So this video has got more dislikes than any one I've ever published before! It's a bit dispiriting after putting a fair bit of time and effort into it. Maybe it was badly timed given how badly GW has done with the new codex, and the understandable negativity and fallout from the lore/rules changes. Perhaps I was a bit more positive than I should have been, but I don't usually find that being super negative is all that helpful for anyone new stumbling across the game/faction if they have chosen to get involved. I'm happy to hear any feedback on the video, but would ask people to save their dislikes etc. for GW if it is them you're annoyed at more so than myself! Actually, no. I've been hunting the normal 2nd hand places (ebay, Facebook marketplace) and there's no noticeable change in price. Scalpers took the new Auric Champions box before the two lgs near me could get them.
Rules can change and adapt, so most people are keeping them for now. If they get squatted at the end of the edition like Beasts of Chaos in AoS and turned into a Heresy exclusive line? Weeellll-

The other mentions and stories are about the Sisters of Silence; awesome psychically null female warriors, and the other half of the Emperor's bodyguard, but not interchangeable with Custodes. If you want to start a Custodes army because of their rules and mechanics, right now is probably not the best time. If you want to buy, assemble and paint Custodes models because you think they look cool (they do), any time is the right time.
It was the bikes for me, it was always the bikes. I tried to resist them, but a guy I knew was trying to move a bunch of boxes because he needed the cash and made me an offer I couldn't refuse...still though, even though painting them can get dull and repetitive, they are an objectively awesome looking army once you get them on the table
@@spicethief4826 mech based orks have been shit for ages, but I always thought they were cool. Now ork mechs are actually looking good in the new codex. Stick with an army long enough and it will (probably) become good at some point.
Is it doing that bad? I've just seen it being tested against the new Orks 3 times on youtube and I think the Custodes won 2 and lost the 3rd to a bit of a mistake, so it was close as well. Granted, that was 3 games against Orks only.

I'm still baffled that HH Contemptor is GREAT kit that also can go guns/fist akimbo, and yet GW still used entry for OOP easy to build kit they don't even sell anymore (there is no Contemptor model in 40k Custodes section)...

There's one big thing to keep in mind, the rules can change, the points can change. At least you still have a book, where as Harlequins got vored by Asuryani and now have zero support aside from "You wanna be all clowns? .. uh sure... but why?" Also bright side, all the Custodes that are getting dropped by the power chasers are going to be ultra cheap online.

I am happy to be wrong here, but did they change the UA-cam algorithm? otherwise any interaction helps him, Yay or Nay. I do digital marketing for a living, i haven't seen any changes. The reaction to what is really an inconsequential change in the lore says far more about the people who hate it than it does about the chapter, the new codex, or most importantly this amazing channel. There is a toxic streak in most fan bases and Warhammer is no exception. Keep making videos and being the Astronomicon of the hobby!

I don't usually like videos (mostly because I like to keep my "liked" playlist full of things that I really do like), but I'm just going to like this video to keep the positivity. To all people angry about their codex being crap, just ask anyone who has been into 40k for 10+ years (or, in my case, over 25 years); every army will have its ups and downs, and some armies are sadly stuck "being bad" for a while.
100% this. saying that, A) downvoting shouldn't hurt the video. Any interaction should actually help it. (unless youtube has changed something , i am happy to be wrong here) - things change all the time, cant' know everything, so if you know otherwise I'm happy to be educated. B) I downvoted the video due to the lack of clarity to new players about how bad the state of the faction is, and how heavily you will most likely need to be leaning on FW kits. Furthermore, how hard resin is to work with for beginners. It isn't the cheapest faction to get into if you want a CHANCE of winning a game. It's overly positive and doens't reflect the current state of the faciton accurately, which as a new player who knows nothing could be a very frustrating experience 3-4 months down the road . So purely as a "snapshot in time" i didn't feel it was as transparent as it should be with new players, so was downvoted.
Guys, if you are chasing meta, choose some top army, if you wanna play casual custodes, they will be ok… Tbh if they will be crap they will get love in summer dataslate

@@Klokan40k auric is the character one, right? wound roll buffs only apply to character models, extremely weak but the worst offender: it makes you want to spam shield captains, whose ability allows you to use battle tactics for free... but the detachment has zero battle tactics!!! why? Because they wrote the thing at the beginning of the edition and sent it to print without bothering if the dataslate change to modifying strats costs would affect it its just lazy and sick, buying this crap is really just stupid. They could make custodian wardens 25 ppmodel and voila the army is the best in the game. And what? It's stil terrible design. Also 4 detachments is just embarrasing. 50 euros for 9 pages of rules. Total scam. I won't play a faction written this badly.

