Ohh that intro was so sick!

@@AzelJNRHe’s just mad he couldn’t make an animation half as good
Definitely a great animation 🎉

Gamecube might be 20 years old, but it's ability to render hundreds of NPCs at once still stands the test of time.
Better than both Pokémon games on the switch lol
@@TwilightChomperEnthusiast gonna need that burn heal
Hundreds of flat images are very easy to render on many systems.
@@RipScaper it depends on how theyre set up and how many draw calls they cause
the gamecube worked weirdly and has an easier time with specifically that
I tend to think of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures the most in relation to this.
There’s a toad loaded out of bounds in the boggly woods because he’s used for a trouble later in the game. But it’s completely optional
Have to say it, I kinda wanted to see how the boat in the intro does its "paper-thin flip" despite being a 3d model.
i’ve watched it frame by frame and can kinda see where the model changes, it’s either a model swap or the boat is actually getting squished on the x/z axis
@@kiwi__1011 In the remake, it's definitely a model swap. I did a frame-by-frame, and it's quite clear that the boat turns _shiny_ when it gets paperized, and un-shines when 3D again.
In the original game, it's a frame-buffer trick manipulating on-the-fly screenshots. Used quite a lot for effects like blowing things away and switches creating objects.
@@MirrorHall_Clay ...You know, I always wondered how that worked. That's actually really cool that the GameCube could do that, considering it's a difficult trick in _modern_ game engines (due to _not_ having such low-level access to VRAM)...
Man still happy they gave ttyd its own remake instead of the 3d all stars treatment
Just too bad they made the graphics worse and it only runs at 30 fps.
@@otaking3582how are the graphics worse
@@otaking3582 The graphics are clearly better in the remake. There is no argument. But the frame-rate was lowered unfortunately. Luckily it’s not too noticeable in a game like this.
@@otaking3582 There's always D0lph1n for when you crave the OG graphics. And the Switch version has the "Nostalgia Tunes Badge" for the original soundtrack. Lots of good options.
@@pankakesyrip4677 Too overly detailed, and the lighting is too harsh.

That toad is used in this room for a trouble, where you have to defeat the enemies so he can pass.
The galaxy of dry bones is geninely moving to look at.
Boundaries were broken! Nice work on this one dude :)
I never played the original so I can’t wait to try this remake
You'll be glad you did! Original copies of the GameCube version can be a bit pricey if you don't want to emulate.
@@MachFiveFalcon Honestly its sad it can be tough for someone to play the original legit.
I feel very lucky to still have mine from childhood, and am SO HAPPY its getting a remake for a new generation to experience!
This game + Luigis mansion totally made my childhood.
Play the original instead, this has censorship and adds gender bender crap
@@impachoblue1301 I have a sadly hilarious story about buying my personal copy a few years back. Gamestop sent me a copy with reidue along the center, couldn't make it pat the demo scene. Based on reviews of TTYD, it seems this particular copy had been returned at least three times prior, and just sent back out into circulation. One more person seems to have recieved it after I returned it.
I got a different copy from Ebay. Ironically a Gamestop copy that still had its label from like a decade ago lol
@@impachoblue1301 I'm exactly the same, except I missed out on Luigi's Mansion but had a friend who was really into it. My mom gave me a choice between Wave Race: Blue Storm and Luigi's Mansion, and I chose Wave Race for some reason lol. Still a great game though!
I love how this game really shows off a lot of interesting game dev techniques with its 2d/3d design combo. The use of perspective tricks like the book (tbh thats such a simple effect, there probably isnt an easier way to do that? it looks great) and the way they layer character parts is really cool.
5:59 head canon is that's either Bowser's dad OR Bowser when he was trying out a mustache to seem more attractive after Mario seemed to have better luck than him.
I figured one of his minions did it as a prank. 😂
@@jadaw644 Could very well be both. Bowser tried having a mustache, it didn't work, and his minions made that painting so they would never let him live it down.
Roy Mustang mood
I’ve always read it as his dad
2:26 If the localization team got creative, they could've easily called it something like "Troopa Transport" or something along those lines
7:19 all the charcoal stored/clipping together looks like a crazy (yet kinda cute!) amalgamation creature wearing a pirate hat. Just me? Probably... 😅
I like to think, that Bowser, in his never-ending quest to be cooler than Mario, made the Koopa that painted his portrait give him a decidedly manly moustache.
"Nokonoko Freight" is likely a reference to the Japanese courier company "Kuroneko Yamato Transit"
I adore the collection of cursed faces you weren't meant to see in this episode, especially with the funny angles and FOVs. Good stuff! Makes me a bit hyped to play the remake!
