Growing up I made sure to avoid certain people so that I could keep clean and keep my options open. The thing that gets me is, while other people didn't care too much and did all kinds of stupid stuff and got into trouble, they were able to get police jobs with no problem on their first try. Meanwhile I can't seem to catch a break.
I've been thinking about policing especially since I grew up with my dad being one and know many of his friends who are police officers-it's always seemed like an interesting career to me. I'm currently doing a chemistry degree and considering a forensic science one, which if I did become a police officer, could allow me to work with forensics (in Canada forensic scientists are police officers-aside from the RCMP). However, I have a hearing loss which I imagine would immediately disqualify me-even though I grew up wearing hearing aids and have always excelled in English courses-and people I know either forgetting that I have the hearing loss or not even realizing unless if they see my hearing aids. I know that the police department that I want to work for has regulations on uncorrected vision and hearing, but they also have regulations on CORRECTED vision, so I don't see why they wouldn't consider corrected hearing-but I could be wrong.
I got tips 1, 2, 4, and 5 down but I definitely need to work at being physically fit. I’m not bad or super out of shape but definitely not up to Police standards. The thought that I can spend the next several months or year to improve myself in that category sounds pretty thrilling, plus it’ll really let me know if the police field is something I really want to get into.
Start with a 37 min jog everyday. When I went through basic training for the US military the people who worked hard before attempting were the top performers. Don’t wait until it’s time to go. Get started now. Push ups sit ups run. Easy money. Focus on your endurance core and stamina duration.
i'm 16, i study this field of study and i'm from czech republic. i wanna be a police officer since kindergarten lol. thank you for doing this video, really helped me!
Education options... Even during the law enforcement career... 1. Consider a junior college or community college. Why pay for the first two years of a four year college/university at that rate; when one can pay considerably less? 2. Online schools. From the most difficult such as MIT (yes that MIT) to ones such as Biola and countless others. MIT can be free, or at a very trivial cost, such as getting books and/or cost to print transcript. Just a few classes from a school such as MIT guarantees one a lifetime career; the employer will come to you instead of the other way around. 3. Consider items such as computer certification.
I'm Self Sponsoring myself through the Police Academy.... I start in a few more weeks; In January 2022... The Academy I'm attending is 12 weeks at a Community College here in Tennessee....!!

I am 40 years old, and I want to be a police officer.... Yeah it took me a LONG time to decide that, huh? lol..... I'm not quite sure what to do actually. I'm very lost, and I need some advice lol... I have a clean record, I've never been arrested in my life. I'm still in fairly decent shape and my health is pretty good, it could be better but I'm working on that. I want to work on a career path that allows me to advance in the field of investigating domestic terrorism, hate crimes, and other violent incidents like mass killings. I know those are very specific and grim topics, but that type of work is what I am most passionate about pursuing, because those types of crimes I feel are the ones that America should take priority in solving right now. I feel like my skills and talents could help bring justice to people who need it most. But I am lost. I don't have much confidence in myself to follow through and go for it... I want to start a new life, but I don't know how.
I begin academy in 13 days, I am excited, physically I’m getting there I’ve lost about 27 pounds in 2months and I’m eating correctly and feeling better so I believe I will do well👌🏽 just continuing to work on running and core strength the next 2 weeks until it becomes easy ... 30 more pounds and I’ll be at my military dream weight goal as well 💪🏽

I want to start preparing to apply to my local agency and I am terrified lol I have a fairly clean record; light drug usage but I haven’t touched anything in at least ten years. No felonies convicted or not. Haven’t had a ticket in over 12 years. I’m a CCW holder so the government trusts me enough to carry a concealed weapon. It’s still scary though. A few family members have DUIs so I’m hoping that doesn’t hurt me.

