My Dad and I saw this in the theater. I was 18 in 1974 when this and "Young Frankenstein" came out. We would think of scenes and just start laughing. My mother didn't get our sense of humor. When "Blazing Saddles" comes on today and I get the chance to watch it, I look to the Heavens and say "our movie is on Dad" and I laugh hysterically just like I always do. One of my best memories of me and my Dad!
No u.
Same for me. Dad and I and my cousin lmao. Mom and aunt and sister said. Too gross! My wife now says that. Women. Go figure
I watched this with my late father, on TV in 1979. He and I were crying with laughter - just like you, it's one of my fondest memories of him.
I've seen this scene a hundred times and it still cracks me up.
It's the knock on boarded worse that gets me 🤣🤣
I will never forget the laughter in the movie theatre during this scene. Memories.
👋🤣👍hahahaha lmfao! I can imagine!
When the late, great Gene Wilder passed away, AMC Theater in Town Square (Las Vegas, NV) played both "Willy Wonka" and this movie. I kid you not, the theater was jammed packed with people and all were laughing their rears off during every scene if this classic... but this scene alone... there wasn't a quiet person in the theater hahahahahaha
Me either, crude, but oh so hilarious. Mel Brooks is a genius. I love baked beans. Just have to stay away from public places for awhile
@@rachelgarber1423 haha!
it's your generation. my generation was Frank Drebin keeping his mic on while going to the toilet. lol
Gives a whole new meaning to blazing saddles....
I always thought they should have made the camp fire flare up during this scene.
Lmao that and they all should have eaten a ton of beans and gassed out the new sherriff until he died of asphyxiation lmao 😂
👋🤣👍
Yaaaas lol
Lol! That would have been perfect.
It might actually have added to the realism, but this film isnt about that anyway, ha ha.
Fun fact... first farts ever heard in a major Hollywood motion picture.
Surely that should read fun fart...lol
It broke ground…and broke wind! 💨
Its still outstanding! In the Fall, when we had the gathering and to market, yes, had those fires and those facts. As Grandpa said,."it's all natural"
I heard that! 🤣💨
Then it was caddyshack, the. Joysticks...lol.😂😂😂
Drive in theater, you could hear every car burst into laughter. One of the best gags ever tottaly unexpected.
I was 14. This was somthing in the movie you wanted to tell everyone about but didn't want to spoil the surprise.
Has to be the very first movie to make light of farts around a camp fire eating beans.
Make light. As in light all the farts!
Almost 50 years later and it's still funny. The whole movie is still funny!
Kids who are 20 and in college find everything in it offensive and racist and are probably going to protest it.
I actually saw this movie as a little kid when it came out and I nearly died from this flatulence episode.....I was like about 9 and to me this was the greatest moment in cinema history....ha ha....
It still is.
Labyrinth also had the Bog of Eternal Stench theme. Both of them remind me of my butt after eating a meal from Taco Hell, excuse me, I mean Taco Bell.🌮🌮🌮♨️🌫️🔥🌋🎆🎇🔥💀☠️👻
I just turned 66 and I still think it's hilarious!😆
Flatulence episode...
Hahahahahahahaha!!!!
And then came Avengers Endgame. But that's more of a next generation masterpiece though.
i remember seeing this-the cinema stopped the movie, rewound it to play it over. The laughter that night still resonates with me 48 years ago!
The whole theater I was in erupted with laughter - everyone had tears in their eyes. This was so funny - and the movie continued on from one sight gag to another. Priceless.
Was 13 when mom took me and my brother to see this when it was released. The 3 of us were laughing so hard we could barely breathe. Tears.
How old are you now?
@@michaelking475 Old
do you mean when the farts were released? LOL
Mel Brooks is a master of knowing exactly how and when to use a fart in a movie to perfection. He doesn't over do it and it fits into the script. This and the Caesar court fart by Dom Deluise in history of the world were perfectly placed!!!!!! Hat's off to Mel Brooks fart mastery!!!!!!!
U made my day sir:-)
Mel Brooks’ governor character was a fart joke because he was named after the French flatulence performance artist with stage name Le Pétomane, which translates as “the fart maniac.” Brooks compounded the joke when the townspeople named the fake tollway after the governor. I like this particular fart joke because it gives a specific connotation to the rhetorical “hot air” politicians so famously emit.
@@brookeking8559 Le Petomaine was an actual person. He was a French performer who had such exceptional control of his sphincter that he could play music and imitate thunder and train engines. All through flatulence. Here's an excerpt from a website called "The Straight Dope":
"I think it’s poetically appropriate that Joseph Pujol, better known as Le Petomane (which we may loosely translate as “the fartiste”) should emanate from France, without doubt the most pretentious nation on the face of the earth. Le Petomane performed his unique act from 1887 to 1914, and became one of his country’s best-known vaudevillians. At one point he was earning 20,000 francs a week, compared to 8,000 for his contemporary Sarah Bernhardt. The true artistic priorities of the French public are thus admirably revealed."
Here is a link to the article:

You, too, can be Master of Flatulence, young grasshopper padawan!
May the Farts Be With Your Azz! 😮
The great Mel Brooks, THE equal opportunity offender!😂🙃
The first time I saw this scene in the theatre I pissed myself. It was not in the previews. There was no internet to spoil it. I was totally sandbagged by this scene and that's the way it should have been. It was beautiful.
patchesdf There's a short British film on YT called Le Petomane. If you like the campfire scene in Blazing Saddles, you'll love it.
patchesdf Internet spoils everything
patchesdf That's why I never watch trailers, or read reviews. Classic!
You and me both, could not make that movie today
@@geoffpoole483 And guess who Governor Petomane (portrayed by Mel Brooks himself in Blazing Saddles) was named after...
I'm a grown man and I'm laughing so hard there are tears in my eyes:-)
Your not alone I am to
The "Knock on barbed wire before entering" was funny too! Mel Brooks loved his sight gags.
Great movie
I am a grown ass man. Watch me fart. Laughing or gagging you'll be gasping for air.
My wife's like ur stupid
I’ve seen this scene well over 100 times at 51. And I still can’t stop laughing. “God-Danged!”
Fell off my seat laughing when I first saw this at cinema. Still makes me chuckle. 😂
The bit that always gets me is when they ask Slim Pickens for more and he says you've had enough. The look on Burton Gilliam's face as well is hilarious. Classic scene.

Talk about setting the scene. Whats my motivation here Mel? None just fart and look stupid. Now that I can do. Good lets roll.
This actually made me cheer up tonight and helped me with my depression right now

Good for you 🙂 I no how you feel.

Keep it handy and watch it daily then. You'll be ok.
Watched this in the hospital once. They had to close my door I was laughing so loudly.
Laughter IS a cure all!
Working in a hospital can be depressing…I am willing to bet that the staff were probably happy that there was laughter.
I remember first seeing this scene when we got Blazing Saddles on DVD in 1999 since my dad's laptop had a DVD player. This scene always has me rolling.
Me and my husband couldn't stop laughing, hearing the farts. Hilarious.

I remember this scene when I was 8 or 9 years old so like 1997 or 1998, my cousins were over at my house when I lived at home at the time and my Dad rented it from either Rogers or Blockbuster since I live in Canada. I was already into fart jokes but when this scene came up I was in tears from laughter and I couldn't breathe. I'm 29 now and this scene always kills me with laughter as I still laugh at farts.
I always point out that the first written joke was a fart joke in Ancient Egypt. It says a newly married woman would never fart in her husband's lap.
I believe that this was the inspiration for Terrence and Philip on South Park.
This had more farts than the Nutty Professor dinner scene.
How can anyone give this scene a thumbs down???....This is pure comedy gold.
They probably smelt something 💩

Woke generation
This scene alone deserves an Oscar !!!
That or a roll of charmin
That's one performance Leonardo Di Caprio can't pull off! 😆
Mel said in his Playboy interview that every cowboy movie has men eating beans but no one ever farts so he had to do it.
What about the cowboy who belched at the beginning?
Scott Hamp What about him?
Icutmetal was that a real belch?
3/502 INF WIDOWMAKER that's all I wanted to know
3/502 INF WIDOWMAKER it's like in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Jack Albertson (Grandpa Joe) and Peter Ostrum (Charlie) did not actually belch. It was someone that made money from belching
I was real young when I saw this movie, and nearly died laughing when it came to eating pork and beans farting scene! Now I am 67 years old, and this really isn't far from the real truth about going older. hats off to Mel Brooks for putting this in his movie.😀
If you’re 67 now and this movie was released in 1974 then you would have been 18-19. That’s not what anyone would call “real young.”
I saw this with my (then) girlfriend in 1974(?). She cringed in her seat and I almost split a gut laughing. Luckily she realized she was too good for me and she called off the marriage.
Meh, you avoided a stuck-up bitch. You should be glad.

