Cop angry. "I apologize, officer, but seriously, the way you worded the question gave me pause. As a law-abiding citizen, I was shocked to hear you say that. By your reaction, I see you find that as offensive as I do. I meant no disrespect."

I agree! They should not be able to use dogs or any animal at all! It's a terrible life for a dog, LE are often not kind to them. And once a dog is no longer in service, how many regular people want to adopt a dog trained to attack? Plus by using dogs it stymies LE critical thinking skills & investigation abilities. It's taking a shortcut & it's cheating imo.

    • @tvc1848

Qualified immunity has nothing to do with dogs. It would of the Supreme Court ruled that dogs were not probable cause and the officer did it anyway.
Then qualified immunity would be invalid. Simply not liking a Supreme Court decision doesn’t make the officer wrong. That is in the Supreme Court, not the officer.

@@MeRia035 ill be honest, most LE dogs get a great life. They get the best food, constant attention, theyre always very well trained, and most officers that get K9's have families and theyre very well socialized with kids. When they retire the last K9 officer will usually keep them personally. My dad was a K9 cop and we kept multiple dogs for their whole life and they were no different than being our normal dog, except they got to go to work with their owner everyday and spend all day in the car with them.
My dads dogs werent drug dogs tho, they were actual K9 units where they would back my dad up on a stop if ever the need arose.
And I'll stick up for that, but ill denounce almost every single aspect of modern policing and police.

As a CDL owner operator, I have suffered many interactions with cops good & bad. They can do the same job professionally, respectfully, and thoroughly with my inconvenience being part of the job. Or I'm guilty, & they will find something or some reason to search truck & load. I once had a CHP & Border Patrol order me to "break the seal, unlock & open the doors on my refrigerated trailer so the dog can search inside." "Respectfull, I will not violate Federal law, my companies security policies & my civil rights. You must A) sign the sealed BOL envelope with your name, badge #, and state reason & necessity for breaking the seal.
      B) Call the 800 # 1st.
      C) This is a load of fresh beef & iced fresh chicken, & your dog will not enter the trailer. Your dog's nose will explode from all the delicious aromas, giving a false positive. f you have probable cause, you can get a search warrant, relocate the trailer to a refrigerated facility, and unload it to search.
      D) The company will immediately contact Federal Marshal's to intervene.
"No sir, that is a warning, not a threat. FYI: The company already knows I'm stopped, my location, & I advised them I thought you would attempt to open trailer as I observed done on trucks ahead of me.
      E) This load delivers to Haward CA, is for Hawaiian Express, if not there on time to put on ship, a $50K fine, & you now own all the product & the fines.
Please do your job, but be aware that now informed, you will lose your implied immunity for violating Federal laws & procedures if you don't do it by the book, as the dash camera is recording & livestreaming the live video & my voice to company. I was " searched for officer safety, contents of pockets removed, then detained in handcuffs in a car, (during which my phone in thier possession rang unanswered seversl times brgore thry did answer it. Approximately 15 min after which I observed very animated phone conversation. I was immediately removed from car, released, all personel property & paperwork returned, & sent on my way with " Thank you gor your cooperation,, have a safe trip." Postscript: company called San Bernardino County Sheriff's Office, California Hyway Patrol in Sacramento, US Marshal's Service & Hawaiian Expess at same time. Everyone involed recieved a dose of "Audioproctology", & official complaints filed & placed in personal files - CHP & Border Patrol. The law enforcement slush fund (the civil forfeiture monies) is over 5 Billion now.
That is "off the books" monies that can be used by agencies for whatever they want... mostly to increase the militarization of the police departments meant to serve and protect (we are not foreign combatants!)
And used to continue to fund new task forces and schemes to gain even more in civil forfeiture! (Look up project/ operation runway... where police officers not even in the jurisdiction of the airports can go "fishing" for monies as passengers are literally in the final walkway boarding a plane. Saying they are part of TSA, or that it is a random "final check before boarding!)
The laws protecting criminals are much harder, so, like any other unethical and immoral predator, they go after the "easy money"
(Look into criminal asset forfeiture versus civil asset forfeiture.)
I'm so glad for the institute for justice taking on the government about this outrageous atrocity against our own citizens.

