Long term mt/fz09 owner here(3 yrs). Look the mt09 is a good bike. 600CC power and good torque plus light weight but at the end of the day the mt10 out shines it in every aspect. I bought one a month ago and would never look back. Better frame, suspension and motor make such a better bike. Yeah power is there but its the whole package. Fuel range is about the same between the 2 bikes. The ability to cut in on corners is night and day plus adding in cruise is a cherry on top. The sound track is top notch and quick shifter is just the icing on the cake. Well worth the extra couple g's over the sp 09 easy. It feels more adult if you catch my drift. Plus has decent touring options if that's your plan. I sold and rode Harleys for a few years but I've always owed Yamahas from r6 to r1, mt09 and now an mt-10. Really best bike for the money hands down.
so im creeping up on 4k miles on my MT10 and man i have never loved a bike so much. after i got the 2wdw flash it totally changed how it rode, absolute monster. Be safe out there man one thing about the MT10 is if you dont master throttle control you are going to constantly be doing wheelies lol
I'd say if you lived in an area that had a lot of canyons and twisties, go with the more nimble MT09. But seeing as how you live in Florida where the roads really aren't all that, go with the 10 and take advantage of its strengths which are more suited for everyday riding. And, when you do find yourself in an area with more curvy roads, you really won't be disappointed with the way the 10 handles anyway.
I'd say get the MT10. As you've seen mode 3 fits your current comfort level so that means you still have a lot of room to grow on it. And can always go back down to 3 to thwap on it without worry. Lots of upgrades you can get so there's room for both you and the bike to grow.
I've got a 20 plate MT10, the sound, power, looks and entertainment this bike gives is awsome.. I run it in TC2/Mode2 at the moment, still getting used to it.. Its a thumbs up from me 👍🏻. Cheers Yamaha.
I had the MT09 and now have the MT10. The MT10 is 30% better in all areas. It’s fun, powerful, planted, safer under breaking into corners and less highly strung so more relaxing than the high reviving triple cylinder of the MT09. The MT10 is truly an incredibly enjoyable bike to own. Effortless and I still love it after 5 years. It also still feels like new.
Get the MT10, you won't regret it. It's a better bike overall VS the MT09, and the power is there when you so choose to twist the throttle. Also, the factory tune is kinda snatchy on/off throttle, but the "2 wheel dyno works" tune transforms the bike.
My 2 cents worth, you’ll never get bored with the MT 10 and the sound alone would be reason enough to buy it. That said you’d have to drop thousands more into it to get it to where that loaner bike is. In regards to the MT 09 SP you won’t have to spend any money to upgrade suspension etc, it’s fantastic out of the crate. Good luck with your decision, win win either model you choose!
I had the MT09 for a couple years. It was a fantastic bike! However, I traded it in on a 2021 MT10 back in December. The 10 is an absolute monster, and I couldn't be happier with my decision! It's a better bike in literally every single aspect.
I owned an mt09. The mt10 has cruise control but is harder on gas ⛽️. They’re both awesome bikes and you’ll be happy w whatever you decide to go with! 🏍😎👌
Bought a Mt10 sp after 30 years of Gsxr's, Fireblades and R1's and have to say I absolutely love it ! A totally mental machine . Miles of smiles, well till the next frequent fuel stop which are frequent !
They must have used the new "Crossplane" crankshaft. This engine sounds TOTALLY different than a regular 4 cylinder. The firing order is clearly different. It sounds like a V-Twin or a V-Four engine, or a Subaru boxer. It doesn't have the same firing order as normal inline 4. I need to do more research! This also sounds like the 270 degree Honda baby 1100 "Rebel." Listen to the Rebel 1100, you can hear the same distinct violent pitter patter. Also listen to a Ducati 916. Same exact sound.
