      whoops, don't know how I forgot that! It's around 10,500 lux at 1m (3ft) with the old style Godox reflector on it. With the new style, which is more like cheating, its around 33,000 lux.

In future reviews, would you consider evaluating a light's performance when powered by a V-Mount battery? An idea of how long a particular light will operate at 100% (or *if* a particular light will operate at 100%) with battery power would be useful information. Thanks again. So this is a great addition to the silent lineup, but I'd personally just jump up to the UL150 as there are many scenarios where just blasting the 150W light 100% can become useful, $200-$250 would've been a better price for this. Also, more than fan noise, the selling point of silent lights for me is that they have no moving parts, so there's less chance of failure, and these passively cooled lights should last for longer.

    Hi Fellow Filmmaker, I bought the UL60Bi a few weeks ago. I have two issues with the light.
    First, I have not been able to get DMX control to work. I am using a MacOS program called Lightkey along with an Entec DMX USB Pro controller. I have the UL60BI first on the USB bus followed by a pair of TL60s. The TL60s work fine using DMX control but the UL60Bi does not respond to any command. I had Lightkey create a DMX driver, based on the included specifications, for the UL60Bi so it’s not user error.
    Second, I have the control box mounted high right next to the light. I can turn the light on and off and control dim level and color temp with the control box. I can also control effects using the control box. Once the control box is power on using the control box, I can control it with the RF remote. After powering off or setting the dim level to zero with the RF remote, the control box displays 0F and the fixture is not emitting any light. As long as the control box displays 0F or is on, I can control it with the RF remote. However, the control box seems to power down completely over night because it displays nothing in the morning and the RF remote is not able to power the light on. Since the control box is mounted high, I have to get a ladder to power it back on.
    I have not been successful in getting any help from Godox and I am about ready to return it. Before I do that, I thought I’d check with you to see if you have experienced any of these problems. I really want this light to work but if I can not solve these problems it is going back. Thanks for doing what you do. it is helpful.
    Thanks, Dean

    • @FellowFilmmaker
      @FellowFilmmaker  Рік тому

      Hi Dean
      Thanks for asking!
      I've not done the DMX stuff myself, so I'm not much help there.
      However with the other issue, of it turning off overnight, I've had that. I too wanted to be able to just hit a remote and turn my lights one. The UL60 for me is one that powers off after a long period of time. The ML60's do this as well and it's one of the things I don't like about it (only figured it out once I had the situation present itself).
      The only workaround I can think of and one I've looked into is using a switchbot to manually turn the lights on. Might be a little annoying of a workaround, but I suppose it's a workaround.
      A light that does not turn off automatically even overnight or many days of being off is the Amaran p60c (I use it in my studio so it's why I use it for an example). I can open the app and turn it on no matter when the last time I used it was.

    • @DeanDetton
      @DeanDetton Рік тому

      @@FellowFilmmaker Thanks for the quick response. The switch bot is a non-starter for me. I’m not a photographer, I use the light in my studio for live streaming with an eye toward video creation. I can control all of the lights in my studio with a stream deck except this one. I originally started with a Godox SL60W which I could control with a remote but I decided I wanted color temp control so I tried the Nanlite Forza 60B. This was fine except control was wonky. That’s what led me to the UL60Bi. On paper, it was exactly what I wanted. Bi-color, dmx control and silent. But so far has not lived up to it’s specification. Can’t find anyone that has done dmx control with this light. Have you had any luck getting tech support from Godox? Their email support will reply anywhere from 3-7 days with a response that has so far not been helpful. Do you have a better channel into Godox support?
      I’ll take a look at the Amaran p60c. Out all of the manufacturers that you have worked with, are there any that provide decent support? Ideally, phone support. Thanks for taking the time to reply! it is appreciated.

