Hi, Japanese!!! I am a big fan and Paul's wife Emi is Japanese so I thought she might enjoy my friends Katsu's food. He is a professional chief and made both modern and traditional dishes for us for lunch. YEA! All the best, Larry
Paul has been one of my main influences for pretty much all of my 34/35 year guitar playing years. He still amazes me to this day und seems like such a genuine person. He is also the reason for my love of Dimarzio pickups, especially the Tone Zone/PAF Pro combo! The Fireman looks so amazing but I've never had the opportunity to play or even see a real one!
Fireman is one of the most incredible guitars for the price out there! They play and sound amazing. Got a used one for cheap on Reverb and absolutely love it
@walshy0001 Hi, No, this was taped at Soul Studio in LA. Since it had a full kitchen, I thought it would be fun to shoot part of the video during our lunch break. All the best, Larry DiMarzio
Its really cool that Emi is actually interested/involved in the conversation! A lot of artist's wives' eyes would glaze over at the mere mention of guitar specs, and excuse themselves to go do almost anything else... Shes also a rad keyboard player and all around nice lady :P I really want Ibanez to do a special release of the Kikusui Junmai Ginjo Iceman!!
Well there aren’t many players who can do what Paul does, so he’s a bit unique in that regard. He also has some very authentic love and enthusiasm for the instrument, which commands attention pretty well
I met Paul and Emi Gilbert few months ago with the VIP ticket and they were (and are) truly super kind and cool. Mr. DiMarzio is absolutely the same by the fact I've just realized he replies personally here about his products and videos: thanks a lot for sharing and of course for the FastTrack2, AirNorton, ToneZone and the best and coolest guitar straps ever :)
+LarryDiMarzio I am *SO* glad to have found this vid. For the longest time, I saw thumbnails down the right side of YT and, because I used to have a Rickenbacker bass copy, didn't realize what Paul had done. Just recently I clicked on one of them and was absolutely floored by his ingenuity. Although I am a lifelong fan of the Gibson reverse Firebird and Thunderbird, the non-reverse and the anniversary re-issue leave me cold... The reverse Iceman (Fireman) is just as gorgeous as its predecessor. It is a pleasant surprise to see that there was no legal "lock" (unless there were negotiations I'm not privy to) blocking the Fireman from becoming a Paul Gilbert signature guitar.
Steve did use PAF Pros on the first generation JEM, and Paul has also used them. The Pro is still an excellent all-around choice for the neck position, and might be your best choice to try first.
@LarryDiMarzio Thank you very much for taking the time to answer my question! Well they were certainly very convincing clones. My guess is they were trying to imitate your PAF, and PAF pro, which I will be using in my next guitar. Have a very good day ! : )
Didn't mean to be sarcastic, just a fun touch I just spotted. Watched this video several times over the years, I love when Paul's speaking about technical details. Also, love the pickups! Have a Kramer Baretta from 1987 with a DiMarzio PAF. Excellent sound. Keep up the good work.
Hi, Easy part first, the PhaseOne since they led the technology and software. Regarding string vibration, I don't recall ever reading anything about my comment but I observed it years ago when I was a full time guitar player. Namely, don't bring the neck pickup on a Strat too close to the string or it begins to sound strange. A simple experiment would be, raise the neck pickup up as high as it can go (without hitting the string) and then make it as low as possible. All the best, Larry DiMarzio
Ibanez Japan did release for a limited time a Cherry Mahogany Fireman when the Fireman was first released. This model was called the FRM2. They also sell the production model in mustard yellow with a white pickguard and black pups (similar to Paul's most recent Fireman).
Paul Gilbert is the person who showed me that DiMarzio pickups are so amazing. Seriously, if you want excellent pickups, get DiMarzios. I trust that the Fireman is no less amazing.
What a cool guitar !!! Xmas is gone, but I want this guitar in my backyard :-)) Thank you so much Paul, Ibanez, and DiMarzio for your fantastic work. I'm sure this is a terrific instrument ! You rock !!!
Larry, I think I speak for all the DiMarzio fans when I say that we appreciate that you take the time to answer our questions! That said...I have a question regarding Chris Broderick's pick ups on his Jackson that I own. What are the pickups designed after and are their outputs? Thanks!
I think you might like an F-spaced D Activator bridge model. It has lower DC resistance than an INF4, but resistance is not an accurate way to judge output because it doesn't account for magnet strength or wire gauge, among other things.
paul gilbert is the best guitarist ever, i hope to see him at the guitar institue of technology.......... just if i can go there larry dimarzio youre also awesome
Not a fan of the Fireman (or the iceman for that matter...) but PG will always be one of my all time favorite guitarists. He plays special. Not like all the robots we have today. You hear Paul play and you know it's him.
Hi Gary, Thanks for using DiMarzio. I don't know the picture of the t-shirt/girl that you are talking about? If you can find it let me know. Love to help. Larry DiMarzio
just sat and listened to paul gilbert speak about guitars..... HEAVEN!!!!!!!!! oh, anyknow know if the fireman will be put into production??!?!?!?! I WANT ONE!
@Orbsee Yes, but keep in mind that no 2 guitars perform identically regardless of wood type, and it is impossible to be certain in advance how any pickup will perform in a specific guitar.
Ibanez guitars actually have a ultra thin necks and flat wide fingerboard for great for shredding I can tell. Perhaps, I think that’s why Paul really loves these guitars.
