On the contrary, Claptrap is the worst thing about those games. Anytime I think "I might play some Borderlands" and I hear that incessant twit bleating once started, I close the game straight away and move onto something else.
This is why I don't do multiplayer-focused games, as soon as the community fades you're left with a borderline unplayable game.. I feel for everyone who enjoyed the game, you should be able to enjoy it for years to come not just for that brief launch window.
0lionheart battleborn pc has about 200 players. most of em are in contact with each other, forming mini communities and Forums for comp matches. and there is still Story and Bot Match. Both Modes witch wont get stale ( for me ) i bought this game about 2-3 months ago for under 10€ on MMOGA and played nearly 210 hours. Its great
Zenturio That's pretty awesome, it's good to hear people are still making it work. Similar thing happened to one of my favourite multiplayer games (Aliens vs Predator), I ended up playing the same people most of the time and the few people that still played were so good I just couldn't keep up. It was cool that I could still play it years after release, not sure where it's at now though.
Well you just have to pick your game knowing the popularity its gonna have. Also, you're not gonna play this game in 3 years, I don't get the argument of people saying "well I need to be able to play this in 10 years". You don't, there are tons of videogames, and nobody comes back to a 2 years old game unless it's a solo one. You buy it to have fun until the next thing. I play Overwatch and I know it's gonna be emptied in like, 1 or 2 years (For Honor will be the first jab to the player base I think), and I don't care. On the other hand, Battleborn was gonna flop and everybody knew it. Bought it anyway cause I found it at 10 bucks and it's worth just that, or maybe 20-30, for the solo alone and a few MP matches.
Loved that game! Still play the single player every now and then. About a year ago I tried MP on PC and couldn't find a match after a pretty long time waiting. If it's hard to find a match on PC I guarantee its dead on console. Which is a shame. Like you said the MP was really fun.
whatever happened to 'bots? a naff compromise admittedly, but at least you could always find someone to play against, even if it's one other person and 14 bots.
DAMNIT!!! This game had so much stuff that most shooters today REFUSE to add to their games. Split screen mode, Campaign mode, MOBA-like elements. I'm so afraid all this is going to do is tell future game devs that "Customers don't want that in their shooters." When that's what I've been waiting for! DX
People know what they want, and will ultimately support the title they feel provides them with what they want. Not everyone will agree that these choices are always good ones but neither you nor I can tell other people about what they should want or not want. I for example have no interest whatsoever in Overwatch. It's nothing against Overwatch personally, I just think competitive games of any sort breed cancerous behavior. I can do without these particular types of games, but that doesn't really impact the vast amount of people who really like that sort of thing.
But that's not true tho. People cry about wanting shit while sale numbers say otherwise. An example of this is Graphics over FPS. The producer of a game team will actually push the team for better graphics even tho it hurts performance because the graphs show that it sells better. As someone who has worked in game studios i've seen this happen time and time again with several damn ideas. So no, looking at the numbers people technically don't know what they want.
Dalion Heart i'm pretty sure i have way better insight on this since i've actually worked with this. The numbers usually say the opposite it's just a low vocal percent of people that think they speak for everyone. As much as the developers want to push for 60 fps over better graphics the producers push i nthe other direction for the sake of sale numbers.
Really the only time I heard of it outside of the Jimquisition was one single poster at one single GameStop. And even then I thought it was a toy game like Disney Infinity or Skylanders (which in hindsight would’ve been cool, I’d buy those for desk toys).
You had to actually look for the good marketing, which defeats the purpose. I still try to watch the Battleborn Boot Camp trailer, even though I only ever saw it on UA-cam. If that was their ad, I think it would've gotten more people, as it better defined what people were working with. Yeah, it's a longer video, but at that time, video ads in stores were still being used. Even if you watched 5 minutes, you'd be interested in the personalities you see and look into it.
It actually is gearbox's fault, their greed is what made this game fail. They could've released the game as a 30$ or 20$ title, or even as a f2p multiplayer title with the campaign as a paid expansion. If they had done any of that they would've had a serious competition against overwatch, I remember people complaining and having doubts about a full price game that looks more like a f2p moba shooter and that doesn't have single player elements. If only they took advantage of that criticism that overwatch was getting... But what they did was too little too late.
Leinadlink greedy seriously? Blizzard is apart of Activision they are literally the most greedy publisher ever and f2p there is no look to a free to play game
How the fact that Gearbox competes with Activision suddenly makes Gearbox less greedy? Activision made Blizzard shittier than it ever was, ruined WoW, produced pay2winStone, invented lootboxes in their current state, true. I still don't see how it relates to Gearbox though. Gearbox are scum, just as Blizzard or any other company is. The timing of Battleborn release in attempts to cash in on people who couldn't wait for Overwatch only serves to prove that. I don't see any fault of Blizzard other than successfull marketing, which by the way wasn't even that aggressive. It's Overwatch's competitiors who promoted their games as "good Overwatch", not the other way around.
Indeed. Both companies were greedy, but Pitchford decided to double down on the pennypinching and still charge for a game that many people already saw as "Overwatch, but worse and more expensive". Funny enough had they made it F2P they would have actually gained more money in the longrun, but they would have taken a launch hit in the money department. This seem to be a problem with the industry in general. The sad part is Fortnite was in the same position, decided to offer it's PUBG-style playmode for free, and is now more remembered than the thing it cloned.
I grabbed it off a humble bundle sale, the 2K bundle to be specific, it was up for 15 bucks, and that's including other games in the bundle. I think that's a even larger slap in the face for those who bought it for 65 dollars on day one. The PC has less than 300 players per day globally and looking for a match in countries other than USA or Europe take at least 2 hours. The upside is that with such a small player base, the community have some of the friendliest people who are willing to help new players. 2k didn't handle battleborn well at all but it is a great game that has a great if small community.
If Battleborn were released today, January 21, 2018, it might actually be able to succeed. Maybe even be known as the go-to for anyone pissed at Overwatch and its countless expensive skins and its exploitative loot box system.
*sigh* Man I feel bad for Battleborn...I was one of the sorry idiots that bought it at launch because I genuinely wanted to support it...after about 2 months I bought Overwatch because thats what everyone is playing now...
Yeah...I was really not impressed with Overwatch, it felt like a F2P game with a premium price, same microtransactions, same lack of content, it wasn't bad but the only reason it sold so well is because of one word "Blizzard", I did like Battleborn and got my money's worth out of it, but it was just sad that I couldn't get more out of it
thewaterguy17 still play battleborn Max level max 4 characters got tons of achievements play all the time with other players useing mics games not dead I don't get the hate
I got battleborn in a humble bundle for 15 bucks like 2 months after launch. Tried a bit of it but can't run it with my dated 750 Ti and Pentium G2020. Overwatch, however, is optimized enough for me to play at decent framerates, and it has honestly been the most fun i've had in years. I've invested 100+ hours into it so far. With that said, I really want to try battleborn again once I get a better cpu.
This is such a depressing tale. I like Battleborn and prefer it over its counterparts (Overtwatch, TF2 and the ilk) for multitude of reasons; It has a campaign with a solo mode, the characters are very creative, art style is lovely and, most importantly, it has Toby. And I love Toby. Sadface.
I really like the character design, too. There was a THICC black chick, and that was cool, cos you never see that in games for some reason. I only played it during the pre-release free weekend on PS4, but I was already geared to buy Overwatch and play with all my friends. I played two games as Montana, so he's the one who's name I remember; I liked him too, though I can't decide if I hate how very small his head is. Wasn't there a reason in his story for that?
The woman you are talking about is Reina. A.K.A Thunder Thighs. Her running animation is pretty funny. I have and enjoy both games, but i feel like Overwatch was way over hyped. Battleborn deserved more hype and Overwatch should've gotten a bit less. They're both fun but OVerwacth just feels really basic. And with the way the game is more often than not i feel more compelled to just fuck around rather than put in any effort to win like in Battleborn. My friend and i once got our entire team to be Mercy because we felt like playing damage buffed attack Mercy.
Sometimes the all-one-guy teams are surprisingly effective, particularly if the opposing team makes no effort to counter it. Other times, like last night, I get 3 Hanzos on Lia Jiang tower who fuck around so much we can't even survive past our spawn point, so I rage quit, and suddenly I lose 75% exp for 10 matches! I wish I knew what to expect before I decided to flip the table.
This depresses me more than you know. I love this game. I still play it, even with the small player base on PS4. I really hope it gets a second chance to be the acclaimed game it deserves to be. Even if it is in a sequel.
