What do you think of the new highlanders switching to a 4 cylinder?
Hey Scotty,
What would you choose 2023 Mazda CX 5 or 2023 CRV?
Glad to see your conversion to the Mazda faith. I've had three over the last 20 years - an Astina (the FUN version of the 323), the Mazda 3 (damned reliable) and lastly in a back to the future move, a REAL Mazda: the RX8 - a supercar which will pass anything except a gas station (brilliant ride, though). Next may be a B50 pick-up for sheer practicality (love the open air trunk).
Scotty, you’re a little misinformed here. The SCCI technology only exists in the Skyactiv-X engines. The regular Skyactiv engines like seen here, are just regular GDI.
My 2013 Skyactive Mazda has 243k miles, still going strong with zero maintenance issues ever!
My 2013 skyactiv Mazda3 has 140k miles and it is still running perfect. I still get up to 40mpg too..😁
Have either of you done Intake valve cleaning?
@@jC-kc4si I haven't.
That's amazing to hear. Which model may I ask? You took a risk on first year model for Skyactive too and it worked out well. I have 2016 Mazda 6 with 115k miles and no major issues.
That is nice to read. I have a 2021 Skyactive and haven't liked a car as much since my first-gen Honda CRV
I’ve had my 18 CX-5 for 4 years 62,000 miles. It’s been great. No mechanical issues, just general maintenance and a door handle lol. It’s been a better ownership experience than the 10 others vehicles I’ve had in my life.
Did you own 10 Chevys previously? 😂
16 cx-5 currently at 106k and I love it. Broke a rear coil spring probably bc it’s so fun to drive haha! But that’s the only problem I’ve had it still runs like new.
Mazda. The most underrated brand
Cause they trash
When they're good, they're good.
Our 2019 CX5 has never given a single issue.
Still under Toyota and Honda.
Expensive brand
Mitsubishi is the most underrated
Have mine now 5 years
Not one problem
Not even a light bulb.
I have owed 26 Mazdas since 1979... Fantastic cars. I had 18 of them with over 300k miles with minimal maintenance and fun to drive. I had 5 of them with over 400k miles.
And during a majority of that time you were buying cars that were mostly Ford. They were the majority Mazda shareholder till 2008.
Did you ever get the Mazda maintenance package for new cars?
I had a 2014 Mazda 6 with this same Skyactiv engine. Slapped some Continental tires on it, drove and handled like a dream!
Same here, but I went with the superior Toyo tires. The OEM installed Dunlops were complete garbage.
Love my 2017 Mazda 3...same engine! I learn so much on this channel! Sticking with no CVT and no turbo and 184 hp is fine with me.
We have a 2018 CX-5 AWD and love it with a towing capacity of 2000 lbs.
It's why I have my 2007 Chevrolet Silverado with a 293 engine, simplistic, moves this 5700 lb truck fine and is decent gas for a V8. No turbos to shell suddenly, no vvt or dod/afm to fail. Easier to work on than any of these fwd cars out today. If any car comp put a push rod engine back out with it being a RWD Id be in.
Thanks for the video Scotty. In Europe we drive smaller cars with much less power, yet we love them and enjoy them. I drive 2016 Mazda2 with 1.5 liter 115 hp N/A skyactive engine, and this car being so light it's a blast to drive, as handling is amazing and power more than enough.
Same here in Vietnam. We only ride at 10-50 kph in city and 100 kph on high way. I love my Mazda 3 hatchback 2014 1.5L.
The MX5 has the same engine. A really fun drive, engine is a rev-happy monster!
Im glad you’re doing more reviews on Mazda
finally uncle scotty does a mazda review. we need more of those. :)
It took Scotty some time to warm up to Mazda but he seems to be a fan now. I've been buying Mazdas since 2004 w/no complaints. They're reliable, get decent fuel economy, inexpensive to maintain, and great fun to drive. How do you beat that? Can't do it..
