    I worked as a Mazda certified tech for most of the 2010's. Their Skyactiv tech was interesting when it first came out, but what I loved about the brand the most was how they were constantly making updates and improvements to the formula; it was a complete 180 from the kind of stuff I saw manufacturers like Chrysler doing. The cars were built really solid for being so light-weight and lasted way longer than you'd expect them to. Except for the expensive oil changes and nit-picky wiring, it was all happy customers and easy fixes. Shame nobody ever brought their budget-priced Mazdas back to the dealership after the free service program ran out.

    • @korndawggy1801
      @korndawggy1801 Рік тому

      What's so expensive about the oil changes? Just asking because we're thinking about getting a Mazda. I really liked the test drive in it. Rode nice and handled good too.

    • @SkorpyoTFC
      @SkorpyoTFC Рік тому +1

      @@korndawggy1801 They WERE expensive. Skyactiv was an early adoption of 0w20, and the factory oil had a special additive cocktail. The price tag on 0 weight oil isn't nearly as bad as it used to be.

    • @AceFaceDesigns
      @AceFaceDesigns Рік тому

      As a Mazda tech maybe you can help me with a question. I just bought a 2020 Mazda 3 Hatchback. When I start it there is a clicking sound from under the hood. I was told its the fuel injectors or the pump. That it was normal. Just wanted your opinion. Thanks

    • @SkorpyoTFC
      @SkorpyoTFC Рік тому +1

      @@AceFaceDesigns Could be a lot of things. If it's a constant noise that follows engine RPM, there is a chance the high pressure fuel pump (or its follower) are the problem. That can also point to an issue with oil change/maintenance neglect, which is more detrimental to Skyactiv engines due to the camshafts being lubricated from an overhanging spray rail.
      There are a number of things that can cause noise, and without hearing it directly I can't help you much.

    • @AceFaceDesigns
      @AceFaceDesigns Рік тому +1

      @@SkorpyoTFC Thanks for the reply. I feel like its the pump. The car is in really good condition with only 30k miles. I did test drive another one with about the same milage at the dealership and it had the same clicking sound. I was told that its the high pressure fuel pump and injectors. I will have my mechanic take a look just to be sure. Thanks

    Excellent video Scotty, it reminds me of something my father told me when I was a kid and this helps confirm what he said "They have tried to get away from the piston engine for 100 years and they haven't done it yet". Now that I think about it pistons are all over the place, not just engines, hydraulic jacks, syringes, grease guns, even shaving cream cans and my wife's cosmetics. I think pistons will be around for a long time. P.S.- his first car was a 1941 Ford Super Deluxe, a 1949 Mercury, 1950 Mercury, 1952 Desoto Hemi, 1954 Desoto Hemi, and 1978 Dodge Magnum. Clutches went out in the 90K mile range with the sundowner and RX-7. The repairs were unsatisfactory was the reason I traded them. Otherwise, I absolutely loved them. The Sundowner got 35 mpg no matter how hard I pushed it.
    The Protege went through brake pads faster than I liked.
    I think the 1984 was the only one made in Japan. The other two were assembled in USA. The Made in USA models never got that kind of MPG

    Mazda Japan told Scotty when he came in for the job interview. "You are a nail that sticks out with a voice like that, but you got the job"
    One week later.....

      Not likely. Toyota will be around a lot longer than that Mazda garbage.

      @@rockroll9513 I own both cars or brand, ever since the 70s, from coupes to sedans, hatchbacks to vans and sports cars. Mazda disintegrated in a way when it merged with Ford, but now divorced, it bounced back and keeps on getting better and better. From Corolla and MR2, HiAce to Rav4, and now 3 and MX-5, I can't say bad words cause both brands ROCK! As long as you maintain them well, any brand or car in fact, they won't bite. Unfortunately for Toyota, having a relationship with Subaru and BMW don't quite sit well right now, and now Mazda is in a much better position.

      Rock Roll Um ya forgot about the Mazda Miata. It can last for a long time with regular maintenance. Mazda might be a leader someday because not everyone wants a complicated hybrid. We shall see.
