    On his Saint Saëns video I made a silly comment about his great talent being matched by his great hair. The comment got many likes leading me back to the video many times, I have listened to the concert again and again and really enjoyed it. Just goes to show the power of great hair.

    He's gotten even better in the last five years. I heard him tonight with the NY Philharmonic, playing Dvorak. I had a front row center seat directly in front of him, eight feet away. It was a shocking surreal experience. And it was without doubt the finest cello playing I've ever heard. Perfect intonation every second and he played with the most gorgeous and FULL POWERFUL tone imaginable. I'll never forget it. Most astonishing was his utter command and breathtaking expressiveness. And he was as calm and cool as can be. Not a bead of sweat on him. (Like we see in this video.) I have no words for the level of devotion and confidence he exuded playing this piece. I could LIVE in such moments. If only there were more of them in our musical world today.

    I listened to this in bed this morning as I suffer from anxiety and depression and sometimes find it hard to face the day. Suddenly at the end of the piece I shivered so I am alive after all. Thanks be to God for composers and musicians. You are so powerful, being able to bring life and light to the spirit. Blessings and peace be yours.

    • @Quotenwagnerianer
      @Quotenwagnerianer 6 років тому +24

      Do you know the story behind the end of the piece?
      It was composed as an afterthought. Dvorak had already come up with a different plan how to end the piece when his sister in law died. He was in love with her, and he wanted to marry her. But the feeling was not mutual so he settled for the next best thing and married her sister. When she fell ill and he wrote the second movement as a "get well soon" present and incorportated her favourite song that he wrote into the piece. Then when he learned of her death he rewrote the ending of the Finale as a last farewell to her.

    You never hear anyone mention anything about blend on concertos... because people are like it's the soloist. He's so aware, sensitive and considerate of the accompaniment he blends down to balance the sound when his part isn't as important I really respect. That's intense musical maturity, however I don't feel like he does that so people can say that. He does that so he can enjoy it:) that's a musician of the highest caliber. It's a modesty lack of an ego. It's Dvorak not Capucon. Wow. Bravo!!

    The result of an extremely gifted composer and talented musicians in perfect harmony with one another, featuring camera work so fine you can see the discoloration in Mr. Capuçon's fingertips.

      Agreed! And I really appreciate soloists who humble and willing to share the limelight with everyone for the betterment of the piece.

    Je reconnais certaines notes de Dvorak, et tout le mystère qu'il laisse derrière lui. Ce concerto est un véritable poème symphonique!

      JackLovesTSs you hear about a passion like this all of the time. It's so different seeing it and hearing it. It's beautiful. It reminds me of the same passion that I hear when I listen to Chopin.

    I'm with Darrell. The soloist is fantastic and I love the tone of the orchestra. What I liked about the conductor is how focused on the music and the players he was and not on making a spectacle of himself.

    Gautier gives off a truly magnificent performance, the man's masculine looks mixed with the masculine undertones of the music work well and makes this wonderful piece of music come alive.

    One of my favourite piece of music, the third movement is so emotional. For those who are intersted I strongly recommend Jacqueline du Pré's or Paul Tortellier's interpretations.