Bought a 2021 CX-5 last year, no turbo, cumulative mpg average is 27.5 mostly in town. Road trips are usually around 33, very pleased with performance, handling, and build quality. It’s going in for an oil change next week, definitely worth taking proper care of it.
I have a. 2017.5 Mazda 6. I bought it right before the turbos came out. I bought it new for $17,800, $,2800 below sticker. It’s a wonderful car, plenty of power, 35 mpg on the highway. It’s smooth, quiet and comfortable. I tried out a Subaru with a CVT, it sounded like a washing machine. It was all noise and no go.
I have the same one, as a Diesel with 150hp no turbo, it‘s a lovely car.
I bought that same exact year and model for 13k usd 3 years ago. It was used with less than 30k miles. No problems whatsoever and the dealer wants to buy it back for 17k now lol no way I’m letting go of it especially with how crazy car prices have been today. Good gas mileage, excellent safety, non-CVT transmission, sleek exterior and interior with leather seats couldn’t ask for anything better
@@heinzketchup4558 its no tdi but id love to have a diesel again. Same reason i went to mazda thinking all skyactiv were the same. Didnt realize skyactiv x still wasnt even out yet....and never gained traction. So unfortunate.
@@RafaelLopeztattoos yeh mazda pretty muhc abandoned Diesel engines now except for the 6 Cylinder Diesel for their CX-60.
I am pretty happy with my Diesel so far, it has run 110.000km and only had a sensor break which i only paid around 60€ to fix because i still had warranty on it.
Although i must say that those newest gasoline engines with their self-ignition are comparable efficiency to a Diesel are pretty attractive.
I have a 2022 Mazda3 with the 6 speed manual transmission and I love it. Most people don’t need the extra hp the turbo offers. Glad to see they hold up well with routine maintenance.
My daily is a 2017 Mazda 3 Hatch 6 speed MT with some suspension done. The 185 hp 185 torque is plenty for twisty roads. The car only weighs 3000lbs… 3000lbs is heavy to me (Miata guy) but in 2022 it’s rather light lol.
I have a 04 5 speed mazda 3, 200,000ks on it and still running great and no problems, ive had her since new😁
The one thing I’ve learned since becoming a Mazda tech earlier this year is that the skyactiv series is actually pretty amazing for what it is. The new Miata is the 2.0L variant and I’ve seen them get up to 40mpg. The engines (and cars themselves) are very easy to work on especially considering all new Mazdas are all the same 2.0/2.5L with the exception of the new 3.3P I6.
Mazda tech here too, gotta drop the engine and trans to do anything on that inline 6, even to do spark plugs you have to lower it. I swear the CX-90 is a BMW
Makes me feel better about my 2017 Mazda CX-5 purchase! Thank you, sir! :)
if yours is the non turbo model then you're good 👍
@@MetalsForBrunch They have very weak timing chains. Especially the older ones.
My sis-in-law bought a 2022 CX5 and she loves it. She said she will probably not go back to Honda. I was super surprised the first time I drove it. They are deceptively quick even when not in sport mode.
Honda is still one of the best. And you can't judge that by a brand new mazda. It's brand new...
@@richsweeney1115 honda is overrated
@@richsweeney1115 Honda is not as it was before.
@@richsweeney1115 Honda might be good but Mazda is the best car for now. I have both brands 2016 CX-5 and 2019 CRV. Beside that I have had CRV 3 consecutive times 2017 2018 and 2019 because of oil dilution problems. Now Mazda has over thrown Honda.
@@barimahprince7179 I love my 2023 CX-50 ❤ sold my Honda CRV 2018 only downside is the Gas Mileage
Mazda CX-5 is my number 1 recommendation for a vehicle.
-My parents have two; 2016 and 2023. 2016 they bought new and has 145k miles.
-My wife has a 2015
-My aunt has bought two
-Three different friends have a CX-5.
Great cars.