@@Ritalie don’t you know the yamaha m1 from motogp ? This engine evolved from that one. Funny thing is: rossi chose this engine out of 5 other engines i believe. He said he could right smoother and felt more in control with it. Since 2009 this crossplane 4 inline engine came out on the market. Ben spies and josh hayes became champion on it I think. Now on the new engine the stroke is shorter and the cylinder capacity is a bit larger, which makes it possible to create more top end power ( higher revs ) compared to the older engine. Now Toprak is also champion on this bike. Lot’s of succes with this engine, its awesome and unique! This MT10 has the same engine with some slight changes to tame it a bit ! ;)
@@DonGH297 I didn't know that it came out in 2009. So the MT10 has the same crossplane R1 engine? People say the MT10 has "too much" power and isn't fun because it's almost difficult to control all that power. It sounds awesome to me!
I had the 17 fz09 I went to 17 fz10 and am never going back. Wish I made that decision before I had the 09. Everything about it is better, smoother, more throttle control. You won’t regret it. The 09 has much to be desired
The fact that you so humbly reflected on your confidence and sense of achievement afterwards means I’m definitely not ready for the 10. MT09 it is for now. Thanks man!
I have been trying to decide this exact question for myself. I was leaning towards the MT-10. I think this video just helped me decide. From my perspective you couldn’t have made a better video. 👍🏻
For me personally the 09 over the 10 because there is more usable power. Running through the gears your speed is so much higher on the 10 and it's missing some of the low end I feel the 09 has. The MT09 SP is going to be a real sweet bike, cruise, upgraded suspension, slightly bigger motor with more low end punch. Plus the 6 axis IMU is a big thing when you are talking about pushing a bike through twisties. BUT man it's hard to not fall in the love with that MT10 crossplane engine. Easily one of the best sounding engines on the market today.
I owned a MT09 for 3 years. Loved the engine but the suspension was a little soft and I found the seat quite uncomfortable. I didn't like how quiet the stock pipe was either. I sold it and bought a MT10. Love the MT 10! While the MT09 would wheelie easily off the throttle in 2nd the MT10 would do the same in 3rd. The pull in 3rd gear is amazing! Even 4th gear pulls very strongly. While the MT09 was quiet, the MT10 sounds great even with the stock pipe. I really like how I can wheelie with the ABS on 1. It also has an electronic steering stabiliser to keep things predictable. The cruise control is great on boring bits. I really like the larger and more "meaty" feel of this bike compared to the MT09. The handling is super sharp. I have the same colors as your bike in the video and love that I don't have anything to wax. Overall this is easily the best bike I have owned. If you like power then this bike will do the job. Negatives: The small tank can be a pain and it should have come with a radiator guard. Also no storage space under the seat. I bought a GIVI sport windscreen and it looks like stock and does a better job with the wind. I would definitely recommend a MT10 if you can afford it and you are an experienced rider and can handle the power.
I absolutely love my MT-10. I feel like I'd be missing something if I got the MT-09 instead. I have a similar setup to the one in this video. Same tank grips, ecu flashed, higher windscreen, comfort seat, etc... The CP4 sounds amazing. One thing to think about, the extra power isn't just good for faster 0-60 or higher top speed. You'll have more power all the time. It's a beast!
Great review! I had mt09 from 2017-2019, sold it got mt10 cos I needed more power. Never regretted my decision, did over 32000kms in less than 2 years. Bike still gives me a semi when I look at it and a proper chubby every time I ride it. I am never getting rid of it. Except maybe for a new version of mt10. Come on Yamaha, we need this!
Get the MT-10. I was in the same boat as you last year. Cruise control, more comfortable seat, more planted, "better" sound, power modes, and better looks. In my opinion, the only reason to get the MT-09 is if you wanna save a couple thousand dollars or if you're a diehard triple fan. They're both stupid fast, and will both get you hurt, so the comfort level thing is out the window. The 10 has power modes (more like throttle response modes), to ease you into the power. I got the 2020 MT-10 in Ice Fluo and I have no regrets, it's my favorite bike yet, even beating my Z1000 I had years ago.
Nice review I have owned all three of this line of Bikes (wife has fz-07) I had a FZ-09 and have recently purchased the MT-10 and in my opinion there is no comparison from the MT-10 to either of the other bikes Yes it is a beast but the suspension is so nice It gives you confidence that I found The 09 sapped from me. I have been riding for all my life and consider myself an experienced rider. MT-10 all the way other then a budget...
