Had mine over four years and 23K miles. A great bike but you definitely won't get 120 miles before hitting reserve / fuel light. My average British MPG has never past 38. It's been super reliable and great fun to own.
I have a 2018 version with the matte silver and yellow wheels - love the look. I considered the BMW and Aprilia but read bad things about both wrt reliability. I have had other Yamaha bikes and they have been quite reliable. Love the power. They have made the mid-range extremely strong and that is where you tend to be on the public roads. Super fun to ride as it wants to wheelie in the first 3 gears - needs an experienced rider. Handling is fantastic. My rear wheel needed replacing at 2 300 miles so went with a longer lasting tire, the Bridgestone Battleax T31. Lasting well so far but lost some stickiness. Mileage is similar to others in the class. Tank is 17 liters and fuel light comes on when 4 liters are left. Overall I love this bike. It's a keeper.
What a great review Mark.It makes a refreshing change to see an articulate very detailed review based on real world riding conditions.I have become fed up with daft videos of riders going stupid with t shirts flapping up their backs and inane rap music in the background! Anybody can ride fast on the road, as I have ridden with you on track a couple of times and many times on road I will tell your followers that you are a very quick ,smooth and capable rider. The picture quality and sound quality is first class. You are fast becoming the go to bike tester.Well done Mark! Look forward to riding with you again soon.
I don't agree about the picture quality. The bike looks like a balloon. In real life this bike isn't a balloon shape. The reason for this is a bad camera quality or wrong chosen optics.
I test rode this Yamaha and then hoped on a Suzuki GSXS-1000 at Daytona's Bike Week last year. Once home in Miami, I hurried to my Suzuki dealer and Picked up a new Phantom edition Suzuki. For me the angry, and howling Gixxer engine sound and power delivery were addictive, and oh...I also and kept the additional $$$$$5000.00 in my pockets. Safe riding everyone.
Oh. I test road the MT-10 in 2019. It's the most fun i've had on 2 wheels so far. Far from a perfect bike. But great fun for sure. I gave it a strong 8/10. Nice video💖💖👏🏼👏🏼
Got the SP version, it's just insane. I really love the bike, did a decat, added a DB killer and got 155HP at the rearwheel. Seating position is great, the sound is astonishing. The only bad thing for me is the fuel consumption, when riding hard, need to tank after 130KM. When riding with cruisecontrol at 110KMH it indicates 1L/18KM
Brilliant review. I was the same, 4000 rpm at 60 mph on the 2000 R1, changed rear sprocket to 35 tooth, now 3000 rpm. A little clutch slipping needed but fine.
Bought mine at the beginning of July, didn't even test ride! Not disapointed, it is a brilliant bike - everything that has been said about it is true! Brembo Road&Track pads transform the front bite and feel. I've been riding since 1965, and it's one of the best I've owned. Not perfect, but what bike is? Surprisingly comfortable, even after a 300 mile day, and that's with the standard seat. I'm averaging 42mpg, and usually get 115 miles before reserve. One of its outstanding features for me is its lightness. It is the same as my previous S1000R, but feels much lighter. The Z1000SX is a great package, but it is around 30kg heavier - too much for me I'm afraid! Anyway, thanks Mark for a great review.
Hi sir I test rode an s1000r and it was a featherweight compared to my Suzuki Bandit 1250. could this M10 be lighter than the BMW ! And how does it compare to the s1000r ? Thx.
Truth is the S1000R is actually very slightly lighter! About 5 kg I think. However, the MT10 just feels lighter to push around - can't explain why! It may be, that in between the S and MT, I had an R1200RS - best part of 35kg heavier and, to me, it was a tank, took the fun out of riding. The MT10 engine is far more satisfying than the S1000R, much more character combining great top end with a relaxed long distance cruise. The S1000R was certainly quick enough, but was constantly frantic, never relaxed.
Its a crossplane 4 cylinder. The crank shaft is not in line but rather in a cross if you look at it from the side. I have this bike.....its my favorite bike and IMHO..its the king of bikes. Plenty of power, comfortable, easy to ride, handles great, not too expensive....its the perfect motorcycle...