I re-enact this scene with my wife almost every night after she makes dinner.

Ley Keyes This scene is guy humor at its best. I recall my 19 year old date back in 1974 say, "That is so gross" as I was laughing my ass off. Needless to say, there was no second date.
@@motorcityquig oh,poor dude.
Mark Rodriguez She did me a favor. She also disliked my heroes the Three Stooges. Like any other young guy, I wasn't looking for a LTR but hoping to get laid. Which of course didn't happen.
When I saw this at the movies, the whole audience giggled at the belch but when the farting started the audience went crazy with laughing. I refuse to watch this movie on network TV because they killed the sounds during this scene.
It's non-pc now, don't you know!
So ridiculous that they “censor” it. If it’s to protect the children, believe, me...kids think farts are funny!
In this day and age?? Hell, they put curses on all the time!!
That's Standards and Pratices for ya.
I remember that they replaced the farting sounds with horses whinnying. If farting at the time was offensive to be broadcast on network television, makes me wonder why they didn't edited out the racial, ethnic, and other derogatory slurs?
loudest and longest laugh I have ever heard in a movie theater couldn`t hear next 2 to 3 minutes of dialog
One of the all time great scenes in movie history. The first time I saw it, I just about couldn't breath from laughing so hard!
Same here bro.
This film is so damn funny. The stories of the writers meetings are also hilarious. Did you know that the ‘Mongo just pawn in game of life’ line was written by Richard Pryor? 😂
Lol, great movie, a classic. So POLITICALLY INCORRECT. We need more movies like it!!!!!
TENN VOLS Sadly we can’t have movies like this anymore because the media would start WW3
RIP Gene Wilder 💔
Nothing like some good old laughing gas. Keeps you warm and helps you laugh.
Who wouldn't love this scene? I had a hard time typing this into my phone from laughing so hard.
It reminds me of my wife's family after a 4th of July picnic, sitting around talking and out of nowhere the farting begins, some crazy stuff!

My grandmother took me to this movie back in 1974 when I was 7 and EVERYONE in the theater was laughing so hard for 5-10 minutes. This was at a movie theater in South New Jersey.
The genius of Mel Brooks….he lets it all go on just that bit longer than necessary which just takes it to the next level. Laughter is infectious and this scene just brings it to the max.
No matter how many times I watch this movie, this scene always cracks me up!
Same! Never fails!
I remember seeing this movie at the theater when it first came out people were laughing so load after the first guy farted you never heard any of the rest of them. It wasn't until the movie came out on VHS that I could hear the rest of them.

So are BEANS, THE MUSICAL FRUIT.....
Mel Brooks made a breakthrough breaking wind! He said in an interview that the studio brass insisted on cuts, here and there, and he agreed, verbally, but left everything in knowing everything would kill.

And you just KNOW that every "fart" was done personally by Mel Brooks buzzing his lips.

I saw the movie in a theater with my wife and another couple. When that scene came up, every man in the theater busted a gut laughing. Our wives could not understand why it was so funny. My friend and I said it was a guy thing that they would not understand.
We saw this movie at the theater. My mother was going to write a letter of complaint to the movie studio, but decided not to when she saw how much I was laughing.
You should have put your mother in the shittiest (no pun intended) nursing home and made sure that you got everything in her last will and testament if she actually went through with that with you. If my mother acted that way with myself, then I would have done that with zero regrets, but, thankfully, she is not like that and she will not be in a nursing home herself.

MR GALLAGHER - And that’s what makes a parody great!
A friend of mine finds animal cruelty plots (like Day of the Animals from The Centurions and Ace in the Hole from Batman Beyond for example) cringeworthy, but he doesn’t go out there screaming about the injustice of these shows and trying to get them destroyed or anything like that. He just never talks & watches them again and moves on with his life. He’s a perfect example of someone who gets it.
His movies did not care who they made fun of. That’s what made them great
The best movie i ever watched
Didn't sound refreshing around the camp fire there.
Back in the dark ages, Mad magazine actually included a 33⅓rpm record in the magazine. It was a cool little item. A thin layer of vinyl attached to a heavy stock insert. The title of the tune was "It's A Gas!" and had a catchy beat. It played a little, stopped a moment for a belch and resumed until another belch. There were probably ten burps. I always thought it would have been better if they used farts. As it was, it was a bit of a shocker for the time.
I never saw this uncensored version till age 15. That was the best day of my childhood. XD
