  • Many people have the Silhouette Studio Basic software and are very disappointed to find out that they cannot bring SVG files into the basic edition and use them.
    Here is a simple and free solution.
    Inkscape
    inkscape.org/r...
    Download and install Inkscape and in a few minutes, you will be on your way to converting your SVG files to DXF for use in Silhouette Studio Basic Edition.
    Enjoy!

    Thank you so much! My computer did not want to save any DXF files, but I could use convertio and make a SVG into DXF that way! This have saved me sooo much time and wondering. Because somehow, beyond my knowledge I have managed to make a SVG my silhouette have accepted earlier trough incscape. But I never remember how, it just takes maaany attempts and a lot of time. Today, after knowing about the file Silhouette accepts it takes so much less time! I can enjoy it now! 😁
    You have ended my suffering! 🤭

    Thank you so much for sharing this information. I need to learn how to use my Silhouette machines and since I am just a beginner, I didn't want to jump in with a program that was too much for this newbie. Thanks again.

      You need at least designer edition to bring in svg files. Go to business edition. Many more features.

    Just what I needed. Thank you. The size is a little off, but going to play with some settings to try and figure that out. I create exact size in inkscape and it is a little smaller in Sil Studios.
    Great video.

    Hi Holly, when I get to my "save as" dxf file, it gives me 2 choices. The first one is "desktop cutting plotter (Auto cad DXF R12 (*dxf) the second option is "desktop cutting plotter (Auto cad DXF R14 (*dxf). I have a Shiloutte Cameo 3 if that makes any difference. I don't know which one to pick, can you help me?

    • @TheSVGBlog
      @TheSVGBlog  2 роки тому

      Hi For Cameo you need DXF if you sent have Designer edition. I would try them both. I have not seen that. If you upgrade to business edition, you can save toSVG. The upgrade isn't very expensive and if you are going to do alot of designing it will save you heartaches. Hope that helps. Sorry for the delay I was out of town no Internet. 8-/ ~~Holly

    I make packaging mock-ups with a Cricut Maker before and I use Illustrator to create my dielines with two layers separated as cut and another, score which I then save it as a .svg with the two layer included. In Cricut's Design space, I just import my .svg file with the cut and score layers and just easily have Design Space determine which layer is which and just cut and score my dielines. I was thinking of trying the Cameo 4 which has a 24" version but I was wondering if I can have cut and score from a .dxf file into free the Silhouette Studio Basic edition like I can in Cricut, or will I be required to upgrade to a paid version in order to use one feature I needed?

      I believe you can bring in dxf. The score feature is different in cameo software. It is dashed lines. I can check to see if the import will work. ~~Holly

      One more thing. You will need the business edition to export to SVG from silhouette studio software. That is a pod upgrade. Does the help?

    • @johnnydwicked

      @@hollypike6363 is the paid version of the software a one time fee and can I use the code or license on multiple computers and devices without any issues?

    • @TheSVGBlog
      @TheSVGBlog  2 роки тому

      One time payment. I have it on computer and the app on iPad. As far as several computers. Great question... I do not know since I have only one. 8-)

    I just tried this and it still wants to save the SVG file as a SVG instead of DXF form inkskape!! Help!!

    • @TheSVGBlog
      @TheSVGBlog  2 роки тому

      You need to choose SVG from the drop down menu when saving.