I'll disagree: it stands in par of dark, shady, business(AKA plans that go wrong in seconds) as much as I want to separate the two. The only difference is at the same time, OW has well done updates and loads of progress made to becoming 2.0. Battleborn couldn't see the wolves in the forest due to the load of mismanagement, loads of unrealistic expectations, and Randy in charge of screwing up.(It appears that Randy is now a unlucky name to be born with.)
yeah id agree with that... Diablo 2 was the last Blizzard game that was worth my attention .. Diablo 3 looks waaay too cartoony (i been playing PathOfExile (has its problems too but its not cartoony) .. Overwatch looks too cartoony.. im not into that shit..
I think one of Battleborn's shortcomings was the lack on focusing the characters. Overwatch couldn't stop waving about Winston and Tracer and Reaper and Reinhardt and Mercy and they sort of became iconic (yes Jim, I'm using the Ubisoft word!) in a rather short timespan. Battleborn's characters look also really appealing, but I couldn't name you a single character nor describe what his character is. Overwatch quickly labelled every character and gave it a certain trait to make it stand out. The smart, wise Winston, the bubbly, cheeky Tracer, the trying-so-hard-to-be-evil Reaper and so on. Maybe if Gearbox would've dedicated more time to showcasing their heroes (along with a lower price tag) then people would've actually given more of a shit. I didn't even know what Battleborn was until it basically hit the shelves and at that point I was just thinking 'so.. it's..Overwatch but not Overwatch. alright'
That was my biggest gripe with Bb. Why have over 25 different designs but only give their personality limited to their look and whatever stupid shit they say whem they fight? Cause dey ez ramdumb bruhXDD right????
....but every Battleborn character has a decent bit of lore associated with them. Granted a lot of it is locked behind challenges. But still. I'd say it's more the fact that the personalities for the OW characters is simplistic enough for people to quickly latch onto more than anything else.
yeah but, look at how much personality was on display from the trailers alone we got 1, maybe 2 battleborn trailer. 1 was just memes and shit, the other was a character trying to explain what was going on while some soldier was also doing the may mays in the back. that and when showing off the characters they purposely harmed some of there reputation. this guy stinks real bad! he smells! he is awfully stinky! look how smelly he is! we even have a taunt were he almost knocks himself out with his stench! - them trying to... sell? the dwarven berserker guy
I don't think battleborn's characters are as appealing. The overwatch artstyle is a sythesis of the last 10 years of pixar style animation mixed with marvel superheroes. It was ingeneered and polished to the extreme for mass appeal. Battleborn had some nice design and neat ideas, but not half the consistancy and polish to make them really pop. And you can't blame them: they dont have even a tenth of blizzards resources (a complitely random estimation). Blizzard is the only dev out there that can be sure to make its money back, and opt to polish a game for years rather than making yearly releases until the consumers are bored. It helps that they have WoW to make a stream of revenus that has remained quite consistent for more than a decade.
"What really sucks is that it was a good bloody game" Jim, THANK YOU. Thank you thank, for someone to finally acknowledge that the game was good, it means so freaking much to me cause I freaking adore this game, and i have gotten nothing but crap for liking it. Just....thank you so much for calling this game "good"...
So a new team gets punished for what another did. Great. Goes to show the name carries more weight than the actual people. Guess if Blizzard shit in a bag and put a price tag on it, it would sell a million copies only for the Blizzard logo stamped on the bag.
+Lightscribe225 As sad as it is, yes, the name does carry more weight. People don't have the time or care to see who leaves and who joins a company unless its the head honcho.
Battleborn failed because there wasn't enough fan-generated Battleporn to accompany it... probably because the bulk of its characters did not make decent waifu material... especially compared to Overwatch...
I have arrived at a time which is considered to be fairly recent to the release of this video. In response to this phenomena and due to the popularity of such practices as commenting, I must debate with myself as to what to say. Perhaps a comedic and or ironic statement which some individuals find entertaining?
It's such a shame, i really enjoyed playing it and wanted to get to level 100 before the game died but there are simply not enough people. i have waited for 30 minutes to get into a match that was against the same 15 people that are on par with me. If battleborn was made by blizzard and overwatch by gearbox people would have praised it into the heavens.
Behomie hahah! WTF? You didn't mention anything about having fun, nor was that a critical part of getting to level 100.....you dumb ass!! hahah, what a troll! But now, you want to get level 100 in versus AND HAVE FUN, because it fits your narrative all of a sudden. TROLL!
On PC, you can find a match... against 5 players all at Lvl 100... all of whom were using the same DLC character (Alani i think is her name)... And about your comment about how Battleborn didn't do anything wrong, well... I'd agree it did nothing *major* wrong. The game itself has issues, I.e. performance (especially on PC where the framerate can go from 18 to 160 by turning your head, not even joking), balancing (the 5 Lvl 100s all using Alani is just sad), and bugs (enemies and players getting stuck in geometry, especially in the *same spot* near the beginning of the 3rd Campaign mission) that Gearbox haven't even bothered to fix since launch. No wonder the Steam reviews are mixed!
Honestly, the story of battle born will never fail to make me sad. Seriously, I freaking loved that game when it first came out. It was great, and I can still name a few of the characters now. I would happily use magic to steal the success of fifa or something, if I was just allowed to give it to battle born. It deserved better
For those keeping track at home, it's 2021 and beyond good and evil 2 Still doesn't exist.. it's been 13 years now since the teaser dropped. Pre production sure takes a while...
But DNF was a mess from a 12 year Development hell(Purgatory?) with a hype that NO GAME could have lived up to, and Colonial Marines was passed off to a handfull of other parties... Not making excuses, just pointing out that there are several different boats here.
brainflash1 This guy doesn't get the point. Comeuppance SHOULDN'T have happened to Battleborn. It's not nearly as bad as mess as Aliens. and DNF had some moments, it was still shit, but it had its moments.
UnBR0k3enAngel That's how Karma works: it doesn't care how it gets you as long as the backlash is proportionate to the offense. If they didn't give a shit when they were ruining other peoples' intellectual property, then why should their own IP succeed?
As much as they did fuck up with those games, I really, really wish the damage happened to a different game. Battle born feels like the most unlucky game in the world right now, because it has a lot of good things in it, and tried much harder than Overwatch when it came down to having content and depth for the character customization. It feels like its more deserving than overwatch when it counting for the effort put into it, but instead, it suffered the most.
Some of the female characters in BB are attractive I think, just in a different way. Along with the art style being more rugged, many of the character's aesthetics are more rugged as well. You could argue they look a bit more realistic overall. I find it very hard to meaningfully compare the characters in OW and BB though, because while the art designs are different, they are also similar enough for my untrained mind to instinctively place them into the same category. All I can really say is OW is shinier, BB is more matte in tone.
There's no two ways about it. Battleborn got fucked in every conceivable way. It was after colonial marines, in direct competition with Blizzard who have a long standing tradition of BURYING competition. Then, the art style is kind of between borderlands and Pixar while not really committed to either direction? Ducking unfortunate.
3:06 Battleborn literally looks like a copy paste of Overwatch in the style department. They're about as different as the Kardashian sisters are to each other.
This is 100% true, these games are only alike on the very surface, as someone that during beta believed battleborn to be the better game in terms of mechanics, I can attest to them being very different
TripleSK7 Some people find fighting other players online more difficult than a solitary game over prolonged periods of time as unlike AI players adapt and change their tactics almost infinitely in comparison. Whilst patterns and techniques can be learned and observed in both something like Dark Souls and a multiplayer shooter, there's no faster update to the enemies capabilities than a person over a patch. I may have started rambling somewhere.
honestly battleborn is more fun than overwatch and the characters are fun. while overwatch is solid honestly its just not fun with the characters being sandblasted stereotypes and the game modes are boring. "I will not stop until every shirt on this planet is tucked the f@#$ in." - Ambra
Poor job mate. Battle stillborn. It works better with the title, flows better, and better to describe how it was dead on arrival since all the docs were playing overwatch instead of delivering it.
