Comment to: 6:05 You're mentioning the restriction where the batteries are in the way when tilting the light down, while using a softbox. The fastest and easiest solution to this is just to unscrew the light from the handle and flip it 180 degrees, so the batteries are on the rear side of the light instead. I have done this several times myself, works like a charm! 🙌🏼
Man, Thank God for Godox, when I first started thinking about starting my channel I thought i would have to spend hundreds of dollars on the apature 120d but the sl60w has given me awesome results as well without breaking the bank
Im sure this has been mentioned before but when you use the soft box you can just mount the light in reverse so the battery pack is at the back. It makes the handle a little more awkward to move but it allows the soft box some more movement.
Thanks for the review. Will really like to know how bright it is in daylight. For an outdoor, day use, in place of a reflector...how effective will it be? Thank you.
This light caught my eye and your review sold it for me. I love it and it's all ready been a lifesaver for indoor shoots with limited space and without being invasive to the subject. Sometimes you just don't want/need flash popping off every second.
I was always wondering why the soft boxes aren’t made that way, so simple instead of wrestling with the damn wires and fabric... so cumbersome. Hope they set a trend for soft boxes.
ordered this on a whim last year then figured I better watch a video of it. Watched this video and was looking forward to its arrival. So I have been using the ML60 as a wedding videographer for the last year, during speeches and also some couples stuff outside at night. The light is great and I cannot live without it. I just purchased some barn doors for it to improve my directional control. So looking forward to seeing how I can improve my lighting situation going forward. So far it has been a beast and I only ever have to use it at max 50%. Might get another one to replace my other led panels.

Great vid and very informative. Super presentation style as well. Perhaps your accent is a nice bonus ;) The question in the title is: is it powerful enough? I may have missed the exact moment it was mentioned (I have a busy toddler at my ankles), but how powerful are they? I am new to video and LED lighting. It would be super helpful if you could share at what power setting this video was shot, and then what aperture and ISO you used along with it. At full power and with the octabox attached, how far do you place the light? What I’m asking is this - is it strong enough to light a space for two people doing an interview or is it mainly aimed at single person setups like this video? Also, will they work outside in cloudy or sunny conditions to fill the shadows a bit? even if they have to be used without diffusion. This will make it easier than having to get an assistant to try and keep a reflector still. Especially if there is even a slight breeze ;)
Compelling video...made me watch to the end. What's the amount if time with the battery pack at full charge on both half intensity and full intensity? How long before battery runs out on a shoot.
Can you use this light with 100% on battery? I've bought this light on this morning but I've used NP Battery 4400mah I can use for 100% just only few minutes and then light turn off (but lcd screen still on)
Oh my gosh. Thank you so much for introducing this product. I was going to buy SL150WII over SL60 because of the improved an better feature of SL150wii, even though 150w is far more than I need. But now, I think i will buy ML60.
I mean it looks really cool and better than the SL60, but it does cost twice as much. You really have to be sure that you NEED the portability aspect. I think I'd rather get the SL150 Mark I or Mark II for the higher output outdoors and if I need to go portable, I'll get a portable camping generator for 300-500$ so I can charge all of my lights outdoors by cable. But still, great video Sam! I really love that you show off great products on your channel! You got me back then with the GVM Slider haha

Great video Sam. Do you think this would make a good fill light? I've been using the SL150ii as my key and then using natural light from a window to my side for the fill. Awesome review really glad I found your channel from this and this is a light I’ve been looking at as well and yes I’d use it to up my UA-cam video game, but I was wondering if you had any idea on whether it’s bright enough to use for stills photography as well?
