    Too many years as a pilot has left me with some hearing issues that come into play when using your method of finding my focal point. I used a decibel app on my phone and placed it near the site I was lasering. I could watch the decibel levels change as I adjusted the height. Worked like a charm. I’d like to use the twin red light lasers to assist focus but I haven’t figured out how to turn them on.

      Very clever! Nice problem solving! Check under the lens while looking up at it from below there's usually a little plastic toggle switch on the galvo head housing.

    So, I decided to pull out the lens that came on my laser, just to make sure it is a 200mm lens as it is supposed to be. I grabbed the lowest part of the lens, and that started unscrewing easily enough. But what came off was some sort of thin retaining ring of some sort. Not the lens itself. So while I am looking at this thing in my hand, out drops a lens that hits the metal plate of the laser. Didn't shatter it, and no damage that I can see, but darn. Wasn't expecting THAT to happen! And come to find out there is a rubber o-ring seal, that came partially out of the track. So guess I can't stop now! I tried unscrewing what I thought would just be the lens in the sleeve, but that wasn't budging. I was, however, able to get the sleeve out of the galvo, with lens inside, so in order to put that lens that fell out back in place, I was pretty much committed to remove what I could so I could work on it more easily.
    So here is the thing. Does that lens HAVE to go in one way rather than the other? Is there an upside down rather than rightside up? I figured I had a 50/50 chance of getting it right, so what the heck. Got the o-ring in the groove, and the lens back in place so I could screw the retaining ring back on. Inspected it with a flash light and appeared to be some dust on the inside. So off it came again, so I could use my air can (for my camera lenses) to blow off the dust, and lightly brushed it with a microfiber towel.
    While all this was going on, I put the rubber lens cap back on, so I wouldn't be putting my fingers onto the lens while fiddling with it. Went over to the house to bring my laptop over so I could make sure I didn't screw something up with all this going on. Yeah, I am sure you know what is coming. Set up a test image, and fired the red laser. Hmm. Nothing. Maybe I had the focus out of whack? Nope, that didn't change anything. Well heck, fire the main laser! Still nothing. But what was that burning smell? Aarrghh, that was the lens cap getting a hole melted through it. Damn... So I pulled off the lens cap and tried it again.
    Darn, that red laser still didn't look right. And neither did that main laser. Matter of fact, it wasn't really engraving into the test metal at all. Just a bright line, that was barely bright. Well, come to find out, when I burned through the rubber lens cap, it left a light residue on the lens itself. I lightly wiped it clean with the microfiber again, and by now thinking I had somehow already ruined my brand new laser, ran a test again, thinking I was wasting my time now.
    Luckily that seemed to fix the problem. Red laser outline was nice and sharp, and firing the burner laser cut the image into the test metal like it was supposed to do.
    So a couple of questions: (1) Do I just need to put more muscle into screwing that lens out of that sleeve? I sure as heck don't want to make matters worse by breaking something. And (2), about that lens that fell out. Is there a right way and a wrong way for it to go back into place on that lens? I couldn't see anything obvious to indicate that by looking at it. I do have two other lenses I could take apart, if necessary, but obviously I am reluctant to do that if I don't need to. Obviously the laser is quite sensitive to contamination on the lens itself.
    And again, any way around having to provide a phone number to sign up on your discord server?

    • @LaserEverything
      @LaserEverything  2 роки тому

      1. Yeah potentially. The entire lens and it's housing should come out of the galvo head. I don't know how they got it in there so tight.
      2. F-Theta scan lenses are grouped lenses made from multiple glass elements. Depending on the element that fell out it could either have or not have a proper orientation. Usually the final element (the one closest to the table) does not have a specific orientation optically. Some manufacturers put the anti-reflection coatings on the final element while some put it on a glass shield that shields the element from damange. Obviously we want that pointing out, not in, but I'm not sure if I could even tell you what to look for as far as making that determination. I guess if it aint broke don't fix it.
      3. Since the discord community is an official "Discord Community" we have to have the highest level anti-bot/spam measures in place so I don't currently know a way around that requirement. There are temporary phone number services online you could try one of those.