Honestly, my biggest problem with battleborn is the graphical style, it looks like a mobile game. I wish they just stuck with borderlands' style. it's both more complex and visually pleasing
Very true. One of the main reasons I didn't even notice Battleborn back when it was relevant is the fact, that I couldn't tell it apart from some mobile MOBA commercial. The first impression matters a lot and it failed in that regard. I'm not here to claim its artstyle was shit, I never looked deeply into it and I do believe people that say it is in fact unique and all if you go deep into it... But it has never given me a single reason to go into it at all
I bought Battleborn when it went on Humble Bundle a couple months ago for $10. It's actually much better than I thought it would be, and I had been disappointed by the two open betas I had played. My biggest gripe about the game is how on-the-nose and ridiculous most of the characters and plot is. For a game that pushes its story and style so much, I have to say, much of it is truly terrible. There are characters that look like reskins of eachother (Oscar Mike and Whiskey Foxtrot), two that look like body morphs of eachother with the same face and hairstyle (Shane and Aurox & Reyna) and just absolutely silly characters like a gigantic underbite skull, a monstrously deformed thing with an adam's apple the size of a truck, chubby pink commando bird, penguin mech, a badly dressed lizard dude, etc. Not to mention the mysterious disappearance of one of Thorn's shoes. Just makes no sense and half the characters look like they came from a "Random All" button on a character creator. Compare to Overwatch's bright, fun and likeable cast and "I get it" abilities, it's easy to see why it got a lot more attention. Didn't deserve to be as much of a failure as it was though.
Fun fact: one of the move speed gear items explains why Thorn only has one shoe. Mike and Whiskey are clones. :D Whiskey was defective. The lore is fun if you get into it. :) Whiskey has some more visual cues that tie him to other characters, but I don't want to spoil it. It took me ages to see why people said they (clones) were the same race as some of the other non human characters. Probably because I don't have too much of those characters' lore yet. I just started unlocking Mike's, but Orendi is pulling me away.
>> For a game that pushes its story and style so much, I have to say, much of it is truly terrible Nah, you have nothing to say. Your words clearly show you did nothing to get the story. Characters may look generic (but don't tell me OW characters look any more interesting, lol), but should you read their lore, complete missions, listen to characters' banter and lines, you'd see how wrong you are, they are not generic at all, they all have their interesting twists. The same goes with the universe. It's everywhere - in lore section, in missions, even on GBX's forum every week there's a new lore piece. It's solid and deep, unlike a shiny but empty and illogical mess OW lore is.
I don't care about all that - the software DID do wrong by me. It starts you off in a PvE mission that you can't skip, quit out of, or save and quit to finish later. It ran like absolute dogshit for me and my older graphics card, staying mostly in the teens after reducing every graphics setting I could (while Overwatch runs 45-60 on medium w/ some high settings), and to change some of the graphics settings you have to fully restart the game (remember what I said about not being able to save and quit in the middle of a mission?). I have not started it back up since that second boot, nor do I have any desire to do so.
Yes, because criticizing a game for poor optimization while exhibiting terrible design practices (being unable to change settings before the game starts, forcing you into a mission, and then not giving you any means whatsoever to resume the mission after you've sorted things) is me fanboying. All while the only Blizzard game I've played until Overwatch was dabbling in Diablo III before I got bored at level 50-something. You must be a special kind of stupid.
Honestly say what you will about Gearbox, but real programmers and artists put a huge amount of work and effort into Battleborn, all to have it go down in flames not because they did an explicitly bad job, but largely because of releasing in the wrong place at the wrong time. That's a shitty hand to be dealt. I know there will always be casualties in business, but it doesn't make it any less of a bummer.
Sir Musty Yup, it's March of the sterling jester, thanks! (For some reason your comment is flagged as "spam" and I get an error when I say it's not spam)
They had a very simple grindfest FPS MOBA shooter in a closed beta and decided to overhaul the entire game to release it on steam so no one knew what it was any more, then they overhauled it a few more times losing players each time. lots of work to lose players, who knows why they kept on doing it, may as well release a "firefall classic" at that point. RIP though, I only liked the 1st game.
Mark Kern(the person behind the original Firefall) is now trying to make that original vision again. It's called Ember, if you want to see, but it's still too early to really tell if it's anything good.
Well, if by "simple" you mean the popular comparison scenario of "Vanilla Star Wars Galaxies", then maybe yeah. ((This post is going to very lengthy with pretty much zero-new-info, and lots of repetition of mine from parts of the internet; I just like writing a lot because that's how I function.)) Right at the start of 2014 (even before the release) the game gradually become worse and worse (especially when they first made the thumping / mining to be the very-only-source for printing / crafting-materials and quick-missions become the very-only-source for the crystite / money. Well, okay maybe it wasn't as "black-and-white" as I described here. But point is that they simply forced players to specific things instead of having the freedom to whatever they want and still get almost everything). ((And this time I don't even delve into the removal of the arena-PvP-section and the "server / region"-jumping-addon being disabled and making their automatic-system even worse (latter being one of the major reason that "killed-off" the PvP since the matchmaking didn't happen cross-region / server, or even cross zone-channel / shard.))) And the "release"-version (August 2014) was a complete 900-degrees-turn gameplay and such-wise: - Gone was the complex yet simple enough equipment-system with interesting "Horizontal"-balance in which all equipments were viable; now it is just the plain old "no-brainer" level-based gear in which the biggest number is the best. This for the most part also killed the market: Only the "purple"-stuff become worth selling. And even then thanks to the removal of the "durability" or "equipment-sink"-system, there was no point using the market at all if you had already gotten all "one-set-and-nothing-variable-purples". ((In a somewhat odd comparison, I used to tell the original-durability system being just next inspiration from "Dark Cloud"-games, in which you level-up your equipments individually and then break them down to boost & build up your next weapons. Not much was different since you were able to get refined "boost"-materials and other nice things you needed for "research" plus other rewards once you salvaged the equipments you had "nurtured" really well (I.E. dying the least amount as possible). But then again, I also had gotten used to "limited-usage"-weapons in various games already, most obvious one being "(Project) Entropia Universe", in which majority of the equipments simply cannot be required at all, but you could get the 1% item-value of the "deposit" out them by selling them to (NPC) Trade-Terminals, or as I have nicknamed them "Reverse vending machines".)) - Gone is the constant invasions of the strategic-posts which required defending from invasion-forces or else you'd might lose a really good mining-area temporarily; now it is just the level-zoned areas that keeps you "kicking out" whenever you're either too low levelled (by making the enemies immune to your attacks E.G: like in say Borderlands and even doesn't give you XP-rewards (at least in my experiences)) Or it outright makes you "down-levelled" when entering the zone you're over-leveled within (okay, it kinda is like "Spiral Knights", but it's still done far more worse. And certainly "nothing" like in "Guild Wars 1" (in which you could simply keep collecting skill-points thus making your characters stronger that way). Oh yeah, and the ghost-town-effect Mark Kern really didn't want. But internet has the article(s) already "all around", so that shouldn't be new-news. ((For a reminder, supposedly Mark Kern hadn't been in creative control for the whole 2013 before the resignation / leaving the studio at the start of 2014.)) Worst thing about this release-version: It was tested behind semi-closed doors. We used to have a Public Test Environment for upcoming-version. But this one was very stealthy / casually announced at some point (maybe 6-months-before) and not that many actually bothered join it (apparently) since not only you actually had apply for an invitation, it supposedly was also quite NDA-version too. Sure, there was some public things mention "the (player-character) speed is much faster" and such other "trivial" things. But otherwise the release-version came quite out of the left-field, even with all the (vague) "teasings" ("Simplifying the player-progress & equipment-system", and something related). Worst thing of course being how badly, if not almost worse than in beta the gameplay-performance was (I'll summarize this all to "escort-missions"...). So yeah, we were promised (and originally paid for) a "fast-paced sandbox"-game, yet this somehow got turned into "yet-another-one-aisle-theme-park"-game, or as many has dubbed this current as "World of Warcraft with guns and slightly more higher-leaping jump" (seriously though, the jumpjets / jetpacks or generally the traversing in the game got utterly amputated (E.G.before you could set-up all your glider-pads in row / set-up a new-one as soon as you landed thus tactically speaking glide all around the map 24/7; now you can only have one active for ~10-seconds with a 120(?)-second cooldown). Whatever went wrong, went really badly wrong, and we all players "lost" a very good game due whatever forces. ((In a somewhat similar fashion what happened with "Dead Island Epidemic", but me thing they on purpose sabotaged the run-performance in order to pull of the "flop-scheme" (I personally highly recommend for Mel Brook's "The Producers"-movie & Uwe Boll to understand better this scheme; it is still surprisingly unknown even today considering "it's been there since always).))
yeah... since they destroyed the bastion because of some cockmongering "abusers" it's quite dead for me. and it didn't have that much players anyway... enjoyed it a lot though. have seen it when it was shown on gamescom in 2010 or 2011 i think and was allowed as tester shortly after that. but seriously, completely changing how a class plays and making it just HORRIBLE is something a dev should never do **looking at star conflict here too...** adding things and new ways to play: awesome. taking away everything that's fun and replacing it by a steaming pile of shit: awful
I feel TF2 did the cartoon art style right. overwatch, paladins, and battle borne all look like clown vomit. I picked it up on steam and got around 50 hours in it, and I spent $3.50 on it.