Hi Gareth. Thanks for watching. I’m pleased you enjoy the channel 🙏🏻 it’s a great light. To be honest I don’t do much photography and I wouldn’t like to tell you something that’s not suited to you. Could be worth giving a go if you’re using for your UA-cam channel anyway. If you’re not sure, check out my video on the SL150II that’s a brighter version, if you haven’t seen it already 🙏🏻
@@SamHolland thanks I’ll check that out now, I shoot on location as well so the portability would be even better but maybe there’s a ML150 in the works 🤔
Hello again! I got this light ML60 bi last year and is a good light. But I don't like the proprietary Godox softbox so I need to get a bowens mount adapter for this light. Which one exactly? The Godox S2 speedlite bracket? there is a new version that is all metal etc. Thanks so much !
Thank you very much for your video! I'm looking for a way to set up only one light source for my documentary. I am considering taking Godox ML60. Which stand do you use with that light? I will add a Godox Cs-85D lantern on this light as well.
Hey man, great video! Been looking at lighting for my own videos for a while now. Going to be setting up a new video studio space next year so this might have to be put on the list! I’ve subbed 😊
in order for me to have an idea of how bright it is in full power, could you tell me what the exposure settings would need to be if it is lighting you at full power for this video? For example at 2ft with the softbox, 2x diffused with the grid, would your exposure be: 1/50sec, @ F2.8, ISO 100 ?
Light was roughly 2ft away from me with 2 layers of diffusion on all examples. Some with grid, some without. 1/50 shutter. F3.2 iso 400 on the canon eos R
@@SamHolland was it at full power? Just trying to see how it would compare with the Stella CLX8 Also, do you know of any easy way to gell those lights when using the softbox? Thank you so much for your help
Thanks for the review. I have the SL 60W but need a location light more powerful than my Amaran H528W. This looks attractive. Cheers, Ray (originally from Wolverhampton).
Hi I come across your channel cuz of this video. I’m a newb with led lamps.. can I ask you a question. Doses the 60’ soft box get the job done? I’m thinking of buying this or Forza and was wondering if I would go for the 90 softbox. (Or both.) But can the light handle the bigger softboxes?
Nice review and comparison with the SL60W. I’m planning to get this light with the S2 and Light Dome Mini II for a small setup. Do you have the S2 bracket on hand by chance? Curious to know if the Light Dome Mini II fits well on it. I saw one reviewer online who had difficulty attaching the Mini II to the S2 bracket. It works with some force but apparently they don’t fit smoothly with ease. Also in your opinion, how does the AD-S60S soft box compare to the Light Dome Mini II? I assume the godox soft box is bigger still even with the smaller mount? And I assume the build quality is better on the Aputure? But what about quality of light? The same or have you found that one produces a softer light? Would be great to hear your overall opinion which soft box you’d pick. I know the AD-S60S is made for the ML60 but I like the versatility of the Aputure and bowens mount. Edit: @9:40 which soft boxes did you use for the lights? Could it be that the SL60W was warmer if you used the light dome mini ii with the gold reflector and cooler on the ML60 if you used the AD-S60S?
Hi. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻 I don’t have the bracket unfortunately. That would have been useful to test. People have complained about the Bowen’s mount on the Godox but personally I’ve never found it to be an issue for me so I’m sure it would be fine but I wouldn’t like to comment as I haven’t used this particular device. They’re roughly the same size softbox. If you have other lights with Bowen’s mount id go for the aputure or something similar just for that versatility but if cost is a factor, I’d stick with the Godox as it’s perfect. There’s very little difference. I used the Godox on the ML60 examples and the Aputure mini 2 on the SL60 examples. You could warm it up a bit using the gold reflector included as you mentioned. Great questions. Thanks for asking. I hope that helps 🙏🏻🤩👌🏻
Thank you 😃🙏🏻 I haven’t done a proper test of the battery life yet but one of those batteries powers my Ninja V monitor for hours so I’d expect a decent amount of time. As soon as I test I’ll let you know 🙏🏻 thanks for watching 🎥
Hey.. thanks for your videos - how did I not find your channel sooner!!! Quick question: which Bowen’s mount accessory would I need to buy in order to use this light with a bigger soft box? (Amazon link would be hopeful! There seems to be so many!) thank you very much!

