This interview is a great example (and showcase) on why interviews in any sport should be done by people that not only play the sport, but interact organically with the community and athletes. They are both aware of each other, and their contributions to the sport. So there's that mutual respect. However, no punches are pulled, and no question is off the table. Even with that, they're obviously comfortable, and the answers ring true, instead of a "copy paste" memorized to answer media. And I do realize that most media time is set to a lower time bracket than this. Having a 20m plus interview with one of the best at any sport is, indeed, quite a treat. Great job.
@@arck-yt Gotham interviewed him like 3 months ago. Just look up "Gotham interview Magnus". I don't think he did for this tournament. At least not that I've seen.
I'm honestly thinking that they are at a such high level at chess that it's hard for them to tell the difference between 800 vs 1200 ELO for example. Even considering the Chess ELO scale, I doubt someone with 50 hours of practice would be 1200 ELO. At 1200 ELO in chess, you will likely beat most of your friends/family. With 50h of tennis practice you probably will not beat most people you know. Also for context, in the Tennis ELO scale, where the top players are ~2200, the players in the 450th ranking worldwide have 1200 ELO
He has the ability of becoming a friend with all of them and putting them in a confort zone where they can tell all of their thaughts without pressure or interruptions.
in this interview specifically, fabi kinda carries the interview. Not insulting Levy, but Fabi is a fantastic interviewee. Never gives the boring short answer. Always gives an interesting detailed answer
I really enjoyed this. Fabi is obviously an amazing player, but his reserved personality kept him slightly more under the radar. I've seen enough interviews and commentary from him to become a big fan, he's smart, thoughtful, careful and insightful. Whilst I'm rooting for Hikaru in the candidates, I wouldn't be sad to see Fabi win.
He almost seemed genuinely _happy_ for Anna when she surprised herself by beating him ... great game. (She should ask him out. Just saw a fun vibe between them. 🤷♀)
Fabi is such a humble and dignified person. He speaks with such clarity and is soft spoken.A great chess player. His mannerisms remind me so much of Vishy Anand.
Not seeing enough of this among the meme comments; love where you’ve come from and the direction of your content. The interview and podcast stuff is all amazing, would love to see more of what you did in this video specifically. Thanks for the daily chess stuff and entertainment, lots of enjoyment while waiting for my CS class
Fabi has been my favourite for a while. Gentlemen, poised, classy, excellent player, and never in any drama. I will be thrilled to see him take his throne as the WCC. He deserves it considering how close he was to magnus.
One comes to expect at least a touch of narcissism from people who are elite at anything, but Fabiano seems to be able to analyze his own performance and behavior in a completely rational fashion. That is truly a rare skill, very admirable. I like Levy in this kind of format.
I’ve seen him interviewed on another channel the guy he teamed up when they were playing partners in a chess match or that might’ve been Hikaru and Fabi I’m not sure
I like Fabi. He's not an egotistical A-hole. He's quiet, honest, intelligent, and thoughtful. He's a lot like me, but with an Elo 2,500 above mine. He and Hikaru are my favorite players to watch, especially if they are playing against Hans.
I actually dont even doubt that caruana will became WC some day most probably this year ,statistics shows clearly he is second after Magnus no matter how much Hikaru tries to be Magnus's ultimate Rival ,but in reality that position belongs to none other than calculating machine CARUANA himself....❤❤❤
Fabi is such a wonderful personality. We are so lucky to live in an era with such gracious, humble top players, at least for the most part. And good on you, Levy, for not pulling any punches. Some of these questions were uncomfortable, but you asked with care and respect. Could watch you two talk for hours. Thanks!
Great interview. Fabi is the most articulate, even-tempered, intelligent speaker in the chess world. I hope either he or Hikaru wins and then wins the world championship.
There's just something about Fabi you gotta love. He's like a zen master thats lived 100 lives already. He needs to finally embrace the Ricky Ricardo stache that keeps trying to break free. It wants t be free Fabi let it be free!

I have a lot of respect for this guy, always shows a lot of level headedness and composure, it's a shame he didn't get to become world champion at his peak because of a certain sauron of chess.
Fabi is that quiet brainy kid in class everyone initially avoids. And then gradually over time wins everybody over one by one, and becomes extremely popular.