I have a 2013 cx5 with around the same mileage 154k. Still drives like a dream! 30mpg avg on 87 pump gas. Oil every 5k, transmission fluid and filter every 60k shifts perfect still. No leaks or oily smells. Tires and brakes when due. Everything else works like new. Car has needed no major repairs since ownership in 2015. Was the best auto purchase ever made and I've owned everything from BMWs, Fords, Infinitys, even my Mini Cooper with 164k needed much more repairs and maintenance compared to the Mazda. The cx5 even has the original alternator!
Way 2 go..Happy motoring love my 2023 CX-50 ❤
Hello Scotty, bought a 2013 Mazda CX5 in 2012 they came out early. Only engine it came with at that time was the 2 liter and being loaded with all wheel drive it was under powered.
Six years later and just under 200000 miles and not a single issue I traded it on a new 2019 loaded but without the all wheel drive being in Fl. The 2.5 engine makes a world of difference and average between 27 miles a gal in traffic here and on highway 35 if kept under 75.
The 2.0l feels sometime underpowered on a FWD Mazda 3. I can't imagine on a CX5 with AWD.
Scotty email will be blowing up with invites from Mazda. Pure masterclass on simple auto engineering
gotta love those beauty covers on the engines so they can charge more for the car🤣
This WAS new way back in 2011...

to me, its been fun watching scotty turn up the love for mazda over the years. over the past 3 decades I've owned plenty (7) mazdas with all previous going over 250k miles. I currently own 3; 02 tribute (5 speed manual 187k miles), 16 6 (6 speed manual 155k miles), 21 cx-5 (6 speed auto 72k miles) and all run like a fine tuned top. of the 7 I've owned, 5 have been manual and 2 automagic, always minimal mechanical "problems" while just going down the road. zoom zoom indeed!
"These held up, and the newer ones seem to be even better built..." lol! The irony of a Jeep driving past in the background while Scotty was saying that! Lol! 9:03
I noticed that, absolutely classic timing.
@Free2 Roam. Lol! Thumbs up to Scotty!
Man, I love the 6-speed. Never has to hunt for a gear. Almost a year since buying a new CX-5 Touring ("Select," as of 2022 model year). Scotty nailed it--adequate power, good MPG, and you never get tired of looking at it 😎 The Touring/Select is next-to-bottom trim, but it's got what I want--great price, too.
Their 6 speed is the best non luxury AT out there I think by far
Do you have engine problems do to the cylinder deactivation feature?
@@antonio4430 I don't want to jinx myself but I just surpassed 2 years of ownership. I bought a new 2021 CX5 Touring (Select) in January of 2022. No problems of any kind and I already have 35,000 miles on it. It seems like the more I own it the newer it feels.
Love your videos, Scotty! I’ve always wondered what all went into their “Skyactiv” tech, but never could be bothered to look into it 😅😂 Swear, I learn something from your videos, daily! Keep up the great work!!
This is the exact same car that I have. Mine only has 47k on it. I love it. Handles like a older sports car.
I have a 2017 Mazda 6, with the NA 2.5L, with a 6 speed manual transmission. It is fun to drive, reliable, and as you said gets good gas mileage on 87 octane gasoline!
Great looking too
Yes, they are nice looking cars
I bought a used 2014 Mazda 3 GT.
Almost at 110k miles and it still drive like a dream. The build quality is amazing too. Mazda is IMO the top Japanese brand atm thanks to the balance of decent driving dynamics, premium interior and great reliability.
Its a brand for the enthusiasts who don't want a Honda or Toyota anymore.
Always enjoy your videos. I have a 2016 Mazda Miata consistently gets 37mpg highway running 70mph with cruise control. I have the 6 speed manual, a fun car to drive. As of 2022 all Mazda CX-5 models come with AWD as a standard feature. Thanks for sharing so much valuable and helpful information!

As someone who went from a toyota corolla to a Mazda CX-5 this makes me much happier about my recent purchase. Thank You Scotty
Same case here
Same here x2
No touch screen to change the radio while driving was a deal breaker for me.