One thing I like about the MT10 is that it looks good naked as well as fitted with some touring mods, taller screen, handguards, etc.. if you are to go down that route. I quite like the way chaseontwowheels's MT10 looks like. Some other bikes are not as adaptive. For example, I own a Kawasaki Z900, which looks good with the standard windscreen, the moment you put any other taller screen on it, just doesn't work for whatever reason, looks weird. My next bike will probably be a MT-10
I don't know how you can focus with that sound. Out of 10,000 motorcycle videos, this is the best sounding engine I've ever heard. It sounds better than any car, or motorcycle ever made. This is unreal. It almost sounds like a fake "over dub" of some V8 engine from a race track. How on Earth did they get a 4 cylinder to sound like this. Please make an entire video about the engine. This engine deserves a FortNine level documentary. Forget the bike. It's all about the engine! :))))))))
In the 1970's, they used to advertise how big a car was. Bigger was better. Now, we have tinier and tinier motorcycles, that are becoming like little toys, with 200 horsepower engines. Fortunately, more practical parallel twin bikes, like the Z400 and Yamaha R3 and MT-03 are making a come back, and there is a renaissance of small twins again. I've never liked the look of the tiny street fighters. But the Z400 and MT-03 are really growing on me.
My God! If I could have a second bike, this would be it. The exhaust note sounds like a smaller tuned, high revving v8. Beastly! Get it bro. DO EEETTT!
I have 2019 MT10 and man, I have either owned or ridden all of the super naked and I find myself having the most fun on the MT10 but it just does not get the love it deserves. Such a great bike!
Lots of forums online say people engine blows randomly on these bikes. I owned one for a year only put 2,300 miles on it and it was leaking oil from gasket. Lots of people had this issue also. Sold the bike last Friday. Yamaha wouldn’t fix the issues because I put a mid pipe on the bike haha. Switched over to indian,
A touring screen will make a big difference. It’s a great bike. But getting old in the tooth. The new z h2 has been on my radar for a 10 replacement. But nakeds definitely need a tall screen for the interstate.
I'm cross shopping the MT10 & the CB-1000R..... and honestly if the MT10 didn't sound like it does I probably would just go with the CB1000R.... that cross plane crank is just an intoxicating sound I could listen to that all day every day and never get tired of it 😩. But sound aside I like the CB1000R better in every other way. It's absolutely beautiful, the best looking naked bike on the market under $15k in my humble opinion. Honda really knocked it out of the part with their styling on those bikes. And you know that engine is going to run forever with no problems and it has all the modern bells and whistle like color TFT and the over all fit and finish is far above all the Japanese bikes and more on par with Ducati and Triumph. That CB-1000R is a very very attractive bike for so many reasons.
The cp4 is a super smooth engine. More than typical I-4s. First hand a steering damper will make the bike feel more planted leaned over. So you can put on the FZ/MT 09 and it will drastically change the way it feels leaned over. Much more stable. Look into ohlins steering damper for the MT09 SP. $$$
While other bikes are chasing high hp numbers or trying to be the fastest, the MT-10 was built around fun factor. This is certainly NOT a beginner bike. But those of you that have been riding a while, if you pick one of these up you'll be sure to add many smiles to every mile. Keep the rubber down and enjoy!
The reason it feels so planted is because it’s has an R1 chassis. It got more than just an engine from the R1. The other mt bikes are original unique bikes and the MT10 is an R1 withe the plastic removed a retuned engine and upright seating position. That is why it feels so planted. A lot of work went into the design of its chassis when developing the R1.
Godda follow your heart. Which one excites you more? The 09 is an amazing bike. The 10 is a bigger more powerful bike. What do you really want? What makes you happy? All that should matter
I think you can’t make a decision on either one until you ride the MT-07. That bike is tons of fun and sounds mean like the MT-10. That said, I would go MT-10 over the 09. It just fits you better and extra weight adds stability and you will never, ever, want for more power lol plus the cruise control is an added bonus. I’ve seen 10’s done up as sport touring bikes which is pretty awesome.
