  • In March 2021, people entered a private security-deposit box company in Beverly Hills, CA, broke open hundreds of boxes, and indiscriminately seized their contents - collectively worth over one hundred million dollars. Box holders lost their life savings, family heirlooms, important documents, and more. But the people who took their property weren’t mobsters; they were FBI agents.
    Today we have with us IJ attorneys Bob Belden and Mike Greenberg. They’re going to share with us the story of an unprecedented FBI raid-and how the Institute for Justice is making sure it never happens again.

      It wasn't the government that was unlawful in this instance. It was the men/women in the FBI who filed a dishonest application for a warrant. Seems to me they kept that from the judge. IMHO what we have here is a criminal organization. They should fall under RICO statutes. Maybe all the way up to the director. All of them had to know this was armed robbery they were committing against the very citizens they were supposed to be protecting. This should have been set right so many times by now.

      There is a due process. Hence why the IJ has to fight for these people. The problem is that the "Process" to get your money back is so burdensome and high, most people can't afford to fight to get their property back. Hence why the govt does this kind of BS. They know most people will give up. This case was successful because it was in Beverly Hills, CA and most of those box holders had tons of money to spend to fight the case. If this would of happened in Appolacha, FL in the middle of nowhere, without IJ support the FBI would have gotten away with it.

      Law? We now have two full generations raised on the concept that the Constitution is racist and needs to be done away with because it was written by white men. Some of us have been screaming this to the rooftops for decades. The Long March has born its fruit.

      They just 1984 it, you aren't being denied your property, the item was charged with a crime and they are keeping it, totally different because what are you going to do about it? Nothing...

    As a dumb teenager I got together with a couple friends and decided to visit a neighbor, while he was at work.
    Instead of knocking we figured we would just lift the sliding glass door.
    Long story short as we were getting a fee ride to juvenile hall for a 3 day weekend one of my partners in crime asks the detective:
    "Can't we just give it back?"
    Word on the street is that the detective is still laughing, these decades later.

    criminals don't use services like this, they don't use safety deposit boxes. That's the idiocy of Civil forfeiture for safety deposit boxes.

      It really just sounds like a setup to get their hands on a bunch of cash and gold, pocket a bunch with no way of proving how much they really stole. $80 million in cash alone... Skim several million off the top, who's going to investigate the FBI... Pretty easy way to get a million to each fed involved or close to it untraceable

    I would sue to have an outside law enforcement agency to check every agents financials to make sure that they didn't make a deposit outside of their deposits.

    • @Vincent_Beers
      @Vincent_Beers 2 дні тому

      That would require a district attorney willing to file the charges and they won't. Our government set it up so that civilians can only file civil cases, not criminal.

    Imagine if you had $40,000 in the box with the intention of using it as a down payment on your dream house and they come and take it and you are delayed over 2 years and during that time, home prices increase dramatically and you have lost so much opportunity, and the house you wanted is long gone. Sure, you get the $40,000 back, but what about the losses from the missed opportunities? What about people who just happened to have taken their money out the day before the raid? They are fine, but you are screwed. How are you made whole?

    The most sickening part about all of this, they will pin it on one person in the agency fire him then rehire him. So in the end no one will get punished for this. Until qualified immunity is gone and police and government officials start to get punished for their crimes things like this will continue to happen.