freaker I’m 17 and currently looking into the military and law enforcement, but I have a breaking and entering felony that has been expunged off my record. A police officer and military recruits told me that it doesn’t disqualify me. If you were caught stealing which probably is a misdemeanor, you will be fine especially if you were a minor.
I got a reckless driving when I was 18 almost 19. I’m about to turn 20 and going into criminal justice and will be able to register when I’m 21. I worry that my reckless driving(only ticket I ever got because the cop thought I was lying when I was going to work because I entered the highway where before you enter the highway. The other location was before entering the highway. And I was just grabbing gas from a nearby gas station because it was cheaper and as I was heading to work I was running late so I entered the left lane and went 105 and got pulled over and told him I was going to work and it seemed believable because I was wearing the uniform for the job but my house address was where I was headed because work was right there and he thought I was lying and gave me speeding reckless and seatbelt. I ended up just getting reckless) so hopefully when I’m 21 I still got a chance
I'm doing my initial research to determine "Do I want to be a cop, or is it just a nice idea that's not really for me?" Questions: What's the difference between a cop and a sheriff's deputy? What's the difference in hiring and qualifications? Does my military service actually help, or is it useless? Sure, police are (I'm guessing) something like a paramilitary (hope that's the right term) organization so, I'm familiar with rank structure, discipline, rules, regulations, and bullshit. However, what I'm wondering is really: Hey, I was a diesel mechanic in the Army. Does that count for anything? Does that hold any water? If one job opening is available, and there's 2 candidates, me and an identical candidate who has zero military experience but is identical to me in every other way, who gets hired?
It depends on the department, no two are the same. Generally speaking a 4 year military contract is just as good as a bachelor's degree. The military guys that don't get in are usually special operations guys, if you were a diesel mechanic and not in combat then your military experience is definitely a big advantage for most departments. The disadvantage of a military background is that the police department has to retrain you for their policies
A sheriffs deputy and a police officer are pretty much the same thing depending on where you are sometimes the sheriffs department have you working at a jail and if a city needs some help the deputy’s will patrol that area also the sheriffs deputy can help out in many towns or cities within their jurisdiction. But if I’m not mistaken some towns don’t have police officers they have just a sheriffs deputies. From what I’ve heard it’s easier to become a deputy
You forgot to mention your social media, as someone who has done backgrounds for a PD, social media is just as important as those references you mention.

When you turn 14, join police explorers...
Me too bro good luck
There’s a lot more to the job than what meets the eye, speaking from my 2 years in the explorers
@@NJMoo3652 I know it a lot more jobs but I am becoming an law enforcement because when I was 4 or 3 I was watching cops and I told my mom I want to be a cop

22 with a current major in Psychology. Planning on taking a security guard job and finishing my AA degree. :) But we all know things don't always go according to plan xD Security will still be a good paying job.
Great video. love it. im in police academy in sweden
Hey Nick! I was wondering if you could do a video like this for police dispatchers. I’m in the hiring process for quite a few agencies right now and not that many people do videos about becoming a dispatcher. I’d appreciate it! Keep up the good work.
Thanks very much for the video!!
The real problem here is that I'm from Italy, so I will need to do lots of stuff to obtain the second citizenship...

Hi Officer Nick Off Duty Thank you for your service & great helpful video content
Currently hitting the gym (always will), and in school for criminal justice.
Thank you for this information it was definitely informative.
I'm bout to turn 12 and I told my parents I wanted to be a cop and then since my cousin works in law enforcement he literally wants me to be a cop and now I'm looking at vids, so far it looks cool!
I have a similar audience on my channel so I shared this on my community page.

Thanks good video Nick I have wanted to be a cop my whole life . This video really helped
Glad I can help! Stay focused and you will be a police officer in no time 🤜🏼🤛🏼
Thanks Nick, very interesting.
Sounds like you’re whining in the comment section, no wonder u can’t
💀
you wanna know how they got it? They either got their daddy/s friends in the station or money.
@@JohnSmith-fs8bu You're comment makes no sense.
Great life background. Have you begun yet on becoming a police officer with being an individual with hearing loss?
So for the appearance, just watch re-runs of Miami Vice and dress like Crockett and Tubs.
i'm 16, i study this field of study and i'm from czech republic. i wanna be a police officer since kindergarten lol. thank you for doing this video, really helped me!
3. Consider items such as computer certification.
you sir are the man
I’m 20 and have a clean record… I’ll turn 21 in November this year hopefully everything goes well for me
Thank you for the tips nick.
I'm turning 17 this year and needed advice and whatever I could find for my favorite and hopefully my soon to be full time job as a police officer

