      Check your F3 Param there's check boxes to invert each galvo near the distortion correction settings. One invert will flip x the other y. just select the right one and you'll be good to go.

    Hi! Excellent explanation as always. I've been running into some alignment issues with my larger 150mm lens and I'm going to have a shot at using the corfile. I had previously set it up using the field parameters, and it was "pretty darn good". However, I was attempting a double-sided PCB, where you mark and cut one side then flip it over, and the alignment wasn't spot on. I solved it by applying my own distortion correction beforehand (Rhino has a feature called "cage edit", where you can apply a grid of points over an object and then drag them to distort), but I'll need to take a look at the corfile. However, I have one major doubt with it, maybe you can clarify. If, when you're measuring the coordinates of each marked point, you're assuming that points 2,4,6,8 lie on their respective axes, then you're never going to be able to correct for any skew distortion. You could take that whole pattern, skew it slightly, and you would still have exactly the same measurements. Does that make sense? The only way to actually measure the points would be a travelling microscope, or a webcam on a mill/router, which is beyond what I can do!

    Hey Alex, thank you for all your videos especially for the launch of Lightburn Galvo. I'm really excited to the correction with corfile, but I have one point I'm struggeling with: How do I set the lens size in the corfile settings? Or is afterwards the workspace different to the e.g. 175mm lens? Also to see in your video (Fieldsize: 185.87mm). Thanks for your additional explanation.

    • @LaserEverything
      @LaserEverything  2 роки тому +2

      Yeah Roman we actually mention that in the video. The corfile will change the lens size based on the lens size it calculates. This is your true field size. There's no need to make any adjustments. The software is correct.

    • @LaserEverything
      @LaserEverything  2 роки тому

      There's always going to be distortion when projecting a square workspace through an circular lens. The best you can do is reattempt your measurements to see if you can find improvements. Make sure you're using the "change image" function so your landmark markings match what's on the screen or you'll be entering data for the wrong points. It's very important everything matches.

    • @LaserEverything
      @LaserEverything  11 місяців тому

      Thank you! And absolutely, this translates to lightburn 100%. The tool itself is unfortunately ezcad (and ezcad driver) only, but the saved output file can be brought back to lightburn, and applied in the device settings for the machine in lightburn you setup with that lens size. It should import and correct for the distortion, skew, all that, but also account for which axis is seen as X, and if either of the axis' are reversed (as long as you do the image alignment step with corfile and the shapes). This can all be done manually if ezcad isn't an option, but it certainly consolidates the steps and reduces the time needed to get solid quality and proper setup done.

The 175x175 lens, I have ran 3 times, and the measurements are always off by a large margin for the final measurement. I believe the scaling is incorrect, however the bulge, skew, and trap are fine. I'd like to manually change the scale, but I dont know the values of the Bulge, etc.

      I think I responded to this elsewhere on the channel for ya but I can't remember - but no, unfortunately you can not extract values from corfiles the way things are right now. Hopefully that's something that's included when LightBurn supports native lens corrections in their software but for now we're stuck with corfiles which seem to save data encrypted.
      The only other option is to manually correct all lens correction fields :/

      The lens size printed on your lens is an approximation. Lens calibration shows the true size of the lens. It's engraving upside down because you didn't use the change image feature when measuring your points. Redo your calibration and make sure you use change image when prompted so that the symbols are in the correct orientation.

    • @LaserEverything
      @LaserEverything  6 місяців тому

      When you operate a galvo laser in lightburn, it uses its own driver for that software package. You would need to swap drivers back to the ezcad driver in order to use corfile. Check out our lightburn for galvo crash course playlist on the channel, it walks through it in steps and will help with the process if you want to give that a go. The error you're getting is just from being unable to connect due to the driver though, so quick fix! If you have a completed corfile, you can also just import it into lightburn in the device settings menu, unless its a new lens or something. That menu also has the red dot adjustment for the alignment.

      Not that I have seen. I'd try to switch to metric if you can handle the transition. 99% of laser related stuff is done in metric and it offers a bit more precision over all. I'd rather do conversions for artwork and associated files than for the laser config.

    • @LaserEverything
      @LaserEverything  11 місяців тому

      It's hard to give one correct answer for that, it really depends on the metal, your lens, and your laser wattage/source. If you go to the channel homepage and search for "steel" or "aluminum" in the search bar of the profile, it should pull up a list for your material mostly to help with that more specifically. We share settings for every project we share on the channel in the video we do them in. Would recommend joining one of the linked communities in the description so the support team and community can help on a support thread.

    Alex. Followed your example on my Cloudray 50 and all went well. Lens is a 150 and I did indeed have to rotate the reference grid to match my lazed grid. Now. However, now the output burn is inverted top to bottom and left to right. Looking at my f3 values the (and I don't remember the exact name of the boxes) the invert box is checked for both axis. I cleared the the check marks for both and hit the OK button. It always comes back to checked and my output remains inverted. Made for an ugly 1911 slide but my bad. Any Idea how to clear this issue.

    • @LaserEverything
      @LaserEverything  2 роки тому

      Double check the step where you have to fix the reference grid. Pay special attention to the small dash in the center, not just the shapes in the corners. The shapes may be in the correct spot but if the long side or shot side of the dash in the center is swapped it will effect your inverted axis. Any changes you try to make to field distortion settings manually while you have a corfile selected will be overwritten by the corfile which is why your changes aren't saving.

    Is this process the same or similar in Lightburn I do not see that I have ezcad installed on my system?

