- An off-duty airline pilot riding in an extra cockpit seat on a Horizon Air flight said "I'm not OK" just before trying to cut the engines midflight and later told police he had recently taken psychedelic mushrooms as his mental health worsened, according to charging documents made public Tuesday. bit.ly/3tMUGrt

Psychedelic mushrooms really healed me years back. Totally got rid of depression, anxiety and illicit pill addiction.
Trying to dispose of depression. I’ve been searching, but I can’t find anywhere to source
dr.perryshrooms is your guy. Got all kinds of psychedelics stuff Guided me through my first ever experience
Okay um, Instgram?
Yeah, dr.perryshrooms. Psychedelics should only be used with great care and respect
hm. Can dr.perryshrooms dispatch to me in LA?
The man is obviously at a personal "rock bottom" and tried to make others feel the same.
It's all just sad.
@aw8079 And I was calling the guy a rock-head. You gave the more levelheaded take.
Lots of excuses for trying to kill a plane full of people.
I agree he even blamed it on mushrooms ,he never took accountability of his own actions digusting!
Oh but he's so sorry and so sad cause he lost his friend and he never took mushrooms before whoops!
@@user-qc6gu3cq8qIf he flipped out he might not have known what he was doing, or lost control. Sounds like he had some sort of mental breakdown. It can happen.
@@user-oy2ht7us1hCan we go 5 mins without making everything political?
They can be excuses and factors at the same time or independently.
It's all bulshit I don't care how long you've been awake or what kind of drugs you take it doesn't give you the right to almost kill people so he needs to go to prison. End of story
But first… the news must humanize him.
Well I'm old and ingested more government prescriptions in my life than 1 doctor probably rights in a year!! And experience illegal street drugs!🤔And?? Just saying people..keeping real...People generally are aware that you can't jump out a window and fly !!! Anyway!!
But what if he lost his mind?
Thank god it requires intelligence to be a judge otherwise people like you would be in charge of sentencing
you absolutely DO NOT do this when on shrooms. Absolute bullshit excuse
He said he just lost his friend n did shrooms 48 hrs ago. That means he was sharing that he was integrating a lot not necessarily "this is my ecxuse". It might be a infantile call for help.
What a psycho.. and thank the hero pilots that stopped dude from crashing the plane. Stop with psychedelic excuses, we all know that's BS.
Seriously
🎯🤣
No worries they landed in Portland so he's gonna be free in a couple of days 🤣🤣🤣
Absolutely agree. Drugs don’t turn you into someone else it just makes what’s already in you come out. Also, in 48 hours he wouldn’t have anything in his system.
@@buster9877 Yup exactly
Absolutely frightening! Thankfully the on duty pilots were able to save everyone. It's very scary to think that we trust pilots that may be unknowingly dangerous when we take flights ✈️
The real story here is how the FAA needs to change its archaic mental health policy, but that will never happen.
This
Not with Unions protecting all the crooks and nuts
I'm not clear what is the FAA mental health policy? Whatever it is, would not have made a difference when the guy flipped out.
@@nancychace8619FAA policy is to immediately ground any pilot seeking mental therapy. Other jobs don’t get you fired just for talking to a therapist.
Wasn't he off-duty anyway? I guess it's a weird situation because he was off-duty but clearly other pilots felt comfortable with him in the cockpit
All excuses.

True. Sadly. For a lot of people
No words... absolutely unbelievable.
From pilot to prison. This is why you don’t experiment with drugs folks, ESPECIALLY if you are a pilot, who hasn’t grown up yet!
Just think if he was able to get away with that. Another tragedy because of another crazy person.
But it would have been blamed on Donald Trump or global warming or Israel etc
It would have been labled terrorism.
*_better to have all airlines crew a mandatory 24 hrs drug test prior to the flight_*
you can’t give someone a drug test when they are off duty