Hi Scotty! You talked about almost everything I loved about the new Mazda Skyactiv cars. Mazda always surprises me with the innovation of their technologies and engineering. For example, the Skyactiv G engine you had there could also switch from an Atkinson cycle to and Otto cycle on demand for power. And their skyactive drive 6-speed autos shift very smoothly despite engaging their lock up clutch inside their torque converter earlier in the rpm. They also injected their jinba-ittai handling design from the MX-5 into their sedans and SUVs so they feel even more zoom zoom in corners.
Asides from Mazda, what is your expert opinion about Honda, and in particular their new range of e:HEV hybrids? Although they refer to it as an eCVT, there is actually no transmission aside for a single overdrive gear that's engaged via a clutch for highway cruising. Is their twist of an almost purely electric motor driven hybrid power train a sensible piece of engineering?
Switched from a Toyota to a Mazda & I am amazed how good & better it is
Toyota are over rated. They are generally inferior, the one Toyota that's really a champ is Land Cruiser.
Same the quality and attention to detail in the design is amazing, mazda is fantastic
Mazda got better since linking up with Toyota
This video describes SkyActiv-X, but that vehicle, due to its age, probably uses SkyActiv-G. Most, if not all, new and used Mazdas in the North American market use SkyActiv-G. SkyActiv-G does have a reputation of being reliable and producing nice power. It just works a little differently.
2016 Mazda 3 auto owner. 163k miles… only done brakes, fluid changes, tires and a water pump. Steering wheel is worn, but lots of city driving. I still get 40+ on the freeway and 30 in the city. I only have the 2.0, it’s very zippy in the city. Auto trans is great
They make some good engines and transmissions i had a 17 mazda 6 I drove it til 247k with mo major issues and traded it for a 22 cx 30
My second Mazda to own and I am well pleased with the efficiency and reliability of this brand 👍
The 2017 Mazda 6 I bought for my wife is the best automobile purchase I've ever made. I'm in my 60s, and have bought a LOT of cars. Probably going to keep this one until it's my kid's problem.
My first car was a 2008 Mazda 3, fun as hell, fuel efficient, and lots of space because of the hatchback. I bought it at 205000 km's and drove it for 30,000 more km's. Only thing that went on it was the TCM which is placed under the battery for some reason so it melted. $900 for a new one. Had some suspension wear that needed replacing eventually, but it has zero rust and ran smooth through winters.
When I finished college and got my first real job, I bought a 2017 Mazda 3 GT brand new. It has the larger 2.5 NA engine, probably the same as the one in the video, and I drove that 100,000km's, never had any issue, car ran as if it was brand new when I sold it. Only ever did oil changes.
Eventually I traded to something bigger because I needed the space for my dog and my new baby. Decided on a 2015 Subaru Forester XT over the CX-5 only because the trunk is much smaller than the Forester and I wanted my greyhound to fit in the back. The Subaru drives extremely similarly to the Mazda though of course with the turbo it packs more of a punch, and doesn't corner as well.
The two manufacturers are so similar in design and philosophy though. I'm planning to get a second car and considering going back to a Mazda 3 or CX-30 as my first manual transmission. Just something I can daily for my long commute, has a great sound and entertainment system, and is comfortable. Only issues I had with the 3 were the FWD and the lower ground clearance.
Mazda's main "Skyactiv" star is not the engine, but the FW6A(X)-EL "Skyactiv-Drive" 6-speed auto. The torque converter's multi-plate clutch locks up around 90% of the time, even in 1st gear. That makes the driving experience (and drivetrain efficiency) virtually identical to what you'll get in a well-driven manual transmission.
And for the UMPTEENTH TIME!!!: Mazdas *DO NOT* have *ANY* Toyota tech in them!!!!!!!!! The Mazda/Toyota partnership was founded in 2018. The Skyactiv-Drive came out in *2011* .
- "I doesn't need premium gas"
No it doesn't, but Skyactiv's are known to run better with higher octane.

I MIGHT... But I WON'T. :)
That said, the MX-5's 6-sp. automatic is in fact an Aisin sourced unit (at least it is on the "C" and "D" generations). But then, that's a longitudinal RWD transmission, and the FW6A(X)-EL is a FWD/AWD transaxle. You'll note that Mazda's literature never makes the claim that the MX-5 automatic is "Skyactiv." They only make that claim for the manual transmission (which is in fact Mazda sourced).