    • @LaserEverything
      @LaserEverything  9 місяців тому

      Via lightburn, you have to do the corrections manually since they don't have a designated utility to do the correction based on measurement. This means making an adjustment, testing, and adjusting more or less based on the result, make a square, test, adjust, square, test adjust, until you get the skew correct, edges straight and square, and then scale for size accuracy. It can be tedious and time consuming, which is why we prefer this method with ezcad. If you don't have a copy of ezcad, you can either ask your manufacturer for a copy if you trust them, and then follow the earlier guide episodes to swap temporarily to run the utility and export a corfile, or we have trusted copies on the laser everything website too that have corfile and the drivers included. DONT download ezcad from random websites. Because its old and out of date software, it flags antivirus softwares, and so it becomes a prime target for naughty people to bundle in bad stuff and host a bad copy of it. Get it from somewhere you trust.

    Hey Alex, I need to rotate my workspace 90° so I switched my x from galvo 2 to galvo 1 and hit negate which did what I needed it to do but then when I choose to use my corfile it switches the x axis back to galvo 2 and re rotating my sorjspace back to its original position.
    In the vid you said it doesn't read any galvo inversions so I did the corfiles with my params with x on galvo 2.
    Do I have to set the x to galvo 1 and then do my corfile?

      No stupid questions. Complete your corfile as usual. On the first page of your F3 Param in the Field settings you will see the options for Offset X, Offset Y and Angle. Simply set your Angle value to 90 degrees (or 270 degrees, depending on what's needed) and it will accomplish the same goal without fighting with the corfile settings or messing with the galvo mirrors.

      The final box tests usually run wider than your actual lens size. For example if you do the final box test for a 110 lens but 130 mm square is not straight You don't need to worry about that. It's not going to correct outside of the proper lens size.

      Shouldn't make a difference, just used to make sure the test box actually fits inside your usable lens area. Don't test the lens using the test grid inside corfile. I've found it to be extremely inaccurate. Instead save your corfile, load it into ezcad and attempt to mark some different sized boxes once the corfile has been applied and see if that gives better results. That's what happens for me a lot.

    • @LaserEverything
      @LaserEverything  11 місяців тому

      Galvo 1 vs galvo 2 is only selecting which axis is acting as the X axis, so its the same process. The key thing when you do the corfile, is make sure the shapes and orientation match up 100% and its not getting flipped or inverted, because thats how corfile determines which axis is acting as X, and which direction is which on the servos for those mirrors. If they are turned, flipped, inverted, when using that corfile in software, things may burn in reverse, upside down, turned, all kinds of crazyness, but in short, all leads back to that main step of matching up the shape and orientation with the test burn.

    Today i tuned my F210 140x140mm lens with this method. Great results. I was thinking if the first rectangular (banana shape on the edges😂) was big as possible then the error should be less in general. Mine, without messing with the slider was approx 120x120mm for a 140x140 lens. Should i make it bigger with the slider so the banana first shape will be bigger? If i tune my 300x300 lens, the box must be as close to 300, correct? Some other things i observed to master the process. Timing settings do matter in the first menu. If they are not the same as the machine (tuned already) the lines may not be accurate and may meet in different spots of the rectangular. The surface or material must be appropriate for clean (as thin as possible) marking and focus must be spot on in order for thin and clean lines. Caliper ends must be sharp and not damaged at all. Be extremely focused when measuring and putting the values. It is very easy to make a mistake. What i did? Step by step with you in the video😂 Something useful i saw but did not try is the option to open a correction file in the process and i believe you can make further changes in order not to start from scratch. Useful for fine tuning an existing lens running the test again but with previous settings as starting point.
    Another question. When changing lenses if you do not screw exactly the same amount of turns the lens, does it affect the previous tunings and thus the marking results? Again, congrats for the video and guidance.

    • @LaserEverything
      @LaserEverything  2 роки тому +1

      Hey Polis great tips! All very important to remember. I have also successfully loaded a corfile to make edits and it 100% works no problem what-so-ever so that is nice as well. When changing lenses if you do not screw exactly the same amount every time there could be the tiniest of changes to your results but we're talking hundreths or thousandths of a millimeter which won't bother most people. One idea I had would be to screw the lens on nice and tight to the spacer and actually engrave a line (or mark a line with a dremel for example) between the two so that when you screw the lens on the two lines meet up. That's pretty extreme though and for 99% of people I don't think it's going to be a big enough difference to effect workflow.

      When doing lens correction, this adjusts for not just the warp introduced by the lens, but also the scale of the output compared to the software measurements, and also axis output orientation. It will only be as accurate as the measurements you provide back to it, and you need to be 100% sure you’re in focus. If you’re out of focus when doing the correction, the future output in focus will always be inaccurate. Same for doing in focus correct if you’re out of focus when marking. Check your focus, and if you’re spot on, You may need to try again with doing a correction, being sure you’re in focus every step and being as accurate as possible.

      In some cases, its possible to have very little lens distortion and such, and that may make doing it have a minimal gain. That said, for most users, it is a substantial difference going from no correction to having a fully tuned correction done, particularly if you're leaving the center of the lens when marking.
      If you're seeing no change, but noticed a large amount of distortion or skew, its possible the cor file was saved, but didn't get applied in lightburn, or it was applied but didn't take affect. After you apply it within the device settings, you can confirm through the menu to be sure its saved your settings, and if you're not seeing a change when testing, then restart the software. Sometimes settings being modified in the device settings don't always show immediately until after restarting the software and reconnecting to the laser.