Hi Suzanne. It all really depends on your style and your settings. You might want something a little more powerful. I hope this helps 🙏🏻🎥 and thank you for watching
@@SamHolland Thank you! I was thinking of getting one for food/product photography and a bit of video work. How big will the difference be with this ML60 to the Godox150? Will you recommend the softbox that is made for this light or can I just use the 95 cm softbox (with a S2 bracket) - or maybe a simple white shoot through umbrella? Thanks a lot in advance 🙏🏻
Hi Susanne. Yeh the Godox 150 will be loads better. I have a video on it on my channel along with some softbox videos. I have some links in the description for softboxes. 🤩 let me know what you do 🤩🙏🏻🎥
Great and informative video! :) Thank you! I have a question for you, What's your mic placement/setup for the video? I have an sl60w and find it difficult to film without catching the fan noise. I've got a rode videomic on top of the camera set to HPF mode. Be good to hear what your setup is and how you combated the noise. :)
Hi I’m pleased you liked the video and thanks for watching 🙏🏻🎥 I have some audio videos on my channel but basically, try and get the nice as close to you as possible and away from the fan noise. Set the camera audio input level low so it peaks around -12dB. Hope that helps. You may need to get a stand and extension cable to get the mic closer
Awesome review Sam. I've just finished watching your other softbox and godox sl-60 reviews which I've been searching for ages to buy the right one, and now you've just given me even more FOMO - dang I hate youtube sometimes! 😂 P.S. loving your lighting set up for this shot, SPOT ON !
@@SamHolland It sure does. I've gone on a mad one for Black Friday / Cyber Monday and right after I spent days researching my purchases, I'm now on the brink of returning some to buy "better" versions lol.
I have a pair of the Neewer 660 advanced panels and they are ok for entry level lighting of course...sometimes I need a spotlight for conferences/speeches to light the person at a podium and the 660 just don't have the narrow beam of course- would this one be much better for that? I don't intend to use it on a movie set or anything-I need a spotlight that won't blind the speaker at the podium of course...this ML60 looks good-can it really throw light in a narrow angle for let's say 15 feet? or I need to place it closer? If I place my Neewer 660 closer then I can get proper exposure but I would prefer to have the light a bit away from the subject...ideas? Thanks!- Using Sony batteries is a bonus for me. I have tons of the large capacity
Hi Erick. Thanks for your question. To be honest, it’s a little hard to say since there are so many variables BUT I would go for something a little more powerful if you can, just to make sure. Here’s an idea ua-cam.com/video/bD5Gqu5Mkmw/v-deo.html But if you needed to power using batteries, you could go for this one which can be bought in a higher power version too and powered by v mount ua-cam.com/video/BFlSjMp3zmk/v-deo.html The ML60 could still work though. Sorry if this has raised more questions 😂 thanks for watching 🙏🏻🎥
@@SamHolland thanks so much man! questions is good. Lighting is the essence of everything to do with cameras! It's not just a matter of turning on any light and pointing it! So much to know...I have lots to learn for sure and there are so many good tools these days. I remember visiting an older but gorgeous TV studio long ago and seeing how big and powerful and expensive the lights mounted on the high ceiling were! So much power it could warm up the whole set! and changing an incandescent bulb would take several guys! oh man...it was hard to buy good lights for personal videos then...now is a bit easier but not all LEDs are created equal. I will watch your great informative videos and make a decision. Thanks so much for the response...Godox makes good products I can afford!
That’s exactly it! Things have come a long way and we’re so lucky but at the same time, it shows you how much power you need sometimes but not all the time. Yes Godox are great for the price 👌🏻
It all depends on your needs but I would say that the ML60 is more versatile. Batteries and portable. BUT it doesn’t have a full sized Bowen’s mount. They do a softbox for it but if you want to use accessories you already own, you’ll have to purchase the adapter. All explained in the video 🙏🏻🎥
Do you know if owners of the SL150 can buy the upgraded fan from Godox? I swapped out mine for a quieter one but, it doesn't cool enough when using a soft box at 100%.