@zachsara7 This is not a simple question. The Evo is taller than the Peavey pickup, and there may not be enough space to install it without making the pickup cavity deeper. Allowing the pickup to be height-adjustable is possible, but it would also require modifying the guitar, and you would certainly have to consult a qualified guitar tech if you want to do this.
@LarryDiMarzio Thanks for the Information (: by the way, I ordered the Evo 2 pickup for my bridge, the HS-2 for the single, and an Air Norton for the neck all last night. It's gonna sound amazing!
@granskater The pickups in the video have our standard white covers. any of our dealers can order our pickups with this color. The best way to order our pickups in Argentina is to contact our distributor, Fusion. You can get their email address and phone number on the DiMarzio website.
@PGBUCKETHEAD Paul has been using relatively low-output pickups most recently. A standard-spaced Air Classic neck model and an F-spaced Air Classic bridge model should be good choices.
hell yes it would. the tonezone and PAF PRO would work great in a 350ex. though, a HS-2 is a tad too strong for my taste. either way if u like the pickups i say put em in and rock on. tell me if it works out.
@turtlehead12699 Hi, I am not sure about the neck thinner neck dimensions. I think the planned release from Ibanez is late summer. Hope that helps, Larry DiMarzio
OMFG I got a reply from Larry himself!!! I only ask because I kept looking at the food and the plates. It looked so and vegetarian. Thanks for the reply, love your products.
Hello Mr. DiMarzio, I have a question I was hoping you might answer. I had an Ibanez Studio model back in the day, it was the flat top, unbound model with what appered to be your pickups in it, cream bobbins without covers. Did you make the pickups for that guitar, and if so what models were they? I was impressed with the balanced sound and quietness of them, and am still missing it for those reasons mostly. The guitar itself, I wore out, and had to sell.
Just wanted to say it's quite cool to actually be able to talk to you Mr. DiMarzio. I'm looking for a passive pickup that will be able to really bring out pinch harmonics when tuned to drop D or C# on the lower strings/lower frets (Zakk Wylde) With enough clarity to be able to pull off a Dimebag Darrell esqe rhythm tone and a bright lead tone. Something High-Output in the 16K range. This is going in the bridge of a Basswood RG with INF4 in the bridge now (15.2K I believe). What can you suggest?
I have a question regarding your pickups. I'm building a guitar to my specs but I have trouble picking a humbucker for the bridge pickup. So far I have Injector in the neck and area67 in the middle position. I like the sound of the injector bridge pickup but i would really prefer the humbucker. So the question is which one would you suggest to match with the Injector/area67?
@PGBUCKETHEAD Pickup choice is much more a matter of personal taste than about specific woods. The Tone Zone and and Air Norton sound much different than Air Classics. They will perform well in mahogany if this is the sound you are looking for.
It isn't possible to suggest a pickup without a description of the sound you are looking for. Please email this description to tech@dimarzio.com and also include the specs for the guitar, so we can offer a useful recommendation.
@LarryDiMarzio Mr. DiMarzio, how would you describe the construction of your Area pickups? I'm given to understand they're sort of a half-breed between singles and humbuckers. Would you care to elaborate?
Hey Mr.Dimarzio.I have an ibanez rg350dx and im thinking in changing the pickups(the 3 pickups).Which pickups should i buy,i like all kind of guitarists from Paul gilbert, steve vai,joe satriani to Slash,bb king, eric clapton, etc?Excuse me for my bad english.
Does Pauls guitars have a poly finish or nitro? Always wondered about famous people guitars considering most aren't built by the same run of the mill assembly line types. More like ghost luthiers building specific models for specific players.
Hey Mr DiMarzio, is the tone zone humbucker in the bridge position a high output pickup? Is it suitable for lead soloing and shred when combined with an evolution in the neck?
hi mr larry, i have a question about a dimarzio superdistortion bridge and evo bridge, which pickup is more good for soloing, shred and which pickup is have a bigger output ?
hello mr dimarzio i have a question i have a 3 humbucker Mahogany guitar (its a custom made fireman which is why im asking here) for the bridge and neck im getting the air classic with gold covers can you recomend a pickup for the midle postion im thinking another air classic. for the record i use a marshall with a boss me-70
This is a great video 'cause it reminds me so much of what I did and how I felt when I built my first 3 custom guitars. I've got 7 custom guitars in my head that I'm trying to get into my hands and 6 of them have nothing but DiMarzio pickups. (One is going to have Fender Custom Shop 1969 pickups. 6 out of 7 ain't bad though, right?) 3 down, 4 to go. DiMarzio = \m/
Mr DiMarzio, i have standard factory pickups and my neck pick up has broke so i want to get a whole new set. Which ones do you recommend for a paul gilbert/buckethead like tone? and if i buy them will they come with screws and springs (my friend lost them) thank you
@LarryDiMarzio oh i see....because i really want the sound of the tone zone and air norton....and because the sound of the mahogany body of my guitar is too bright already...thats why i'm thinking if the tonezone will do just fine....?
hye larry. I'm thinking of buying Schecter omen 8 and buy dimarzio d-activator 8 pickup. The omen 8 have basswood body. Are D-activator 8 suit basswood body guitar? Thanks in advance
that black ibanez destroyer at the beginning..my god...10/10