I have the 2018 mt10, ridiculously good all round bike for real world riding. Almost no one mentions the electronic steering damping which is a major plus on these bike coz the front wheel is nearly always out of contact with the road. That electronic steering dampner keeps that front pointed in the correct direction nearly all the time.

Hi mark, I purchased my XSR700 on the strength of your channel and review, and it’s been a wonderful experience riding the XSR, but I’m going through and feeling that itch when we sometimes look for something new. The MT10 eh 😛, gonna have to get me a test ride, and no doubt will probably treat myself, it will all depend on the rider triangle as I’m getting on in years and certainly not as flexible as I once was, we’ll see though 😂
I really like the touring edition in black with the larger screen and panniers. You have some great roads there Mark and you were lucky as not many cars or white vans around! The engine sounds really nice on this mt10 doesn't it? Really great reviews as always!
Hi ....the mt10 is cheaper but still brilliant but money no object I'd definitely go for the duke because if it's utter sledgehammer of an engine Highly recommend it Cheers mark
Another great review Mark, a chap I know bought one of these, straight after doing his DAS and loves it, his hasn't got the aracpovic on though, I think it needs it.😁
Looks a blast. It has stiff competition though, the usual suspects. I have heard it called the Empty Ten on account of the frequency it needs to visit fuel stations.

nice review , i tried all the other naked competition except for the aprilia factory and the new duke , i bought the mt 10 best bike i have had in 40 years of bikes lol, i know there are a bit madder ones out there but not by much lol did the nc500 this year and riding tidy was getting 160 odd from a tank ride like your supposed to and was getting 90 odd lol, no probs at all with the bike with 7000 on the clock
I sold my Honda CB1000R and bought a 2021 MT10 a couple of months ago. Do I love this bike, oh yea. Mind you, some of them suffer from internal headlight cracks for some mystery reason. Guess what, one of my headlights had those internal cracks appear after a ride out 5 weeks after I bought the bike. No stone chips, just mystery cracks inside the lens. I bought additional warranties on the bike as well, but the warranty does not cover lights, DARN! The dealer however where I bought the bike, are going to cover half the cost of new lights and fitting, which is total around £1000. You can't just buy the one light, you have to buy the set!!! Do I love the bike, still oh yea. To insure the bike costs a fortune compared to my previous Honda. The mpg is poor, you get around 39=40 mpg if you take it easy. Far less if you are enjoying the ride so to speak. I used to get 50mpg from the Honda. The power is so much fun. I thought the Honda was quick until I bought this bike. WOW does it go. I had the suspension set up by an expert and the handling improved, although it did handle well before the set up. So far I have fitted a different end can, rad protector cover, comfort seat and bar ends. This bike for me is a long term keeper.
I’d like your opinion on the difference between the standard and Akropovic exhaust please Mark?I took one out last summer and once Covid eases think I will do the deal, really fancy the Akrapovic so your opinion would help? Many thanks
Very nice. Which one did you like the most? MT-10 or Kawasaki 1000SX? These are the two im looking at. I realize one is a semi-tourer but if you were to compare them?
@@markpulling12 Only thing im worried about is if the steering bars are too low? I have an MT-09. How would you compare the bars, are they much more aggresive on the Ninja?
Hi David ...I'm sure this one has anti wheelie control ...if you turned it off full power in first it would bring the wheel right up ! Mt09sp for me :)
It does have a blipper right? Really anxious to see the next version. Just test rode the new MT09 SP 2021, that was a fantastic bike, wondering how the MT10 will be opposed, cus the new MT09 was more then enough power and electronics you would ever need
Hi lasse, no these don't have a blipper it's quickshift on the up only .. these mt10s are awesome but from what I've heard the new mt09 sp is a stunning bike and a match for the bigger super nakeds ...I'm test riding one next week hopefully Cheers mark
awesome looking bike, but apparently they suck more fuel then an R1 but make less power. range means alot to some people including me and i want at least 220 KM to a tank so that's the biggest downfall with the MT-10 otherwise i'd almost definitely be in the market for it
I kinda wish they would expand the tank capacity... maybe use some of that wasted space where those non functioning side scoops are ...and add the auto blipper as well....awesome....