Awesome advice.
I'm Self Sponsoring myself through the Police Academy.... I start in a few more weeks; In January 2022... The Academy I'm attending is 12 weeks at a Community College here in Tennessee....!!
2 years too late but I am 19 years old and wanting to become a policeman in a small town in a town where I used to go to college and is fairly close to home so thank you for the advice although I have a few more years until I am 21 years old but I am the first in my family to want to be police officer
Thank you very helpful ☺️.
Go for it better to try and fail then to not and always wonder, we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us ✊🏽
I begin academy in 13 days, I am excited, physically I’m getting there I’ve lost about 27 pounds in 2months and I’m eating correctly and feeling better so I believe I will do well👌🏽 just continuing to work on running and core strength the next 2 weeks until it becomes easy ... 30 more pounds and I’ll be at my military dream weight goal as well 💪🏽
Good luck my dude

I want to start preparing to apply to my local agency and I am terrified lol I have a fairly clean record; light drug usage but I haven’t touched anything in at least ten years. No felonies convicted or not. Haven’t had a ticket in over 12 years. I’m a CCW holder so the government trusts me enough to carry a concealed weapon. It’s still scary though. A few family members have DUIs so I’m hoping that doesn’t hurt me.
Minnesota requires it's police to have a college degree.
Oh wow.
Oh ya betcha
Thank you brother for the tips wish me luck I’m going to join the police officer I hope I can make it I live in Houston. Please wish me look. Amazing tips brother. Thank you again. Peace ✌️
So I’m currently a Federal C/O at the max security pen and I’m hoping this position will greatly improve my chances to eventually move to patrol on the streets you would think right? That’s my end goal is patrol for the city or maybe highway/state Patrol officer
Would being in the national guard or a security guard be a plus in anyway during the hiring process like for consideration.
I'm planning on it in a few years, but since 13 I've wanted to become a soldier in the US Army.

go airforce
I’m 18 I plan to go get an associates degree
Only thing that scares me is people yelling at me saying I’m a traitor to my culture I’ve wanted to work in LE since forever I feel like I can make a difference or at least impact a change
They will see :)
This video helps thank you
We rejected one candidate, the brother of a current officer on our department, b/c he started a lot of bar fights while he was in college. He never did get a law enforcement job as far as I know.
Hey I used to steal a lot of stuff when i was a kid, does that mean I’m out
freaker I’m 17 and currently looking into the military and law enforcement, but I have a breaking and entering felony that has been expunged off my record. A police officer and military recruits told me that it doesn’t disqualify me. If you were caught stealing which probably is a misdemeanor, you will be fine especially if you were a minor.
you should be good, but during the polygraph test make sure to tell the truth by telling them so, thats the best thing you can do
I got a reckless driving when I was 18 almost 19.
I'm doing my initial research to determine "Do I want to be a cop, or is it just a nice idea that's not really for me?"
Questions:
What's the difference between a cop and a sheriff's deputy?
Active Duty Army here. About to be chaptered for failure PT test, but the only reason why I failed is because I've injured my knee. Hoping to get a honorable discharge, but that's in my commanders hand. I've always been interested in Law enforcement because I want to make a positive impact within the community. Fire fighter, police, private security, security guard any one will work as long as I can get into something like this it's just the only way I can see my future going I don't have a lot of brains so I figured this line of work would be best for me something that you don't need college for

Number One: It's ABSOLUTELY NOWHERE NEAR as exciting as media portrays it. Nowhere near. Not even close.
This is the life blood of the organization, paperwork.
The way red corpuscles carry oxygen through the body, paperwork carries information through the dept.