Now that is a bad trip.
Used 48 hours ago? Surprising.
The thing is after using those mushrooms you can have flashbacks for up to 3 months after use and you never know when those flash backs will come. I used those mushrooms when I was 15 in high school in the 90's I only used them twice because I didn't like the high but I remember I did have weird flash backs for about a week every two or 3 days I would feel like I was in a movie or a cartoon and that I felt my life was not real and than in 5 to 10 minutes I would snap out of it. Luckily my flash backs only lasted one week but some people do have flash backs for up to 3 months. I even heard of people having flashbacks up to 6 months.
😂 dude lawyer is his doppelgänger 😅
You mean that after he was subdued from almost succeeding in shutting down fuel to the engines, he was allowed to just walk out the cockpit to join the 83 passengers and crew whose lives he almost took!! What was the flight crew thinking or advised to do with him, except next to nothing. The heroic efforts of the flight attendant grabbing his hands off the emergency exit door, probably saved all on board. He said himself, "you need to cuff me. "He has been removed, for now, from flight assignments by the agency; this being an eerie reminder of that fateful flight in the Alps mountains.
Anyone that has experienced shrooms knows this is all Bull. It's just his defense story.
Seems more like an agenda
Apparently you've never had good mushrooms
@@timrupp4219 no shroom trip lasts 48 hours unless you're continually taking them. I've been to hell and back on shrooms and it only lasted 8 hours if that.
Wow this dude just blew his and his families life apart sad he was in such mental anguish and this ended up happening
Why was he allowed in the cockpit if he's off duty?
They usually do that as they are deadheading.
No seat available
They get to ride in the jump sear if no seat is available in the cabin.
Just more American capitalism putting more lives in danger.
This guy was ON HIS WAY to fly a commercial passenger jet!!! Thank GOD they stopped him!!! He needs to NEVER fly again.
Had the nerve to say “I love you” to a person who was NOT on the plane! What about the other 83 people? He tried to take them out but not the one he “loved” 😡
No plea deals!!!
Peace to all the victims. A real lesson in having reverence for psychedelics. I think they’re a wonderful and powerful tool, but without a “chaperone” a novice and a 1/4 of fungus will do that on a maiden voyage. He looks remorseful. Very sad all around.😢❤
48 hrs after, he was integrating by that point. Maybe the mushrooms helped overall from something worse. Who knows. The lack of sleep however.
Admission is the first step towards recovery. I pray he finds the help he needs. The situation was handled very well and there’s literally no negative effects on anyone but him at this point.
The media are desperately trying to make this an issue. It was handled. The man is in custody.
Do you want him to be the pilot of your next flight?
Brid4jeebus..... Shut up
Anyone else wonder wth he was doing up in the cockpit anyway? 🤔

The guy knows better. There's no excuse whatsoever. Anybody that holds down a job that drug tests knows they can't experiment with drugs let alone a pilot that knows all the requirements of the FAA and DOT etc
Man, I fly Alaska airline a lot, first one of their planes lost a door during a flight and now this.
He was not high, he took the mushrooms 48 BEFORE the incident.
It seems like this guy (or his lawyer) is trying to throw psychedelics -- which are a powerful tool for self-discovery when used properly -- under the bus. I feel like the real culprit here (based on what I have read about for years even before this) might be the stigma against getting mental health help within the Airline Pilot community.
Yeah 48 hours prior there’s no chance he was under any residual effects. He was just a loon
I'm glad this guy was banned from flying commercial flights ever again. He pleads NOT guilty? What's he going to blame it on? My guess, "mental health."
Mushrooms being the fall guy for mental health issues
He should not be a pilot.
Mental health is important
That’s weird. I heard mushrooms cure mental problems and are better than years of therapy.
You heard wrong.
Good thing he didn't know the codes for the self-destruct system.
mushrooms lose there effect after 5 hours
The thing is, even if they rehabilitated him, no one would feel comfortable (at least I wouldn't) to fly in his plane ever again. Certain jobs have a higher standard. If you're not mentally well, you shouldn't be a pilot. You become a risk to the many many lives you're carrying up in the air in a metal tube.
The suspect: "No, I haven't taken any medication except for my first dose of shrooms that I took 48 hours ago." 😂😐🙄🤣
If this guy was two shades darker he'd be in Guantanamo.
He might still be......

Fly safe!
I once experimented with mushrooms - chantrelle, crimini, morel, oyster, porcini, portobello, shiitake.
Mm.. chantrelle...
Experiment with lion’s mane. They’re supposed to be very beneficial.
People can die from bad mushrooms. They are not all user friendly.
I somewhat don't think these charges will stick. Many folks will be sympathetic towards a dude like this. They'll give him a plea slap on the wrist.
Not for interfering with a flight crew.
Yeah his twin brother will probably get all charges dropped
Sounds like he truly had a mental breakdown
Pilots overworked n underpaid… add no sleep, deep sadness and shrooms? Oh my.
Thank you Alaska Air flight captain n crew. Well done.
I'm going to break the golden rule and speak on behalf of pilots here. We are not underpaid anymore. 10 years ago? Absolutely. You'd find crews flying for damn near $35k a year. Some pilots qualified for food stamps flying for these smaller regionals. Now the starting pay is $110/hr with a $150k sign on bonus.
The problem is the FAA. If you are going through some things, you will lose your career and have to make a life-altering career change by seeing a psychiatrist. There's no middle ground with the FAA. Self medicate in silence, or lose your job. Those are the options. And so the end result is pilots drink themselves to-death over problems that could be properly medicated or treated. The FAA doesn't let pilots seek treatment for medical issues, and that needs to change.
America corporate approach to the problem - fire, where is the support ?!
FYI the altitude affects the high. So be careful if you're going to take an edible before a plane flight.
No excuse... Life in federal prison for you
I’ve never tried to murder hundreds of people on shrooms
He wasn't on them in the plane. He admitted to using them 48 hours prior to the incident.
Yes, mushrooms have been known to turn many an abuser into mass murderers.
Is that true? Or fake ? Or opinion 😂
@@Lora-G I was being a sarcastic asshole, lol

