere and so are parts. Reliability is a very big deal if you want a motorcycle that gives you peace of mind at a good price.

    • @NothingToProve
      @NothingToProve  5 років тому

      Vibration: SDR has more, sound: different but still both bikes cool, torque: SDR has more, smooth: MT10 is smoother, mapping: about the same.
      An in-line 4 is almost always smoother than a V-Twin in low RPMs, simply because it's twice as many cylinders. I guess it really depends on what one wants. :)

    Advice needed. I currently own a Triumph Speed Twin, but I'm wanting to do more long trips. The Speed Twin doesn't have cruise control or decent wind protection, so I'm considering a sport touring type bike. The ones that I'm looking at are the MT 10(Touring Package), BMW R 1250 RS, and the KTM Super Duke 1290 GT. Which would you chose? Thanks, Justin

      Hi, the GT, in my 1250RS 1000km review I go over the differences between the RS and GT. ua-cam.com/video/w2lma77hxy8/v-deo.html.
      I would not take the MT-10, has the least amount of wind protection and you'd be stopping at every gas station...the range is not good but then it's a super naked so range was not a concern when they designed it.

      Agreed, if you take that statement out of context. The way I used it, it is the lowest powered and is the one of the worst in fuel economy, in the Super Naked group. Now take the bike out of the super naked group and introduce it to someone that has not ridden the other super nakeds, then you won't notice things like these facts. It is a great bike, don't get me wrong, I love it. I was just stating the facts, and comparing it to the other super nakeds. Which is a very competitive group and you have to split hairs to compare them to each other.
