Yes, it is. I heard him to play this about 25 years ago in Spain. He is the greatest cello player for me.
Love the way he bring all the emotions, boldness , aggression and harmony just hit. I feel so emotional just by listening and looking at him while he playing. It felt good and fresh. So charismatic and such gentleman too.

This is one of my favourite concertos. I like performances of Rostropovich and du Pré, but this one joins the list. The sound of orchestra is fresh and crispy. I can hear all instruments together, at the same time each of them alone. Mischa plays as well as he looks. Many thanks for publishing!
The orchestra doesn't matter is the soloist that does, when you have someone as Maisky caliber

For me Yo Yo Ma is the epitome of cellist virtuosos of my generation, I did have the privilege of seeing his performance live

Because Bach set it at 84. Misha played it at 84. Except of course he slows down at the end of the first third and some over the top rubato in the 2/3 runoff. I like the interpretation though. It was written simply so that students could play it - it is up to us to add more flourish ;) plus there are so many directions you can take that piece! @@susannagroppello751
Thanks to your answers, the funny ones and the technical one! I am not a musician, I am a dancer studying violin at an adult age, and was very curious about Maisky playing it so fast, as I had never heard it that way. Thank you.

Just like a great artist, Mischa's playing from his younger days to this period matured beautifully. Such boldness and aggression - I'm swooning.
I just watched the Cello Concerto in C by Haydn by Misha Maisky, there's such a big age gap. It feels like I just got on a time machine

I know what you mean. You know he's aged, but just watching/listening to him, he's more vibrant and more sure of himself. It's really exciting. I enjoy listening to Yo-Yo Ma, but something about Maisky that just turns me on. Either is old enough to be my father.
For me Yo Yo Ma is too delicate, only Maisky got the Power!

The Warsaw Philharmonic is one of the best orchestras in the world. Gorgeous sound, precise technique, and wonderful emotions expressed. (The cellist is not bad either.)

Since this is my favorite cello concerto, I have listened and enjoyed many, if not all the best cellists performing it. All had something special to add. Maisky is the closest to my mind to play it as Dvorak would have imagined it. All the passion, his loss of his love is included in Maisky's interpretation. Bravo, bravo.

I never cared much for Cello Concerto #1 but when Mischa plays it FAST and flawlessly as he does at the end of the video it is freaking amazing.

All of these elements were wonderfully expressed by this great orchestra and Soloist !! The Soul of this composition was captured by the Warsaw Philharmonic !! This is the Cello Concerto that Brahms Dreamed of Composing , and one of the reasons he so passionately Championed The music of Dvorak !!!...
Loved this performance. Couldn't wait to see what he would do next. It's not perfect but his tone and the feeling and passion wow.

If you don't feel this interpretation you should dig again and this time around deeper into your inner self. This is great playing. That's what artists do - they create art and Mischa is an Artist with capital A. No discussion.

How can you criticise this performance? It is exciting and edgy throughout, just what live music should be; Maisky has the technique and temperament of a Dupre on Testosterone. I agree that the performance is not totally perfect or to taste throughout, but come on, it's live, not anodyne studio stuff. I love Maisky and his playing and long may he continue to deliver his passion and musicality.
