I guess your videos have been showing up in my recommendations because I subscribe to a couple fishing channels. I live on Vancouver Island and I'm very familiar with the species you're catching in this video. I love bottom fishing. If you want a guaranteed meal, rockfish will never let you down. My biggest non-yelloweye was a quillback of about 5-6 pounds I caught in the Broughton Archipelago. I just watched another of your videos where you talked about a dull knife vs a sharp knife for skinning halibut. I had never thought of trying a dull knife but it makes total sense. You're less likely to cut the skin and leave some skin on the meat. Anyways, subbed. 👍
@@PNWBestLife You do too. From Washington to BC to Alaska is fishing paradise. I live in the Comox Valley on the eastern shore, but as a commercial diver I've lived and worked all over BC for many years. Tofino, Ucluelet, Port Hardy, all great places. And I'm envious of what Washington has to offer. Neah Bay, et cetera. We are blessed with what the ocean offers us in this part of the world. Anyways, happy that UA-cam decided to recommend your channel to me. Cheers, and I look forward to watching more. 👍
What a great trip!! Everyone listen to Kyle, he knows what he’s talking about when it comes to fishing techniques and tackle! The seagulls at the end! 😆
The one 3RiverMarine installed! That's where I had the work done and it's an awesome setup. Are you looking for a brand? I don't know it off hand, but I could check next time I have the boat. Thanks for the question!
I really love using the Okuma twitching jig rod. It’s the same one I use for twitching jigs in the river. Really loads up, sensitive, 7’6 one piece, and I landed a 35 lb halibut on it 😂 My latest favorite though is a special custom yellowtail casting rod given to me by my wife’s late uncle who once held the unofficial yellowtail record. I like to bottom fish with a line counter reel for jigging up suspended rockfish. Of course all of these answers have been about rockfish, did you mean for lingcod?
I use the Navionics app mostly for that, which is often loaded on people’s sonar / fish finder as well. The great thing about the app on the phone is your can do your research in advance. I’m pretty sure it’s in a few other videos or on the blog at PNWBestLife.com, but hit on IG @pacificnwbestlife via DM and I will help you with whatever questions you have
Hmmm, I haven’t…but that’s an interesting idea! I tend to think in need to be closer to the bottom when targeting Lings, vs rockfish are all over the water column, but yeah I don’t know why it wouldn’t be effective
@@PNWBestLife thank you! I may try it out, I've generally had the best luck jigging 3ish feet off the bottom anyways, being right bouncing on the deck with jigheads loses its potential productivity bonus with how often you have to re-tie!
I don’t want a hook on that dropper part because as I explained in the video, you lose a lot more gear like that. It’s rare to get hung up with that cannonball
@@PNWBestLife I made the comment before i got to that part in the video.. lol. how do u like your new boat? I have a 21-NR-Seahawk..maybe I will see u up at Sekiu this May for halibut or in September for coho.

Thanks! Chime in anytime!
Great video, what size lancer jig is that?
Thanks! 4 oz is my favorite for the depths I like to fish

Lol, if only I would have included all of our seagull scene, 🙃
It was a great trip man, thanks for the kind words!
What fish table is that on your boat?

@@PNWBestLife it’s exactly what I have been looking for, would love to see more photos on how they connected it to the boat
Hit me up at kyle@pnwbestlife.com and I will email you some photos when I pickup the boat tomorrow

I'm going up to neah at the end of the month. I hope the water is that nice for us!
Swell was nice and calm, but wind was another story, made boat control difficult at times
@@PNWBestLife what day did you go?
@@anthonywar7223 It was a couple of weeks ago (in March)...in the middle of the week, not sure exactly
Thanks for sharing. Do you have any videos that show how to find the structure for bottom fishing on fishing finder?

New sub here. Thx for sharing your tips and tricks. Nice size rockfish for the dinner table
Awesome, thanks for subscribing! Can’t wait to get out there again!
Man you have such a nice boat. I’ll try your technique for rock fish in my area. Rock fish has been difficult for us the past 2 years.
Thanks man! Let me know how it goes
Love the video! Do you ever run chicken rigs like this for Lings instead of using Jigheads?

Yeah, we don’t even jig actively anymore. Just reel up a few cranks and let it hover…There’s enough action in the tail in the current!
More videos!!
Thanks man! I’m gonna crank it up!
How I can arrange a fishing trip with you?
Well, I’m not a guide, but I have been guilty of connecting with people on YT and eventually taking them fishing lol
Instead of a cannon ball why not use a lead head jig?? Is it legal to have 3 hooks ?

Man, I am loving this boat so much! That would be cool to meet up. I’m there May 11-12.