Same here. I think it's not a bad thing to be cartoon style, I actually like the the style of Boarder land. But Battleborn has gone too far on exaggeration. Some characters look deformed and just...ugly.
i dont like the artstyle of both battleborn AND overwatch, but overwatch's is a tad cleaner and easier on the eyes. Too many colours and effects, all blending together into a headache
Zomboy123456789 Oglaf is an illiterate shepherd whose magical semen writes words in the air, so he tries to learn to read with it. Also later on he has real sex with a shepherd girl. Not just penis-vagina penetration, *real* sex. It creates a huge explosion. Which is why, when you have sex, you should always do it somewhere remote to minimise the loss of life.
Zomboy123456789 LOL! ;-D Also one night the sorceress's apprentice wakes up to a huge spider giving him a blowjob. The spider says "Oh, I usually inject you with something to keep you asleep, I must have forgotten this time". Then it leaves through the window...
At least EA has origin, which is better than Uplay and the FUCKERS HAVE KNOW THAT THE CREW CAN TAKE FOREVER TO INSTALL, AND HAVE DONE NOTHING TO FIX IT FOR A YEAR, EVEN WHEN RELEASING THE THING FOR FREE! Don't get the crew, Uplay is shit and the crew is riddled with technical issues.
Jimboola Honestly, I'd argue Ubisoft is worse these days. EA's kept their heads down, the last big transgression being Sims 4 being crap compared to Sims 3.
As someone who owned both Battleborn and Overwatch before recently dropping both, Battleborn is the better game. Don't care how the Blizzard fan want to defend it, OW is severely lacking in content to a ridiculous point with next to nothing significant added since release aside from Ana. Whereas Battleborn launched with more modes, a campaign, and has had a steady stream of same emotes and skins that Overwatch had since Day 1 . Gearbox has made mistakes but people need to call out Blizzard rather than defending them all the time
As someone who owned both Battleborn and Overwatch and has since sold Battleborn (for $1) Overwatch is the better game. There is content, but that's besides the point because Overwatch TROUNCES Battleborn in gameplay, there's more likeable characters, a better art style that doesn't hurt my eyes when I try to play for extended periods, and just has overall more polished and balanced gameplay. Not to mention it's not dead/dying so it will continue getting content regardless on top of all this.
Do explain why Overwatch is better in gameplay, has more likeable characters and better art style. "More likeable characters" is all about opinion and personal taste (vsm1 made a good point because that's all what many Overwatch fans want), so someone else might like more Battleborn characters than Overwatch characters. Gameplay is also about opinion and personal taste; in this case I personally prefer Battleborn, especially Incursion but I do like Capture as well, plus it has a Campaign mode while Overwatch lacks it. As for art style, I think both are kinda similar when they're both cartoony and colorful. I don't see a whole lot difference, except maybe better details in Overwatch or Idk. What DOES make Overwatch a whole lot better is it has a bigger lore going on. Comics, animated shorts, web pages (pre-Sombra release) and just more story. They just need to build it correctly instead of making mistakes in the story and timeline and such.
Old post so I don't know what's your view on Overwatch now, but for now I say I agree. Blizzard needs to be called out sometimes. I was a former fan of Overwatch but now I'm more like "I *sometimes* enjoy the game to some extent, I love some characters and interested about the lore and I like to see the animated shorts, comics and origin stories but else I'm tired of the rest of the bullshit". Battleborn has many pros where Overwatch have their cons, example the Campaign is a nice add (where you CAN go single-player into) and is a shame Overwatch doesn't have it. The only Campaign-like mode in Overwatch currently is the Uprising mode where you play as Mercy, Tracer, Reinhardt and Torbjörn. Because that is connected to canon lore. Well, there's also Junkenstein's Revenge but it's not really canon... it's based on a fictional story told by Reinhardt in a canon story (the first Junkenstein comic).
Good episode too, been curious about Battleborn ever since it came out. I put my money down on Overwatch because I already played LoL and Overwatch seemed like the first Team Based FPS I could "get with".
when they didn't release the dlc of borderlands 2 in time, i think it was the maniac or whatever. people got it for half off when it first released, because of the like 2-3 week delay.
As someone who does't enjoy these types of games and thus wasn't following either super closely, I honestly did not notice that Battleborn and Overwatch were two different games until Overwatch's popularity exploded upon release and I was wondering why nobody I knew was ever playing as the cute steampunk fencing lady. Any time I'd see either I'd just think it was the same one game I wasn't interested in aside from a few neat character designs.
Has anyone noticed that Hillary Clinton and the Jimsaw killer have never been seen in the same room? ... Wait, no, I didn't mean anything by it! *pew* Target eliminated.
Jim - Your Brother took my girlfriend and I to the hospital recently, and he was a f*cking legend. He's really, REALLY proud of you and what you're doing, and I was chuffed to bits to have met him, knowing what you're doing for honest journalism and gaming in general. Thank you for being one of so few intellectually and literally honest journalists left in this world.
They need to stop beating around the bush and just announce Borderlands 3 already. It's the only current property thats given them longterm good sales and overall very good critical reception. They teased more to come at the end of 2. Hopefully rhey'll fix the annoying gameplay issues 2 had as well.
Yeah, but nobody gives a shit about some interview from a few years ago, release a god damn trailer, show gameplay, because the only thing that ends up mattering is the marketing and barely anything else.
I loved that game when it came out! Some weekends for a few months after release they temporarily revived it with free Steam Weekend thingies until it finally died.. Sad..
"Ugh, the Marine isn't powerful enough!" "Why isn't the Marine powerful?" "BUFF THE MARINE, IDIOTS" "All the other characters are stupid, why is Marine so bad?"
On the battleborn reddit for the first few months of the games primary existence people were constantly lining out the existence and fall of SMNC since battleborn is super similar in how it plays, gearbox wasn't listening to anyone at that stage though, I still don't really think they are, they seem to only comment on shitposts and memes.
Two weeks until Battleborn disappears forever :( I didnt get to play against other people at all. My ex showed me the game late last year and we played enough bot matches together that I got to level 100. That was a lot of games against bots and I had a bloody blast. I really wish I had a chance to play it in a reality where Randy Pitchford didnt crash the game into the ground.
As a long-time Evolve fan (yes, we do exist :P) I sympathise with the Battleborn community. Sucks when a multiplayer game you actually enjoy gets repeatedly trashed, especially when it feels like hating on your game has become a trend (whether it deserved it or not). With regards to Battleborn itself I played the open beta and decided it wasn't for me. Didn't find the gameplay all that appealing, although I did like the characters available. Lots of really cool and wacky ones.
As someone who still plays Battleborn, I really don't get how people call it dead. The game still gets relatively frequent updates, and as long as you aren't playing during graveyard hours, it only takes like 5 minutes to get a game when solo queueing.
Yeah. Most games people say are dead usually aren't. At least not completely. There are still people playing Command and Conquer 4 and that game flopped hard.
Let's be honest here, the only successful original game (not DLC/Expansion of existing game franchise) Gearbox has ever created was Borderlands, everything else... well there you go.
Wait, wait... this game CAME OUT? I remember seeing this like a year ago and thinking it seemed cool, but I NEVER EVEN CAUGHT THAT IT RELEASED. Oops on them!
I played the demo and the graphics were completely awful and I mastered a single hero in about 10 minutes. No staying power and felt like it was meant to be free to play. I'm sure it would have made more money if it was free to play.
You're a fucking fraud my dude. It's fucking bullshit to level a character to max in 10 minutes. Just tell us the truth that you watched a video. No one will judge you.
Swordfish plenty of people like this just jump on a band wagon read whatever article they find without playing the game and spew bull crap out of there mouths and just speaks negative stigma about the game like the people saying no one plays look I agree it's lacking on PC but on console I can find a match fairly quickly most ppl bought the game for console, hell I spent few hours playing it just yesterday
I actually didn't get hyped for it rly, just saw it as another game, but recently I got to play it and it was really really fun, so much so that a game I had no interest in prior is now on the top of my list for games to buy next.
andresgv10 and you get why that is, right? Blizzard has a reputation of making great, polished, quality games. They have a solid track record. That's not costumer blindness, that's trust.
Havemt realized until now that Jim used "Nothing Compares To You" as the background music for this episode. Pretty funny and fitting song for this episode.