I've owned mine for 18 months/20K miles and used it to commute to work daily. I consistently got 150 miles (240 kilometres) out of a tank, with about a litre or so to spare much of the time. On highway tours, my maximum was 176 miles, before putting in 17L worth of fuel. It's no MT-07 when it comes to consumption, but a 150-mile range isn't a problem unless you're caning it everywhere.
Hi damien....no sorry I haven't.... my dealership never seems to have one on demo ...but I've heard they are brilliant .... slightly overlooked because the other ones are so good but I'm sure they are great and I'm sure you could get a great deal on one Regards mark
I have just bought the same year model 2020. Brand new. Odo is 0 km here in the Phil. Now, just driven 14.7 km but the temp is so high 110 °C. The fan kicks in. The tank is so hot that I felt it on my lap. It's very uncomfortable. Is this normal? Please advise, please..
Heat can be an issue on big engines in hot countries... hopefully it should be fine once your moving at speed ...if not have a check with your dealer Best regards mark
Er ? Nope ....these are simply amazing bikes to ride ... just the brakes are ok strong rather than brembo eye popping standard ..that's the only thing that stood out for me cheers mark
Some engine. Shame the bike is styled like it is. I prefer the look of the CB1000R. I like the way you test the engine's flexibility in top. Just the sort of thing I want to know. 0-60s are meaningless. It's all to do with when you change gear. Top gear flexibility and roll-ons are the crucial thing.
I'm impressed with the seat height of this, I thought it was gonna be like the R1. Haha. Anyways, hey Mark, is the seat narrow? Coz you're almost flat foot on the floor.
Oh though choice can I have both ....if your going to do touring then get the BMW ....it's engine is incredibly good ...but otherwise I'd get a good used mt10 cheers mark
Hi raymo ....on paper you'd go for the s1000 because it's more powerful at the top end but I'd take the mt10 just because it makes you feel better with it's monster pull from low down and more character from that crosssplane engine ... cheers mark
Completely agree with Mark. Spent a good amount of time on both and ended up buying the Yam, it wasn't even close. The S100R is a weapon, but the MT-10 is simply epic anytime, anywhere at any speed.
@@El_Titoo hi Tito ....both are brilliant ...but I'd personally go for the zh2 if money was no object ...that pull from the supercharger low down is amazing Cheers mark
Hi darius ...the mt10 is cheaper and probably more reliable long term...but for me if money wasn't an issue I'd take the ktm as it's just amazing with that booming v twin engine all the best mark
Hm...just order ktm 1290...maybe will be ready in 2 weeks. They ask me about perfomance pack should be instaled?! I said that I need just quickshifter..
@@kwak1k absolute bargain but even so it's just far too ugly and messy for me. Hopefully when Yamaha finally update it they'll make it a good looking bike that's the only thing that needs doing along with good brakes.
@@markpulling12 I'm guessing you don't recall what the rear shock preload was set to? I found even on a 390 Duke on Preload 5 it was tippy toes for me. When I set it to "min" I was flat foot and it was fine except the bike is heavy for a tiny engine and KTM rubbish quality. I'm off to sit on one of these 2022 models in a couple of days.

Hi David ...I'm sure this one has anti wheelie control ...if you turned it off full power in first it would bring the wheel right up !
Mt09sp for me :)
Brilliant review Mark, really nice bike, I love the sound of that exhaust. Thanks A.J
Great thanks for the feedback aj
Regards mark
It does have a blipper right? Really anxious to see the next version. Just test rode the new MT09 SP 2021, that was a fantastic bike, wondering how the MT10 will be opposed, cus the new MT09 was more then enough power and electronics you would ever need
Hi lasse, no these don't have a blipper it's quickshift on the up only .. these mt10s are awesome but from what I've heard the new mt09 sp is a stunning bike and a match for the bigger super nakeds ...I'm test riding one next week hopefully
Cheers mark
Great video, love the sound of the MT10!