I am 99.9% positive that it is a Delkevic exhaust. I have the slip-on version for my Suzuki SV650 and it sounds and looks just like the one on this bad ass bike. Awesome company, amzing customer service....I have spoken with them before on the phone. No bullshit, just a great company!
Traction control can also be disabled. Go to setting 1, then hold the up arrow for a couple seconds. But I myself never ride with it off on my FZ-10. Also you have no say in wheelies lol. Gas mileage is my only gripe. I wish it had more range. But I knew that going in so I wasn't disappointed. I've got mine reflashed by 2Wheel Dynoworks and it is far better than stock. It's a fun bike for sure. Cruise control was a big selling point for me personally. You won't be disappointed if you get one.
Would love to ride an mt10. Havnt been on any of the newer bikes but last year I had a 2003 yamaha fz1 and that was an awesome all around bike. Plenty of power and handled well. I know a lot has changed from 2003 till the current mt10 so would love to see what its all about.
Block buy the mt-09 and put the mods that the 10 had. Add the steering dampener, flash the ecu and use more of the full potential of the bike. The upgrades should help it feel more planted like the mt-10. Unless you want to get into track days....then my-10
That is a great sounding bike. I think either is a great choice and your gonna “do it” up anyway for whichever you get, lol. Looking forward to seeing the MT journey
My BIGGEST complaint about the MT-10 is the face of it. I hate the fact it looks like a Decepticon. I would just be mad if some stranger told me that. It really is my dream bike, but man I hope they give it a facelift in 2022. I'll say also that the ergos are nearly identical to the MT-07
MT-10 is the best of the MT’s, really liked the bike when I test rode it in 2018, but I opted for the 2018 Street Triple. *Price*… would like to ride the MT-10 again.
Damn man.... you’re in 4th gear at 40mph. Keep it 1st, ride in the 7k range unless you’re on the highway, and turn rain mode (TC3) off. It’s an awesome bike, just got done MD-FL and back on my ‘17 FZ10.
The Highwinder I know this video is older now, so this is for reference for other buyers. I did all the research and was ready to buy an MT-10. Here's what caused me to go with the 09. The MT-10 is a beast, no doubt about it, but you better be ready for it. It does pull like a freight train - as in, pulling into every other gas station you pass. The thing's a gas guzzler, and a serious one (look up the stats). It's shocking how bad this thing is on gas compared to the 09. The 09, however, gives you close to the same level of excitement but way better range on a tank. Also, the MT-09's shocking Godzilla-torqued triple will scare the shit out of you, that thing was designed by aliens. No matter which bike you buy, make sure your life insurance is paid up.
Get a 10 SP if you can stretch that far or the standard 10 because I believe the stock equipment suspension/chassis wise is higher grade on the 10 and if you get it tuned by a pro you’ll probably get pretty good results. If you bought a 10 SP just go straight to the pro for set up. There is a caveat to this though, I’d try to get a ride on a ‘21 version 09 SP, apparently they’ve made pretty decent changes to suspension and geometry which have yielded good improvements so that may suit you even more 🤷🏻♂️
Maybe you could remind us briefly how a quick-shifter works? How about a steering-damper as well? I ride an '09 FXDL which is a totally different universe, so some of these terms go over my helmet! I could google, but your 'splainin is usually easy to understand hahah. Keep up the good work man!
Stick with your SP. The new MT09 is supposed to be a big improvement in the handling department. MT10 is sweet though, particularly this one with the full exhaust.
....that low RPM sound though!!....sounds like V8 muscle!!....just get that one!!...everything is for sale with the right offer!😏...that thing is a beast!!....stay safe out there!...ride safe!!😎👍🤙👍🤙🇨🇦
MT10 actually has tighter turning circle due to shorter wheel base. Makes it corner better too. Suspension on MT09 is dog shit which can make it wallow and twitch. My first bike was a worked MT10 set up pretty much exactly like this. Had zero problems as I ride within my ability. Only problem is it drinks fuel like there is a hole in the tank.