Steve did use PAF Pros on the first generation JEM, and Paul has also used them. The Pro is still an excellent all-around choice for the neck position, and might be your best choice to try first.
Hi,
It is actually lunch and we shot the video during the break at the photo shoot.
All the best,

@LarryDiMarzio Thank you very much for taking the time to answer my question!

Paul is a real cool guy. it looks like he has no ego, just a pure love for the instrument.
I think Paul Gilbert needs to be endorsed by Photoshop as well... Fireman won't be possible without the help of Photoshop...
Ibanez Japan did release for a limited time a Cherry Mahogany Fireman when the Fireman was first released. This model was called the FRM2. They also sell the production model in mustard yellow with a white pickguard and black pups (similar to Paul's most recent Fireman).

Paul is great guy and fucking great guitar killer!!!!!!!!!!!
@HDWMusic
Yes to both questions. The TZ isn't the loudest model we make, but it definitely qualifies as a high output pickup.
What a cool guitar !!!
Xmas is gone, but I want this guitar in my backyard :-))
Thank you so much Paul, Ibanez, and DiMarzio for your fantastic work. I'm sure this is a terrific instrument ! You rock !!!
Larry,

The oracle and the first lady. So cool.
Larry, you are easily one of the coolest people on the planet. Standing right next to PG of course :) THANKYOU!!!!!!!
I think you might like an F-spaced D Activator bridge model. It has lower DC resistance than an INF4, but resistance is not an accurate way to judge output because it doesn't account for magnet strength or wire gauge, among other things.
@joedell71 Hi, Yes, that is Paul's wife. She is also the keyboard player in his band.
All the best,
Larry DiMarzio
The fireman with red pickguard is a killing piece!! And so the black "explorer"!!!
I want one!!!
Hi,
That is Jordan Colley (artist relations and promotions) from Ibanez in LA.
All the best,
Larry DiMarzio
I just saw on the other vid's description, my bad there! Thanks a lot! All the best to you too.
paul gilbert is the best guitarist ever, i hope to see him at the guitar institue of technology..........
just if i can go there
larry dimarzio youre also awesome
Dimarzio pick up's are the best in the world, and that was fantastic looking food! compliments to the chef Larry!
I like very much Paul Gilbert and his Ibanez guitars

Yes, Dimarzio Evolutions are amazing pickups for tone and sustain.
@Orbsee
Yes, but keep in mind that no 2 guitars perform identically regardless of wood type, and it is impossible to be certain in advance how any pickup will perform in a specific guitar.
Paul is a cool guy and great player. Thanks for this video.
wow, I never expected an answer from the man himself!
thank you:D
I would totally bug PG for lessons if I met him.
Uli and Marino...Paul always gives it up to the gods.
@Alonzito23 Hi, Yes, it should sound great. Thanks for thinking of DiMarzio.