Thanks Pete ... nearly as good as your tuono ! :)
@@markpulling12 that’s right, nearly as good 😉
I absolutely love this bike! Can I ask how tall you are? What is the legroom/comfort like?
Hi Mike ...I think I said at the beginning ...but I'm 5ft 7 ...lots of leg room and very comfortable for an all day ride :)
Best regards mark
@@markpulling12 thanks Mark, I missed that. I'm 6'2"
@@mikehamilton9128 you'll still be fine it's very roomy :)
Thanks for sharing your review, always enjoy seeing your reviews and hearing your thoughts. Must say I'm not a big fan of its looks
Great bike Mark and wonderful video.Thank you. I would love to have one. Sadly, I have to report you to PM Johnson..LOL....Sal : )
Thanks ..I want one too ! ;)
That sound 😍
Great review thanks just spoilt a bit by that picture of a lemon 😆
Haha lol ! Thanks alex
Impressive machine....thanks Mark.......Sal : )
Nice review! Anyway we have same dealer in crecsent yamaha! Ride safe!
Good video. I would like to ride one. The crossplane seems to be a much better engine than the 5 valve I had in a FZ1
These are awesome bikes
Highly recommend it
Regards mark
awesome looking bike, but apparently they suck more fuel then an R1 but make less power. range means alot to some people including me and i want at least 220 KM to a tank so that's the biggest downfall with the MT-10 otherwise i'd almost definitely be in the market for it
I kinda wish they would expand the tank capacity... maybe use some of that wasted space where those non functioning side scoops are ...and add the auto blipper as well....awesome....
@@arnoldbraunschweiger4828 20L tank and make it a bit better on fuel and it would be an amazing bike, no ifs, buts, or maybes.
Had an extended Test ride the standard MT10 last month, wonderful bike only criticism was I only got around 100 miles to the tank. Cheers Mark
Thanks Dave ...yes I kind of got the feeling that they are quite heavy on fuel during my test ride ... awesome bike though really enjoyed it :)
Part of that may be the fact that there are still 4 litres left when the empty light comes on.
@@markpulling12 taken the plunge, picking up an immaculate 2nd hand stock bike in the blue this week, great review thanks Mark.
@@debenhamdave4314 great choice Dave ....bet you can't wait ! :)
Cheers mark
@@markpulling12 definitely can't wait, trading in my lovely street triple 765rs but at 6ft want a bigger bike, you have a great channel thanks Mark.
Hi Mark, I’m 5’5”, would I be able to get my feet on the deck? Do you think it’s too big for me? Thanks
Hi Tom I think you'll be on tip toes ...you may be ok .. cheers mark
Have you done a review on the kawasaki Z1000r would love to see the comparison to this
Hi damien....no sorry I haven't.... my dealership never seems to have one on demo ...but I've heard they are brilliant .... slightly overlooked because the other ones are so good but I'm sure they are great and I'm sure you could get a great deal on one
Regards mark
I have just bought the same year model 2020. Brand new. Odo is 0 km here in the Phil.
Now, just driven 14.7 km but the temp is so high 110 °C. The fan kicks in. The tank is so hot that I felt it on my lap. It's very uncomfortable.
Is this normal? Please advise, please..
Heat can be an issue on big engines in hot countries... hopefully it should be fine once your moving at speed ...if not have a check with your dealer
Best regards mark
@markpulling12 Thanks so much for the confirmation. I really do enjoy your very straightforward and honest reviews. Keep it up.
@@julz948 many thanks 👍:)
I’ll have one soon. Thanks MP
Has any viewer any knowledge of wether or not C.O.P.D would preclude someone from regular bike riding?
There must be more stuff you don't like? It seems every bike you test is superb?
Thanks for doing these though - I know each video takes ages .
Great review!
Thanks Stephen !
