    As a 75 year old ( English ) Rock / Fusion Jazz / Funk/ World music fan, i have to say that i am totally blown away by these guys originality & virtuosity, i'm guessing Chris Thiele does a lot of the writing, ( only because he seems to be the most eccentric of the group ) anyway i shall now be diving deep into the Punch Bros. rabbit hole & will no doubt have lots of fun discovering the rest of their work. ( P.S. also love Brittany Haas & Hawktail )
    Long live Americana music & a big shout out to Whitney Webb.....

      My favorite videos of live performances strangely were mostly performed and filmed in Boston. This shocks me still as a born and raised masshole. This video shocked me in particular. I just learned about these guys a year ago and here are my people who are usually loud, rough, and not giving a f’q, being awesome punch bros fans years before me… IN BOSTON?! UH… What…?

    To me, the best part of this concert, by far, is a section that lasts less than two minutes in the middle of "It's Part of the Plan". Noam and Chris perform two solos, and OH MY GOD, the virtuosism is OVERWHELMING! Both solos are super short. One wishes they would go on and on, like in a jazz improv session, but no, it's just a taste of what they both are capable of doing, and they leave you salivating and wanting more. Again, the virtuosism in this band is unparalleled. I had the pleasure of seeing them in Dallas, and I can only say I'm so happy Chris decided to visit our planet.

      In a pre-show performance before their NYC performance, someone asked them about "This Girl" and why they had seemingly changed it up. Chris pondered it for a moment and in their half-sentence way of communicating, Gabe reminded him they had had a long day in the studio and things were just not gelling that day. So as something of musical palate cleanser, they ripped through some high speed bluegrass piece then recorded the "Who's Feeling Young Now?" version in one take. It was something they didn't typically do and ended up really liking it. ua-cam.com/video/Ci7gW23stZU/v-deo.html
      Chris admitted it was awfully fast on the album and the band generally nodding in agreement. To underscore that, Paul Kowart who generally keeps his expressions in a rear pocket, mocking drooped in exhaustion over his bass as Chris said that. I will say I appreciated the the tension, anxiety, energy, humorous desperation mixed in with the album version, but agree this live version has beautifully filled out. It's some true-ass genius that can bring two equally enchanting versions of the same song to us.

    So what would you call this? It's a bluegrass type ensemble and style, but it's on another level in the clouds. I mean, bluegrass is always on a high level in musicianship, but this is unparalleled. I've been following Pikelny and Thiel for a few years, now- the violinist is incredible but I'm not as familiar with him, nor the bassist - but they're ALL top tier musicians, of course and obviously. I love these guys and I love UA-cam Premium for enabling me to watch and listen to them.👍❤

    I hope they haven't completely abandoned the "5 guys 1 mike" format. That is a truly magical experience, one of which they are masters.

      They were playing around two mikes in Philly a couple weeks ago. Had much the feel of their one-mike sets, and was magical indeed. I think they have to adjust their setup to venues. They also unplugged entirely for their last encore (Familiarity), which was such a special moment. You can hear it here: ua-cam.com/video/lACYOl-nU9M/v-deo.html. Decent sized standing venue, almost total attentive silence from the audience.

    • @mattdaaamon

      You know what's better than one mic? Having mics on everything with a professional sound system and sound engineer ruining it. Lacking control over sound which is is critical in a large venue because you feel cool using a single mic is a disservice to your fans. I get it lots of big fans like to say they were there for shows where a band did something "different", but that does not always mean the show was actually better.

    • @mattdaaamon
      @mattdaaamon 6 років тому +1

      Ellen this was the same setup here as in philly. 2 mics for vocals and instruments micd. I wouldn't call playing unplugged in a large venue a good experience although certainly unexpected. It sounded a lot better than the 1 mic tour.

    I remember watching Noam Pikelny play one of his first shows with Leftover on Halloween 2002 at the Fillmore in Denver. He was dressed as a chicken and Vince Herman kept calling him "chicken boy" all night. I was super close to the stage and could have sworn he was close to tears. Perhaps my senses were a bit, um, dimmed and I was reading into it a bit. Anyway... he went on to become quite accomplished

    Just look at this mess, my favorite by you guys.. should be on every radio station across the planet. We've lost our compassion as a species. Possibly quite a long time ago. But I believe in us all. I see beyond our borders. We are truly a magnificent species, regardless if the powers that be want to hold us down... we will be victorious, in this lifetime, or a thousand lifetimes from now. I love u all, sincerely, and we will overcome any challenge we face. Have faith in each other, for we are one in the same. 1luvfamily 🧡 #goodvibetribe
