She closed the show they saved the best for last if I remember correctly because I watched this when it was airing live. And opening an award show is usually for beginning acts or new artists, she is usually in the middle or at the end.
Id like to share something about this video! I was in the audience that night, at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. Although this is beyond an amazing performance, it does not begin to capture the feeling of being in the audience that night. Her voice radiated from the stage to the back of the 2nd level cheap seats and into every crevice of the room! This was Dick Clarks, American Music Awards and there were many, many celebrities in the audience including her mother and husband Bobby Brown seated in the front row, holding there daughter, 2 yr old Bobbi Christina. By the climax of Im Tellin You, everyone and I mean everyone was on there feet..no fancy fireworks display, no 6 piece back up dancers, just the live band, and that voice. If youve ever been to a southern church on sunday when the choir was especially on fire, you might have a small indication of what this was like. At one point, Bobby was so moved he had to hand over holding Bobbi Chris to her Grandmother. One of my most cherished memories, this performance.
Whenever Whitney ends a song, it brings me so much sorrow. She is saying farewell, and still to this day, I have not completely accepted that she is gone. Rest In Peace Whitney, and let your voice run free.
@@andresuston7692 em no? I've said what she believed in. She believed in Jesus Christ, our savior. So she wouldn't have been satisfied with the phrase "mother nature".
This is my favorite Whitney Houston performance of all time. I’ve watched it at least 30 times. One of the greatest vocal performances of all time. Whitney was on fire. So happy to watch you react to it.
I love her too, and I get so pissed off at people for calling her life a waste, or shame on her for being sick and so on. All I have to say to that is just because you have such heavenly gifts doesn't mean you are not human and fragile like anyone else. People forget how lucky we are she shared this gift with us. She is part of the soundtrack of our lives. The lifestyle of a performer isn't an easy one, and we have no business judging her. She gave of herself, and we benefitted from that beautiful God-given talent and hard work. She still brings me to tears.xoxoxoxox

In her new biopic it explains he wanted to challenge Whitney and chose 3 of the most difficult songs to sing and said she should open the show with a medley of them to truly showcase her insane talent
The audience was on their feet for almost the entire performance as they should have been. Whitney was the greatest. She could emote a song like no other. I miss her so much. This was phenomenal, easily in my top 10 favorite live performances.
I've been waiting for someone to react to this! In my book, this is her all-time best single performance. NOONE could do this! 10+ minutes of just straight, flat-footed good sanging!!! But I also have to say that the orchestra/band was on fire as well. And the camera production... WOW! They captured this moment PERFECTLY!!! That tight side shot of her leading up to the climax of I Have Nothing where her eyes are closed... then she dramatically opens them and there's this fierce determination in her eyes as she builds vocally, all while connecting with the person in the back of the room. It's like it's from a movie where the shots were choreographed, but this was a live show. It's like there was just this perfect synergy in that room between Whitney, the orchestra, the crowd, and the production team. Perfection is the only way to describe it.
So true! She is truly in a class all by herself! She didn't miss a beat at all and commanded this performance and audience!!! Her powerful voice completely filled that entire place, I'm sure that building was shaken with her voice!!!
I am Brazilian and Whitney changed my life in the mid 90's, I am so grateful to have her as an idol until today, where I do not fear such good music, as Whitney offered to us !! I miss her so much but what comforts me is her work that has been immortalized in my Heart !!

I love this... he couldn’t wait to react in the first few seconds
My favorite Whitney song is "I will always love you", the next one is perhaps "Greatest Love of All", but this was great. Thanks.
Wow! What a performance.!! The way she commands the stage! And that dress! Wow! At 8:55 , look at the aisle seat up front left of red carpet and you can see Bobby , dressed in all white, holding their daughter , baby at the time. Many of her family members were their cheering her on.
I wish I could sing like her she is was so amazing always putting her heart into her songs. She gives me chills and inspires me. I wish I could've seen her perform.