It's gotta be one of the best 6 speed torque converters ever considering everyone else jumped to CVT or 7-10 speed autos
Scotty, you’re explaining Skyactive-X engines in Mazdas, and none have made it to the States. We only have Skyactiv-G. The “X” model engine acts as the diesel, not the “G”. The G model were the improvements over the previous generations. I have a 2009 3 hatchback, great car. 86,000 miles…..runs like a top.
Mazda3 2017 here from new. Just oil changes, filters, tyres, and wipers and the engine likes to be revved. Always driven it like I stole it - pretty solid car. Highest mpg at 53 mpg (petrol) at 60mph. Lowest at 44 mpg at 70 mph.
My 2015 Mazda 6 has been a great car. It's been faultless, handles like it's on rails, and does great in winter weather. I've done as good as 42 mpg with it too. I gather Mazda discontinued the 6, but they're working on a new one due out next year. It's supposedly front engine/rear wheel drive.
PS Mazda made a wagon version of the 6 too, which would be perfect for me. Unfortunately they didn't sell it in the US.

Have you done an intake valve cleaning? How is the mileage holding up? I recently got my best mileage of 61.5 highway with my 2017 Toyota iA aka Mazda 2 after Installing K&N air filter.
I did a ton of research when buying my car back in 2021, ended up on cx5 2017 model. I live in the mountains and it performs insanely well in snow. Never had a single issue. Starting in 2018 they started doing cylinder deactivation for a little extra gas mileage. Opted out of that. I expect ill have my vehicle for years to come and be super happy with it!

I've just come from a Camry with 3.5 V6 to a Mazda 6 2.5 NA. The 3.5 Camry is definitely quicker, however not as much as you may think, for an NA engine it's deceptively swift.

The first engines were Skyactiv and the spark plugs ignited at every combustion. Later models came with optional Skyactiv-X engines with spark plugs in every chamber, but doesn't ignite at crusing speed/low rpm. Spark plugs were still involved during start-ups and high rpms.
Proud owner of 2012 CX-5.
I'm a BIG FAN of MAZDA. Thoughtful engineering, great build quality and top reliability with super fuel economy. And fun to drive with attractive designs! What's not to LOVE?! Owned two MX-5's - my 2009 NC 2.0 liter Sport returns 34 mpg US tank after tank after tank.
Had 5 Mazda's and all were great...until I got a CX5 diesel. You're right about the petrol versions without turbo having no trouble with carbon build up, but the diesel version I'd stay well clear of. The amount of online reviews saying how bad the carbon build up gets is stunning. I had the engine check light, TPMS light, low oil pressure light all on... checked out some videos on UA-cam and realised those diesel engines are a pile of junk. Mazda really dropped the ball with the diesel. Stay clear and go for the petrol
Thays right Scotty!!! Love Skyactive Tech and how mazda has TRADITIONAL AUTO TRANSMISSIONS even for 2022 cars not like most of Korean and Japanese cars (yeah even Toyota and Honda) going for their tashy CVTs which for the sake or some lame 2 or 3 more miles sacrifice that ZOOM ZOOM feeling!!! Keep it up
Scotty, we just bought a 2023 Mazda 3 hatchback Preferred package with 2.5 L no turbo. I was worried about the DI, direct injection gas. The dealer recommended we bring the car in every 15K miles for a fuel induction cleaning for the carbon build up on the valve stems. Should we do this service every 15K? We always change our oil every 5K miles and only use Shell, Mobile or Exxon gas.
You can clean the carbon cleanup yourself with a visit to the auto shop for a can of cleaner to drop in your tank if that worries you. Personally I wouldn't be worrying about it until the engine has some higher mileage like 80000 miles on it. These engines have been around since 2012 when they launched in the Mazda 6 and they aren't known for having bad carbon buildup. That said, Americans over service their cars compared to many other countries/markets. Your oil change interval is much lower then what Mazda Australia or Europe would recommend for the same engine and car. In the end if you get it done by the dealer, it shouldn't hurt the car and you'll be helping the dealer principal to buy a nice house for his third wife.
