I used to live around the corner from Gigi's and my roommates and I would pick up a slice on almost a daily basis. Then one day it was suddenly closed down as a result of a police raid. It turns out they'd been selling drugs out of the store for quite a while. The story actually made SNL's weekend update. My roommates and I lamented all those fruitless nights we were looking for "party favors" - when all along, it was just a slice away...
I moved away from there 20 years ago and it's still the same guy behind the counter making the pizzas. Always enjoyed pizza Gigi ...especially at 4am.. haha
As a former pizza maker and someone who has ordered many Gigi Pizzas I can say the pizza is awesome except for the crust which is a bit on the cardboard side ... The Big Slice fresh from the oven was my favorite ... Vesuvio is also great pizza 🍕

There were dozens and dozens of different pizza places in Toronto by 1971 and plenty of them are still around. In fact the first chain pizza place opened in 1961! I was born in Toronto in '60 and lived there 39 years. Spent thousands on pizza from all over the city. I have the gut to prove it. Never heard of them. No wonder they rate just a generous 7.

Pizza Gigi is so-so, but the owners are great. I used to go clubbing and at the end of the night, they’d bring pizza from Pizza Gigi into the club. I’m glad Dave gave them a respectable score.

As a Torontonian this series is confirming what I thought -- we have dogshit pizza for the most part. Bello Pizza on Bloor street west is the best I've had though. Would definitely recommend.
Old school Italian Toronto Pizza's are a different things. I like them, but as an Italian Italian now in Toronto for over 30 years, it is the new places opened by young/new Italian arrivals that make the real pizzas. The Toronto Italian thing is the veal Sandwich, California and San Francesco in particular.

If they were opened during Highsccool Hours, it would be all over for Pizza Nova. Gigi's pizza is best after a night at the bar or club. The only pizza from a Pizzeria in Toronto (thats south of Steeles btw) that's better for the price, is Badialis & North of Brooklyn. Maker Pizza is alright and Papa Ceo with the original owners used to be good as well. They too had a great rivalry with Coras next door. Both were located on Spadina near UofT.