I started printing my first custodes model today, its a Telemon... This video hits hard And I am getting into custodes bc a friend keeps trashing my Orks with his Eldar
I just asked my local 3rd party store to secure me both the new combat patrol and the auric champions box. All the models look great imo and the only thing that would be too much is the 9 allarus. But i can just build 2 as captain and then 7 normal and have a wonderful pool to mix and match squad sizes. From there i'll see what happens to my custode army
I will be starting a new Orkstodes army once I get my hands on the codex. So far I'm thinking of Ghaz, a few Warbosses in Mega-Armor and a boatload of mega-armor nobz, all painted gold of course. Probably get a few Land Raiders to convert into Battlewagons for transporting.
According to 2 of the top 10 40k players worldwide it competes for the worst Codex of the last 5 years. Then again thats only a problem if you play competitively or have regular matches with a meta chaser type of player. If you play in your local friend group its easy to ask around if they want to test some shit army idea and then you have a blast with it
The biggest problem with the DA codex were the datasheets (removal of options of Legends phase-outs) and points (and subsequent balance dataslate), the later being easily fixable. Their detachments are still decent and they can always fall back on Codex Marines units and rules. The Custodes got it far worse, but at least they remain an affordable army with some cool big dong units, unlike AdMech (then again, you should just be 3D printing your stuff).
The Custodes Codex is worse than the Dark Angels Codex, I have a Inner Circle themed Dark Angels list that should be playable because my list is going to be carried by a Land Raider Redeemer and a Storm Raven. I think the Custodes are lacking in anti-tank units in general. The other issue they have is they have limited tanks/transports, the best vehicle they have access to is the Land Raider.
@@user-KR386 i've seen a working "custodes" list today. You just have to take 3 calladius grav tanks + the named inquisitor (forgot his Name) + canis mf'ing rex 1155p in forgeworld and imperium allies sure is a nice "custodes" list xD
I feel for you, dude. I got just over 2k points of Custodes together for the end of 8th Ed. Was looking forward to 9th, but the Ka'Tah rules were horrific (I still managed some decent games without involving them). 10th Index rules were looking very promising, and then 10th Ed Codex seems to have sucked the fun out of the game 😭
I feel for you mate. At least I am only in for a combat patrol box. Collected the (metal) minis 30 yrs ago. Just decided to get back into the hobby. Even visited my local hobby store and was going to start playing again soon. Think I will just paint the box now and go back to reading old lore
As someone who picked up the battle force box AFTER the codex reviews and 'drama'. I still say its a great time to get into custodes! Despite the state of the codex the models didnt get any worse. We got a rare good combat patrol and I get to hoover up a lot of the doomers' old minis for cheap(great way to access FG units). If the rules bother you thar much just skip the codex. Theres a mountain of hobbying I cann do while I wait for the inevitable balance pass. Models always outlast the rules are 😊.
Nothing wrong with the video or analysis, any down votes likely a reaction to the quality of the codex and the 1984esque approach GW have taken to the lore as well as blocking anyone who questions them on these shenanigans. Its a shame as whatever you think of GW, content creators that havnt expressed a view on the events of the last week dont deserve the downvotes. People forget that GW does not equal 40k, you can play 40k without giving GW any money whatsoever and ignore 40k Lore that you dont like (its all just the opinion of a random inquisitor anyway).
I absolutely love the comments on here - I assume people being outraged by the current codex were also constantly enraged throughout 9th and 10th about Custodes being overpowered? Or were they happy to just continue slamming casual players? 😂 Feels very similar when Iron Hands got nerfed to an average faction, but players got outraged that they didnt get guranteed wins anymore... which feels like a questionable mentality for casual games anyway.
Timing my padawan is everything, jokes aside rules are a fickle thing, im sure they will be updated by the end of summer, so if you enjoy the lore and like the models, go for it, they are still fire and death for anything they touch (provided they touch it)
Rightfully so. They nerfed them to hell and back then disrespected everyone with the lore additions and how they handled them on social media. We've seen this song and dance so many times with stuff like Marvel and Star Wars.

