I'm just unable to pour anything nice.... I have a few things i'll integrate from this video but might come back to your channel. Latte Art is not something I want to actively practice, but everytime im pouring a shot of espresso and doing a milk drink, why not try, at some point i'll get it right. I think I was doing a little of all the mistakes in this video, which results in a very poor pour.
I was really liking this video until she called me a "dirty scumbag". Now I love it. Seriously, this is the best instructional video on the subject I've encountered. Not just the tips themselves, but the way they are communicated and the use of side-by-side video.
It’s funny how you’re so good at your craft that you struggle to make your pours look bad. Great tips as always. Keep them coming and Happy New Year from a fellow creator who’s learnt a lot from your channel!
So much thanks! I think learning any skills is simply narrowing the potential threshold of "failures" over time. At a certain point it becomes more like you said, a struggle. Thank you for following along! I am for sure a follower of yours as well.
WOW. One video made my latte art improve immensely. My "great" is still half of what your "bad" is , but still, I am actually making hearts and not blobs now.
Thank you so much Emilee, you just took my latte art skills to a new level! As a home barista, I can impress friends and family with my latte art. When watching videos of a professional doing latte art, I always noticed that their milk looks a bit runnier. I never knew why until you told me I wasn't swirling the milk enough. I was whirling, but you were right, I just wasn't doing that vigorously enough. Now my milk and latte art is one level up near perfection!
@@EmileeBryant I didn't feel attacked per se, more exposed as the latte art challenged person that I am. BTW, fantastic vid Emilee. Lots of issues for me to address, specifically getting rid of the "dome of foam" by swirling "just before, I'm about to pour". Look, you're not just a latte art champion, you're a word artist too!!
I can't wait to go to work tomorrow and try the less integration thing! That, and a different milk steaming technique... I accidentally made some REALLY good, clean latte art a few weeks ago on one particular latte and I'm not entirely sure how I did it and it has been haunting me haha
Pegged it. Again. I've been wondering for a while now, "How much integration is the right amount? Maybe I'm doing too much. I wish I knew..." Only making a latte every other day or so makes it hard to test (I need to invite a bunch of friends over for lattes and then I can run some controlled experiments). Thanks for doing the "lab work" for us! Another superb tutorial.
New barista here!! 🎉 I have watched maaaaaany a latte art tutorial, and yours is by far the easiest for me to understand! Thanks for breaking down “rippling”. Using the visual example of water just made sooo much sense! Also thanks for the side by side comparison of too much integration vs too little integration of milk before starting the art 🤯 can’t wait to practice!!! Thanks a million!
Probably the best explained video I've seen so far and one thing most videos fails with is to not explain what NOT to do, instead of just saying what we should be doing because I'd guess that most of us that fails are not even conscious that they do something everytime that they should never do but no one told them first so they will ever succeed.
Trust me ,the way you explain and showing reason behind why we couldn't not able get there , that's amazing,I swear you must be watch if you want to do better
This was so helpful - thanks! I watched the video before bed, woke up this morning, and applied it to my first cappuccino, and it was a step change improvement. The two tips I focused on were swirling and integrating. I started my pour much sooner than usual (less milk to start) and was immediately rewarded with clear ripple lines and a nice, full distribution that continued to the edge of the cup as it wrapped around. I actually kinda panicked because I wasn't expecting it to go that well and didn't really have a plan for where to go with it.
I've been watching hundreds of coffee content videos for over a year now and dozens upon dozens of latte art videos. Your way of thinking, expressing and demonstrating things (in this video) are the best I've seen. Subbed, looking forward to watching more.
Not many youtubers put that much care in a video, with all the graphics, the nice shots, the witty and dark comments 😅 Seriously some nice explanation there. Thanks to you and Lance, I am finally pouring some nice cups.
Thannk you SO MUCH for making this!!!! I have been watching people like Lance Hedrick, Morgan Eckroth, and James Hoffman for YEARS, and I only already knew about milk swirling and cup tilting. It's currently 11:45 p.m. but I cannot wait to try these tips out and I already know they'll help so much!
What a great video. I was the "you" you were talking to at the start. Also, the funniest sign off line I've ever heard on a video. I'll be sure to repeat it to my customers after every impeccably designed coffee! Subscribed!
