Dude...I can't tell you the amount of frustration and dead end arguments I've had with GoPro on resolving this issue....I actually stopped filming for several months waiting for a firmware update solution. You just totally solved all of that. Now I can finally use my external batteries again! Thank you so much brother! I can't believe GoPro didn't offer this as a solution.

I have a GoPro hero 9 and I bought a digi power external battery pack to record my sons 9 inning baseball game - just bought a GoPro 11 to record from different angle at the same time but the new digi power batter pack did not work due to the power error - I was about to return the camera not wanting to deal with the issue when I stumbled onto your video - I’m not very techie but your video instructions were so simple and easy to follow! Amazingly easy!!
I did run into a problem due to the fact that my SD card was write protected so I had to figure out how to undue that nearly killed my brain cells when I figured out that there was a switch on the card that turns that feature off!! After my brain fart- everything was a piece of cake thanks to your instructions and my family was giving me strange looks after I used qr control and powered my new GoPro using the digi battery!! I’m proud of myself!! You’re a great teacher!! The explanation of why you need a lighter batter for your uses was enlightening Love your GoPro cases! Do you have a link to buy them?

I use the GoPro to record my hockey games when I play and it constantly overheats, so I got an external battery to use (with the door that allows for external chargers, and it would give me the "Not Enough Power" error message. I followed your steps and it works! I will be testing it tonight to see if it lasts longer before overheating, thank you very much for taking the time to explain this in clean, clear detail.
after multiple tests, the external usb pack allows me to record at 4k 60 fps (on GoPro 12) for hours and hours without overheating, sooooooo cool, thank you again

I occasionally like to use my GoPro 11 as a dash cam while driving on some trips.The battery would not last long and overheat quickly! Thank you so much for this fix!! I can now use my GoPro as a dash cam without the battery! I just use the USB-C to USB-C cable. Note, it still didn't work using the USB-C ports in my 2022 Chevy Silverado, but did work when using the plug adapter from my iPad and plugged into the 3-prong power outlet on my center console.
Thanks for this, resolved my GEPRC Naked GoPro issue. Should have flashed this firmware before doing the teardown but I didn't see it mentioned. Ended up connecting the original battery compartment carefully under the replacement BEC. Flashed and QR code worked great and was able to reassemble. If you got to the end of your naked GP build and ran into this 'not enough power' issue don't panic!

Oh man, you are a life saver. I wanted to take loooooong time lapses, and my battery pack, which I KNOW does 2 ampa 5v would not work. I could not even get it to recognise a Google 5v 2amp wall wart, or a Samsung 5v 2a. I was tearing my hair out. So simple and so useful. Thanks heaps

Cheers mate. For a little extra clarification for anyone else who might be struggling with this. I had several issues along the way I'd like to highlight as well as offer some signs you may be progressing. If you covered this already and I missed it I aplogize. I had trouble getting the labs firmware update to install. A couple times it looked like it went through but didn't (you can check in the preferences/about camera section to make sure it has taken the labs firmware version). Once it flat out errored. It's annoying because it deletes the Update folder and you have to remove the SD card again and re-extract the files. When it properly takes the firmware it should show "update complete" with a checkmark. Then you should find it on the correct version in the camera info screen. With the Labs firmware now properly installed you are now able to scan the QR code. If you were having trouble with that step there's a good chance the Labs firmware didn't take properly as the QR functionaliy appears to come along with it. If the Labs firmware is installed and working properly you don't even need to hit the shutter button it will automatically read the QR code just by focusing in on it and you will see a checkmark on screen confirming it has been read. Now you can power down, pop your battery out and use your totally legit external power source without the software getting in your way.
Another indicator that you are running GoPro Labs firmware and it is properly installed is the on-screen notification when you powerup "GoPro Labs Beta Firmware, Participation Terms Apply" shown at 9:03 of the video.

@@AerialPixel I am not getting that message shown at 9:03. My name will change if I change it in the iOS app and scan the QR code, so that's working. But I see no welcome message. But my firmware update in the About section appears correctly. I'm confused and don't know if they changed something or if I've done something wrong.
Thanks, I used the GoPro Labs update. Bought one of those Flywoo Naked GoPros and I was getting this error until I loaded the firmware update into onto the SD card.

There were reports that the latest firmware updates fixed this, but I can verify that it has not. It will only work if also using in conjunction with the Media Mod accessory. Follow the GoPro Labs firmware procedure in the video to get rid of the NOT ENOUGH POWER message.

Strange, the firmware release notes for the Hero 10 says it was fixed back in March, I haven't verified since I use GoPro Labs firmware on all my GoPros

I just updated yesterday with a new hero 11 and my older hero 11 that already had the Tubs update for continuous power. Unfortunately, it took away my tubs update and caused my old camera not to work anymore with continuous power, and my new Gopro still doesn't work with continuous power. I would recommend not using the update for an external power source.
@@FishingWithBadger after updating to the standard firmware, you can add the GoPro labs firmware again. Still works on all my GoPros on the latest firmware. Just make sure you download the latest version of the labs firmware.

