last time i checked this wasnt in the orginal game and seeing it upset me the area i hated already from the classic game cause it was always a pain anyways this just made it worse due to the fact it locked me out of a upgrade, thanks needed this
on max puzzle difficulty figures are already moved, so it doesn't work there UPD: so I can fail it and restart with normal starting positions, didn't knew that

Ok so if anyone is curious, this guide is still viable however the "uncomplete" chess game is no longer present but some other obscure version of chess, I dont know chess sorry. So in a way this guide is great if you screw up the first time.
I got lucky and it still worked for me in 2024. I don't think they patched it out, you just have to get lucky and have the AI take this sequence of actions. I'm glad it worked for me lol.

I hate playing chess was thinking if I wanted to play board games I wouldn't be playing pc games the Ai seemed unbeatable until I found this had to save and reload few times to get it to do that start but glad it worked I was actually going mad lol
I'm ok when games asked me to do puzzles, mini games or some additional efforts in order to gain critical upgrades. But a full chess game with that misleading camera angle, high difficulty just felt so unnecessary, out of place and frustrating... Thanks for the video.👍
As far as I understand, when you first enter the zone, the chess board will be set to a random mid-game configuration. In my case, the board was set such that I could reach a checkmate in just 2 moves. I don't know how random the starting configuration is or if it always puts the player in such a strong position but my advice would be to check the state of that config first before resetting the match back to start.
Yeah. I created 60 possible start puzzles (20 for each difficulty, 17 being standard ‘chess puzzles’ with a solution possible normally with 2-5 moves IIRC) and 3 of the games are like a hoard chess variant, with multiple of certain pieces.

If Red makes different moves than in the video, just google "Next Chess Move calculator". Put the pieces in the right positions and click "calculate next move". Do the same move in the game. Switch between website and System shock with ALT+ TAB.

@@Draiko1998 but it's a part of the game and I hate that I'm not given the chance to be able to play a part in a game I'm playing just because some silly developer put in something like this assuming that everyone knows how to play chess or even just has desire to learn. personally I don't want to but luckily there are a lot of sites online that tell you what to do, move by move, and I even got through this stupid part, I finished the game, I uninstalled it and I put it in oblivion to never play it again
@@sonosoloio I will only agree with this partially because they should have not put something as important as inventory space upgrade behind a quite difficult chess AI. Either put an easier level AI to play against, or put something less important such as a gun mod for winning the game. The inventory upgrades are perhaps the most important things to collect.

It's imo quite underwheling how small the inventory upgrades are.
An entire row per upgrade would have been acceptable.

If you lose it will reset. After the first reset I had this board.

i thought the same. when you stand on the platform in front of the door you enter from and push the button itll raise you up and reset the board!