On the one hand, it's really, _really_ shitty for Ubisoft to lie about Beyond Good and Evil 2. On the other hand... Is Beyond Good and Evil 2 actually happening now? Because that's something to be happy about. Or it would be if they didn't keep doing this shit.
I wouldn't get my hopes up just yet, this _is_ ubisoft, and they've been giving us this guff for literal years at this point. Personally I won't believe they're making it until it's released and I can hold it in my hands.
Slartibartfast: What’s your name? Arthur: Arthur F*cking Dent, son! Slartibartfast: Late, as in “The late Arthur F*cking Dentson”. It’s a sort of threat, you see.
Matthew Walton Were you grouping all corporations as a GROUP! YESSSSSSSSSSS!!! YOU DUMB FUCK!! hahaha, you don't need to SINGLE one out, cause you already grouped them as the same, and put this comment underneath a GEARBOX video.....You spazz! ahhaha
Matthew Walton so what didn't you understand? ahhaha!! You really are something special, how's the short bus? I hear it breaks down alot....corporations just can't build a working handicap....hahaha!!
Evolve was "saved" and then stomped into the ground by the very developers/publishers that tried to save it. In a few words - they substantially increased the prices in the in-game shop (~x3 times), without warning anyone in advance. Basically made majority of the savings worthless. And put a pretty mean wall of grinding for newer players to overcome if they want to get anything. I see the pattern here, pattern being - 2K. In a hindsight, was 2K at any given point of time good publisher? Borderlands 2 success was mostly developers work. And now that we see a string of botched games, we can grade their publishing department.
You know that a F2P needs to still make money, right? So of course they need some form of monetization, so they could make everything on a rotation and the rest "buy only" or add a long grind for it so players have a choice.
Ethan Redding Actually, I think this is what Randy did mean with "trial" version. Like, every player gets a certain rotation of characters and if you want to have access to every hero when you want, you have to buy the base game
Poor Battleborn, if they released before or after Overwatch it might have been successful. It seems like a classic Gearbox game of mad people being mad. I think Paladins will do better than Battleborn in the long run. That being said, it should have been free with microtransactions from the start so it would dominate the market as a trend setter rather than it looking like it copied other ganes.
Frankly, Battleborn should have been released a minimum 6+ months before Overwatch, because it needed to punch up from the outset, and had to have enough time to gain momentum to even have a chance of being competitive.
"kicked shitless by Overwatch" is a bit of an unfair statement as it implies Overwatch was even trying to compete with it. Are we forgetting the part where the folks behind Battleborne started twiter fights with Blizzard over how great Battleborne was going to be? I don't care for anything Battleborne has to offer but in its defense, it is a very different beast than Overwatch and should have been treated as such. Instead of using that fact in their marketing, Gearbox found it to be a good idea to show off and compare their game directly to Overwatch and claim to be the superior product. It's their own fault that the consumers thought it looked similar to Overwatch because Gearbox made a direct effort to compare the two themselves. Had Gearbox cared less about their own edgy, in-your-face company image and more about the image of their game, Battleborne might not have ended up as such a shit show. People don't root for you and your games because you project yourself as the "no fucks given" bad boy. They stand behind you for releasing quality games and providing proper support for said games. Proper support includes proper marketing that actually highlights what makes the game unique doesn't insert itself into a competition that doesn't even exist. That's not how you get your game to stand out. It just makes your game look like a try-hard copycat when you throw it up against a company that's several times larger than you.
R.I.P Battlborn 2016-2016
"We just wanted to make you happy"
They could... by redoing Colonial Marines the way it was shown in the demo.
TGX "we better do borderlands 3"
Borderlands 3! With more obnoxiously forced memes, and dubstep! And don't forget motherfucking claptrap!
On the contrary, Claptrap is the worst thing about those games. Anytime I think "I might play some Borderlands" and I hear that incessant twit bleating once started, I close the game straight away and move onto something else.
where's the source vid?
"Hell, IGN gave it a 7.1, which is basically the lowest score a game can get there."
Damn, Jim. Gonna have to start calling you "Savage Sterling."
And then Fallout 76 took that as a challenge.
"Because Blizzard can do no wrong in the eyes of the public."
Oh boy did THAT age poorly.
I was about to make that comment, GG good sire/madam
Unfortunately, seems like vast majority of people have already forgotten that little "mishap". Or they just don't care. 😐
TheJunnutin most likely forgot, given how forgetful or narrow minded people are nowadays
@@TheJunnutin Don't worry they already fucked up again.
Yeah, fuck Hong kong
This is why I don't do multiplayer-focused games, as soon as the community fades you're left with a borderline unplayable game.. I feel for everyone who enjoyed the game, you should be able to enjoy it for years to come not just for that brief launch window.
0lionheart battleborn pc has about 200 players. most of em are in contact with each other, forming mini communities and Forums for comp matches.
and there is still Story and Bot Match.
Both Modes witch wont get stale ( for me )
i bought this game about 2-3 months ago for under 10€ on MMOGA and played nearly 210 hours. Its great
Zenturio That's pretty awesome, it's good to hear people are still making it work.
It's funny, with how recent this all was, once could say this disaster was Battleborn Yesterday!
DID YOU JUST.......
That is an A-class zinger, sir. Well done.
Liam Nelson HE JUST
No way did he just...
"I don't get it."
DAMNIT!!! This game had so much stuff that most shooters today REFUSE to add to their games. Split screen mode, Campaign mode, MOBA-like elements. I'm so afraid all this is going to do is tell future game devs that "Customers don't want that in their shooters." When that's what I've been waiting for! DX
The general gaming public are fickle, retarded assholes with absolutely no clue what they want from a game.
So no, looking at the numbers people technically don't know what they want.
inbrud1111 Ever consider that people know exactly what they want, and developers don't know how to deliver?
Dalion Heart i'm pretty sure i have way better insight on this since i've actually worked with this. The numbers usually say the opposite it's just a low vocal percent of people that think they speak for everyone. As much as the developers want to push for 60 fps over better graphics the producers push i nthe other direction for the sake of sale numbers.
I get the impression Jim might not like Randy Pitchford
Now that you mention it, by golly you're right! Keen observation skills, good sir!
Rawbeard He's had some run-ins with him, I believe
Y'mean, "Jimpression?"
No one does though.
your powers of observation serve you well
This is the first time I'm hearing of this game, and this was two entire years ago... I think marketing was pretty low on the to-do list.
Really the only time I heard of it outside of the Jimquisition was one single poster at one single GameStop. And even then I thought it was a toy game like Disney Infinity or Skylanders (which in hindsight would’ve been cool, I’d buy those for desk toys).
It didn't help that Overwatch had their timetable moved up to crush Battleborn.
No one expects a second Jimquisition!
It's like the Spanish Inquisition! ;)
So what are Jim's primary weapons, besides surprise and fear?
Probably Pogs. Maybe Boglins.
Is its chief weapon suprise? Suprise and fear? And ruthless efficiency? An almost fanatical devition to the pope? And nice red uniforms?
Is it wrong of me to find Randy Pitchfords tears hilarious?
No
Maybe?
Good, now we have all possible answers collected.
Wait what? He actually produced tears? I thought he was faking it 100% 😂
yes
I grabbed it off a humble bundle sale, the 2K bundle to be specific, it was up for 15 bucks, and that's including other games in the bundle. I think that's a even larger slap in the face for those who bought it for 65 dollars on day one. The PC has less than 300 players per day globally and looking for a match in countries other than USA or Europe take at least 2 hours. The upside is that with such a small player base, the community have some of the friendliest people who are willing to help new players. 2k didn't handle battleborn well at all but it is a great game that has a great if small community.
Those player numbers are insane, how is that even possible? It's about the same as Goat Simulator..
steamcharts.com/app/394230 is what I used to check the amount of players on PC, honestly finding matches on discord is the easiest way so far.
Well it is 2K, they aren't exactly...what's the word I'm looking for?
Bob jones
I'm glad I play on console
If Battleborn were released today, January 21, 2018, it might actually be able to succeed. Maybe even be known as the go-to for anyone pissed at Overwatch and its countless expensive skins and its exploitative loot box system.
NOBODY EXPECTS THE BONUS JIMQUISITION!!!
hehe...
To be fair, if Jim started a video speaking Spanish, I would be pretty shocked.
clever reference m8
I literally never heard of Battleborn until a week before release. That says enough
It says that you're a freaking casual that doesn't read gaming news :D?
Not hearing about every shit game makes you a casual now? Do I also have to memorize every new shitty steam greenlight game so that I'm not a casual?
"News"
It really only says that Gearbox did a crap job advertising a great game.