First of all, don’t use psychedelics for the first time right before your trip. Secondly, don’t use psilocybin experimentally because it makes you see things differently. Thirdly, I feel sorry for him because he didn’t know how to control his use and then blame it on the drugs. He is to blame for his own actions. If you are depressed, seek help.
Pilot said i don't want peace i want problems always.
What does experiencing mushrooms have to do with anything? This is laughable for anyone who knows about psilocybin. They'll do anything but make you want to die and especially hurt others. If he ate mushrooms 48 hours before, he'd have 36 hours of absolute clarity there after. If he ate them by himself not knowing what its like that could kinda suck but probably not. I leave every trip loving life more than ever. Please dont speak negatively about the most natural and peaceful psilocybin. Maybe the fact he was up for 48 hours made him delusional from all the meth. Shame on the media for false reporting. Sounds like a 1960s government propaganda warning ⚠️
and Scott Weiner wanted to legalize it LMAO
It is legal, you can buy them down your street.
Doesnt matter "how close" what a stupid question. He attempted to make it happen, "Attempted Murder".
Lots of reasons and excuses but it doesnt change the fact he tried to and almost did kill a lot of innocent people! No excuse.
I think he already had fantasies of crashing a plane full of people and he attempted to take action that particular day. He is a licensed pilot he knows exactly what could have happened. He planned it, even down to the excuses he’s making.
Just say no....To anyone in the jump seat
I’m not even worried about terrorists anymore. I’m more worried about the people operating the plane. They need to do something about this cause I’ve read too many stories about a pilot killing everyone crashing the plane because they were depressed or feeling s*icidal smh. (Check out the show air disasters 😏)
In the last 50 years you have Germanwings, FedEx and PSA. Not exactly an ongoing pattern to worry about.
Use to fly Alaska a lot, wonder how many time this dude high on shroom flew me 😮scary when we blindly trust one person not knowing wth is going in their minds 😮
Lay off the drugs, bro. And get some mental help.
Watch Mentour Pilots video on this. Much better than news journalists babbling and changing things. No doubt what he did is inexcusable, however, mental health needs to be improved if things like this happen.

Off duty or not he should not have been in the cockpit.
What a blow it. He's ruining it for the rest of us.
How many pilots does it take to fly a plane? …..2-1/8.
Utterly shocking. There are more dangerous pilots out there who do not disclose their mental health issues or drug addictions to their bosses. Seriously, airline executives have a duty; civilian, ethical, legal & federal responsibility to protect all passengers. These Executives MUST NOW perform rigorous & frequent psychological /mental health, alcohol & drug tests (blood & hair follicles) on all pilots, even if it means weekly tests or daily tests before scheduled flight duties. More recently a British Airways pilot snorted cocaine all night before he went on duty for a 10 hr flight packed with unsuspecting passengers. Thankfully a concerned colleague reported this.
I think you're going the opposite way with fixing this. These things happen because the FAA doesn't allow pilots to treat health problems. If a pilot sees a psychiatrist, they're fired. There's never a chance to medicate or treat problems before they snowball into drug or alcohol addiction. I think the answer isn't authoritative daily testing, but rather, allowing pilots who encounter life problems to come forward, get testing, get treatment, and then go back to flying when they're healthy again. Today that's not possible; But hopefully after this it will be.
Can we maybe stop instructing the public on how to shut the engines off
The public isn’t ever going to get into the cockpit during flight without a ton of planning and luck. They’d have to fight through the flight attendants, pilots, and likely other passengers. Anyone who wants to know how to shut down a specific type of plane can just look it up anyway, so the general public being informed really doesn’t matter.
"the public"?! lol who do you think you are?
"The public" cannot enter the flight deck, and this guy was another (off-duty) commercial pilot riding the jumpseat which is a normal and frequent occurrence. As a "public", there are MANY control that I am familiar with, but absolutely could never get to.
Most of the public do not know this. He is qualified on the B737 which he was piloting at SFO.
He's just trying to get a disability pension.
We ALL KNOW WHY he will not be charged. Let him had been from a different country (middle east) or of a dark complexion.

Left all that BS behind me.
Psilocybin heightens your intrusive thoughts, you're not supposed to give in. Maybe he took too much
I think you'll find the accommodations very comfortable in prison. Hope you get some help.
Eighty three counts of attempted murder🙄 This is insanity. He didn’t have a clue about what’s going on.
Every time I fly, which I do frequently, I wonder what mental state the pilot is in? Was he served divorce papers? Did he lose a loved one? Does he have an addiction to drugs? Which are all triggers.
We are at the mercy of the pilot when we fly and anything can trigger their sanity into doing the unthinkable.
Makes me not want to fly but then again I can’t live my life in fear.
Strict requirements, such as frequent mandatory mental evaluations, and drug testing before flying is a must.
Is that Mario or Luigi?

Actually you can't shut off the engines with the fire extinguishers--there is no connection between them and the engine computers. And even if the engines did shut down, they are FAA-certified to restart any time below 20,000 feet (called a windmill start, similar to pushing your car to start).
Twin-engined airplanes are designed to run all day on one engine.
