To follow a carnivore diet in its truest sense, you only eat animal meats and fats. Those who practice it report weight loss, blood sugar stability, more energy, better mental focus, and the list goes on.
A criticism of the diet is that it lacks research, leading to the question, “How does staying on this diet affect long-term health?”
I agree that there are benefits, and I agree that we won’t know the full health story until more substantial studies have been done. So, I thought, what would happen if I added a few days of carnivore a month to my typical low-carb diet? In other words, practice carnivore intermittently. And what I am calling intermittent carnivore was born.

I’m a new carnivore. I started Ketovore Jan 3 2024, on Feb 5 I started Carnavore, so 30 days today. I can’t say how happy I am! First thing I felt joyful and peaceful, I did not get carnivore Flu, I lost 15 pounds over these months, my sinuses stopped draining, my joints are better, my sleep is better. I eat mainly beef. Yes, I have one coffee in the morning with butter and cream. Water, LMNT, Redmonds salt, Finlandia butter, bone broth homemade. This is the best thing I have ever done. In June I will see the results of my labs and hear what my MD (she supports Keto) has to say. Prior to this, she offered me Ozempic. I was 194.4…now 179. I need to get to 150. But no hurry. I love this path. 73 yrs old and feeling so good! My life has changed dramatically.

I am a nurse of 43 years ( still practicing) right now I am hardcore carnivore, I have a severe autoimmune disease and when it flares up the ONLY thing that will send it into remission ( and it takes several months) is eating only beef, salt, butter, water ( I can also tolerate green beans and lettuce) anything else at all will send me into thee most imaginable pain you can fathom, I am in carnivore this time for 1 month ( down 16#) and on my way into remission ( BTW, I was forced into figuring it out on my own as Drs do NOT know how to get it into remission except with stem cell therapy and nobody’s insurance covers it as the FDA insists it is “ experimental “ even though it has been successful for over 10 years) Thank God for Dr Ken Berry here on UA-cam, an amazing carnivore Dr who also drinks coffee 😁

I’ve been on the carnivore diet for 2 months and I clearly recognize the differences. People on keto report the same benefits. Many people on a plant base diet also claim wonderful benefits. I’ve heard vegetables aren’t good for you, your body can’t break them down and they prevent other nutrients from being absorbed. Fruit isn’t good for you because it’s sugar. This is my own opinion based on things I’ve read and listening to my own body. I feel good eating animal based products, I feel good when eating certain organic vegetables and I feel good eating plain yogurt with organic blueberries and raspberries. The reason why I feel good eating my way is because I’m eliminating all processed foods , zero seeds oils and the only source of sugar is from the limited amount of fruit in the morning. If you pay attention to all 3 diets you can see a common thread. If you can cut out the things that are 100% proven to cause you harm, don’t eat any vegetables or fruits that cause gas/inflammation, limit carbs, fast, exercise and drink plenty of water, you should be in a good place. At the end of the day you have to listen to your body and figure out what works for you. I wish everyone nothing but happiness and good health 🙏

I’ve been carnivore since January 3rd this year (2024). I’m absolutely loving it!! I’ve probably tried every diet under the sun & was rarely able to stay on any longer than 3 weeks! Keto I stayed on for several months & never lost one pound. I just figured there was something horribly wrong with my body!
I think I was made for carnivore!! As soon as I started eating this way, I felt amazing!! I seriously look forward to seeing what the next year or two does for my body being on carnivore.
Before starting carnivore, I was totally eating whatever I wanted at that moment! I did eat mostly “clean” organic, grass fed/finished, pasture raised, etc. etc. But, if I was out & wanted a burger or anything else, I wouldn’t hesitate!
I felt pretty hopeless concerning loosing weight!
Last year I fasted 30 days & only lost about 10 pounds. It was quickly put back on as soon as I began eating again.
I’m excited about carnivore!! I can tell my stomach has shrunk. I am completely satiated with about 1/4 pound of fatty beef. But, then I need to eat again in about 4 to 6 hours.
I’m really proud of Dr. B for playing around with carnivore! I love her beautiful heart! She seems to genuinely care about others!
By the way, my body is now healing from the inside out! The visceral fat is shrinking! I have plenty of energy all day long! I have zero brain fog! I’m no longer lactose intolerant! I can drink cow’s milk with no issues now. I haven’t been able to drink milk or any dairy without horrible repercussions in over 15 years! My gums are stronger & don’t bleed anymore!! There are so so many benefits!!
I’m a 56yo female. I’m looking forward to loosing a lot of weight but for the first time in my life… I’m certainly enjoying the journey!! 💕 🥩 💕

Thanks for this video! Me too Dr. Beckey. 20 months keto/ but pushing to carnivore gradually. At this time, most of my diet includes animal protein 80%. And the other 20% are low carbs. No salads, some berries and cream, some herbs/spices. Nothing from a box or a package. No pastas, rice, no breads and absolutely no sugary foods. No night shades or green vegetables.
Better sleep, clear thinking and improvement in muscle tone. Eczema disappearing and oxalates are dumping. Many other skin and hair improvements too. I'm 74 YO.