I transfered everything from my SD-Card to the Quick App, After That I formated the SD Card to have again space for new films

Thank you. I did this months ago, but the latest update to the $hitty gopro quick app forces you to update firmware. I wouldn't even use the app, but it's the quickest way to delete videos and set the time, for situations where you can't leave an external battery plugged in.
Whenever GoPro releases a new firmware they also release a new GoPro Labs firmware, just download and install the latest Labs firmware and you're good-to-go.

One of the biggest differences is the 8:7 sensor. The HERO11 is SO much better
back again, just got the hero 12 and my 4s quads are a bit less grippy when banking, i'm hoping this weight saving will bring it back. i'll get back here if i can drop the update file directly from pc onto camera as i dont have a card reader.
couldnt upload directly to gopro 12, had to use an old firefly camera to drop the update file in, which my pc got very confused and fussy about, but i opened devices and threatened to change properties... and it suddenly appeared in and i was able to drop file, all good, thanks.
Unfortunately plugging a GoPro into a computer and powering it on will only allow you to read from it, not write to it.
Everything worked but my 11 black refuses to scan the qr code. Got update complete message and confirmed most recent version in camera settings. 2.20. Updated 2 more times and still won't scan. Any suggestions?

Yes just search QR Control in your app store.
Any help with using my phone as a mobile hotspot and I keep losing connection with the Gropro.
You should be able to control the GoPro without Live View, it uses Bluetooth to do this. If you do go into Live View it will switch to WiFi which will turn off your hotspot.

It shouldn't have any affect on stand-alone power with a GoPro battery. The TUSB parameter only takes affect when it is plugged into USB power and no battery is present.
Trying this with my Hero 12 and got as far as the QR code on QRControl app. Camera says "Invalid QR Code." when I go to scan it with my GoPro. Any ideas on that?
What commands are you adding in QR control? Have you tried a basic QR code command?
Hi Ryan, Thanks for this very useful solution. It fixed my Gopro11 issue. Do you have a solution for the Gopro 11 Mini? It won't Since the battery is not removable, it won't charge while recording.
It's normal for the battery to not charge while recording. The latest GoPro's have done this to keep from overheating. Instead of charging the battery it just draws from the external power source. You will still have unlimited battery from your external power source, it just won't charge the internal battery at the same time.

Hi Ryan again. I tried again plugging my Hero 11 Mini and ( as you said) it doesn't charge while recording but it consumes the internal battery instead of the plugged 5V 2amp power bank. I wish to find a way to make the Mini to use the power bank instead of its own battery. How can I figure this out? Thanks!
is it possible to print a camera case that covers the wire because I want to set up a camera that will record the rain outside but I want it to be able to last more than just 1 hour. Just want to make it alittle bit more waterproof thats all for the rain
I would suggest getting GoPro's USB Passthrough door, it is weatherproof (not waterproof) but think it should do the job for you:

Not sure if you're still responding but I have a gopro 12 black and did the firmware update via the gopro quick app on my phone and the camera won't register any qr codes from the QR control app. Every code gets "invalid qr code". Not sure what is going on
You can't install the GoPro Labs firmware through the Quick App. You need to do it manually. Go to the GoPro Labs website and download the firmware for the Hero 12 and copy it to your SD card. Pop your SD card, power it on and in and it will install.

I had to re-install this on my Hero 11. Mine shows my name that I entered to customize the camera so I know the QR worked, but I do not have a message confirming TUSB is active. I don't have the welcome sort of message either. Did they stop doing that? I played around with changing the camera name and that changes but no message at all on TUSB. How does one know the change took effect? Thank you.
I will update our Hero 11 to the latest Labs Firmware and see if they changed anything sometime this weekend. In all the past updates they haven't changed anything with the screen messages though.
@@AerialPixel Thanks for the response. It's weird. I went through the process to re-install it. Same result. Weird part...a single time out of about 15 re-starts, it showed the message that TUSB was active (and that was it). All the other times it just showed my name (no other messages). I've found that if I start the camera outside of the media mod, it will show my name and then (sometimes slowly, sometimes very quickly) will show the TUSB feature message. If I put it in the media mod, it shows my name, and then shows only part of the next messages like: "Feat" and that's all that shows. I'm also having a heck of a time with GoPro Media Mod performance in general. Cuts off randomly. Media Mod not recognize. Not sure if related to this or not but probably not. Thx.
I updated my Hero 11 to the latest Labs firmware v2.20.70 and also put the camera in the Media Mod. The TUSB message still displays every time I power on the camera. Perhaps the bad connection you have on your media mod is interrupting the messages for some reason. However it sounds like TUSB feature should be working on yours if you've seen the partial message on powerup. Easiest way to tell would be to remove your battery and plug it into an external power source, just make sure it's minimum 5V and 2amps.
Anyone know a workout for a naked gopro with the same error. However don’t have the back screen or ability to power with gopro battery.

when i do this, it allows me to turn on and keep the gopro on without battery, but soon as i press record it shuts the camera off and corrupts the file. gopro hero 10
Your power source still needs to be 2A minimum. If it's turning off when you start recording your power source probably isn't 2A.

