Just wanted to mention that Barry Sanders retired at age 31 not 36 or 37 as mentioned by Hikaru. A very young age with just over 1,400 yards shy of the all time rushing record.
I love how grandmasters show their insane memory. Busting out details of the scores on old games is crazy detail recall

Barry Sanders didn’t retire at age 36 or 37, he retired at 31 in his prime. He was 2 years younger than Magnus is now. Barry did amazing things with very little support around him. In that way, I think Hikaru would agree Barry is more like Bobby Fischer since Bobby’s accomplishments are even more astounding given that he had nowhere near the support structure of the Russian government chess juggernaut when he beat Spassky.
I mean he had an amazing year in 97 but can you really say he was "in his prime" at 31. IDK. Football is not chess...

@@Nitidus IT was Hikaru's old handle on ICC or at least one of them. People were gathering to watch him since he was a kid. Crazy bullet and blitz games with everyone and crazy trash talk. Those games are still out there online somewhere.

@ravecrab ah, that's... pretty bad. The extent of my knowledge was the Tiger Woods was basically the goat of golf, but I didn't know he threw it away like that.
Yeah, he kept having to have surgery because his swing was so violent and hard on his body.