The fact that there are no consequences for bad stops is what enables this behavior to continue.
    Officer: "suspect is acting suspicious"
Dog: "alerts on car" (supposedly, in the officer's judgement)
Officers: detain citizen and search vehicle in over one hour stop
    NOTHING FOUND AT ALL
Officer: "have a nice day" (rinse, repeat)
There have to be repercussions for making wholly bad stops. The officer was wrong. The dog was wrong. The search revealed nothing. It was all lies and/or incompetence and the system as it currently exists encourages and incentivizes all of it. No one gets in trouble. No one has to pay for this man's time.
If this is the case, then why not simply have K9 units running traffic? Make up some pretext for a traffic stop, talk to driver, claim they are acting suspicious, bring out the the K9, K9 "alerts", search the vehicle, rinse repeat. This is completely out of control.

I couldn’t understand why he wanted me to sit in his vehicle and proceed to grill me with personal questions. I answered everything but then he turned it to “why are you acting nervous. You’re shaking.” But I wasn’t shaking. I didn’t contradict him but I said but I don’t feel myself shaking or see myself shaking… but he just went on with asking why I was nervous… what’s in the car etc. I finally just was honest and said well, I’ve seen videos of police and I just kept saying “you know… “ because I couldn’t finish the sentence and say “Sir, I’m afraid you might murder me! 😂 he let me go. I’d been going 5 miles over the speed limit. This was in NY. They shouldn’t train cops to do this… this is what they are instructed to do! It’s treating innocent people like criminals. Marijuana has gone recreational legal in my state of Ohio, but none of the K9s that have been trained to alert to Marijuana have been pulled from service. How does the scent of something that is perfectly legal generate probable cause for a search. The dog will never be able to tell us what it smelled. Also, in this day in age, who thinks cops aren't just teaching them to alert to diesel fuel, gasoline, or even automotive carpet. I think some agencies just bring in dogs from home and just say that they alerted so they can search. Bottom line is if cops really want to search they are going to do it legal or not.

I saw the lights go on as there were at least four cops on the far side of the highway. The cop said he couldn't see my tag because of the ultra thin frame around my tag. And the cop stated that tag frames were illegal in Arkansas. He then asked to look in my car which I said no I do not give you permission. He then had me wait for a drug sniffing dog that took 20 minutes and had me stand in the snow with my dog while sniffer ale e ted to something suspicious and then four cops tore into my car looking for drugs that were never found. The stop wasted nearly an hour if my time and I was searched and handcuffed on the side of the road. After all of this nonsense, the original cop seemed exhausted and practically begged me to tell them where the drugs were hidden and before I was finally released, the officer got in my face and said, you know your a liar and there are drugs hidden somewhere in there. I remained silent and drove away. It was a car I was delivering from California to Alabama where my client was moving due to a job change, and he didn't want to use an airline to transport his dog to Alabama. This is why we need federal laws requiring the police to publish the numbers of false arrests they make every day.

As long as we fail to train our cops in civil rights, we can’t even begin to correct this problem. And apparently no amount of Supreme Court decisions or cops losing civil cases is going to do it. It’s time that we stop allowing the police to decide how they’re going to police us, we tell them how to do their jobs, not the other way around, and this has been ass backwards for way too long.

That’s an understatement. It is blown a whole the size of the Grand Canyon through it.

The fact the officer was supposedly going to just write a warning tells me he knew the stop was BS he just wanted in the vehicle to search it for general purposes. Nothing to back up his claims.

I wish I could go back to law school to do this kind of work.

Suspicion is anything the officers can use their imagination to come up with !