***** Oh yeah, that makes more sense actually, my bad. ^^;
*sigh* Man I feel bad for Battleborn...I was one of the sorry idiots that bought it at launch because I genuinely wanted to support it...after about 2 months I bought Overwatch because thats what everyone is playing now...
It's just a shame that Overwatch is fucking shit.
250 active players in the last 24 hours is considered pretty dead
This is such a depressing tale. I like Battleborn and prefer it over its counterparts (Overtwatch, TF2 and the ilk) for multitude of reasons; It has a campaign with a solo mode, the characters are very creative, art style is lovely and, most importantly, it has Toby. And I love Toby.
Sadface.
A moment of silence for Toby & Berg.
Logical Juan
I'd like someone to post a game jam for it. I don't have it, but I'd like to see good shit from it anyway.
Logical Juan would you be willing to game sometime? I've been looking for others to play it with.
do you still play battleborn? I just bought the deluxe edition today and I want someone to play it with
Connor Ringland I still do.
Whats your name on ps4?
Overwatch saw so much success because its a Blizzard game.
Yes, but not ONLY because of the name. It's also an awesome game and positive word-of-mouth is still selling the thing.
I would disagree, but I'll respect your opinon.
No, it was because it's a really good game
yeah id agree with that...
But still. I'd say it's more the fact that the personalities for the OW characters is simplistic enough for people to quickly latch onto more than anything else.
yeah but, look at how much personality was on display from the trailers alone
we got 1, maybe 2 battleborn trailer.
Go watch bootcamp trailer, it has so much personality, it will make you vomit rainbows.
"What really sucks is that it was a good bloody game"
Jim, THANK YOU. Thank you thank, for someone to finally acknowledge that the game was good, it means so freaking much to me cause I freaking adore this game, and i have gotten nothing but crap for liking it.
Just....thank you so much for calling this game "good"...
Feed refresh, BAM, bonus Jimquisition. I failed a math test and lost my girlfriend just a few hours ago, day instantly turned around
Ian White that sucks ,hang in there bro
Daniel Herrera that profile pic tho
I'm sorry to hear about that man, stay strong
Stay optimistic, old chap. Crappy days only make great days feel better.
u alright, man?
Gearbox reaps what they sow. Karma is a bitch - and now Randy Pitchford knows it.
So a new team gets punished for what another did. Great. Goes to show the name carries more weight than the actual people. Guess if Blizzard shit in a bag and put a price tag on it, it would sell a million copies only for the Blizzard logo stamped on the bag.
+Ben Noland I can see where the rage is coming from that statement was pretty dumb
Rational Ginger oh fuck off you edgy hipster fuck
+Lightscribe225 As sad as it is, yes, the name does carry more weight. People don't have the time or care to see who leaves and who joins a company unless its the head honcho.
Where is that "We just wanted to make you happy" quote taken from?
Battleborn failed because there wasn't enough fan-generated Battleporn to accompany it... probably because the bulk of its characters did not make decent waifu material... especially compared to Overwatch...
Is because Blizzard is a bigger company, whenever they make a game is not just a game, is ''Blizzard presents...''
Fuck yeah, waifus ftw.
I have arrived at a time which is considered to be fairly recent to the release of this video. In response to this phenomena and due to the popularity of such practices as commenting, I must debate with myself as to what to say. Perhaps a comedic and or ironic statement which some individuals find entertaining?
There is always an alternative option of simply stating the order of your comment, this is, however, frowned upon.

Honestly the art style was why the main reason people disliked the game. Too much going on and looked horrible in videos and streams.
Turn5ignal It is definetly easier to know whats happening when you are playing, but fairly hard to see regardless.
You do realize you can do PUBLIC story mode to level....stop with the self-loathing. Idiot! LOL
yeah because soloing story mode is fun... idiot! LOL
And who are all recording on twitch. (I believe this is actually true, too lazy to confirm).
The number of streamers dip into DOUBLE DIGITS on some days.
Holy shit, Overwatch better look out!
ToxicWolf1132
I think more people stream Huniepop than Battleborn FFS
5persondude you can't all pick the same character in battleborn
Wait, Randy Pitchford hasn't blocked you on Twitter?! I'd have thought he blocked *everyone* on Twitter by now!
He's blocked me twice even!
JUST twice? Man, that's very underwhelming...
What did you do this time?
So Jim...about a certain developer who got destroyed and was forced to put their lawsuit on hold..
Are you still encouraged to not speak of them?
I bet the second one cancelled out the first one!
it had so so so much potential... but HUR DUR LETS RELEASE IT RIGHT NEXT TO OVERWATCH THATLL BOOST SALES
That's Randy Pitchford for ya. A former school bully with narcissism.
Also, let's sell it for $60, while Overwatch sells for $40. That's gonna help!
That song at 15:00 is from a show called Allo, allo, right?
Made me feel quite nostalgic, actually. I have never particularly liked the show, but it certainly wasn't bad.
Listen very carefully, I will say this only once. For reasons.
'Allo, Allo' was the bomb! Not as good as Dad's Army, but still.
Krešimir Jurilj I was just about to say that. Well done!
*Edith:* Tonight I will sing as I have never sung before!
*René:* What, in tune?
Honestly, the story of battle born will never fail to make me sad. Seriously, I freaking loved that game when it first came out. It was great, and I can still name a few of the characters now. I would happily use magic to steal the success of fifa or something, if I was just allowed to give it to battle born. It deserved better
For those keeping track at home, it's 2021 and beyond good and evil 2 Still doesn't exist.. it's been 13 years now since the teaser dropped. Pre production sure takes a while...
Gearbox finally got its karmatic comeuppance for Duke Nukem Forever and ALIEns Colonial Marines.
Maybe they'll make a borderlands that's fun to play with your friends now/
But DNF was a mess from a 12 year Development hell(Purgatory?) with a hype that NO GAME could have lived up to, and Colonial Marines was passed off to a handfull of other parties...
The real killing blow for Battleborn was it's lack of waifu. Gotta have that waifu factor.
PootieWienerfish yeah the character designs didn't have much of an attraction factor compared to Overwatch. I still like'em though.
overwatch had the butts. gotta have the butts.
PootieWienerfish Thorn though, and that other angry elf
Waifu appeal is what keeps the anime industry alive.
OK, that's not a really good thing. The anime industry is creatively bankrupt because of it.
Bullshit. Mechanically and artistically they are nothing alike, save for them both being bright and cartoony.
This is 100% true, these games are only alike on the very surface, as someone that during beta believed battleborn to be the better game in terms of mechanics, I can attest to them being very different
Jim Sterling thank god for you!
I actually like Battleborn's look better than Overwatch.
No its not, fuck off...
But seriously, have you even played the game? I can tell you haven't, from this comment alone.
Hey jim
This guy is the first viewer of this video. I am the second to view it.
The Freebooter cool beans
The Freebooter or maybe the comments were loaded after the view count, like they usually are.
It was on one view with this as the only comment.
9:51 Dammit, I've spent weeks making this why didn't anyone warn me? *throws away bungee rope made of decaying human penises*
What was the clip of the guy crying, saying, "we just wanted to make you guys happy" from?
it was randy pitchford at an interview
typical pitchford
That was Randy? Wow. He, Molyneux and the Amazing Invisible Sean Murray should take their show on the road.
That's Randy Pitchford, I think.
I'm pretty sure that it was fake crying for the record, context is important guys. It just makes a helluva sound bite.
I honestly don't see the appeal in multiplayer shooters so I'm just listening to this video while playing Dark Souls.
I'm wrapping up ng+13 right now myself.
I'm also playing Dark Souls right now
I'm fighting Bed of Chaos blind for the first time, it isn't going well
I love the souls series, but having people to play with/against in a multiplayer shooter environment is enjoyable, especially if you don't suck.
neat.
honestly battleborn is more fun than overwatch and the characters are fun. while overwatch is solid honestly its just not fun with the characters being sandblasted stereotypes and the game modes are boring.
"I will not stop until every shirt on this planet is tucked the f@#$ in."

Such a damn shame, Battleborn is better than Paladins in every way.
DrIvanRadosivic Should say "In my opinion" instead. Could piss some people off.
PeriWinkle if someone puts it in a comment from there perspective, that makes it an opinion and it doesn't need to be stated lol.
Battleborn, more like BattleDEAD, HA!....
I am very sad, I liked the game, humor is a coping mechanism. Don't judge me...
Poor job mate.
Battle stillborn.
It works better with the title, flows better, and better to describe how it was dead on arrival since all the docs were playing overwatch instead of delivering it.