    • @FellowFilmmaker
      @FellowFilmmaker  Рік тому

      I don't have much better luck with Godox, the best they tell me is they will have a team look into an issue I present to them. I've yet to see them make many changes based off what I tell them.
      I'm sorry the DMX is not working out for you.
      You said you're trying to make it work from you stream deck? I've got one, just never tried DMX before. Maybe I'll look into it more and if I find a solution I'll make a video.
      And Aputure (they also own Amaran) are the best for responding. They have a facebook group that is very responsive and the Aputure team is in the group responding all the time. I believe they have phone lines as well. I've always heard they go above and beyond when it comes to helping out.

    • @DeanDetton
      @DeanDetton Рік тому

      @@FellowFilmmaker This is very helpful. I will be looking into Aputure products now that I know that their support is good . As much as I wanted to like the UL60BI, it is going back. I'm willing to help manufacturers solve problems but only if they are "all in". Unfortunately, Godox is not.
      Here is my setup for controlling the TL60 from my streamdeck. I am using an Entec DMX USB Pro Controller. I have the UL60Bi DMX In connected to the Entec DMX Out. I have a TL-60 DMX In connected to the UL60Bi DMX Out. I have a second TL60 connected next with a DMX terminator on it's output. I use the Lightkey app on MacOS to create my DMX presets and cues. The streamdeck and Entec are connected via usb to my M1 Mac Mini. I use MacOS shortcuts to trigger the DMX cue in Lightkey. I use the stream deck to trigger the MacOS shortcut. Lightkey tech support built a DMX driver for the UL60Bi for me at no charge. This setup works with the TL60 but not the UL60Bi. Once you have the Entec and cabling in place you can do it all from the Lightkey app on MacOS. The streamdeck and shortcuts are just a convenient way of triggering the cue. Just wanted to lay this out for you because it is a bit involved. My goal is to turn on my lights to the right color and intensity with a single button press. I don't want to be messing with an app this and an app for that. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions about this. There may be easier ways to do this. This is just the one I came up with.

    Hello Fellow Filmmaker, Bought the UL60. Here is the feedback. I run a pair of A6400 Sonys, sigma 16mm 1.4, was using a ring light, and a pair of LEDS, Filming in Slog2, (can be done with 8bit, just have to do the grading myself, no luts). I wanted to get a more professional light, since I have not bought gear since 2019. The UL60 cost more than my ring light and leds combined. Set everything up did some testing and this is the result: The actual brightness is not better. About the same, maybe I get an extra stop with the UL60. However, it is the quality difference. The ring light and leds are harsh and the UL60 with the softbox, gives a more pleasant lighting experience. I would say the major improvement is not the amount of light, just the quality. The quality is noticeable, and the UL60 is clearly superior. Am I pleased....well if they had the 150 watt FV150 at the store,...I would have grabbed that for $80 more. The UL60 light still needs to be very close 3-4 feet to be effective. For those not shooting in log you can probably get away with 5-7 on an APC, and still maintain your colors.

It's not too much of a difference in price for me, so which do you think is the most powerful or the most well-built? @@FellowFilmmaker So it’s never going to work? No firmware update? I would assume with it being Bluetooth it would be a simple fix?

      @@FellowFilmmaker Obviously know it’s not you personally, but I’m assuming you have their ear.

      Yeah, I'm not exactly sure how that would work.

    Wouldnt it be crazy if our FTF team made a light. They would master that build and I would buy it right away!!

    is it flicker free at higher shutter speeds

      I'm not sure if I recall, but I have used it for some 60fps and it's been fine. Not sure about much higher than that since it is only a 60w light so I'd be using other lights for brightness

    Greetings, how do i know if 60Watt is enough for my room? thanks

      If you have controlled lighting (no natural light spilling in) and a camera that does well with shadows and light then you should be good. Also, just know if you use high frame rates you'll possibly need more light (slo mo shooting)

    If you use DMX I feel like the $200 price range is a really good value, if you don't need it I do agree that you could find something cheaper
