Liberal MP walks back call for Trudeau 'leadership review'

- Newfoundland and Labrador MP Ken McDonald has released a statement about a recent interview with Radio-Canada about the leadership of the Liberal Party. 'The intent of my recent public comments was not to personally call for a leadership review,' he said.

But there still is a significant portion of the population that supports the current government.
McDonald almost had his own opinion. For a Liberal or a Liberal supporter, that is not allowed and he will likely be shunned.

I'm curious as to what he / the party thinks walking back his statement would accomplish. It clearly resonated with people, and walking it back just erodes both his personal credibility and consequently the party's.