No bad choices. The MT09 has great engine response and with 847 cc, 56.4 MPG, 114.9 hp, 65lbf.ft @ 8500 rpm. The MT10 has awesome engine response with 998 cc, 42 MPG, 158.2 hp, 82lbf.ft @ 9000 rpm. It all depends on what flavor you want. NOTE: The MT10 is suppose releases from cruise control by twisting in reverse direction on throttle. Laters Dude.
You know what you want already. I would go with the 9 just because the gas mileage and it's slimmer / more nimble. RSSV dude, those things will kill you!
I don't have any questions about the MT10, but I would love to know what video editor you use? On the MT09 vs the MT10, I would likely have picked the MT09. The MT09 has the best of both worlds. It has tons of usable power but also handles like a champ. I'd love to see you review the BMW S1000r naked bike. If you like the MT series i think you would be pleasantly surprised with the German monster. Lol!
@@BlockheadMoto I just tried one. I'm thinking, as I'm 52 now that a move from my GSXR600 to a hyper naked might be interesting. This is why I'm loving your videos, right now. Actually, all your videos are great. Lol! The 50+ Sportbiker
Here is my 2 cents....... The MT10 does sound better with that exhaust then the MT09, but you could get a better sounding exhaust for the 09 as well. MT09 will not drink the gas as much as the MT10. if you flashed the ECU and did the sprockets on the MT09 it would be smoother as well. Do you want to get a bike that you can only use 60-75% of the power most of the time (MT10) or a bike that you can use 100% or the power all the time (MT09)? You have GoldZilla for power......you put your heart and soul into that bike to have BIG power, so really to me why not get a MT09 as a fun bike that you can use all the power band on it and hooligan it up a bit. Just my thoughts. Great Vid as always.
Would y'all get the Yamaha MT 10 instead of the MT 09?! Let me know your thoughts between the two!
I would totally get one , but would have to lower it . lol
do it!!!!!
I'd go with the MT-09. That triple just sounds too fuckin cool.

I would keep the MT09SP or wait till they do a upgrade on the electrics on the MT10 like the did the MT09
😂I can definitely relate, can’t have enough of the looks and sound, and not just me, seems to get the attention of everyone else on the road.
Nice review
I have owned all three of this line of Bikes (wife has fz-07) I had a FZ-09 and have recently purchased the MT-10 and in my opinion there is no comparison from the MT-10 to either of the other bikes
Yes it is a beast but the suspension is so nice It gives you confidence that I found The 09 sapped from me.
I've picked myself up the MT10SP over here in Oz, best bike I've had. Have owned a 2017 MT09 as well, completely different bikes.
Cross plane crank, like an American V8.
Most inline 4 cylinder sport bikes have a flat plane crank.
Just bought an 2021 mt10 in the ice fluo colours, only done 400 miles so far so still running it in but I'm in love already 👊👊👊
My God! If I could have a second bike, this would be it. The exhaust note sounds like a smaller tuned, high revving v8. Beastly!
Get it bro. DO EEETTT!
Best sounding I4 ever! That crossplane crank helps it not sound like a bumblebee :D
I have 2019 MT10 and man, I have either owned or ridden all of the super naked and I find myself having the most fun on the MT10 but it just does not get the love it deserves. Such a great bike!
*Decepticons are attacking*
Oh wait it's just Blocks notification
I went from a 2016 MT-09 to a Kawasaki Z1000R, absolutely no regrets. If you can, try a Z1000 they seem to be a bit of a rare bike in the States.
This bike was never on my radar but it just sounds so good! Wow!
I started on sport bikes, they’re a whole different experience! MT 10 seems scary... 😅
I’ve got 17,800 miles on my fz10 and it’s been an amazing bike!
Transformer symbol fits it so perfectly 💯🔥
Lots of forums online say people engine blows randomly on these bikes. I owned one for a year only put 2,300 miles on it and it was leaking oil from gasket. Lots of people had this issue also. Sold the bike last Friday. Yamaha wouldn’t fix the issues because I put a mid pipe on the bike haha. Switched over to indian,
This one in the vid has almost 30K miles on it 🤯
The MT-10 is nice but it’s overkill. The MT-09 is nice and light with more than enough power.