    • @corvetteflorida
      @corvetteflorida 2 роки тому

      @@LaserEverything Thanks for the reply.
      Yeah, it was the glass element closest to the table that fell out. Why it didn't shatter or crack hitting that aluminum platform is probably a miracle. Sure got me all flustered, hence leaving the rubber cap on trying to fire the laser and burning through it. Duh.....
      I approached CloudRay about this and they asked me to create a video to show them what I am talking about. I am pretty sure UA-cam doesn't allow embedded URLs, but if interested, this clue will get you to my video -> v=bQRwjZ4auGM
      Been meaning to get back over to test the laser some more to see if anything seems amiss, but the past few days have had higher priorities. The wife has health issues and we have been bouncing around between emergency rooms and the oncology center, or she just doesn't feel well and I want to stay close by. Truth be known, I wish I hadn't allowed her to talk me into getting this laser right now. :(
      Anyway, I sent CloudRay the link to the video and am approaching this as being a defective lens/galvo adapter. I bought a couple of extra lenses, but I can't use them because of that 200mm lens stuck in the adapter. I am sure I can take the whole shebang out of the galvo and put it on the workbench, and one way or another separate them, but no promises there won't be some resultant damage. I have found that when removing filters from camera lenses, you can actually squeeze the filter ring TOO hard and it makes it more difficult to unscrew the filter as it goes egg shaped on you. Consequently, I put a very small dab of gun grease on the threads now, and that problem just went away.
      If CloudRay balks at replacing the lens/adapter as a warranty item, I may try to get them to compromise by giving me free shipping and I'll just buy another one. Likely there is dust inside my old lens now anyway, and a replacement lens only costs $50 direct from them.
      I'll see what I can do about signing up on the discord server. Seems more and more places are requiring codes being sent via text on the cell phone lately, so I may just be fighting a losing battle against the inevitable.

      It has less to do with your machine model number and more to do with your laser source model number. You need to find out if it's a Raycus, Max, or JPT. If you Google that model number you should be able to figure it out.

  • @amcsv650s

    Just purchased a 50x50 lens so I will be using this method to get it working properly. Weirdly my fiber laser came with a 115x115 lens according to the lens label but the manufacturer set the machine up to work with a 110x110. I have never been satisfied with the performance of my 30W laser and I am beginning to think that the mismatched lens is the culprit. I have a feeling that the manufacturer had this odd lens laying around and decided to skimp out instead of using a proper 110x110 lens.

    • @LaserEverything
      @LaserEverything  Рік тому

      It's not uncommon to see that slightly different lens size. Lens sizes are generally the same when being manufactured, but the small differences can keep them close enough to match spec for a 110 focal distance. Not sure on the cause or reason as to why it ends up in that place, but we do see it from time to time. 110 is a pretty good general all round lens size (or thereabouts), but if you need more kick, a 50 or 70 will certainly give more mileage for the same power source. More punch for sure!

      95% of what we cover in EZCAD2 is compatible with EZCAD3. One of the many downfalls of Ezcad is it's window sizing. You SHOULD be able to drag it out into the main work area to undock the window. If not you may need a bigger monitor (or a TV would work) to get the screen to expand enough to grab it. Super annoying. Highly recommend you look into upgrading to LightBurn, we have an entire free course on the subject. Much easier to use.

    Hi I changed my lens and I adjust the red point light as you explain in this video, so then if I mark a shape and then I light it, the red light perfectly fix the shape. However, when i don't light the shape, the pointer is not centered; in other words, if I would like to mark a circle around a point, i can't just use the red light pointer as the center of my cricle. Is there a way to fix that? Thanks and congrats for your videos, they're so helpful!!!

    Thank you for such a great video. One problem I am having is I am setting up a 150x150 lens. Have all the distortion taken out and it makes nice straight lines. I made a 120x120 box while setting up everything just to make checking the straightness of the lines easier for me. Problem I have is that the box actually measures 122.5 on the x axis and 131.5 on the y axis. I know it has something to do with the scaling settings in the configuration. But every time I've tried to correct this things go south, can never get it to be a perfect square. Negate is NOT checked on either galvo. If I go into the scaling drop down menu and enter the desired marking and actual marking settings for galvo 1. Then do the same thing for galvo 2. The parameters that I enter in galvo 1 are overwritten by what I enter in galvo 2. What the hell am I doing wrong?

