Joe Jackson - Interview On "Insight Germany", 2012

- I just the love the way Merrill says, "Yes. I'm. A. Fan."
Robin Merrill interviewing Joe Jackson on "Insight Germany" (Deutsche Welle TV), broadcast on December 5, 2012.
The most talented, criminally underrated musician alive. If frigging Madonna, the Beastie Boys et al. are in the Rock and Roll HOF, then too should Joe.
The so called RRHOF is an almost complete joke!!! It’s nothing more than a Rolling Stone David Fricke & Jan Wenner mix tape of THEIR favorite tunes. The BEST acceptance speech was by RUSH’s Alex Lifeson, “BLAH BLAH BLAH….”😂😂 F! The RRHOSHAME!!
HOF is absolute bullshit.
Great interview. Joe Jackson is so down to earth. He's remarkable as a person, then there's his unforgettable music.
Joe Jackson, I love you and your music.
Joe Jackson is a very interesting guy. Originally only familiar with the fast version of Stepping Out. Heard the slow version and realized how deep musically he is. Hearing about his classical background and love of Duke Ellington just adds more to his musical persona. Sad so many comments here are about how he looks. Not sure what the age is where everyone younger judges a singer/musician/artist strictly by how they look instead of the musical talent they possess but maybe that is why so much of modern music is performed by good looking people with little actual musical talent. Oh well...
DrummerDanVa No that's EXACTLY why. You hit it on the head.
I love his libertarian/conservative attitude about freedom. With Germany on strict lockdown and police actually measuring the distances between it's citizenry and arresting those who are in violation of these draconian measures I can only wonder how he is taking it all. I would imagine that he is as opposed to tyranny, especially medical as any other critical and free thinking individual. I have always loved his music but when I hear him speak about freedom from the nanny state I just appreciate him as a human being more and more. Eric Clapton is also a proponent of freedom.
As someone else said.. Good interview, good interviewer. A great musician who's progressed through the decades with his integrity intact and his talents only increasing.
Such a great interview. Never saw JJ speaking like this. So intelligent , articulate, imaginative, no restrictions , just music in the moment. I saw his concert in Sydney around 1990 and it was incredible.
He's brilliant and yet so lite hearted and down to earth. Love this guy!
Joe's unique musical stylings are enjoyable and hard to forget. His Night and Day album was an excellent achievement. Glad to see that he's doing well and amazing that 3 decades after "Stepping Out" his voice is still going strong.
This interviewer is really good. Doesn’t talk over the guest
Did his homework instead of some intern.
Great interview! I've been listening to Joe Jackson since my girl friend turned me on to Jumpin' Jive when it came out, and I've been listening off and on ever since. I'm delighted that he's been able to make a living with his musical talent, and hope he stays fresh and exciting.
Loved Jumpin Jive, Louis Jordon was introduced to a new generation (mine).
I so enjoyed this interview. Always been a huge fan of Joe Jackson. Thank you for posting this.
He was my idol growing up. We all wanted to be him. Saw him live off a pier in Manhattan with the best Ian Weiss
what a thoughtful intelligent gentlemen...you can color me impressed x
This interviewer is very good. That's rare these days.
Thoughtful unique musician but I think equal credit should be given to the interviewer, great questions!
Gosh Joe you could at least look a little older than what you appear here...as you were in the '80s. Good effort! You have always been one of the most intelligent, honest, unassuming and modest artists of your time. I can so remember buying the cassette tape (double) 'Joe Jackson Live...1980-1986' when it was released over here in New Zealand. I was 25 and so in to British artists Joy Division/New Order and The Cure and then along came your double album. I played and played and played it over and over until I knew every single lyric. I believe it is one of the greatest double albums of any artist period. So enjoying listening to this interview as I write this. Iggy Pop! 'I am a Passenger'! Oh Yeah! God job Robin Merrill. Thank you ReallyGoinOutWithHim for uploading really appreciated.
Amazing composer. Love him.
Good interview, good interviewer.
I regret that I lost track of this brilliant musician over the years. Since I tend to like the more jazz-inflected material, I see there is much I have missed. Time to catch up! (He’s also cute in an offbeat way - - he has good taste in wardrobe as well)
He's adorable!
It's funny, he's been away from Portsmouth for such a long time, but you can still here it in his voice here and there. You can take the boy out of Portsmouth.........
Love this! Thanks for the post. I always wanted to hear a Joe Jackson interview. This is fascinating and love to hear about Joe's origins and his music background.
At 10 minutes: "It's good to change things around, I mean when you're still doing a song you wrote 30 years ago sometimes you have to find new ways of doing it...." That's what I like about Joe....
It’s strange that some of his fans don’t like that about him, that’s what makes Joe Unique
Saw Joe in 83 at the Greek Theater in L.A. Steaping out tour ..... F-N AWSOM !
I wish they would have interviews like this on British TV
Yes all interviews now all aim to get cheap laughs, with no depth to them
Good interesting interview. Thanks for uploading.
I adore this man!Biggest fun in Greece
Such a doll!
Joe Jackson is a “do your own research” type of guy. Now that is my type of guy. Joe knows what’s up, he’s no fool. It’d be very interesting to hear his opinions on the current state of the world
saw him in 1984 in Ludwigshafen - very cool
Talented, he's the man.
I love all his albums up to Night and day and then I just lost track...love him, though
Try Body & Soul, Volume 4 and Fast Forward.
@@michavandam check out Blaze of Glory and Heaven and Hell. Both amazing
@@patrickgill8231 I'd say Heaven and Hell is for advanced Joe Jackson followers, and Blaze of Glory is less catchy than his best work. Both CDs are more cerebral than his first two albums. That's why I advise 'beginners' to first listen to Body & Soul, Volume 4 and Fast Forward.