All the best mark
Nice review
Hey Mark... hope your ok, happy holidays my friend
Hi Andy ....yes doing well thanks
Merry Christmas ...mark
I'm impressed with the seat height of this, I thought it was gonna be like the R1. Haha. Anyways, hey Mark, is the seat narrow? Coz you're almost flat foot on the floor.
Hi yes it is quite narrow ...even I can get my feet down :)
Cheers mark
Yamaha MT - 10 or BMW S 1000 XR???
Oh though choice can I have both ....if your going to do touring then get the BMW ....it's engine is incredibly good ...but otherwise I'd get a good used mt10 cheers mark
I had one...Loved it with one exception, The worst fuel consumption ever. That thing is the gas hog of the century.
🤣Yeah, buy a scooter then!
MT10 or S1000R, Mark, nice work?
Hi raymo ....on paper you'd go for the s1000 because it's more powerful at the top end but I'd take the mt10 just because it makes you feel better with it's monster pull from low down and more character from that crosssplane engine ... cheers mark
@@markpulling12 Thanks for your comments Mark
Completely agree with Mark. Spent a good amount of time on both and ended up buying the Yam, it wasn't even close. The S100R is a weapon, but the MT-10 is simply epic anytime, anywhere at any speed.
My dream is to be having a bigBike motorcycle . ♥ but I couldn't afford it. Even small bikes 😅
I'm test riding the Speed Triple RS today, I thought about one of these but I just don't like the front headlights. 😑
Yes...I think the speed triple is better looking Steve....your going to love the speed triple all the best mark
The speed triples bug eyed headlights are no head turners either!
@@wirenut3020
I bought a Superduke..
@@Icem4n84 good choice. Several friends have picked that as well.
quick shifter up and down or only up?
Up and down on these :)
@@markpulling12 thanks man can i ask for ur personal opinion about which do u think better the Zh2 or Mt-10 ?
@@El_Titoo hi Tito ....both are brilliant ...but I'd personally go for the zh2 if money was no object ...that pull from the supercharger low down is amazing
Cheers mark
@@markpulling12 thanks bro
Subbed to you mate 👍
Thanks for the sub regards mark
No SP or touring versions in the U.S. ☹️
I still don’t understand why, is it because of emissions???
Yet another great video, I’m currently riding a ninja 650 and my next bike will be Z 900 MT09 MT10
Please please help lol
mt09sp all the way !!
KTM 1290 duke or mt10?!
When they came out in 2016 they were £10K
And everybody said they were too cheap 🙄
Buy at the right time of year and can still find one for about 10k mind.
@@kwak1k absolute bargain but even so it's just far too ugly and messy for me. Hopefully when Yamaha finally update it they'll make it a good looking bike that's the only thing that needs doing along with good brakes.
Hi Mark mt10 or ninja 1000sx
Oh tricky choice ...but the new ninja 1000 is a little more versatile and over a £1000 cheaper so Kawasaki for me :)
@@markpulling12 agreed!
Hlo big brother 👍🇮🇳
Uhm tracer 900 gt every time sorry 👍 ATB
Seat height???
It's in the video about 4 mins in you can see me on the bike
Cheers mark
@@markpulling12 I'm guessing you don't recall what the rear shock preload was set to? I found even on a 390 Duke on Preload 5 it was tippy toes for me. When I set it to "min" I was flat foot and it was fine except the bike is heavy for a tiny engine and KTM rubbish quality. I'm off to sit on one of these 2022 models in a couple of days.
This or mt09?
Hi the new mt09 has now made the mt10 redundant ....until maybe a new mt10 comes out ...the mt09 is just as much if not more fun for less money
Regards mark
@@markpulling12 Thank you for quick reply.
Was lusting after that Mt10, but since seeing your rave review of the mt9... that's sorta changed!.
All the best to you.

Pulling ?
Horrible brute of a thing! I don't like the fact that I want one, but I do, I love it. Pity they didn't go brembo on the sp
I didn’t think it was that much fun. Actually had more fun on Suzuki Gsxs1000.