QUESTION: So Jason TheMech and I just finished watching the video... ❤️ it but don’t be scared to go past 6,000 RPM😁
A touring screen will make a big difference. It’s a great bike. But getting old in the tooth. The new z h2 has been on my radar for a 10 replacement. But nakeds definitely need a tall screen for the interstate.
I absolutely love my 10. It's my dream bike.👍
I love my 2020 z900 but I’ve already started looking into adding the mt10 to the stable
Damn, wanted to see you drop it in mode 1 at least for a second 😁
Mt 09 and 10 are beast! The z900 is awesome as well! Might be a happy medium
If you hold the “trip” switch it switches between ambient temp and motor temp!
OMG Block the sound is like a racing formula 1 car, is the definition of SEXY into a sound, I love it.
Can you please identify the name of the exhaust system? That just sounds amazing
That MT-10 sounds mean!! I love that sound!
im getting one saturday, just put a down payment on a 2021 black mt10. i tried getting one for weeks and weeks i finally found one
I searched for MONTHS for my black one in 2017!
@@sloguyty5915 yeah i finally got my black one but the search and wait was so worth it.
I love my 2020 MT-10 came from a MT-07 big crazy difference.
Cant beat the sound of a CrossPlane crank! Get both Bro!
The sound is awesome !!! The bike is TROUBLE !!! Thrilling video ! Thanks for sharing !
What's the brand of exhaust were you having on the bike...??? I love the growling sound....... Thank you
The Highwinder
I know this video is older now, so this is for reference for other buyers.
There is a caveat to this though, I’d try to get a ride on a ‘21 version 09 SP, apparently they’ve made pretty decent changes to suspension and geometry which have yielded good improvements so that may suit you even more 🤷🏻♂️
XSR 900!
Stock exhaust or what exhaust?
Maybe you could remind us briefly how a quick-shifter works? How about a steering-damper as well? I ride an '09 FXDL which is a totally different universe, so some of these terms go over my helmet! I could google, but your 'splainin is usually easy to understand hahah. Keep up the good work man!
Stick with your SP. The new MT09 is supposed to be a big improvement in the handling department. MT10 is sweet though, particularly this one with the full exhaust.
I own this exact bike and I find mode 2 is perfect for every day use..
Great review.
....that low RPM sound though!!....sounds like V8 muscle!!....just get that one!!...everything is for sale with the right offer!😏...that thing is a beast!!....stay safe out there!...ride safe!!😎👍🤙👍🤙🇨🇦
Sounds like corvette in the higher rpms but the sound overall is intoxicating
If you like the mt09 you should look at the XSR900 as well. An mt09 with a suit on. Don’t know if you like the cafe racer look
The XSR still has the 847 instead of the new 890. Also the MT-09 SP has cruise.
MT-09 Get you into some trouble
MT-10 Get you outta some trouble
Always go bigger. If it were me I'd get the 10 you'll always second guess yourself when molding for more power on the 09.
Only thing that stopped me from going bigger was the insurance cost.... my god it was night and day
Mt10 just because of that exhaust note!!
MT 10 all the way babyy
I’m almost positive I saw this bike (and maybe you driving it) in the Winter Park area earlier this week. Great vid brotha, dope bike too
Depends what you want out of the bike. I know my mt09 is an angry little mofu. The 10 is much more refined. I prefer the angry version.
My opinion I'd rather get the Indian 1200 ftr over the the mt-10
I have a mt-10 and a ftr1200, both are great bikes. But out of all my bikes I’ll probably never sell my 10
You know what you want already. I would go with the 9 just because the gas mileage and it's slimmer / more nimble. RSSV dude, those things will kill you!
Good points!
Lol!
I use Adobe Premiere! 👍🏼 And I’d love to try an S1000R for sure, little harder to find though, haha
@@BlockheadMoto I just tried one. I'm thinking, as I'm 52 now that a move from my GSXR600 to a hyper naked might be interesting. This is why I'm loving your videos, right now. Actually, all your videos are great. Lol!
The 50+ Sportbiker
Sweet ride MT-01 is my fav of the MT line 🤘
I understand Shadetree Surgeon highly recommends the Ducati Multistrada....he might make you a great deal on his....
Damn bro, too soon 😂
