The resmed firmware is owned by resmed which is why no firmware dumps can be uploaded it’s illegal to do so and will jeopardise the hard work the Airbreak team put into developing the jailbreak. Resmed will hunt anyone down who decides to upload it and they have every right to do so. I've seen this done by a ResMed engineer. I knew this was the case when they offer EPR on the standard autoset. The retail prices you quote are not consistent with what resmed sell them for online. The Bipap machines go for $2800 if my memory serves me correct and a autoset is $1800. I guess they also build into the cost warranty recovery because if you're making the motor ramp up and down fast it's going to add more stress.
While waiting for Philips to send a new or repaired DreamStation ASV unit, my insurance company approved a replacement RESMED, and I am told that I am next in line when a new unit is available. Not sure how long that will be, but good news nevertheless since I only had the Phillips for less than 2 years.

I was wondering why my new Aircurve Vauto had the black casing. At first I thought the company sent my the wrong product and I was pissed but it functions perfectly as a BiPap
Because Resmed basically owns the Cpap market here so they can charge whatever they like and as Nick has said they even put a block on consumers importing machines to get a fairer price.
I did a performed a slightly different version of airbrake where i dumped firmware off a bipap and flashed it onto a cpap and yes it's still compatible. Cheers
Really interesting stuff Nick. Yeah I don’t think I own anything anymore that I haven’t voided the warranty. However I’m still paying this off so I’ll wait a while. Also there must be a way of resetting that date or is this a “firmware upgrade also that has the “date as being the expiration.” Thanks again great stuff as always.
Hey mate, i'm only just learning this stuff but i imagine you could use the airbreak to do anything you like if you're comfortable with programming, running commands in terminal etc. Because my AS10 was old, the airbreak firmware was not compatible so i ended up doing a modified version which included dumping firmware off my bipap and then flashing it onto my auto. This did not change the hours on the clock when i performed it. Cheers brother. Nicko
@@CPAPReviews thanks again Nick. But in response to getting ripped off we get creative. 😈 As the old man used to say there’s more than one way to skin a cat. As far entities screwing us there’s a line at the door 🤣😂 Take care for now Nick ✌️
You ought to be more upset about Aussies getting ripped off outrageously. In the US, an Airsense 10 auto CPAP retails for US$969 and the BiPAP for US$1250. Either the manufacturers are screwing you, or the chemists, or the government (by imposing rules that somehow cause these price differences.)
I'm been furious at this for ages mate! ResMed even put a block on Aussies importing devices from the U.S to avoid the extortion. ResMed even blocked the sale of devices online here in Australia to try stop online discounting. That online ban which is still upheld by our ACCC cpap.review/resmed-online-sales and that is ban is still around although no longer enforced as ResMed now sells direct to consumer through their own e-commerce store. They also heavily discount on that store competing directly with their resellers yet still charging resellers based on the full retail prices. What's even worse is that we manufacturer them here too! So they build it here, ship it all the way over to the U.S and then sell it for 1/3 the price. It's a circus mate. Cheers
@@CPAPReviews Also suspect with the massive health insurance companies in the US paying for machines that has something to do with keeping prices down. In Australia they're free to charge whatever they want.
I assume it's Resmed itself preventing American suppliers from selling directly to them. We pay more in Canada as well (although not as high as Aussies.) Resmed will no longer allow American suppliers to ship us either Resmed machines or masks. (I've been told this by a major American supplier.) We hsve to buy them from Canadian sources & as a result, we pay more.
Yep the insurance providers certainly have a lot to do with it as that is the bulk of their business and also they have to be competitive when competing for the insurance contracts although the only two companies that get them are Philips and ResMed and you know they're both in bed together so i imagine they have some 'agreements' not to compete to hard on those contracts etc. They probably have a good 50-50 split i imagine. Cheers
@@CPAPReviews sounds like I was lucky to purchase my New AirSense 10 Autoset for $1388.00 in Australia, unless the prices are starting to equalize with US prices....
Hi and thank you! My cord/plug adapter isn't making the machine turn on, and I'm assuming that it has something to do with where the cord plugs into the machine (outlet port?) bc I have tried 3 different cords and different outlets and nothing makes it turn on. Does anyone have this problem? The light flickers for a second at best....
Is VENTMED A copy OF RESMED, or does VENTMED manufacture RESMED machines. Ie VENTMED Dream Space DS-6 CPAP, DS- 7 BIPAP, DS-8 BIPAP AUTO (around US$400 from China). The plastic and switches are like Resmed machines and the screen is the same. I've been using it for last three months with the Philips mask (which cost in Australia half the price of the BIPAP machine. The Bipap machine comes with a full face mask, but it is inferior to the Philips).