UA-cam has figured out I have a new espresso machine now, and your video was the first latte art vid to pop onto my feed. After ~50 previous failed attempts faking my way through it, this morning after your vid I made my first foam squiggles. Cheers!
I'm not yet where I want to be, for six months I've been making varying degrees of white blobs but your tips made a huge difference from the first time I adopted them. Thank you so much.
Seeing such clear comparisons is really helpful, I really appreciate that extra thought and care - especially the clear glass demos for extra clarity (pun intended). "swirl more or you'll get a turd" describes my main problem so so well :-)
Beautiful video! Before finding this great tutorial, this morning I made 2 lattes and ended up with 2 foam turds 😂. At least I’m understanding a bit more on how the foaming process works! Will continue practicing. I’ll come back with a progress report after watching this. Thanks, Emilee! ❤
I’ve never done this but interested in learning. I only have a moka pot, aeropress and V60. Hoping my new moka pot will yield good shots after practice. It is my newest method. Thanks for sharing
Watching this with my 8yo son. We can't wait till the morning to get started. He wanted to practice and throw the coffee out (it's 7.30pm here) 😂 great video, thank you.
I feel like I am going to have to watch this again and again- it is FULL of so much good info....getting ready to watch again and take some notes😋📖🖊☕💖 Thank you!!!!
Wow, thank you! I made it in my coffe shop with the french press mode, and the emulsify of the milk its more difficult than yours. So its too good to know this kind of tips. Thxs a lot for this video! Greetings from Patagonia, Argentina.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and skills with latte art. I found this video to be one of the best on UA-cam for causes of latte art problems. I am going to integrate them into my coffee routine tomorrow morning. Cheers!
Lol I try to practice a long time (a few years) and rarely I do achieve as good results as in your "bad art" examples 😅 Especially rippling does not work at all... We will see in the future how this will improve. The theory is simple, but good milk preparation is crucial as well as hand movements.
This is the video I didn't know I needed. Thank you for going into detail with all these techniques. I know exactly what I'm doing wrong in my pours! Can't wait till morning now!
Total noob here. Made 8 lattearts so far. THIS video feels like cheating and getting all the answers in the first class of a five year education. Latteart doping. And I am loving it. Can’t thank you enough. Amazing quality and value. Gotta go. Need to practice. 😊
Awww thanks. It is like cheating haha.Follow up if you see improvement! Remember even though someone shows you how to play the guitar, doesn’t mean you’ll be performing a concert buuuuut if I’m doing my job well, I will hopefully lesson the time it takes for you to be successful at the art! At least faster than I learned hopefully:)
@@EmileeBryant You are spot on. I will not be performing a concert any time soon :-) But I am rapidly seeing improvements. Did my first 'kind-of-heart' yesterday. Nice contrast, good texture and straight as a line pull through. Soooo proud. But a looong way to go. Have done a total of 14 espressos now. Taking that amount into consideration I feel I am way ahead of any normal learning curve. All thanks to you. So again, massiv thx. Gotta go, need to practice
I'm a baby barista, just passed my café's certification for working on bar but I still have a lot of issues with latte art even after all the lattes I've made. I'm gonna practice these tomorrow to make my latte art even better for our guests!
@@Nickporter17 yes actually! The one that I found that helped the most was having too much liquid in the pitcher! So when practicing, I find I get better texture milk in a smaller pitcher but then I transfer it to a larger one for the latte art (edit: exactly like she says but I forgot about that until rewatching the video lol)
I really love the flow of your pours, there is a special raw beauty in them! - I really need to work on lowering down my integration, I think it's holding me down even after years of pouring;) - regarding the swirling: I too have realized the more you swirl the better. But in my own attemps I found that once I finished steaming I like to swirl, transfer all of the milk/foam to another pitcher, swirl again and then transfer them back to my pouring pitcher and swirl again. In my perception, I get the least least amount of seperation this way and can maintain a very consistent density of microfoam throughout the whole pour. For me it's especially important, since my machine is a crappy modded Gaggia Evo, the first machine I started my coffee journey with and the stream pressure is not stable, so I basically have to a similar thing to oldschool temperature surfing to get to steam with a consistent pressure and also the steam being not too wet....;) Hope you can rate my free pours one day!

Agreed. The mistakes results are already impressive for me but love the video explanations and side by side views. Amazing content !!
Lol I was just about to say that. All my latte art looks like is modern art