I've done long term carnivore several times, once for two years, and the main thing I found is that you get used to not needing all the extras. But they come back fast. Variety is a drug like so many other things. I can have none, or I go overboard. Usually takes me about a month to get over craving variety.

Great video. I have been following a similar program like this for the last 2 years. I split up the week with Keto 4 days then 3 days of carnivore. It has worked wonders for me in so many ways. The only negative, although many of the Good Keto/carnivore guys on here don't think it's negative has been my jump in LDL. My Triglycerides dropped big time to 58 and my Hdl improved to 72 but my LdL went up to 190. The cleaner I eat with Carnivore the higher the LDL goes. I only eat grass fed organic meat and chicken and wild organic fish.

I kick start my weight loss when it stalls with a 24 hours fast. I try to maintain a moderate level of ketosis by eating low carb carnivore as closely as possible. I also enjoy my coffee, seasonings, and the occasional piece of cabbage and some no sugar tomato sauce on my carnivore cabbage rolls, and some pickled red cabbage to break up the boredom of ground beef, bacon and eggs done a gazillion different ways. Incorporating pepperettes add super flavour and variety, lamb, lamb chops, chicken thighs, so much variety I am discovering there is little reason to get bored except for our own imagination. One way to conquer this that I have discovered, shop the variety of meats and fishes available and cook it up as soon as possible thereafter. This way it’s cooked and ready to grab. I always make three different dishes with ground beef. And I keep a half dozen or so ideas handy for omelettes. Ground beef meatballs, ground beef burgers, ground beef meatloaves…. My low carbs are used with onion, mushroom, being used to flavour the eggs and ground beef. The spicy pepperettes and paprika turned out to be a super idea. Just chop small like onion size, and add it to the mix. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I also live a low-carb lifestyle, but occasionally I’ll go carnivore for a few weeks (but with MUCH more variation in the carnivore foods I eat to try to keep meals fun & satisfying). While I’m on carnivore, I get an incredible energy boost, I get even more lean, and my ketones go thru the roof while my blood sugar stays level, which I love. What I really miss when I’m on carnivore is my veggies 🤤, all things acidic, condiments, probiotics, and regular 💩s. 😆

Friday: OMAD / Ketovore - less than 10 grams of carbs

I do drink coffee, so I'm with you on that....but I wouldn't touch that "protein shake" with a 10 foot pole. And depending on what the fillers are in the crab cake; I'd probably not have those either. There's just SO MUCH other meat I'd rather have instead.

Thanks for this brief but succinct informative video. What you're describing can be done much like Dr. Boz's 72 hour sardine fast! I've been Carnivore/Keto for over about a decade now & I will NEVER turn back from it. I like the term you use "Intermittent Carnivore". I guess I do the same as you except in the reverse... I'm mostly Carnivore majority of the time but then decide to add a sprinkle of 3-7 days of meat-centric Keto. So I guess I'm more Intermittent Ketovore!
Thanks again for this Dr. Becky. Enjoy your videos!

Started keto little over a year ago been carnivore for at least a month. Omad on both. One thing I noticed is I get hungry before I eat at 4 so I eat cooked pork belly fat pieces . Yes same electrolytes plus iodine 2 drops in the morning water with more magnesium citrate. I feel good lost 25 lbs I’m 67 , gym and bowling 3 leagues a week. I liked your video because of the versatile ways we can go with these two diet lifestyles . My garden will provide good organic salads while they’re growing and I can’t wait for the fig trees a limited amount .After that carnivore until next gardening season. I decided that figs can fit in after watching the Oreo cookie statin results video .

Love this, Becky! I followed you and Keith for 65 lbs weight loss 4 years ago. I continued Keto but found through vacations and little cheats that the weight started to creep up (20 lbs to be exact.) I switched to carnivore to see if that would reign in my creeping carb addiction. It's working. I'm down about 8 lbs after 3 weeks carnivore. Aldi meat section makes it very affordable. I find it very simple to follow because I do love animal based diet-and truthfully, I am a LAZY cook; the quicker and least planning, the better. I'm hoping to get to 'normal' weight for the first time in my adult life. I love the carnivore lifestyle. Through it all, I am (mostly) OMAD. Salmon, chicken, beef, pork. Yum.

Good morning from the Wide Bay Region of Queensland. I've also done intermittent carnivore with fasting since 2018. Combined with high intensity gardening 🤣on our permaculture farm, weight training and mountain biking I can definitely say I'm feeling much better at 55 than I have done for years. In between intermittent carnivore I eat more paleo style including more homegrown greens , nuts and berries.