@@michavandam I must admit that Body and Soul is a masterpiece....one of his very best I have heard
@@thomasandersen6719 : )
He is the man pure genius ultra fabulous performer
VERY GENUINE
Wow this interview was Great!
Thanks for posting. I enjoyed it
One of the all time greats...
Great show. Thouroughly enjoyable.
this is why i write songs on you tube
I love this guy. He is a great song writer. He has always chosen to go the hard way instead of the easy pop direction. Odd cat, but great song writer. I hate his new hair and face. He looks odd. Not sure i would recognize him if I ran into him. Then again, that not my business. It's his life.
colin poitras I beg to differ...he looks GREAT!
i think he looks great he is no spring chicken either i like it suits his personality
Joe is a legend
Good interview and good interviewer
Cure for gravity. Best story ever written by a rock star.
Been into joe since 1978 album I stood when came out and notice old joe sounds almost American losing u k accent the dude is fucking genius...
P.s. Album I stole in 78 ??? Various artists compilation called NO WAVE had earliest joe jackson songs...Sunday papers and...got the time right???
Impossible to categorize this guy.
Very timely in the era of Covid. Speaking of Government, Joe says: "The way they get to push us around these days always has something to do with health or safety extremely exaggerated..."
Some exaggeration definitely going on in March '21 with schools and many businesses closed by government edict.
You’re the man Joe!
i hope joe jackson comes back to philadelphia pa
I saw him at the Keswick and at the Tower.
u are fantastic, Joe. try and work with #M.anifest OF ghana. West Africa love you bunch...........
OMG! I was just thinking he should right a musical. I also think he should tour with Ramsey Lewis.
And I think Ellington would’ve liked Joe.
3:58 He's quite good at it (music) is right.
Does anybody know where I can read his essay?
In his website.
Or you could get his book ,Joe Jackson, A cure for gravity
34:27
He looks very Germanic
Does he?
Great grounded guy with a great outlook on life and it's a shame he felt the need for cosmetic surgery.
Hardly a trace of his accent
Why oh why is this video FUCKED UP by mangling its dimensions?!
Fucking hell Botox?????
It seems like ....I prefer natural
***** A la naturale for me every time. Just look at Keith Richards from The Rolling Stones...now there's a rock artist. No frills with Keef. Never was, never is , never will be. Looking old is way cooler than looking like a hunk of siliconized plastic gel. Sorry Joe but that's just how I see it. No shame in looking aged at all. Trying to hide it only disguises ones true vanity I'm afraid.
Looks a little more serious than botox, looks like Joe has had some serious plastic surgery done on his face. Everything looks very tight on his face, in the area of his eyes and cheeks. This is all very normal stuff for us here in California, but I didn't expect to run into it here. That said, I have loved Joe's music for years and "Body and Soul" is a masterpiece. Musical genius....Joe can do whatever the hell he wants!
spd13062 Plastic surgery is nothing other than a complete waste of a surgeon's valuable time that they could be better utilising. It indicates sheer utter vanity 'in the face' of those he chose to use it to hide wrinkles or somehow disguise the natural ageing process. Not only can Joe Jackson do whatever he likes, anybody can do whatever they like including having their face ruined by botox injections and plastic surgery.
+Blackscorpion1963 said surgeon's make a fortune from this.. and anesthetists.. it's not like they aren't doing great work elsewhere; i say take the cash offa narcissists.
I am curious about his personal life, I don't think he was ever married.
Yes he was married to Rita....which he said was a disaster
A little plastic surgery for Joe. that's disappointing. But life goes on.
+Dee Donner Ramone I was just going to say, he looks really different
You try growing old in the public spotlight. Not easy.
I don't give a fuck what he looks like. It seemed to me near the beginning he said 'I just wan't to be treated like an adult' re: locations/Berlin. It's so true people don't listen as much as they look & judge.
Grow up bro. Thanks.
I love his music so much. I’m so disappointed he’s ruined his face. He doesn’t strike me as vain.
At about 29:00 talking about tyranny from the state, personal freedoms and medical ways the tyrants act- fast forward 10 years to the PLANdemic😮! I’m sure he’s got lots to say about that shit show.
Uhhhhh, Joe Jackson pushing the cigarette industry's lobbyists' b.s. is the most 2020 thing I could have possibly imagined.
jfc this timeline is horrifying
Older men get bigger ears - the one real give-away as to his real age.
Erwin Woodedge Scary but true.
Erwin Woodedge I like his ears lol. But I never noticed its an age giveaway lol You just turned me into an ear watcher😂😂😂😂
Oh who gives a fuck
He has always had big ears, and they are adorable!
I find Joe Jackson totally adorable. An incredibly talented and most beautiful man.
WHAT DID SHE DO TO HER FACE
I'll tell you the same thing I just told ol Dan the Man a few clicks up: If that is all you see as you watch this then you got everything you had coming. You're a frosting kind of person. What the hell do you do with yourself all day and night?
Biggest forehead I have ever seen in my life? Joe hello?? Steppin out was great, thats all I can remember of your original stuff? Best wishes ....
dumb comment
If I knew where Mark lived, I'd sneak into his house, find his keyboard, pop the ? key off and replace it with a blank key. That should keep him busy for a week or so!
Nobber
As Joe Jackson. Will get plastic surgery and everything.
Great ears Joe,that's some face lift and botox mate.
Idiot
@@maggieloughran5641 OMG. That's exactly what I was getting ready to type!!!
Did he swallow a balloon???????
Or was he stung by something???????
Don't judge him by his appearance, please.
who cares he is genius wha a loser comment
Why are you even here?
He looks like he's had a lot of plastic surgery...
Is that really all you were able to glean from this interview? Then you don't deserve the treasures you've missed.
No expression on the face . So sad .