Love 'em or hate 'em, the Ford Focus (my wife has a 2016) puts out 160 HP from a naturally aspirated 2.0 L engine and gets phenomenal fuel economy. The car rides and handles beautifully and came very well equipped. The only MAJOR issue with these cars is the DCT. The clutch can fail and that costs anywhere from $1500 - $2000 CAD to fix. Of course Ford got out of the "car" business and now only sells SUV's (with the exception of the Mustang). Too bad. If they'd got that tranny fixed, this is a car that could compete with anything from Japan or Korea.
If you drive a lot of highway the dct is probably fine. I haven't driven one but after years of driving a manual transmission it sounds like something you have to adjust your driving style to, huh? People that expect it to operate like a traditional auto probably have the most issues or unpleasant experience with them. Sounds like a car you wouldn't want to own in a city where it is shifting all the time, where you have to creep forward slowly in traffic, sometimes you have to get off and right back on the throttle, etc...
Had the same car main computer went out at 20,000 miles thank god it was a lease lol.
@@gamingwithzan4654 20k miles that's covered under the warranty....
@@richsweeney1115 yeah, and that's a rare occurrence in all cars.
THIS IS OUR LAST VEHICLE . We are 74 years old and wanted one last dependable vehicle ,,that would last us for hopefully many more years . We purchased a new 2021 Mazda CX5 . basic model . Less gadgets and chips stuff on it . We really like it and don't plan on replacing it . After this one we will be using taxi cabs .
I have my 3rd Mazda 3 premium Hatchback standard shift on order, a 2024. Naturally aspirated no turbo. My first 2 were a 2015 and 2021. Sadly both were wrecked. The improvements from the 2015 to the 2021 were great. Additional safety features, quieter inside. Plenty of power in the Skyactive G engine in the 2021. I am excited to see the tweaks in the 2024 that is scheduled to arrive in the states first week of April. Before I bought my 2015 I drove a 2000 Celica GT for 15 years. The tight turning radius, and handling on curvy roads is what I want. Averaged 35 mpg with the 2015 and 32 with the 2021.
Love my new mazda 3 hatchback! Best car I've ever owned. Except the e brake. That blows
Try J-B Weld extreme heat to fix the hole. Be ready to use it all since it is an epoxy.
I have to agree with you on the Tesla's. I do like them but 0 - 60 in 2.0 secs is unnecessary.. We need Tesla to make affordable cars. Most people don't need self driving either. Make one with one motor and goes A to B for $17,000
You'll only get stuck faster behind the car in front.
This is all the reasons I went with the mazdas. They may not have any high performance speed versions anymore but it is a very sensible car. A little expensive but you feel it in the driving feel and cabin materials.
My 2015 has 360,000 miles on it! Still going strong!
I want a modernized Straight 6 no turbo with fuel injection that you change plugs and injectors without having to pull intake or anything.
Good to see Mazda still uses oil dipsticks. Much more reliable than oil level sensors. And with gas burning cars you can check the oil color too.
Pretty cool car.
I seen where GM posted the configurator for their newly planned hybrid Corvette, then quickly removed it.
Great Video! Currently 8-28-2024 Mazda has a pending law suit over several of their Skyactive 2.5 Turbo engines with some sort of coolant leak entering the engine. You nailed it! Over all good engine, just stay away from the Turbo's!
Had an 06 Mazda 3. One of the best cars i ever owned. Got totaled. I miss it
Most of people know that mazda is clearly all its models made in Japan🇯🇵 so it's natural that all the cars can last forever because of japanese production. Some of the old models were problematic because their engine was Ford and as a result none wanted to buy this car brand. But now thanks to sky active technology mazda has achieved to create engines of their own and make the car stronger and of course more reliable. Last but not least, they can last forever if the owner takes care of them
Some Mazdas sold in North America are made in Mexico.