Thanks for this video. From reading some comments I’m one of the few who didn’t see any improvement in energy (I’m exhausted all the time) and no reduction in belly fat, even though I’ve been doing carnivore for 9 months. I did improve my morning fasting blood sugar & I did see a reduction in joint pain & reduced inflammation in my feet. But I did lose valuable muscle in my thighs. Let me we clear, I think carnivore works better for people who are 20-30 years younger than I am.
At 70, I’ve had great success following a gluten free, sugar free diet for 35 years, due to a diagnosis of Rheumatoid arthritis and Hashimoto’s in my thirties. Unlike the rest of my family, I’ve never been on RA meds or had any joints replaced, because I followed a gluten free, no sugar diet. But even though my thyroid meds have been adjusted many times, I’m still extremely tired, & out of breath when I walk, & my cardiologist hasn’t yet found anything major.
I was much healthier before menopause and I regret not staying on HRT, because that is when I gained the belly , started losing bone ( I lost 4 inches) losing muscle tone, losing memory, losing so many things. Even though I live in a major metropolitan area, doctors won’t follow my wishes. But I’m not going to give up, getting on HRT, because high fat carnivore did NOT give me back the hormones that I need for a good life, contrary to what the Naturopath doctor said it would do.

Thank you for your video. I, like other commenters, started carnivore on Jan 1st this year. I’ve lost 19 lbs so far. I’m 5’9” & have about 35 lbs left to lose. I don’t babysit the scale and only weigh on the first of each month. My clothes tell me I’m making good progress throughout the month. I also drink coffee but my other cheat would be choc zero as I have a little snack if they’re for dessert each day. It’s not carnivore but close enough and it works for me. I eat within a 4 hour window from about 11:30-4:30 but usually only one meal a day. I appreciate and enjoy your videos and your knowledge. Thank you for sharing.

I've been following a sort of Carnivore diet nearly a year, more strictly since November.
I was pleasantly surprised by my medical providers' reactions when I told them what I was doing. Now, my PA wants me to come back in 6 months just to see how my blood work is affected. Fair enough, but I won't take any statins if she recommends it.
I think it takes a while for our body to adjust so this first year could be uncertain.
I recently was weighed at doctor's office, I expected about a 20-lb. loss since November. I was very disappointed I'd GAINED 4 lbs. But when I weighed a few weeks later (had a colonoscopy) I'd lost 10 lbs. I hope that is the start of more weight-loss success.
One note, it's recommended I double up the prep in future as my colon wasn't entirely cleaned out. I wonder if that's due to no carbs or fiber present to move things along. I'm just grateful I didn't have to take GoLitely for the prep. 🤢🤮

I've gone full carnivore but didn't like the digestion routine changes that came? But I can certainly do one meal full carnivore once a day and once in awhile? I'm still learning, experimenting, and improving. That's what keeps life interesting? I've found that the closer to zero my carb intake is, the more benefits that I realize.

Yes, there are no long term studies of the carnivore diet that can inform on causality. However that is true with EVERY diet (keto, vegetarian, vegan, Mediterranean, pescatarian, etc. the list goes on). The studies simply cannot be done, for ethical and economic reasons. What we have is a lot of short-term epidemiological studies that cannot inform on causality. So, what we're left with is looking at anectodal reports which is where the carnivore diet seems to have a wide range of short term benefits. Personally, I've been low carb for 5 1/2 years (3 keto, 2.5 carnivore), and ALL of my many conditions, including T2D have been resolved, while allowing me to drop ALL of my (ten) medications. I'm feeling better than I did in my early twenties, and IF carnivore shortens my life (personally, I doubt it), living pain free, T2D free, drug free, and feeling this good, then I don't care if it costs me a few years. It's all about QUALITY of life, not QUANTITY. 😀👍

This is the way my husband and I eat, late 60s. He, zero prescriptions, me, type 1 diabetic and hashimotos. Neither need BP meds or statins, his CAC - 0. My A1C, low 5s.
My body is sensitive to so many foods, and these foods change from time to time, depending on how much I consume. For instance, I have to alternate between almond and coconut milk for coffee. Appears too much of one thing causes a sensitivity. I don’t understand it. So we eat low carb, cook at home, avoid seed oils, trans fats, processed foods, take a lot of supplementation. I muscle test most foods and sadly, some of my favorites, like Brussel sprouts, are a no no. Definitely has something to do with these autoimmune diseases.

Becky, you said normally you stick to a low carb diet of 60 carbs per day by eating a salad at lunch and low-starch veggies at dinner. 60 carbs worth of salad and veggies is a LOT of those items. I mean you could eat 2 cups of veggies and a salad and still be under 20 carbs. What else are you eating to make up the rest of the carbs? Just curious.

Thank you for this! Despite not having formal controlled studies, I do believe that this is how our ancestors lived (at least those living in the north) when fruits & vegetables weren’t available year round. They relied on consuming animals to live.
I touched on prediabetes (A1C 6.0) last June and since then, eat an ‘animal based’ diet and have slowly lost 11 lbs, my A1C was a 5.5, 2 months after changing my diet & I moved from being obese to overweight. I have 10 lbs to lose to be a ‘’normal BMI”. I also indulge in decaf & protein powder. I don’t think this way of eating is boring at all. I love eggs & bacon & eat them every day as my first meal and my second meal is typically a fatty protein - usually beef, but occasionally venison, pork or chicken. I remember Dr Keith being insulin resistant- has he tried carnivore and if so, how did he do? I know that you are insulin sensitive, so you’re able to eat more of a variety of healthy carbs and not be affected. Bottom line, is I feel great in my late 50’s with mental clarity & a lot of energy.