Your intros are always sick, dope, thx for the amazing years
When the fish chomps mario and the game stores his arms, it looks like it's because the animation for flailing removes his arms and just shakes his hands rapidly. He's on the screen for like, what, 3-4 frames? It's not enough time for a kid to get a good enough look on a GameCube, so it's just another workaround to avoid unnecessary and tedious animations. Either move his arms which costs time and money, or remove them completely and just shake the hands for .25 seconds
I don't know if you ever did a boundary break of Okami, but that would be a cool one to see.
I second the "of not yet done" vote for Okami.
Okami and Soul Calibur II are my dream Boundary Breaks.
Was so pumped after seeing the members only preview-full video definitely delivered! : )
6:07 I assume that is meant to be Bowser's father / a previous Koopa King, with the facial hair implying it to be an older ruler, not the young, hot-head Bowser is shown to be
About that portrait at 3:15, an even somewhat experienced artist would not draw that even if he literally had only 5 seconds. I suspect it was intentionally crude.
It's unused, so it's most likely a placeholder
The thing is that this is a video game artist. Video game developers will make very crude artwork as a placeholder, or if they know a player is never going to see it anyways.
I kind of assumed it was supposed to be a crayon drawing from when they were kids.
@@dubblebubbletoilandtrouble6646Part of me kind of wants it to be something one of the devs kid's drew and they slipped it into the game.
Mario without a mustache is crazy
the toad stored underneath boggly woods does have a purpose. having replayed the game on the switch recently, one of the postgame troubles at the trouble center is of a toad who wants to visit the great tree but cant because of the hostile monsters on the wat to it, and asks for someone to take care of those enemies. the toad is probably there and interactable before you defeat the monsters but began the trouble.
8:57 every time I shave someone tells me I look like a baby, but this is literally baby mario
Mario's room is probably based on the first paper Mario game where you can actually explore the house
was so confused the entire time whether this was talking about the original or remake
About halfway through the video, I started hearing rain and thunder effects, and wondered "why did he add those?"
Then the video ended, and the noise didn't, and I remembered I had Minecraft running in the background.
I need to see someone make a port of super paper Mario to the switch using the ttyd remake as a base.
I'm really excited for the new game, thanks for covering this!
As usual, wonderful episode! Thank you so much for these, Shesez!
8:20 that lone toad is used for a postgame sidequest, where he asks you to beat all the enemies in the room for him
So my guess to the reason why the pages in the intro are like that is because the flipping pages need to be culled, brought in and out at the same position, but the pages underneath need to be visible whilst the pages are moving. Ultimately the page we are currently reading does not need to be a 3D object UNTIL it is flipped, and having every page layered as 3D objects, especially ones with enough vertices to roll over smoothly, is costly for memory and creates problems for lining up the next page. Essentially they want the pages we are currently reading to be static in the frame, they can't be layered lest the pages clip through each other at the same position or change perspective in a stack. The best solution is to just play a video with each static page, and then cover up the transition with the current page popping in as a 3D model, perfectly lined up, playing its folding animation, and effectively disappearing into the roll on the left.
Mario's House is the same house from Paper Mario 64
5:10: To me they look like Poké balls
The lamp inside peaches room uses the Purple Pokeball Texture Image
This. I saw that and immediately thought pokeball and how do you not see that? One of those things where you're thinking one thing, so you can't see something different. 🙂
Thanks for another high quality episode.
Still can't believe after all these years, that there has never been a Wii Party episode of boundary break
I'm currently playing through the remake & its funny, most people are reliving old memories from decades ago, while the last time I played TTYD on Gamecube was less than a year ago 😂 the remake is AMAZING though! & so is this video! Awesome job, Shesez! I'm proud to own a Shesez plush!
8:18 That Toad is there because one of the trouble centre quests has a Toad appear there, and asks you to defeat the enemies so he can get to the great tree
8:19 that Toad is used in a trouble center request
"Roust these cads!"
I love your energy in all of your videos 💪 keep up the amazing work!!
Did You Know?
mario....
mario
Is cool
is the best video game character
5:18 I'm guessing it's the mesh they use for the transparent halo around the wall lights, but with a normal render. I do wonder if that was intentional or if they meant to have that halo applied to the lamp in some capacity.
I like to think that one of the dev team's kids drew the portrait of mario luigi and peach in mario and luigi's bedroom and it was put in the game even though it wasnt expected to be seen 😊
I’m hopefully gonna get the remake today :P
Want to let us know?
@@velvetbutterfly I did!
Starring at the guy at 11:13, now that I see the difference in yellows, definitely just rocking a vest with the chest out. Its so hard to see though, cant stop seeing a tshirt
I was super excited seeing TTYD getting a remaster and it is FUN. All the QoL changes are very welcoming as well.
8:19 That Toad appears in that section after you finish the chapter. He's part of a Trouble Centre task.
I should play this
"It's Vivian on top and Mario on the bottom!" No wonder Peach keeps getting "kidnapped" by Bowser lol
One thing.