Let me know what happens
Great review! Looks like a really handy portable light. I like the zip on the softbox as well :)
Thank you 🤩🙏🏻 yeah it’s super cool. 😂 and yeh the zip is so handy! It’s the little details isn’t it. Thanks for watching 💪🏻🎥
Thanks mate for this. Godox gave a lot of us hope to make good content without skimping on quality. Nice review bro. Off to the Amazon 😀
You’re so right! 💪🏻 oooo exciting. Let me know what you think to it when it arrives 🤩🎥🙏🏻
Great review Sam.
Cool light!!!!
Thank you 🤩🙏🏻 yeah such a cool light 🎥
Thanks, Scott! 🙏🏻 that’s exciting. Let me know how you get on! 🎥 thanks got the sub 🤩👌🏻
Hello Sam, is the ML60 good outdoor in broad day light?
Hey nice video! The batteries you linked doesn't go to the batteries you use. What brand of batteries are you using?
in order for me to have an idea of how bright it is in full power, could you tell me what the exposure settings would need to be if it is lighting you at full power for this video?
For example
at 2ft with the softbox, 2x diffused with the grid, would your exposure be:
1/50sec, @ F2.8, ISO 100 ?
Light was roughly 2ft away from me with 2 layers of diffusion on all examples. Some with grid, some without. 1/50 shutter. F3.2 iso 400 on the canon eos R
@@SamHolland was it at full power? Just trying to see how it would compare with the Stella CLX8
Also, do you know of any easy way to gell those lights when using the softbox?
Thank you so much for your help
i’m a wedding photographer is this god for weddings at venues wedding receptions ? i’m using aputure but there so dam heavy
Definitely getting one of thse. Any idea how the battery life is on it?
Thanks for the review. I have the SL 60W but need a location light more powerful than my Amaran H528W. This looks attractive. Cheers, Ray (originally from Wolverhampton).
Thanks for watching Ray 🤩🙏🏻🎥 could this be the one??
@@SamHolland Quite likely.
Hi thanks for watching. Yeh the 60cm box is fine. I have a comparison video on the channel if you want to check that out. That might help. 🙏🏻🤩🎥
… also… the bigger boxes will give a slightly softer look but the smaller ones are still fine for UA-cam if you get nice and close
Hi. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
I don’t have the bracket unfortunately.
@@SamHolland thanks for the feedback. Still undecided between the two soft boxes but at least I’m set on which light 😄
At least that’s one decision sorted 😂 thanks again 🙏🏻🎥
How long does the battery last in 100% brightness?
And can you charge the battery thru it's adapter?
New sub great video.... I don’t see the godox soft box in the link you provided
Hi. Thanks for watching and for the sub. I’ll make sure to add it to the description. Thanks for reminding me 🙏🏻
Do you feel its pretty much a silent, portable sl60w?
Definitely! In all the good ways. And with added fx 🎥
Sam! Love your channel! Roughly how long can you shoot with those two batteries?
Thank you 😃🙏🏻
I haven’t done a proper test of the battery life yet but one of those batteries powers my Ninja V monitor for hours so I’d expect a decent amount of time. As soon as I test I’ll let you know 🙏🏻 thanks for watching 🎥
When you compared the two lights, did you use the same softbox at the same distance?
Hey.. thanks for your videos - how did I not find your channel sooner!!! Quick question: which Bowen’s mount accessory would I need to buy in order to use this light with a bigger soft box? (Amazon link would be hopeful! There seems to be so many!) thank you very much!
Hi. Thanks for checking out the channel. 🙏🏻 Sorry for my delayed reply. The mount you want is this... geni.us/N7n2
It’s the S2 style one. Hope this helps. Let me know how you get on 🤩🎥🙏🏻
@@SamHolland thank you so much, mate!
