What a great / generous and kind person. Thank you Paul. Wish I had the Benjamin’s to buy this guitar and help Jason Becker, a legend that continues To inspire whether your a guitar player or not
That little song at the end really hits the sweet spot. Really great cause. And really appreciating Herman Li for what he does and the person he is. New fan here.
It's incredible. Paul is always such a whirlwind of a guy, he loves what he does for sure. Herman I'd love to see you do some jams and interview w/ Reb Beach too... Another incredible shredder from a Pittsburg suburb in Pennsylvania.
Ibby PGM was the one which started my liking of reverse headstock superstrat. Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on how I view my story, my father didn't know about ibby and bought me a strat. I kept my dream of owning reverse headstock guitar and eventually I forgot about it . One day I saw a guitarist using reverse headstock guitar on youtube. I immediately remembered my dream guitar. That guitarist was Kirk Hammett. Long story short, I bought ESP M-II instead of PGM.

I really want the one paul Gilbert pedal by jhs with the shoe on it lol. I have a hardtail Ibanez with DiMarzio pickups already and I have a charvel pro San dimas with a recessed floyd rose. I like when Eddie van Halen went to see Jason Becker and was like wow u used a recessed bridge lol evh just melted that fretboard at Jason's house I'm sure jason was loving it but I'm sure it warmed Eddie's heart as well. Other than paul Gilbert a guy I would of loved to take lessons from would of been Jason Becker. He is such a cool person who was one of the best to ever do it and it is amazing that he still writes Amazing song but I can only imagine the greatness he would of played if not for als... because I know he would come up with some cool riff or a crazy technique or something if he was actually playing. I'm sure it would have a different effect in his own hands. Besides he could of layed down so much more compositions because the complex stuff he does has to be a mfer to write with only his eyes. Even if he wrote a 3 chord country song that way itd still be a miracle. I wish I wasn't so poor and hurting for money right now. If u never seen Jason Becker play go water him play yngwie malmsteen black star at Jason's high school when he was a teenager...there was no ceiling on his potential.

@@yukari1897 sometimes it's good to take a break from playing and then magically, when you pick it up again you play like a god. I know it because it worked for me
Jazz is all about improve. So there's a good place to start. Check out some good jazz guitar players like Joe Pass. Other than that, as for just playing, practice over all types of progression at a variety of tempos. What I typically do is begin improvising by playing over a progression rather slowly. The point is to find the obvious chord tones, meaning the notes of the arpeggios of the diatonic chords. Then I'll start adding in other notes like maybe then 7th an 9th. Just doing that at slow speeds allows you to develop a real awareness of what the music you're soloing over is doing. An in itself makes more melodic playing that goes with the music. After that, then I focus on playing more complicated licks and patterns. That's where you add in notes that are often referred to as "passing tones". A great basic example of what I'd call a passing tone is the flat 5. AKA, the "blue note" or simply a minor pentatonic scale with a flat 5. It's just a note that you don't generally stay on long, hence "passing tone". Another great way to come up with new phrases is something Paul recommends often. Think about it rhythmically first. Then come up with phrases that follow that rhythmic structure. Lastely, remember to utilize all kinds of articulation. Bends, slides, vibrato etc. For instance, if there's a note you're going to hold out for any considerable length of time, try sliding into it leading into some vibrato. Or even bend into it gradually maybe from a lower note leading to some vibrato. Use any trick in your arsenal. I know I went on a bit of a rant but that's how I go about improvising. Many well versed players would likely agree that's all good information. However, I will add that when soloing over more riff style songs, it's a little different than soloing over chord progressions. Generally similar to what I said, but often less melodic. But same concept applies. There's going to be notes that you don't want to bring much attention to. Then there will be notes that are fine. Alot of typical riffs have something like a pedal tone. Often the root which is why you end up with some less melodic soloing. Anyway, I know I'm not Paul or Herman, but I hope something I said helps you. An if you have any questions feel free to ask. I used to teach guitar just for the record. Lol. 😜