"They're dead! Ahahahaha!.. Eh.. I'm sorry, laughter is how Boldur grieves."
lol, what's this from? Funny quote.
Battleborn in fact, immediately thought of it from the original comment.
Oh wow. That's kinda ironic...
Your disclosure is appreciated Jim. Thanks for doing your due diligence.
Honestly, my biggest problem with battleborn is the graphical style, it looks like a mobile game. I wish they just stuck with borderlands' style. it's both more complex and visually pleasing
Are you real`?????
Spiked-Wall Man Yes, I do in fact exist
Whiskey has some more visual cues that tie him to other characters, but I don't want to spoil it. It took me ages to see why people said they (clones) were the same race as some of the other non human characters. Probably because I don't have too much of those characters' lore yet.
I just started unlocking Mike's, but Orendi is pulling me away.
>> For a game that pushes its story and style so much, I have to say, much of it is truly terrible
Nah, you have nothing to say.
I just said that my computer easily run Overwatch on Medium and High settings at 60, down to a minimum of 45 during teamfights. Try harder.
No thanks, consoles don't appeal to me, and I already have a job.
I guess I'll just settle for playing a good game instead of Battleborn.
Battleborn's Winter Update has made the game SO much better.
Honestly say what you will about Gearbox, but real programmers and artists put a huge amount of work and effort into Battleborn, all to have it go down in flames not because they did an explicitly bad job, but largely because of releasing in the wrong place at the wrong time. That's a shitty hand to be dealt. I know there will always be casualties in business, but it doesn't make it any less of a bummer.
damn Jim you beautiful boy! Thank's for Jimquisition before sleep.
That's "#1 Kissboy" to you, sir!
Zap Gun hell yeah! I had good sleep, all thanks to Jim Fuckin Sterling son!
MocnyBrowarek Thank God for Jim.
Battleborn proves the value of marketing (e.g shilling, hype, "reviews", etc).
Can I get the name of the music usually playing in the background while Jim talks pls
We are number one - Robbie Rotten.
Sir Musty Yup, it's March of the sterling jester, thanks!
(For some reason your comment is flagged as "spam" and I get an error when I say it's not spam)
Why do you get triggered by My Little Pony avatars?
Pardon me, sir, but your avatar had triggered me.
Why do you get triggered by My Little Pony avatars? I hope you can see my comment now lol
If you had an older comment we still can't see it.
we need one of these post-mortem of " Fire Fall "
((This post is going to very lengthy with pretty much zero-new-info, and lots of repetition of mine from parts of the internet; I just like writing a lot because that's how I function.))
Right at the start of 2014 (even before the release) the game gradually become worse and worse (especially when they first made the thumping / mining to be the very-only-source for printing / crafting-materials and quick-missions become the very-only-source for the crystite / money.
Well, okay maybe it wasn't as "black-and-white" as I described here. But point is that they simply forced players to specific things instead of having the freedom to whatever they want and still get almost everything).
((And this time I don't even delve into the removal of the arena-PvP-section and the "server / region"-jumping-addon being disabled and making their automatic-system even worse (latter being one of the major reason that "killed-off" the PvP since the matchmaking didn't happen cross-region / server, or even cross zone-channel / shard.)))
And the "release"-version (August 2014) was a complete 900-degrees-turn gameplay and such-wise:
- Gone was the complex yet simple enough equipment-system with interesting "Horizontal"-balance in which all equipments were viable; now it is just the plain old "no-brainer" level-based gear in which the biggest number is the best.
But then again, I also had gotten used to "limited-usage"-weapons in various games already, most obvious one being "(Project) Entropia Universe", in which majority of the equipments simply cannot be required at all, but you could get the 1% item-value of the "deposit" out them by selling them to (NPC) Trade-Terminals, or as I have nicknamed them "Reverse vending machines".))
- Gone is the constant invasions of the strategic-posts which required defending from invasion-forces or else you'd might lose a really good mining-area temporarily; now it is just the level-zoned areas that keeps you "kicking out" whenever you're either too low levelled (by making the enemies immune to your attacks E.G: like in say Borderlands and even doesn't give you XP-rewards (at least in my experiences))
Or it outright makes you "down-levelled" when entering the zone you're over-leveled within (okay, it kinda is like "Spiral Knights", but it's still done far more worse.
((For a reminder, supposedly Mark Kern hadn't been in creative control for the whole 2013 before the resignation / leaving the studio at the start of 2014.))
Worst thing about this release-version: It was tested behind semi-closed doors.
((In a somewhat similar fashion what happened with "Dead Island Epidemic", but me thing they on purpose sabotaged the run-performance in order to pull of the "flop-scheme" (I personally highly recommend for Mel Brook's "The Producers"-movie & Uwe Boll to understand better this scheme; it is still surprisingly unknown even today considering "it's been there since always).))
yeah... since they destroyed the bastion because of some cockmongering "abusers" it's quite dead for me. and it didn't have that much players anyway... enjoyed it a lot though. have seen it when it was shown on gamescom in 2010 or 2011 i think and was allowed as tester shortly after that. but seriously, completely changing how a class plays and making it just HORRIBLE is something a dev should never do **looking at star conflict here too...**
adding things and new ways to play: awesome. taking away everything that's fun and replacing it by a steaming pile of shit: awful
I feel really bad for people who invested money into Firefall.
Battleborn should have simply been delayed until the Christmas season so that some of the Overwatch hype had time to die down.
Well, I knew I had to watch it, and I knew it was going to make me depressed, but man did that hurt.
I'm going to go play some Battleborn now.
Me too...
ps4?
Personally, I just dislike the art style that Battleborn went for.
That, I can understand. I feel that way about Overwatch.
NatsumeRyu same
I feel TF2 did the cartoon art style right. overwatch, paladins, and battle borne all look like clown vomit.
Speaking of making something out of decayed human penises, everyone should check out the NSFW webcomic "Oglaf".
Oh yes! That comic is one of the best things on the internet.
NeoShinGundam a
Zomboy123456789 I guess the SM evil sorceress from Oglaf would approve of your comment lol.
Zomboy123456789 LOL! ;-D
Also one night the sorceress's apprentice wakes up to a huge spider giving him a blowjob. The spider says "Oh, I usually inject you with something to keep you asleep, I must have forgotten this time".
Then it leaves through the window...
Best thing you can say about UBI-Soft is... at least they are not EA!
Eh, ubisoft is wordls worse than ea. At least EA is honest with how shitty it is. Ubisoft hypes everyone up for a pile of polished turds.
At least Ubisoft isn't as bad as WB?
At least EA has origin, which is better than Uplay and the FUCKERS HAVE KNOW THAT THE CREW CAN TAKE FOREVER TO INSTALL, AND HAVE DONE NOTHING TO FIX IT FOR A YEAR, EVEN WHEN RELEASING THE THING FOR FREE! Don't get the crew, Uplay is shit and the crew is riddled with technical issues.
But what does it say when Ubicock is getting a regular Jimquisition feature before EA?
Jimboola Honestly, I'd argue Ubisoft is worse these days. EA's kept their heads down, the last big transgression being Sims 4 being crap compared to Sims 3.
Jim, i believe _Mythbusters_ proved lead balloons work. find another expression to describe how _Battleborn_ had no lasting endurance...
Like a solid lead balloon, no air inside..
CleverGoblin 171 well, he didn't say "solid." my point still stands...
A reverse lead balloon where the air is on the outside and the lead within.
Malice Flare How about Platinum Balloons?
Up like a certain game dev's cock when they found out they could just sue people with dissenting opinions
Thank God For You Stephanie
Not to mention it's not dead/dying so it will continue getting content regardless on top of all this.
>> there's more likeable characters
The word you were looking for is "fаppable", that's the only advantage OW's characters have against BB's.
I'll be honest, I always wait for extra episodes of The Jimquisition for the Sax Cover at the beginning. It's so good.
Good episode too, been curious about Battleborn ever since it came out. I put my money down on Overwatch because I already played LoL and Overwatch seemed like the first Team Based FPS I could "get with".
where's that footage for Pitchford from?
Where he's whining "God, we really tried! We just wanted to make you happy"
when they didn't release the dlc of borderlands 2 in time, i think it was the maniac or whatever. people got it for half off when it first released, because of the like 2-3 week delay.
*pew* Target eliminated.
that's cause the jimsaw killer is donald trump
That's some next-fucking level detective work right there.
Adam Poole But we have seen Donald Trump and the Jimsaw killer together. I mean he was on stage debating it.
mattbenz99 Reviews no we haven't .. insane trump was on stage with equally insane hilary clinton..