    • @LaserEverything
      @LaserEverything  3 роки тому +2

      Well the first thing I'd say is that you want to be making your scale adjustments FIRST and your warp adjustments second. Adjusting your scale after setting your warp adjustments is always going to mess with your warp. Get the scale as close as you can, then the warp, then scale, then warp again. You'll have a more accurate finished product.
      As far as the overwriting issues go it's really hard for me to tell without looking at it. Feel free to post a few screenshots or a short screen capture to the discord and I'd be happy to take a look for you. There's a link in the description and we can get that sorted. @LaserEverything  Місяць тому

      In the case of ezcad, you would copy/paste the existing ezcad config, and relabel it to the new lens size, and then update the field settings and import the proper library conversion for that lens size.
      For lightburn, can just go to the device tab, duplicate the 110 device as a 220 with a new label, and it will prompt you to update the field size if needed.
      For parameter settings, we have copies of those on our website to download.

      The lens should have either the lens size or approximate focal distance printed on it which we would be able to help you out with if you post a picture in the discord or Facebook group. For the laser wattage there isn't usually much you can do except open the case and inspect the laser source. Most sources typically have a sticker that lists the model number which we could then use to tell you what your laser power would be.

These are pretty small test prints so i'm not sure if its out of level inside somewhere, the workspace, or field warp adjustments. What should i check first? The first place I'd look with this issue is actually the galvo scan head. Get a level and check the scan head, then check the bed. They should match. They do NOT need to be level with the ground, just level with one another. If they are not you should be able to loosen the bolts on the scan head at the neck and adjust accordingly.

      Well I want to engrave everything, but obviously I want to start the revenue stream as soon as possible. Is metal engraving more lucrative than other materials? Is CO2 capable of engraving metals? I am under the impression that CO2 can engrave metals but not as good or efficient as fiber laser. Is that the case?

    • @LaserEverything
      @LaserEverything  2 роки тому +1

      CO2 can only remove coatings from metals like anodizing or powder coat that can't actually mark the metal itself. I'd say they're equally lucrative but they definitely serve different functions. I think overall more people want CO2 stuff done, but also less people have fibers and can offer that service which adds value. It really just depends on what you want to learn and do first. CO2 lasers are definitely more beginner friendly if you've never used the laser before. The software is better and the optics make more sense, they also require more maintenance. There's pros and cons to both. I would just go with what you personally want to do the most and what you think you'll have more fun with so that you start off on the right foot that way.

    Great video, I have a question. how to know my machine PWM?

    • @LaserEverything
      @LaserEverything  7 місяців тому

      This is typically specific to the laser source itself inside the machine. Among each brand there can be similar models that have different frequency ranges, so you'll either need a spec sheet/hardware list or may need to open your side panel of the machine to confirm your laser source model. From there, you can use that info to validate your frequency by using the spec sheets supplied by the manufacturer of the source. We have a lot of them linked in our resources on our website to help make that easier. You can also ask the machine manufacturer you bought it from, but if they mix parts or didn't keep track of components, you may need to use the methods we mentioned previously to have an accurate set of values.

    Just got my fiber laser and already ezcad can't find dog! bummed, any ideas whats happening here. Did I buy some chinese junk? Is it the 64k operating system? Everything seams to be 32K. Very nice video, but would like this laser to work so I can learn some more from you.

      Are you using windows 10/11? If so make sure you are using the LMC64 driver and not one of the others or it won't work. Machine has to be plugged into the PC and turned on in order for the software to function.

      That driver seems to be hard to find. Maybe I'm not going about it the right way. Thinking about buying the software so i can get direct support. Other than relying on this company's copy. I have a 60w CO2 laser, this is the first time I went with someone not around me as a distributor. I learned my lesson, took a risk hopefully I can make this thing work.
