Written by Willie Nelson. He was a struggling songwriter and was about to give up, but he sent this song out as a last gasp and the biggest female star in country music liked it.

Not only that. Patsy tried singing it like Willie and it got frustrating. When she expressed ‘I can’t sing it like him’, she was told to do it her way and she did indeed! Slowed the song down and did her magic with her voice. Gone but not forgotten.

In June, 1961, Patsy was involved in a head-on car crash that sent her through the windshield, resulting in facial injuries, broken ribs and a dislocated hip. She was wearing the head band in one of the clips of this video to ease scarring to her face as well as soothe constant headaches she was experiencing. She recorded "Crazy" in August of that year, still on crutches and in pain from the broken ribs. In those days the artist and the musicians on the session recorded at the same time. On the first day of the session, she could not reach the notes to her liking due to the pain. She left for the day, and the producer, Owen Bradley, recorded the musicians session and Patsy came back a few days later and recorded her vocals in one take! The piano player on this session was the late, great Floyd Cramer, with his signature "slip note" style of playing, who had an instrumental country hit with "Last Date". He was part of what they called in Nashville the "A Team" of session musicians that created that "Nashville Sound" of the late 50s and early 60s, which showcased Patsy's voice (and background vocals provided by The Jordanaires, also heard on the early Elvis records) with the mix of country and pop.

Patsy Cline, the life she lived, things she endured. When she recorded this song she had just survived an automobile accident. Another 30 year old shining star, gone too soon. This song really shows Willie Nelson's ability to write beautiful lyrics. He later recorded it as a single. RIP beautiful soul.
