The very first thing you should have done is drill a hole or make a hole with the soldering iron at the end of the crack in the bumper. That will stop the crack spreading further up the bumper.
I have used the hole drilling method on fixed fiber glass bodies to slow cracks. The problem with drilling a hole is that it is near impossible to judge how far exactly the origins thereof go. Plus in this case drilling isn’t needed to begin with, because everything was ‘closed’ fixed here.
I used to do this on a regular basis for an auto auction. I actually fixed a golf ball size hole in a durango bumper but i just used plastic rods to fill cracks and on the hole i used a piece i cut out of a disregarded bumper.
Thanks, I haven't worked with a "welding" approach, like this. But anyway, my method, of late, is take shipping tape and fiberglass cloth .. apply the tape to the cloth, thus keeping the cloth fibers from sliding, or moving around, making a stable cloth strip .. and then use ample amount of JB weld, to the crack area, and apply this cloth/tape strip over the top, of the adhesive, and the crack. Use some kneading pressure to work the adhesive into glass fibers, and perhaps use some clamping pressure during the entire cure time. After it's set up, .. peel off the tape. The glass adhesive soaked surface should be pretty smooth, and sandable, if you prefer. Most likely this is stronger, than the surrounding area. There is the disadvantage of this having a raised patch appearance, though .. IF that's even important.
Thank You so much! Fiberglass fabric is a great material for repairing cracks. It is a good choice, but there are also many different methods to repair a plastic crack, depending on the existing conditions to take different measures.
You can achieve as good if not better result by using the pointed tip to weld the plastic together, then covering the area with epoxy. If you want added strength, weld another piece of plastic on the inside. Much faster than all of this, and works better.
As someone who has tried to do this and failed a few times 😂 I like the aluminum tape as well as the modified solder tip. The staples are nice because they’re just a common thing that you’d have on hand. Very nice! The graphite was intriguing though! Was that liquid acetone? And was the purpose for strength or for the finishing with sandpaper?
Pvc works on pvc, not on poly or abs. And you have to prepare surfaces properly (per instructions). Cure repair per instructions to justify the expense of repair.
@@DWG8 I would apply a fiber reinforced epoxy backing for structural support (and to a lesser degree, fill the void.) Then I would apply filler to the outside, sand & paint. Very easy, and pretty quick, aside from waiting for the epoxies to cure.
Thank you for the video I like it hope you bring up more videos like this congratulations you did a good job everybody has its own to technique to do the job keep going

There’s a tool that separates staples much easier than pliers. It’s called a stapler.
yes but i don't have it. thanks for sharing
LoL 😂 You're funny, You're funny not smart have a think what you said.
I thought it was called a fingernail 😜
A stapler can separate staples?

So far. It's an idea. Or ways to handle. Comes before. To my opinion... Bravo

Interesting version. Seen better ones though. But still you achieved the results you needed.👌
Thank You so much!
the human brain is wonderful 👍
Clever, thorough job. I’ll remember this…
JB Weld, sand, paint. Done.
yes but where this is, they may not have easy access to epoxies and fillers so they make do
Not all plastics stick or bond with JB Weld, haven't done it with a bumper yet but may work
My thoughts are $ vs time.
To me it'd be cheaper to buy if the item is available. But... excellent job!
Jb weld don’t work In Thailand they make a device and the s type metal to weld plastic apparently this guy never seen before
C'est trés impressionnant, chapeau a toi. Merci
Merci

Different polymers in that type of plastic. I believe those were styrene plastic. Quite different from ABS plastic.
amazing thanks for the details !
Sei veramente bravo grazie

Enjoyed watching..super glue mixed with baking soda is a hard joint repair...but it works what you did ...staples were a good idea
Ingeniosa idea.
Felicitaciones
Go to your local plumbing store, buy some pvc cement and use that to glue the crack, It's a solvent used to "weld" pvc pipes to each other.
