Whitney's music director makes it clear that the superbowl version was pre recorded due to condition on field which would be full of multiple sounds such as Jets, crowds, etc, not because of Whitney could not do it. So he asked whitney to perform again live in this welcome home concert.

@@AJimiDigginKat I've always heard that Whitney was insistent that she sang live along with the track at the Superbowl bc it was actually the NFL that insisted on a prerecorded version bc up until that point WH had never sang the anthem for them so they insisted to make sure their chosen artist would be able to sing on show night.

Whitney was a musical genius. The point . The blank. The Period. . I am old. I was just 11 when her first album came out. I first noticed her when The Greatest Love Of All Video was played over and over on MTV. Then after that she became a staple performing at awards shows. Nobody since have given live vocals the way she did
She is on the high table with nobody except for Aretha and another I don't remember her name sitting with her. Everyone else is below the table

Her superbowl performance is the greatest one of all time of the anthem. Still untouched to this day 2021! Gives me chills still.
I actually prefer this version over the superbowl performance - that being said - whenever I hear her sing this song I'm just blown away! She's the only reason I know the lyrics as I've heard her singing it "a million times"
Same even tho I love the Superbowl version her voice created a fucking echo an echo!!
I also think it's funny when people compare her to other artist Whitney is the only singer I've seen who is playing with her voice in a non serious way belting out impossible notes. Effortless, every other singer is consentrating when they sing whitney just had fun and loved to sing. The only other singer I've seen do this is pattie LaBelle and Natalie Cole.

This was an amazing performance and I remember it well!! I have loved Whitney Houston since 1984 when i first heard her magnificent voice on the radio. She was truly America's golden girl and sweetheart in 1991!! It pisses me off that after all she did and meant to this country and the world that people 10 years later were so cruel and made her a laughing stock with parodies on comedy shows and stand comedy routines - when she was clearly in trouble and needed help. I wish the media had been kinder to her too - maybe she would still be here.
Thanks so much for reacting to this perrformance! It isn't as well known. There were so many nuanced elements to her vocals and choices. Just beautiful... It is filled passion and Whitney stylazation under control. smh. Whitney had a lane all her own.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE-- Could you react to H.E.R.'s superbowl performance. For me, it was phenomenal! But, aside from that, her song choices, chord changes, and vision for the song, was stunning. It was so uniquely hers that you get the feeling she could have written the song herself. She stayed true to the song, especially in the beginning, but took the song into a lane of its own I can almost see this on a CD. She is such a gifted artist in so many ways. i really only listen to gospel/worship and praise now...except for reaction videos on songs that are uplifting or new talent on shows. I rarely subscrie to channels. But, i did because you keep it clean and your reactions are so thorough, passionate, intersting, and knowledgeable.. Thank you
I absolutely love this version as well as the super bowl performance! She took it to another level!! I am so sick of people yelping about it was prerecorded at the super bowl and it was a playback and she did not sing it live. Well she recorded it live and they played it while she still sung it! But this live performance is in everyone's face who keep going on about what she did not sing live!! Well, this is live!! All you naysayers who keep going on about what was recorded, she proved (not that she had to or needed to for me) but she said, here... naysayers take this!!!! I just love it! As a musician and I sing is that you have to start low on this song. If you start too high this song will beat the crap out of you towards the end. Most savvy musicians/singers know to start this song low in their range unless you have 5 to seven octaves like a Whitney or Mariah.

Just imagine after a performance like this, then she had to merge in life and pretend like she is normal. Can you imagine how tough that is to transition from "Super-Human." to Normal. It probably took hours for her to come down. We have no clue what that woman went through.