Hi Nicko, I do have mine unlocked, actually I sent email to GitHub developer that said: go and get it at no cost, I have no use to id, if it will help you , just get it with my daughter. He refused any payment, asked to pay it forward helping others. My question is, he unlocked the firmware 306 but I don't believe all modes are working properly, just ASV Auto seam to work. Have you tested all modes? Are you able to run multiple modes with SD card inserted in? The Airsense 10 reboots on its own if I try to use in any mode except ASV Auto. Can you share patched FW?
Hi Niko... Nice work..... would love to see that "how to" follow vid mentioned... luv ur work.... a quick question.. Did you have the SX567-0401 version of the firmware on your AS10 before starting? I would love to try it, but my old machine is 0306.... If your firmware was older than 0401, you mind sharing how you addressed issue from link "The script might fail if the hashes of your extracted firmware do not match the one that it expects (currently SX567-0401). If you have a different version, please contact us for how to proceed."??? Thanks Mate!!
G'day legend, yeah i will do a vid. Yes my firmware was old so need to do a few work arounds to dump / flash the new firmware. I just need to be a bit careful as ResMed will be very angry at this sort of a vid. Cheers
I also have copd & oxygen is fitted to my resmed air curve 10. I have terrible dry mouth & what feels like a film on my teeth. What should I do? Thanks
Looked into this projects and unfortunately it requires specific firmware number to be patched as well as teardown of the machine and special adapters. The guys that've tried it say not all the setting are in fact enabled and furthermore the original developers seemed to have abandoned the project.
G'day, what i did was just dump the firmware off an Aircurve and flash it onto an AirSense. It was pretty easy but you do have to source a few components to connect up to the PCB board to dump/flash the firmware. Cheers
@@CPAPReviews Thanks...the only discussion I could find was in the CPAPtalk forum. They mentioned the developers Github that does the breakdown but that left more questions on where to source a patched or modded firmware than answers, mostly because they haven't updated or expanded on the project. If you have a file you could share it would save alot of time trying to get an actual unit to source it from. Obviously at my own risk.
The huge price differences are a concern. In the smartphone analogy you gave you'd expect to pay more for a better phone with a better camera or screen or whatever. As a consumer you CHOOSE which phone you want and pay the price if you agree to it. With PAP machines you are prescribed a machine, there is no "choice" being made. Essentially people with certain health conditions pay more for a device to help them. Insurance may cover the cost or may not. Given the hardware is identical the huge price differences are not justifiable. It's not the same as different medical conditions requiring different treatments. The "treatment" from a PAP machine is identical from the patients perspective. As you have said in the past Nick the algorithms aren't that great anyhow, there is a lot of room for improvement.
I had to switcht a bipap, the last time I had the stats checked, (last month) The part where I forget to breath while sleeping is getting worse. They said I may need to upgrade to a another machine that will force a breath if I go too long with out breathing?
Hi, I am from melbourne. I have an aircurve 10 asv. It suddenly started making a sound. Can you help me in the right direction on how I can deal with this.
G'day, Nick; Thank you for all you do. Good video, thanks much. How can we contact you? I have an AirSense 10 & need some advice / info. Have a GREAT day, Neighbor!
Attn RESMED TEAM - This is "UN AUSTRALIAN" charging such an exorbitant price, just for some silly soft ware. We r not talking about any high end artificial intelligence stuff. Pls remember, most patients will be spending their hard earned money, so they can "BREATH" while they sleep. Hope you guys can sleep well with all this breathing money. One day we all STOP breathing and no machines or better say money can help us to breath. Thank you Nick for this investigative journalism. U reminded me about the movie "All the President's Men". Pls keep up your brilliant job. Now this is what we call Australian way.
As a professional firmware developer who also owns an Airsense 10 I can categorically state that the firmware powering these devices is VERY basic and would have been a mere tiny fraction of the overall machine development cost.
@@CPAPReviews Hi Nick. Don't know if you've done a vid on this but did you know also that Philips locked out the ability for users to read their own SD cards with DS2?? So no OSCAR or similar which many people have come to depend on as a necessity to help maximise the efficacy of their therapies...
Hey mate, so it depends how you jailbrake it. because my firmware was a bit older i just dumped the firmware from my Aircurve and then flashed it onto my Autoset basically turning my autoset into an Aircurve. I believe the original airbreak turns your device into an ASV
Fella I'm looking to buy a new bipap but nup definitely not paying 8k they're bloody dreaming I work too hard for my money. Can I pay you to do this upgrade for me? Happy to pay you good cash to avoid giving more money to the big pharma dogs.
I asked ResMed this prior to COVID and was only told the machine runs for a bit at low flow to remove moisture. They never addressed how to clean/sanitize the internal tubing/parts surfaces.
