Thanks a lot. My Matec BECs will be here today so I can make this power lead. I just don't like the electric snap and blue spark I see every time I plug the lead into the balance plug. I will feel a lot better just feeding 9v to the camera rather than 16 or 17 volts.
This is an awesome idea, been using pads on the flight controller to power my go pro without any issues, but definitely considering doing this and being safe
I just build something very similar to this. I made the connector to battery balance leads swappable. I did that so I could connect to 4S or 3S. The process is the exact same except for adding a 2 pin connector to swap out the battery connectors for whichever I'm using.
So would the voltage regulator go to a female 2 pin connector and then each of your 3s and 4s balance plus would be connected to a male 2 pin connector? So you could just make one of these devices and then swap out the balance plug?

The other says bec into bec doesn’t make sense. You said capacitor not necessary. but it’s saver I guess? And what about this fettec spike absorber? You still run that with a capacitor and the betafpv bec?
@@Diown To be honest I don't fully trust the BetaFPV BEC even with this adapter. I've heard the BEC itself can be faulty and cause spikes even being fed a lower voltage. At the very least it's not receiving a full 16.8v so that should minimize the size of a spike. Personally, I prefer to use the iFlight BEC on my naked Hero8. I'll continue to use this adapter to power my Hero6, but if it dies I won't make another Hero6. I also use this to power my Hero8 not for the protection but for the convenience of plugging in to my balance lead.
my 2.5inch quad ill be mainly using 2S battery. Using the betafpv bec, would you recommend to solder onto FC power lead (which have a 25v 150µF capacitor) should be enough with 2S? Or should I still use the matek + capacitor onto battery lead?
I have done this exactly how you did in the tutorial. I get sparks every time I connect the balancer port. Last week the capacitor exploded after plugging the balancer in. Holy sh1t almost got blast my ears 😂 I don’t know what I did wrong

I have the original dobo head mount for the dji fpv drone, and i have an 8 hero black (full size) and a geprc hero 8 black naked. I have both with same settings, wifi off and all the same settings. Mine does not have a capacitor but does have a bec and was working great until i plugged the lead in backwards and it smoked now no power to the gopro will replacing the bec work ?

Guys! Be aware that it drains only last cell of your pack, better idea is to buy a BEC with correct wiring or to soder your gopro power directly to bat leads on controller

Nice video. One question, isn’t this method making the batteries out of balance since you are only connecting it to one cell? If you parallel connect it to all the cell would that be the solution? It can take up to 30v right so it will not fry right?

So recording goes on, but the I get a video still. Any idea what is happeling? I tried different SD cards. This makes no difference.
Hmm, not sure what could be causing that. I've had it come back without recording as well, but it's usually because I pressed the button and accidentally stopped the recording.
Happened to me as well!! I tried to swap between SD cards with no result whatsoever. I have the GoPro 6 attached to the beta 95x V3 directly. Did you came out with the solution? Starting to think it may be a GoPro problem...

As you also have the Insta360 SMO 4K, do you know if this step is necessary with that, as it should accept 2S to 6S voltage from the get go. I am looking for a balance to SMO 4K power cable all over the internet but can't find any imformation. I don't wanna take the drone apart to connect the camera to power, I would love to just plug it into the battery directly somehow.
I trust the SMO 4k a lot more with direct voltage from the battery. This may not be necessary. I haven't heard any reports of a cooked cam. You might just want to buy a balance lead plug and solder it to the wire that comes with the SMO.

Will a 25 220uf capacitor also work instead of the 25 470uf? What does the Higher micro farad value do? absorp spikes better? I would just make a power adapter to adjust and pre check my gopro filming settings to a 4s lipo and then put the gopro on the quad afterwards, there it gets power from the FC
Any idea what it would take to support running off of a 6S balance lead? I want to run this setup on my 7" quad which is 6S. I know iFlight has a USB-C to 6S lead adaptor but that would require stripping the Hero 8 down and leaving the USB-C connector attached. I was hoping I could use this connector as the power source instead of the USB-C connector.
As long as the BEC takes up to 6S and you use a 6S balance plug you should be good to go! The BetaFPV BEC doesn't take 6S but I believe the one I used here does.
do i really need the BEC, if i have the gaprc bec board for my naked hero 8? i takes up to 6s, so a 35v ~500uF capacitor should be enough, am i correct?

Interesting, I didn't realize you could do 5v to 5v and have it still work. You should be fine. That may even be better because the BETAFPV BEC is known to cause voltage spikes up to the input current.
I killed a camera plugging directly in to the BetaFPV BEC, so this is my safety precaution. None of this is required, but it's just an added layer of protection.
I bought iFlight type C 5V balance plug power cable for my gopro hero 7. Plan to naked my gp7 using Betafpv Case V2. Can i use this cable to power up the BEC (replace the USB type C with BEC connector)
I think that could work. You might want to test the voltage output of that cable. I'm not sure if it outputs the full voltage or only 5v. If it's only 5v and doesn't output enough current it may not be enough to power the GoPro.

@@whiffles I did. So I think the LED on the bec is bad I connect via app and it works even buttons just not led. I did give the bec 11v as the external bec I’m using is variable
The green blinking light thing is a known issue. Beta fpv mentions it on their site. It should still work. I usually just unplug and plug back in and it’s fine.

Cool but you need to ditch the BetaFPV BEC it doesn't make sense to run 2 BEC's like you're doing. The BetaFPV BEC has killed many GoPro's do to inrush voltage spikes. People have measured over 8v upon power up. I myself cut the BetaFPV Bec out and just use the same Matek BEC and the BetaFPV buttons.
@@whiffles well it's interesting cause I completed the flight, everything was fine up until I unplugged the battery. Next time I plugged it in, the gopro refused to turn on I thought Betafpv BEC died, but I tried a different working one and it was still dead

Personally I found that you can solder to the pin while it's in the balance plug, just do it on a low temp and quickly. Thanks for the video!

I've been doing this, but swapping the cap out for a Fettec spike absorber, I think it may be better.
I was considering just using the Fettec alone without the BEC. That's probably sufficient.

The outer wires of the balance lead are exactly the same voltage as the XT30. It's only the internal wires that represent the different cells.

I believe 220uf should be fine. Adding the capacitor in the first place is somewhat redundant. It would work without it even.

I'm not sure, but I believe iFlight has a balance lead to USB-C adapter. I haven't tried it though.

Turn on front LED in camera preferences. It indicates as the back LED after this conversion.
Is same moded cable necessary for SMO 4k?
The SMO 4k handles the power much better, so it isn't necessary. It's still handy to make a balance lead adapter for it though.

It's just unfortunate that such a neat product is so flawed. I really like the case, but it seems even solutions like this aren't 100% effective.

Which cam are you using? The newer boards like the iFlight Hero8 BEC and the SMO 4K don't need this. It's mostly for the flawed Hero6 BEC.