My pleasure 🤩🙏🏻

Hi Mario! Thanks so much for watching and subscribing. I’m pleased you enjoy the videos 🙏🏻🤩🎥
Love the light and color set up you got in this video
Thanks, Armando! 🤩🙏🏻🎥
@@SamHolland def the look im gonna try to go for. If there is a lut you recommend that can help let me know

@@SamHolland Lea I love it.
Hi !
there is something fresh in your movies. I like them very much .
Good luck!
Hi Marcin. Thank you very much 🤩🎥🙏🏻
Hi! Can you power the ML60 with one Sony battery or I have to use both
? Thanks.
Awesome video ! What moc do you use ?
Thank you 🙏🏻 I use the Rode video mic pro plus! I have some videos on audio on the channel 🎥 thanks for watching 💯
Can i use powerbank instead of battery ?
If it has an ac adapter cord
I am loving to watch your videos. Thanks for this one.
Thank you so much 🤩🙏🏻🎥
Can you control ML60 with the SL60 controller? Can you control both lights with 1 control?
Yes you can. Just set the groups/channel on the remote. Super clever 🎥🙏🏻
@@SamHolland I tried doing it and it does not work for some odd reason.
@@SamHolland can you try it out and let me know. Since you have both lights just like me !?
Great review! Will it be great for still photography - or is it more suitable for video?
Hi I’m pleased you liked the video and thanks for watching 🙏🏻🎥
I have some audio videos on my channel but basically, try and get the nice as close to you as possible and away from the fan noise. Set the camera audio input level low so it peaks around -12dB. Hope that helps. You may need to get a stand and extension cable to get the mic closer
@@SamHolland thank you for getting back!!!
I’ll follow that advice now! ☺️
Appreciate it.
My pleasure. Let me know how you get on. I’ve also got some preset packs available on my website if you need that extra boost in quality 🙏🏻🎥
Great video Sam, it's definitely a considerable option!
Thanks Jurne 🙏🏻 yeh it’s so good 🎥🤩
Awesome review Sam. I've just finished watching your other softbox and godox sl-60 reviews which I've been searching for ages to buy the right one, and now you've just given me even more FOMO - dang I hate youtube sometimes! 😂
P.S. loving your lighting set up for this shot, SPOT ON !
Haha I’m sorry about that! New gear and UA-cam has that affect on us doesn’t it 😂 hope you like it. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻🎥
@@SamHolland It sure does. I've gone on a mad one for Black Friday / Cyber Monday and right after I spent days researching my purchases, I'm now on the brink of returning some to buy "better" versions lol.
You test the SL60W and the ML60 against each other but at 55% brightness..? I'd love to know how they compare at maximum brightness
Thanks for this review mate, very informative 🤙🤙
My pleasure Jose. Hope it helped and thanks for watching 🤩🎥🙏🏻
Here’s an idea ua-cam.com/video/bD5Gqu5Mkmw/v-deo.html
But if you needed to power using batteries, you could go for this one which can be bought in a higher power version too and powered by v mount ua-cam.com/video/BFlSjMp3zmk/v-deo.html
The ML60 could still work though.
Godox ML60 VS SL60W?Which light should I choose? and why?
It all depends on your needs but I would say that the ML60 is more versatile. Batteries and portable. BUT it doesn’t have a full sized Bowen’s mount. They do a softbox for it but if you want to use accessories you already own, you’ll have to purchase the adapter. All explained in the video 🙏🏻🎥
Do you know if owners of the SL150 can buy the upgraded fan from Godox? I swapped out mine for a quieter one but, it doesn't cool enough when using a soft box at 100%.
Hi Mark. I’m not sure of that to be honest. Might be worth contacting Godox directly about that one. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻🎥
Im gonna get this today
