I think Robby isn't given enough props. Probably because he was understated and always played FOR the song and didn't solo his brains out like some of his contemporaries.
Not in my opinion Easily super awesome and beloved. So happy he did this tour. I saw him in Kokomo, IN of all places and it almost started riot. When The Musics Over brought the county down.
He plays like the breeze. Like watching a kite dart around, bouncing, weaving a tapestry of sound and texture. I'd love to hear Robbie jam with a Jamaican steel drum artist!
People are very rude in this chat. Robby is getting old, He havent got the same strength and speed in his fingers or with the pick for that matter. To does who say it’s terrible, go do it better, be a massive legend who played in one of the best bands, and then tell me he is shit.
@@harrybalszak7526 Clapton is overrated. His licks are pedestrian he was in some influential bands and played well-ish for the time but he's not improved at all and just gets by on reputation playing simple blues standards in an uninspired way
He was lucky to get away with it back in the 60s, but nowadays most guitasrists are a million times better, and know their scales!!! This show was sad.
And yet they only very rarely create music with a quarter as much emotional or cultural impact as this man did when he was younger. Funny, that. He’s one of my favorites. Rarely his solos are the same as he mostly improvises every time, but truth be told, sometimes he doesn’t “nail it” and this is one of those times.
I liked your comment. Robbie Is one o my favs too, even if his hammer some sometimes misses and nails get bent or missed, I am chill w those occasional moments that can feed spontineity, yielding new phrasing. Its refreshing to hear an icon not regurgitate a note for note. This hits more into serendipity than exactitude. Most of the time. I’m sure he’s got the chops to imitate himself. He’s more of a jazz influenced and flamenco influenced improviser. Also I like how he uses techniques like Wes’s octaves, Trane’s motifs.
It's not classic Krieger because it's NOT the Doors! He's clearly experimenting live, and vamping, it's an instrumental in front of a small audience, NOT a televised show in a filled stadium. There's only so much you can do on a guitar when the other part of the original was Ray on the keyboard. You're listening to 1/4th of the Doors in an informal setting, so he's not feeling the pressure to perform at his best. Still, he remains one of the greatest songwriters of all time. He's the guy who wrote "Light My Fire" (among others) which he'll forever be known for. For all the naysayers out there, he has no need to prove anything to anyone, he's a Rock icon, and if he wasn't on top of his form that one night, who gives a f-ck? None of the people who criticize him will ever have a tenth of his talent!

I am sorry to say it, but it is not that good. I really miss the sound of the fingerpicking technique he was using in the '60. How come does he play with a pick now? It doesn't sound the same. Fingerpicking on electric was what made him special. I guess he is getting old... it is very cool that he still plays shows though...Hey Robbie, you use to be one of my favorite! Still love you man!
I hear what you're saying. As a 30+ year guitarist myself I agree this isn't anything phenomenal or particularly difficult, but come one man, it's Robbie freeking Krieger standing there entertaining people at that age still. I't just good by default LOL.
been a krieger fan for over 45 years and the man has his strong suits...live playing never was one of them....Sorry to burst your sarcastic bubble but RK has always fallen back on the same series of harmonic approaches when improvising: Once he feels the need to go past the initial 8 bars he defaults to the open position lydian approach, then jumps up 12 frets and does a similar lick...from the 1"20 point on he does the RK jazzy doors improv he did on absolutly live, other voice (hang on to your life) and full circle(verdilac)...Honestly for : the number of times he has played this stuff live-he should be killing these improvs, not meandering through them...
obx chriscross, totally agree, in studio he's great, live non that much, he does good melodies and he's still great but sometimes, expecially while improvising, he's sloppy as fuck and he doesn't know what to do, but we love him though

nice that you have experienced that, in a strange time now that would give freedom. I am 78 so I only had records that remained timeless.

The Doors leave the Stones in the dust!! They had the best front man in rock history & the best sound, what a galactic band !!! 🤟