Aspect ratios are read as ratios, not multiples, so 16 _to_ 9.
08:59 considering his pose with his left hand its probably for the best he didnt have his mustache..
I love the style of paper Mario so much. Very interesting things are happening out of bounds with this one. I'll have to check that video out now. Thank you!
The bugs were really cute ToT fuzzy lil flies
Whoever animated that intro needs a raise
10:27 - Bowser straight up looks like Lord Brevon
I'm assuming the Toad that appears in the void under Boggly Woods is the one that appears during one of the late game (post-game? i don't remember exactly) troubles where a Toad is trying to get to the Great Tree but needs help getting rid of the enemies on the way. Neat that he's just always in the scene though!
Thank you so much for this one Shesez! Your passion for boundary breaking is always inspiring! Great throw back episode ❤️🔥
3:17 I love that portrait so much, it's kinda adorable lol
We just got both a boundary break and a lost bits episode of this game within the same hour. Awesome
5:28 I think that the texture within the lamp might be the same as the one on the shine of the lights just lower quality because of the rescising and the lightbulb is actually another texture put on top of the shine texture in order to give a bit of a 3d illusion.
Basiclly I'm saying the the bulb and the shine of the lights in the lamp room might be two diffrend immages and not just one.
THAT INTRO WAS AWESOME
that intro was so cool!!
Oh did they reuse the Mario house from 64 some how? Cause in that one you can visit home and go into that room and the secret room underneath for the Luigi side adventure 3:03
I can’t wait for a video made on the remake :3
Very cool intro! Glad to see you doing an episode on my favorite game. :) thanks Shesez
Still got the original, but going to buy the Switch one regardless
These dry bones were like a rendition of Saturn.
Deve Cube Count +1🎉
3:00 you can enter the room if you just go back to the house in game, you can enter the room for a star piece, even sleep in the bedroom
I think my favorite part of this video was the opening. The constellation of Dry Bones is too funny!
Still need to play these games.
The lone Boggly Woods Toad is Doe T.. he asks you to clear the room's enemies to get to the Great Tree in his post Chapter 8 trouble.
Old Deuteronomy in Paper Mario TTYD confirmed
5:15 I believe that the texture is the actualy light coming from the lamps and not a texture for the lamp itself. That way it would make sense if the middle of the texture was darker/transparent so you could still see part of the lamp
the tapistry of drybones makes me wonder if the game devs had any kind of internal camera tool that allowed them to even see that they had done that
Thank you for another wonderful video!
I would like to see how things that can be blown are turned/flipped in 3D!
It's cool they fixed the translation issues and dumb censoring from the original
You know I have been watching your Region Breaks for awhile, I should have given Boundary Break more of a Chance, great video
Toad is bleeding on his mouth.
Nothing in the palace of shadows, Creepy steeple, bombs fortress, cortez island or any of that? Like how does the background look when doopliss jumps out, or shadow queen final form, The wampa fruit animal u bonk?
This intro was amazing. Here's hoping this video can at least reach 200k views by the end of the month.
at 6:12 you say bowser has a mustache, i think it looks like hes smoking cigar with smoke coming out of it heheh
I hope you're planning on doing the remake too
I wish you had showed what is in the yellow block in the 3-1 Bowser world that's covered by unbreakable blocks. I couldn't break it to find out what's in it and I can't find anywher ethat says or shows what's in it. 🤔
Nicee, i was waiting for this one!
Seeing how every character that gets called into a scene at some point is stored below it until prompted, kinda sheds some light on one of the reasons that the remake would run at 30 fps. I can truly appreciate the remake for how it looks on the Switch from a technical standpoint. It's fine as a 30 fps game. I'm just SO HAPPY IT'S REAL! And I can't wait til I can get a copy!
10:35 Dude is built like the Xbox logo.
The X-Nauts would definitely be evil enough to be X-Box fans.
I'm gonna have nightmares about the layered characters and objects, lol!
7:45 "why are mario's arms stored way outside the boudaries?" probably for the same reason as the the characters stored underneath the map. Except instead of the vertical position being deep below, the depth position is set incredibly far and the other coorinate values set to Zero (and with how the location coordicatees act, end up placing it very near to where the world-camera lies, with the other coordinate values being Zero), Or at least that is my theory: someone switched the XYZ thinking it was XZY (with Y and Z commonly being Height, but differing between conventional preferences).
Super papier mario next!
Well done Daniel!
Why does Gombella have a visor? Why is your HP, FP, and BP so high? 8:54 That's basically Baby Mario.
Peach: 🎶I never get naked in your shower.🎶
15:06 Did you have to use that image?
Super underrated video, really interesting stuff
(Human here) Leavin' a comment but I won't watch the video yet: I wanna play the game so I'll save it for later :D