Adam Poole But can we be sure?
They already announced it a looooong time ago?
Yeah, but nobody gives a shit about some interview from a few years ago, release a god damn trailer, show gameplay, because the only thing that ends up mattering is the marketing and barely anything else.
nah that moon sequel or whatever that forgettable shit thing was called killed it man
winslo o The Presequel was decent,I don't think it killed anything other than 2k australia
honestly, borderands 3 was one of the best game I ever played
“Because Blizzard can do no wrong in the eyes of the public.”
AAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAHAHAHAHA
Literally just about to post that. This has not aged well. Lol
I knew there would be one.
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
can i get the name of the song that begins at around 1:49
plzkthx
whats the song at the start?
Born Depressed saxophone cover :)
Super sad. I had and have no interest in the game but I've been through this with SMNC, it's a rough thing.
You mean that minigame to get hats for TF2? :V
On the battleborn reddit for the first few months of the games primary existence people were constantly lining out the existence and fall of SMNC since battleborn is super similar in how it plays, gearbox wasn't listening to anyone at that stage though, I still don't really think they are, they seem to only comment on shitposts and memes.
gigitrix I FEEL YOU BROTHER, TO THE VERY BONE
Two weeks until Battleborn disappears forever :(
I didnt get to play against other people at all.
I am a evolve fan and i liked battleborn.
"Only 5 minutes" I don't mean that in an antagonizing way, but by game standards that is pretty dead for a non graveyard hours time.
It certainly isn't healthy, but what I'm saying is it isn't quite dead yet. There are also fairly regular 10-mans on the discord, so that helps too.
and it takes me 10 seconds to find a match on solo q in Overwatch. Lol
Really? It usually takes me a couple minutes. Then again, I haven't played in a while. Did they change something?
At 1:41 when Randy said that, where is that from?
It's so strange how Paladins will probably achieve more success in the long run.
The Allo Allo music for Oh Ubisoft is fucking hilarious.
Can anyone tell me what the image at 6:57 is from?
This is a perfect example of how a shitty PR and sales departments of a company can fuck up a perfectly fine game that could have been a hit.
Let's be honest here, the only successful original game (not DLC/Expansion of existing game franchise) Gearbox has ever created was Borderlands, everything else... well there you go.
Being a DLC for HL sort of rules OpFor out from the whole "original game" thing that Corey clearly stated there.
They did Brothers in Arms
What's that music starting around 10:50 ?
Wait, wait... this game CAME OUT? I remember seeing this like a year ago and thinking it seemed cool, but I NEVER EVEN CAUGHT THAT IT RELEASED. Oops on them!
Nope. I don't have much time to play games, but I'm shocked I didn't catch anything from my usual media sources. Just didn't hit the radar.
I wish i could getmy money back for this game.
Bk Big Fish i wish my dad would come back from the store
still getting that pack of cigarettes?
Bk Big Fish tell me about it
Bk Big Fish I would regret it less if I got this instead of nms
What's the music that starts at 9:54? Is it music from Battleborn?
No, that's "Nothing compares 2 U" by Sinead O'Connor. Just without the vocals.
Ah, thanks, not sure why I didn't make the connection, I like that song.
I played the demo and the graphics were completely awful and I mastered a single hero in about 10 minutes. No staying power and felt like it was meant to be free to play. I'm sure it would have made more money if it was free to play.
And battleborn was NOTHING like overwatch; but when I told people that the demo felt like a free to play game, I got hate for it.
DommY CS you can't Master a hero in 10min what a load of bull shit
You're a fucking fraud my dude. It's fucking bullshit to level a character to max in 10 minutes. Just tell us the truth that you watched a video. No one will judge you.
Swordfish plenty of people like this just jump on a band wagon read whatever article they find without playing the game and spew bull crap out of there mouths and just speaks negative stigma about the game like the people saying no one plays look I agree it's lacking on PC but on console I can find a match fairly quickly most ppl bought the game for console, hell I spent few hours playing it just yesterday
i've never played overwatch but saw lots of gameplays and its like "mmmmble", i dont get all the hype that game got
It's the first New I.P. out of Blizzard in years. Also, it was made from the remains of their scrapped Titan MMO shooter.
The hype? It's a really good game when you play it. That might be what the hype is about.
I actually didn't get hyped for it rly, just saw it as another game, but recently I got to play it and it was really really fun, so much so that a game I had no interest in prior is now on the top of my list for games to buy next.
It's because of the brand. People see Blizzard logo => people buy whatever this product is.
andresgv10 and you get why that is, right? Blizzard has a reputation of making great, polished, quality games. They have a solid track record. That's not costumer blindness, that's trust.
Havemt realized until now that Jim used "Nothing Compares To You" as the background music for this episode. Pretty funny and fitting song for this episode.
On the one hand, it's really, _really_ shitty for Ubisoft to lie about Beyond Good and Evil 2.
On the other hand... Is Beyond Good and Evil 2 actually happening now? Because that's something to be happy about. Or it would be if they didn't keep doing this shit.
*Fans:* We're ready for you to stick it in.
[Years of Foreplay Later]
*Ubisoft:* I'm sorry, this never happens to me. Let me start over.
I wouldn't get my hopes up just yet, this _is_ ubisoft, and they've been giving us this guff for literal years at this point. Personally I won't believe they're making it until it's released and I can hold it in my hands.
Eon2641
Even then you'd need to wait until after the first couple of patches.
Unless you don't mind seeing Jade with a case of invisiface.
Camkitsune Fair point, like I said this _is_ ubisoft, I should know better.
How... iconic of Ubisoft.
Overwatch has Mei. Thats why I prefer overwatch.
Mei a shit
:(
FireBomberBassist You misspelled Mercy. Although I would rather have Mei over the female Battleborn characters because they are not appealing to me.
+11coltfan1 Overwatch characters look so cliche...
Most of them do. I think it was intentional. They fit certain character tropes to a T.
1:41 Where can I find this video?
Can you narrate The Hitchhicker's Guide To The Galaxy? I'd pay for it!
Slartibartfast: What’s your name?
Arthur: Arthur F*cking Dent, son!
Slartibartfast: Late, as in “The late Arthur F*cking Dentson”. It’s a sort of threat, you see.
The Servers for Battleborn are shutting down in 2021
I hate all corporations equally.
Yeah cause GEARBOX and 2K is a GROUP of companies authorized to act as a single body and recognized as such by the law....FAIL! FACE PALM
mrtoolegittoquit2 was I singling out Gearbox and 2K? Noooo.
Matthew Walton Were you grouping all corporations as a GROUP! YESSSSSSSSSSS!!! YOU DUMB FUCK!! hahaha, you don't need to SINGLE one out, cause you already grouped them as the same, and put this comment underneath a GEARBOX video.....You spazz! ahhaha
Do you have anything actually worth saying? No. Do you only have weak insults to throw at me instead of anything intelligent? Yes.
Matthew Walton so what didn't you understand? ahhaha!! You really are something special, how's the short bus? I hear it breaks down alot....corporations just can't build a working handicap....hahaha!!
Well the game could go free-to-play...... It saved evolve so why not battleborn
Well, "saved" is the wrong word if you look at Steam charts
steamcharts.com/app/273350#6m
Apparently EVOLVE is SAVED.....LMAO at the numbers above. And this is why I laugh at the F2P argument, cause of numbskulls like JAMES NUB!
Ethan Redding
Actually, I think this is what Randy did mean with "trial" version.
Thank Jim for slamming Ubisoft. It's just plain shit with Uplay and other shitty ubosofty things AND CAN UBISOFT JUST DIE ALREADY?
Frankly, Battleborn should have been released a minimum 6+ months before Overwatch, because it needed to punch up from the outset, and had to have enough time to gain momentum to even have a chance of being competitive.
They released several weeks earlier, it just so happened that Overwatch's Open Beta started on BB's release date...
Acrox Shadow The open beta was free and therefore got all the attention.
The Freebooter and it was Overwatch, so of course that would be getting the attention anyway.
What is that video of Randy PItchford crying? I can't find it anywhere.
ilysm Jim
As do I. thank God for him
As do I. thank God for him
Thank the Jim Fucking Sterling Son.
that never gets old
"kicked shitless by Overwatch" is a bit of an unfair statement as it implies Overwatch was even trying to compete with it.
Jim how do you determine which intro to use. I just have to know.
Is "Oh, Ubisoft~" the filler for when Konami somehow hasn't managed to fuck up since the last Jimquisition?
I hope we get both when Konabisoft cocks up at the same time.