A lot of them come from Mexico but they don't have any more issue than the Japanese made ones...
So happy you're covering Mazda.. once you Mazda you never go back!
The SkyActiv"G" engine has been out for quite a few years, and is a traditional tech engine. But the Skyactive "X" engine only came out the last couple years. It has the new hybrid spark and diesel tech for a gasoline engine. It hasn't taken off in popularity. maybe the extra 4-6 thousand more is putting people off. I haven't heard any rave reviews on the new engine. Mazda makes a nice refined car with good styling and quality. Appreciated more on Australia than the USA. I hope the price comes down and Mazda partners with Toyota for Hybrid Battery models as they are the only Asian import without a Hybrid line-up and risk getting left behind.
Scotty was describing the X and us stateside folks haven’t gotten them yet, I’ve read due to “lower” power. It’s garbage compared to the previous engines regarding power. Bring on the fuel efficient Mazdas! Mazda announced 2023-2024 CX90 in PHEV or similar.
Scotty becoming a Mazda fan. And Mazda becoming a Scotty fan by ditching electric cars
Mazda added available turbo's starting in 2016 with the CX-9, not 2019, and other than 2021 model year getting some bad exhaust valve seals, they have been super reliable!
I bought a 2016 brand new Mazda 3 iSport. Only had 5 miles on it when I test drove it. 6 speed manual by the way. Really fun to drive!! It's fully paid off. I have around 88,000 miles on it now. No problems at all. Japanese know their stuff. Darn fine vehicle. :)
Diesel doesnt compress fuel it compress air to the top dead center and when the air is compressed it generates high temperature so reaching before top dead center fuel is injected to the compressed hot air through a high pressure fuel injector (more pressure than gasoline) the pressurised hot air spontaneously ignites the diesel fuel. I'm not teaching you this you are an experienced mechanic but i think when you said about diesel engine your tongue has twisted somewhat..!
Should you warm up the engine before driving it? My old Honda Fit had the blue temperature icon that disappears once the engine is at operating temperature. In this video, this Mazda has it as well. When I was in the Air Force, every operating manual always say to start up the engine, let it come to operating temperature before increasing the RPM's.
My Fit has one, my 1968 LTD had one. Just drive any car easy when cold and take off in a minute once you start it. Idling a cold engine for extended time is not good, it will warm up with gentle driving
Skyactivs (i.e. all Mazdas since around 2014) run on synthetic oil. In very cold temps (-20 or colder), a minute or so of warm-up is all that's needed.
Its because you they dont have temp gage, to me that blue light means i do not turn on the car heat until its off...
Just don't floor it until after the light comes off
You can drive it at low speeds until the light shuts off. 0w 20 synthetic. Thinner than water😉
I’m getting ready to pull the trigger on a new Mazda CX-5 as we’ve been priced out of the market for the new Honda CRV. I have to admit, I was / am scared to leave Honda because that is what we know…been Honda owners for years…Thank you, Scotty for explaining this SkyActiv engine!
Hey dude, if my experience means anything, my wife and I have had a reiteration of both CRVs and Honda accords in the driveway for like 20 years . We made the switch Mazda, a CX-5 and a 6 in the driveway now and honestly we haven't looked back. Back. They've been extremely reliable and fun to drive. Oh, and for what it's worth, I commute 50 mi each way a day. My CX-5 is a 2016 that I purchased in 2018, I have 117,000 on it and runs like new.
@@bryanteger Thank you! I’m so glad you wrote this and replied. Yes, it does help a lot! Our appt is scheduled for next week. We have a “hold” ($ paid for hold) on the CX-5. The dealership has been wonderful although we have to travel out of state. We got almost $2k off MSRP and no mark-up. Thank you so very much! 🙏🏻
@@bryanteger one more thing…Honda asking 43k for CRV in our area….can you believe it? And, would not budge on price despite my best negotiation attempts…
@@rdnretiredatlast4918 they're great vehicles and punch way above their weight class in my opinion. Hope you enjoy them as much as I do!