As mentioned in the video the QR Control app is available for Android and iOS, go to your app store and search for QR Control.

Was the firmware installation successful? When you turn the camera on does it say GoPro Labs like in the video?
If it was unsuccessful install the GoPro Labs firmware again, make sure you download the correct version and copy the update file to the root of your SD card.

Can this work with a camera gimbal?
It would depend on the output power of your gimbal. It would need to supply 5 volts at 2 amps.
I can't scan the QR code... When I look at it I just get a QR code come up on camera with a red tick. But when I test it still doesn't work...
Okay after watching another vid on this, you need to make sure that on the QR Control app that the 'Permanent' box under TUSB is selected...
When you power on the camera does it say TUSB is enabled? If it doesn't make sure you have the value for TUSB set to 1 (which is on) also tick the box for make permanent.
@@AerialPixel yes as per the above permanent wasn't ticked. Sorted... But then the next issue I had was that when I used it with media mod and no external mic it didn't record audio 🤦
@MattsFishingEscapes That is odd, I haven't tried it with the Media Mod. I wonder if the Mod requires internal battery power instead of pass-through power to function. I will try it over the next couple days and report back.
@MattsFishingEscapes I added the media mod to the mix and it records audio through the external mic (the one built into the Media Mod)
After this settings battery level show incorrect , has stock 80% procent.
With the battery removed and a cable plugged in it should read "NO BATT" if you have a percentage showing your battery is still installed (which defeats the whole purpose of this video).
How does my gopro scan the QR code? Its not scanning anything in photo or video mode. can I just scan your QR code? I successfully downloaded the QR program and made the changes on my phone but I cannot transfer the fix to the gopro

Does the GoPro Labs banner scroll across the screen when you power the camera on? If it doesn't the firmware update didn't work. Check the 9:02 mark of the video.
Do not see a banner at the start but i re did the updater and its 1.5. Maybe your fix does not work with 10? Any chance I can use your QR code for my gopro 10 if I can ever get the QR reader u on the Gopro 10 ? @@AerialPixel
Got the scan working :-) Thank you! Had to delete all data on memory card and just put in the fix only nothing else on memory cards. Now I scanned my QR code but the camera stays on without a battery but once you press "record" it shuts down? @@AerialPixel

Weird, My Hero 11 scanned the code and all but still says not enough power.. edit: It actually works well just not with media mod :(
Be sure to check the "Make Permanent" option. I haven't tried it with the Media Mod though.

It sounds like the GoPro Labs firmware wasn't properly installed then. Try to install the GoPro Labs firmware again, make sure you select the correct version for your camera.

Please follow the instructions in the video to install the GoPro Labs firmware. Then you will be able to scan QR codes.

Did your GoPro Labs firmware installation complete successfully? If it did you should see the GoPro Labs firmware notice shown at 9:03 in the video. If you don't see that your GoPro Labs firmware update didn't take, try installing it again.
scan codes in linear. wide or SV disfigures the qr too much to read
Scanning QR codes actually works in all lens types including Wide, Superview and Hyperview. If it doesn't work your camera is too close to the code, it is very distorted when close. Put the camera in front of the QR code and slowly back it away until it beeps signaling it got it. I've found around 6-8 inches away is best for Superview and about 8-10inches away is best for Hyperview.
@@AerialPixel qr codes that have lots of info will not scan in anything but linear. no matter the distance. thats how it works on both my hero 10's and my old hero 11 mini, and everyone i know of that uses gopro labs. even with it being printed out and scaled up size for sharper image scanning. linear only for the 3 cameras. its best to just use linear for setting up/scanning, then selecting preferred lens, or going linear and scanning a qr that takes you out of linear. i think its more of a glitch with it working in distorted lenses like SV lol
Weird, I've never had a problem on any of mine and I use very complex codes on my Hero 11, Hero 11 Mini, Hero 10, Hero 10 Bones, Hero 9 and Hero 8's. Even when scanning with the date and time option on to set the time on my naked GoPros where it is constantly changing. Are you using QR Control? If so try bumping up your brightness or scan it in the shaded area, It needs to be high contrast, then just pull the camera back slowly, works without fail for me. Hope that helps, resetting it every time would be a pain.

Which Naked GoPro do you have? This will work with any Hero 10 or 11 with the GoPro Labs firmware. Striping it down to make it naked doesn't change the mainboard or it's ability to use the Labs firmware. However, naked cameras shouldn't need the TRUST USB parameter as they have their own built-in BEC, you shouldn't get that error in the first place.

@@treyhankee1858 As with all Naked Hero 9, 10 and 11's you must use the original battery and the original power supply cable to power the motherboard in order to do a firmware update. If you don't have the cable or battery tray you can purchase them online, make sure you purchase the correct version, the GP11 is different than the 9 and 10

Easy way. connect cable power to GoPro and start recording then remove the battery.
Not really, as soon as you swap LiPo packs you have to do the battery reinsert, power-on, remove battery sequence all over again. It's much easier to turn on the Trust USB Power option once and never have to worry about it again IMHO.
