- Aloe vera is one of the most popular and scientifically proven plants to provide great medicinal and practical value! It's easy to learn how to propagate aloe vera plants and make more of them from one. In this video, you will also learn how to extract the gel correctly from the leaves for use at home!
Whatever you do, DON'T take leaf cuttings warns succulent specialist, Shirley Bovshow! The Aloe vera plant is much too plump and moist to propagate from leaves. Propagating aloe vera from leaf cuttings usually leads to a rotting plant. Some people may get lucky doing it this way but it is not the best way to multiply the aloe vera plant. Instead, Shirley suggests you transplant the "baby plants" or "daughter plants" that grow alongside the main plant. Shirley demonstrates step by step.

Thank you! Aloe vera has a chemical called subonent which is irritating to animals. Keep them away from it. The aloe vera gel can be extracted as well as the juice so it is OK to drink but needs to have the irritating yellow sap removed first