It's a great question mate and i'm definitely doing a video on it. There's a bit about it in the clinical guide of the airsense 11 - cpap.review/airsense-11-clinical-guide . Cheers
Great for you. In which country do you live? Nick, and myself, live in Australia and our dollar value affects the cost. If you are in USA then that equals about $909AUD which actually is a very good price in Australia. I have just looked at the store I bought my Airsense 10 at and they sell it for $1695AUD and all varieties of the device are sold out.
@@trekketoo. I also find that I prefer the Resmed I have now over the Philips I had previously. Even before the recall I used the Philips machine purely because I knew I had to, where as now I actually enjoy using the Resmed and I sleep better.
I would like to help people do this, I can patch to them for free, here in Brazil ST-A Airsense cost equivalent to 17-20 minimum salary and it is not covered my insurance. Many people cannot use cpap due high expiratory pressure or central apneas as well cannot effort buy bipap.
While the firmware no doubt cost a lot to develop, it is no doubt 95% plus the same between the models... and the fact some guy hacked it to do bipap says that someone with the source code and knowing what they are doing could probably engineer the difference in some weeks of work.
Here's the difference. If you want it and can afford it great buy it. With medical conditions its not like you are making a choice to buy an ASV machine, if you need one you need one. It's the difference between wants and needs.
Can I talk to Jamal? I have an Airsense 10 Autoset that was hacked either by my DME, or (I really suspect) some big pharma asshat or perhaps a mercenary to blow hard enough to wake me up. I could send the motherboard and have him reinstall the proper software. Anyone out there know Jamal?
Aussies are getting ripped off. I got a brand new Resmed Airsense 10 with heated tube, cradle mask, carry bag etc etc for around AUD$1000 here in Thailand a few weeks ago.

I was wondering why my new Aircurve Vauto had the black casing. At first I thought the company sent my the wrong product and I was pissed but it functions perfectly as a BiPap
Wow, that's very interesting! Thanks for sharing :)
My ResMed Air Sense 10 was right at $1,000
I paid $99 after insurance
Why so expensive down there?
Because Resmed basically owns the Cpap market here so they can charge whatever they like and as Nick has said they even put a block on consumers importing machines to get a fairer price.
i have been on CPAP since 1995!! my 3rd machine is an older(about 4yrs) Dream Station Auto!!! my p95==18!! my API
Thanks mate, always with great info, this is so cool!
Riiiiight lol. I didn't spend 5 years in evil medical school to be called "Mister" Thank you very much.
hahahaha, love it!
Is it still compatible with Sleep HQ and Oscar?
I had no idea that the Resmed Aircurve 10 V Auto that the VA gave me for free was worth so much. I’ll treat it a little better.
Nice one mate :)
I have an Autoset for Her I'd love to try this on. I use an Aircurve Vauto as my main machine.
WOW Thank you!
Welcome mate, glad you liked it. Nicko
That's interesting that the bi-pap you have is grey. Whilst my machine is black just like the cpap machine.
might be a different model bi-pap mate. There's a few of them and some are black. Cheers
You should add links into description, too. Not all handheld devices display screen overlays.
There's already links in the description. I always add them. Cheers
Do a tutorial for education purposes :)
Cheers
@@CPAPReviews Have you made a video yet? I'm not sure if I have missed it
I also have copd & oxygen is fitted to my resmed air curve 10.
@@CPAPReviews Great job mate! Please share some info.
Do I have to upload into AirSense any specifc Aircurve firmware version or it doesn't matter ?
Was wandering if you have the tutorial to do the air break?
Did you ever post the how to video?
So what is the difrent then I have the air since from the hospital at home afther some sleep test
Hi,
I am from melbourne. I have an aircurve 10 asv. It suddenly started making a sound. Can you help me in the right direction on how I can deal with this.
G'day, Nick;
Thank you for all you do.
Good video, thanks much.
How can we contact you?
I have an AirSense 10 & need some advice / info.
Have a GREAT day, Neighbor!
Link to firmware flash please
I did a modified version of the original hack at www.airbreak.dev . I have a Macbook so need to use a few work arounds. Cheers
@@CPAPReviews also have a MacBook. Can you provide more details on how you flash yours?
Do you know how to do that firmware upgrade?
My answer before viewing the rest of the video is..... it's the amount your insurance company is willing to pay for the device?
World of a difference from a therapy perspective.
Mate i really appreciate the verification. Thank you! Nick 🍻
Is there a firmware to share the internet to my holehouse ..turn it into a hotspot ?
Does jailbroken device have cpap auto mode with epr? Any way to finnd asv jail break?
Hey mate, so it depends how you jailbrake it. because my firmware was a bit older i just dumped the firmware from my Aircurve and then flashed it onto my Autoset basically turning my autoset into an Aircurve. I believe the original airbreak turns your device into an ASV
Fella I'm looking to buy a new bipap but nup definitely not paying 8k they're bloody dreaming I work too hard for my money. Can I pay you to do this upgrade for me? Happy to pay you good cash to avoid giving more money to the big pharma dogs.