@DystopianEmpire01
Sorry, but I don't think the pickups were ours. They were most likely made in Japan.
I was there!! The Uli Jon show. :D
@granskater
The pickups in the video have our standard white covers. any of our dealers can order our pickups with this color. The best way to order our pickups in Argentina is to contact our distributor, Fusion. You can get their email address and phone number on the DiMarzio website.
Bultaco Saturno . I probably spelt that wrong, but it is off Paul Gilberts solo album, "Silence followed by a deafening roar"
The intro song is a song of Paul's called "Bultaco Saturno"
Hi,
Yes, I do play.
Best regards,
Larry DiMarzio
Great Vid, thanks Larry.

Wonderful guitar, is the picture that Paul shows at the end his Photoshop image?
it's already stated as PG's latest
signature guitar
@alapunk13 Yes, the lovely and talented (she also plays keyboards), Emi Gilbert.
Hope that helps,
Larry DiMarzio
Hi,
It was actually lunch.
All the best,
Larry Dimarzio
@magicthunder666 Yes.
All the best,

paul is so cool because he acts like he's normal and not all "rockstar" like other musicians do.

@walshy0001 Thanks, I hope that you like them.

Correct .... Correct. Just like focusing a camera. There is a place where it works best.

Sorry, but I don't know. Checking in with the Ibanez website is the best way to see their newest releases.
What are you guys eating? that looks really good!
hey larry...put in your pickup the diMarzio logooo!!!!
W the evolution!!XD loll
Hey Mr DiMarzio, is the tone zone humbucker in the bridge position a high output pickup? Is it suitable for lead soloing and shred when combined with an evolution in the neck?
hi mr larry, i have a question about a dimarzio superdistortion bridge and evo bridge, which pickup is more good for soloing, shred and which pickup is have a bigger output ?
@TeleGuy93
An Area T neck pickup should be good if you have an amp with a fair amount of gain.
Hi,
Japanese food from Nobu restaurant in LA.
All the best,
Larry
hello mr dimarzio i have a question i have a 3 humbucker Mahogany guitar (its a custom made fireman which is why im asking here) for the bridge and neck im getting the air classic with gold covers can you recomend a pickup for the midle postion im thinking another air classic. for the record i use a marshall with a boss me-70

DiMarzio = \m/
I think I might build this guitar and but my own personal artwork on the body
Does Ibanez have any plans in releasing that fireman without the pickguard and two humbuckers like in the beginning of this video?
Lol at the production value of 'the meal' .. haha .. great stuff.
Mr. Dimarzio,
Do you happen to know what model of Ibanez that hollow body is that Paul plays?
Thanks
I love the song at the begining.
If anyone knows what song that is please reply to me ASAP!!!
Mr DiMarzio, i have standard factory pickups and my neck pick up has broke so i want to get a whole new set. Which ones do you recommend for a paul gilbert/buckethead like tone? and if i buy them will they come with screws and springs (my friend lost them) thank you
Mr. Dimarzio, may i know what pickups is best for my Ibanez RG321MH fixed bridge, solid body mahogany....i want to sound like paul gilbert,,,,thanks
Hi,
Yes, Mrs. Emi Gilbert.
REgards,
Larry DiMarzio
hey i would like to know is the neck for these guitars thinner than normal guitar, because i like thin necks
@LarryDiMarzio oh i see....so the air classic is good for mahogany? what about the Tonezone and air norton combo??
LOL! He never uses air nortons, where did you ever get that piece of info?
@LarryDiMarzio oh i see....because i really want the sound of the tone zone and air norton....and because the sound of the mahogany body of my guitar is too bright already...thats why i'm thinking if the tonezone will do just fine....?
hye larry. I'm thinking of buying Schecter omen 8 and buy dimarzio d-activator 8 pickup. The omen 8 have basswood body. Are D-activator 8 suit basswood body guitar? Thanks in advance
what would you be buying?
Hi Larry. Im just wondering, what pickups are those in the semi hollow guitar of Paul?
