Making Wild Sand Plum Jelly

  • Antlers are growing, Foodplots are looking great, and so is the native vegetation. The plumbs are thick and we're always up on making plum Jelly. We’re doing some water bath canning, making wild sand plum jelly. #wildkitchen #wildplumjelly
    Wild Sand Plum Jelly Recipe
    4.5 lbs of whole plumbs(makes 5 cups of juice)
    6 cups of sugar
    1 package of Sure Jell pectin
    Rinse and separate plums(good from bad)
    Sterilize jars and lids, will need 8 half pint or 4 pint Jars. Cook plums whole for about 30 minutes. Strain out juice using, jelly bag, cheese cloth or mirro canning food press with wooden pestle. Should yield approximately 5 cups of juice. Put juice and sure jell pectin over medium fire and bring to a boil. Add six cups sugar stirring constantly, bring back to rolling boil for 2 minutes. Pour hot jelly in already hot jars. Note, pouring hot liquid cold jars, will break them. Follow sanitation protocol for water bath canning.
    Place jars in water bath canner and follow manufacturers instructions for water bath canning, to ensure proper seal and proper preservation. Enjoy!

    Great video! Ours wild plums were so abundant this year! I've made a quart of wp syrup, fermented a quart add now I'll make jelly with the rest, thank you! 😋

    Thank you for sharing and for making a short sweet to the point AND you shared an actual recipe! I am so excited to try this. I planted 12 wild plum twigs when we bought our home 9 yrs ago and this yr we got SO many plums that we couldn't possibly eat them all. So I'm gonna have a try at this this yr.

    Good Stuff Michael ! Our place is just about 50 miles West just right across the Border In Texas . It's good to see such good Success nearby. I just bought a old JD seeder like yours but only 8 footer but its good to see how well you did with the old one you have im full of optimism...

      Thank you Paul. They're reliable drills. An 8 footer can maneuver much better than mine. My old drill covers a lot of ground, but you can't turn with it. Every turn you have to raise the disc's to keep from breaking or bending. You're in some great country! That red river basin is awesome. Thanks for watching.