I’d really love to have access to a tutorial or any reference documents or software. I want to hack mine. It’s out of warranty already.
What about the Philips machines? I noticed the blowers are different in Philips machines!
~mumble, mumble, mumble~... kicks cancer causing expensive machine lying on floor next to waste bin
Thank you
Sorry off Topic but wondering How does one clean the inside of the machine itself especially with Covid around these days?
I asked ResMed this prior to COVID and was only told the machine runs for a bit at low flow to remove moisture. They never addressed how to clean/sanitize the internal tubing/parts surfaces.
@@Resist4 Damn, so what are we supposed to do? I don't think Soclean or any other cleaner gets the inside of the machine right.
It's a great question mate and i'm definitely doing a video on it. There's a bit about it in the clinical guide of the airsense 11 - cpap.review/airsense-11-clinical-guide . Cheers
Show it!!! Actually it wont help me as I have a BMC machine but, still very interesting.
Is the programmer available?!
I just bought a resmed airsense 10 for $670
Great for you.
@@l214laus I'm finding I like the resmed better too. Seems to be easier to clean.
Yeah i was quoting Aussie retail prices. There will be range of prices in different countries and websites. Cheers
@@CPAPReviews I love your videos and the knowledge you share. Thank you 😊
@@trekketoo. I also find that I prefer the Resmed I have now over the Philips I had previously. Even before the recall I used the Philips machine purely because I knew I had to, where as now I actually enjoy using the Resmed and I sleep better.
Love to see a jail break video!!
Reminds me of Tesla. The "Full Self Driving" capability costs $15,000 US. Same car.
Here's the difference. If you want it and can afford it great buy it. With medical conditions its not like you are making a choice to buy an ASV machine, if you need one you need one. It's the difference between wants and needs.
can anyone share with me a dump of their aircurve vauto firmware?
Can I talk to Jamal? I have an Airsense 10 Autoset that was hacked either by my DME, or (I really suspect) some big pharma asshat or perhaps a mercenary to blow hard enough to wake me up. I could send the motherboard and have him reinstall the proper software. Anyone out there know Jamal?
Mate!!!! Get the tutorial happening so we can allllll get bang for our bucks!!! Resmed can go stick it
$8000..? I have a Resmed Auto and it's about $1500
Aussies are getting ripped off. I got a brand new Resmed Airsense 10 with heated tube, cradle mask, carry bag etc etc for around AUD$1000 here in Thailand a few weeks ago.
Yeah mate, we always do! It sucks. ResMed also tries very hard to block CPAP machines from being imported etc. Bastards!
@@CPAPReviews You will be surprised how much we are getting charged here in Singapore...

Just wow, talk about fleecing consumers. It would have better if ResMed just sold the BiPap firmware as an upgrade.
Hey Dan, that's what happens when you have a duopoly in any industry. The consumers end up getting screwed. Cheers mate. Nicko
Not to be "that guy" but if your messing with firmware on the device beware of lawsuits from Resmed. I believe there have been lawsuits over things like jail breaking devices in the past.
They are so dirty.... such a dirty company. More dirty that Phillips? Nah.... but a different kind of DIRTY!
@@BriansRCStuff. Yeah it appears to be that way. Which is why if my machine just happens to have a few more functions than it started with I'll be keeping it low key.
I’ve had my AirSense 10 around 4 years, unfortunately my insurance owns it but I’m still thinking about doing the upgrade because I’d rather have it function like a BiPap machine. Something my insurance company won’t pay for.
@@Resist4. I've only ever used a Bi-pap but I can absolutely see why you would want that functionality if you didn't have it. I would assume as long as you don't brick the device in the process your insurance probably won't notice the change but im not sure how the reporting software works or what your user agreement with the insurance company looks like.
@@huntsbychainsaw5986 so I looked at the Airbreak site and while I'm very mechanically inclined, it just looks like too much work for me. I wish ResMed would offer the software upgrade to current AirSense 10 users. I'd pay half the difference of the 10 and 11. Or maybe the Airbreak people can do it for a price.
But yeah, I really want a BiPac because I've had numerous times where it just seemed like I couldn't exhale enough air and felt like positive pressure breathing (from my military aircraft days), it's too much work.
$6,000 not 5
Dear god! $8000??? Here in Ontario, Canada the AirSense 10 FH is only $215 CAD ($860 before government healthcare) and the AirCurve 10 V Auto is $280 CAD ($1120 before govt healthcare). That is absolute extortion
Yeah it's pretty crazy! Aussies been getting played for years and ResMed considers itself and 'Aussie company'. Pretty pathetic. Glad to see there's some good rebates from your healthcare. Cheers