Us too! Thank you again for providing your experience. We really appreciate it. 👍🏻
2.5 turbo is amazing really amazing alotof torque
I own a Mazda3 GT 2.5L 2018 and it drives like a dream. The engine feels peppy, handles incredibly well and so far never had issues with it.
Just bought a 2018 Mazda3 GT and man what a great little sedan it has been, the manual is a blast to drive and the technology in it is pretty slick.
Thanks, for the video Scotty. Love your videos and enjoy your comments and opinions. My grandson Desmond Is a future great mechanic like you. He has a 1999 Mazda Miata.
We own 2 Mazda CX-5's. My wife has a 2015 Mazda CX-5 GT non-Turbo, w/106,000 miles and I have a 2019 CX-5 Signature, Turbo w/ 62,000. She and I get roughly the same gas mileage. 21-24 MPG in town and 28-30 MPG on the Interstate. Take several trips from Michigan to North Carolina each year.
I use regular gas in my Turbo and love the extra power when I need it. We both have been trouble free and no oil use issues. We change our oil every 5-6,0000 miles.
Have owned several Mazda's over 20 plus years, and they all have been very reliable. Even my previous 2007 Mazda 6i 5-door made at the joint Ford/Mazda factory in Flat Rock, MI.
Find them as reliable as Toyota but I like their design and steering/handling better. They have more personality.
Mazda deserves more sales and respect.
Bought my wife a 2019 CX5 new. Traded in the biggest POS ever made Jeep Cherokee for the Mazda.
Since 2019 the Mazda has not given one issue. The electronic calipers on the brakes are the only issue I've had.
Between my 2020 TRD and the Mazda I'm sold on certian Japaneese vehicles and will likely never buy American again.
I like them, recently considered buying one but the salesperson told me that a CX-9 couldn’t tow my Jet Ski trailer with 2 skis. Total package only weighs 2050 lbs. Found out later that they can tow up to like 4K, but I’d already bought a 4Runner. Mazda should educate their sales staff better.
Most sales staff lie ... you have to do your own research.
Next time buy cx9
My 2014 has 44000 on it. I really get around. Truly great cars.
Beginning to like Mazdas more and more
Thanks Scottie.
I’ve got a 2017 Mazda 3 with a 2 litre motor. One of the best cars I have ever owned. The steering and handling are phenomenal and the economy is great. 2 litres is plenty for me. I service my own vehicles because I don’t trust dealers having been burned by them in the past. I was flat out finding things to service besides the oil and oil and air filters. Fitted with iridium plugs not needing changing every 10000. That a plus. The seat and steering column adjustment are comprehensive and allows perfect solutions for short or tall people. I haven’t found anything to complain about yet. One beef is there is no temperature gauge but a light that comes on if it ever overheats. Hmmmm. Disconnected that stupid stop start function pretty quickly. I can’t think of a faster way to destroy an engine and a starter motor.
Great video and timely for me. I am looking for a used CX5 right now. I was seriously considering the turbo. I think I will opt out of that now. I feel they are a little over priced and I'm waiting for them to come down. Thanks again.
I had a 2016.5 cx5 sport 2.0 skyactive 6 speed . Best car I have ever had , wish I didn’t have to sell it
I have a 2015 Mazda 6 2.2tdi that's been remapped to 200hp, I absolutely love it, it's a boat of a car but handles so well and you can fling it around corners like a car half its size
380,000.0 and still running like new..Mazda 3 2012 Skyactive...I was told its a 4 cylinder that drops to 2 cylinder after it gets up to speed
plus the transmission is a Mazda not a Jenco..its also 6spd ..this car is fun to drive but the bumps in the road are killer Im an old man
and driving Uber I prefer my Mazda 6 2.5l ..it also has high mileage but runs great..374,000.0...so easy to drive, turns great.
My 2010 was awesome, bought a extended warranty and never used it , I traded it with 179000 and only replace battery, brakes and tires