@brianhutton2370 its why I actively encourage people starting out with Marines and CSM to grab Heresy models if they going for one of the original 18 Legions. Get models for 2 games.
SERIOUSLY it's 60 Dollard for 5 models AND THE KIT HAS ALL 3 SQUADS IN IT, so you have 5 body poses for the entire lineup. plus they don't even have a dedicated model kit for the centura so you need a 60$ box and then have 4 models left over. That's yhe reason you can take 4 model squads in the datasheets
Fellow Custodes collectors, let's not give Auspex grief and smash the dislike button for this. If anything I'm gonna give our boy a like. He's at least trying to give impartial and informative content on our faction rather than being clickbaity. If we're unhappy about a dumpster fire of a lazy codex and pandering disguised as retconning lets channel it to Games Workshop itself who actually made the changes. Let's not project it onto an excellent content creator that tends to stay neutral.
I feel like this would have been better to wait on this video, not just until the controversy dies down (if it does) but to see if any decent force compositions appear, see if it is really as bad in practice as it seems on paper.
I think just keep playing cus if you love it ,enjoy the game the atmosphere ignore the win or lose :v cus will comback in balance patch next and at this time cus still better than my no hope ultramarine in 9th

This is a great video! This does a good job displaying where to start and helps with the nomenclature of the force and where to get some of the models (forgeworld).
Big buff to shooting for a unit and keeps them from being shot off the board from long range seems like a pretty solid value to me. More for custodians than other imperium factions.
My friends just told me they absolutely dont care if i just use old index rules. They said they would prefer a neck and neck game over just completely stomping me with dev wounds

Having the cake and eating it is a practice that gets called out. Not having the brains to not touch a toxic subject is also not something that should be blamed on others. Especially if your compensation depends on the goodwill of people you cater to.
I think this video is good. Rules are FAR from perfect at the moment. But FAQ are a thing and it won't be the first time GW buffs an army to make it really good. In other words, rules are temporary, plastic crack is forever! (Unless you are a Stormcast Eternal player, RIP)

Great video, the question here is most certainly HOW and not WHY. The how is rather easy, we don’t need tons of units or boxes really as we have high points so are very beginner friendly or at least were untill this codex as it’ll be an army people get them just dump when they realise it can’t do anything major

If you're on a budget, get a second hand land raider and prime it gold. Whole lot of points to get that list ready at 2k and you get lascannons

There's one big thing to keep in mind, the rules can change, the points can change. At least you still have a book, where as Harlequins got vored by Asuryani and now have zero support aside from "You wanna be all clowns? .. uh sure... but why?"

The reaction to what is really an inconsequential change in the lore says far more about the people who hate it than it does about the chapter, the new codex, or most importantly this amazing channel. I don't usually like videos (mostly because I like to keep my "liked" playlist full of things that I really do like), but I'm just going to like this video to keep the positivity. To all people angry about their codex being crap, just ask anyone who has been into 40k for 10+ years (or, in my case, over 25 years); every army will have its ups and downs, and some armies are sadly stuck "being bad" for a while.

A) downvoting shouldn't hurt the video. Any interaction should actually help it. (unless youtube has changed something , i am happy to be wrong here) - things change all the time, cant' know everything, so if you know otherwise I'm happy to be educated.
B) I downvoted the video due to the lack of clarity to new players about how bad the state of the faction is, and how heavily you will most likely need to be leaning on FW kits. Furthermore, how hard resin is to work with for beginners. It isn't the cheapest faction to get into if you want a CHANCE of winning a game. It's overly positive and doens't reflect the current state of the faciton accurately, which as a new player who knows nothing could be a very frustrating experience 3-4 months down the road .
So purely as a "snapshot in time" i didn't feel it was as transparent as it should be with new players, so was downvoted.
I have over 10,000pts in Custodes and am really excited for this codex. Gives me a chance to finally play my Orks again…

its just lazy and sick, buying this crap is really just stupid. They could make custodian wardens 25 ppmodel and voila the army is the best in the game. And what? It's stil terrible design.
Also 4 detachments is just embarrasing. 50 euros for 9 pages of rules. Total scam. I won't play a faction written this badly.

I just asked my local 3rd party store to secure me both the new combat patrol and the auric champions box.
All the models look great imo and the only thing that would be too much is the 9 allarus. But i can just build 2 as captain and then 7 normal and have a wonderful pool to mix and match squad sizes.
From there i'll see what happens to my custode army
I will be starting a new Orkstodes army once I get my hands on the codex. So far I'm thinking of Ghaz, a few Warbosses in Mega-Armor and a boatload of mega-armor nobz, all painted gold of course. Probably get a few Land Raiders to convert into Battlewagons for transporting.

I wonder if custodes got worse codex then dark angels.
According to 2 of the top 10 40k players worldwide it competes for the worst Codex of the last 5 years.
Then again thats only a problem if you play competitively or have regular matches with a meta chaser type of player.
If you play in your local friend group its easy to ask around if they want to test some shit army idea and then you have a blast with it
The biggest problem with the DA codex were the datasheets (removal of options of Legends phase-outs) and points (and subsequent balance dataslate), the later being easily fixable. Their detachments are still decent and they can always fall back on Codex Marines units and rules.
The Custodes got it far worse, but at least they remain an affordable army with some cool big dong units, unlike AdMech (then again, you should just be 3D printing your stuff).
The Custodes Codex is worse than the Dark Angels Codex, I have a Inner Circle themed Dark Angels list that should be playable because my list is going to be carried by a Land Raider Redeemer and a Storm Raven. I think the Custodes are lacking in anti-tank units in general. The other issue they have is they have limited tanks/transports, the best vehicle they have access to is the Land Raider.

I got just over 2k points of Custodes together for the end of 8th Ed.
Was looking forward to 9th, but the Ka'Tah rules were horrific (I still managed some decent games without involving them).
10th Index rules were looking very promising, and then 10th Ed Codex seems to have sucked the fun out of the game 😭

As someone who picked up the battle force box AFTER the codex reviews and 'drama'. I still say its a great time to get into custodes! Despite the state of the codex the models didnt get any worse. We got a rare good combat patrol and I get to hoover up a lot of the doomers' old minis for cheap(great way to access FG units). If the rules bother you thar much just skip the codex. Theres a mountain of hobbying I cann do while I wait for the inevitable balance pass. Models always outlast the rules are 😊.

Nothing wrong with the video or analysis, any down votes likely a reaction to the quality of the codex and the 1984esque approach GW have taken to the lore as well as blocking anyone who questions them on these shenanigans. Its a shame as whatever you think of GW, content creators that havnt expressed a view on the events of the last week dont deserve the downvotes. People forget that GW does not equal 40k, you can play 40k without giving GW any money whatsoever and ignore 40k Lore that you dont like (its all just the opinion of a random inquisitor anyway).

Feels very similar when Iron Hands got nerfed to an average faction, but players got outraged that they didnt get guranteed wins anymore... which feels like a questionable mentality for casual games anyway.
Timing my padawan is everything, jokes aside rules are a fickle thing, im sure they will be updated by the end of summer, so if you enjoy the lore and like the models, go for it, they are still fire and death for anything they touch (provided they touch it)

this is actually great advice. It's a chance to explore an entirely new game with your existing army and still play them.
@brianhutton2370 its why I actively encourage people starting out with Marines and CSM to grab Heresy models if they going for one of the original 18 Legions. Get models for 2 games.

SERIOUSLY it's 60 Dollard for 5 models AND THE KIT HAS ALL 3 SQUADS IN IT, so you have 5 body poses for the entire lineup. plus they don't even have a dedicated model kit for the centura so you need a 60$ box and then have 4 models left over. That's yhe reason you can take 4 model squads in the datasheets

Big buff to shooting for a unit and keeps them from being shot off the board from long range seems like a pretty solid value to me. More for custodians than other imperium factions.
