Seems to me the Super pocket is a gateway drug, but also a potential companion to VS/EXP. I'll probably pick up the Taito one in the new year.
I'd be considering them as potential Xmas presents for someone who's expressed an interest in retro gaming, but isn't all the way invested. Both the Capcom and Taito versions have great built in games. The only shame is that there isn't a cartridge with these built in games. So if you want both the Capcom and Taito games you essentially need to buy two systems.
I think it comes down to how much you're looking to spend and whether you care about extra features...I have the EXP and pre-ordered the Taito Super Pocket, if I like it I plan to buy the Capcom Super Pocket as holiday gifts for family who are more casual gamers.
Both for me, yeah. Gotten the newer EXP half a year ago and the pocket seems like a good travel companion. I already own quite a few cartridges.
I’ve got both, awesome pieces of kit, Taito is worth the money for the in built games alone 😊
I picked an EXP up from Argos in May this year and when you play it in a dark room you can see the green and orange lights from the charging socket and whatever else they are very clearly. Doesn't bother me too much, but if this was not a deliberate design choice I'm surprised it passed testing.
still deciding... really love vertical shooters.
EXP all the way i purchased the Capcom pocket. Its ok, dpad not great, screen to small for my eyes. Traded in for EXP, absolutely love it everything is better.
Brilliant as always Burger Sir!
Have the limited editions of the handhelds on order, I guess they are the same except for having transparent cases. Have to say I was a little alarmed when I seen the handheld you tested in your video, I could not help but notice quite substantial light bleed on the left hand side of the screen!
I guess the vs is for extended game sessions, exp for soap opera sessions and the these for quick blast sessions!
I am really looking forward to the Duke Nukem vs and games!
Stay amazing Sir!
Lol cheers Sam. When looking straight on whilst playing the super pocket, I never noticed the light bleed. I've been assured the final versions won't have this.. we will see... none of the early reviews have commented on light bleed.. suppose that'll be up to me to check when I get them. On release day hopefully!
I’m going to get the Capcom version. For me it makes for cheap out and about gaming.
I don’t really want to take the EXP out of the house as I’d only drop it.
Was gonna give SuperPocket a miss but videos of it are looking pretty nice, probably pick up the Taito
Great pros and cons video and I think you've made my mind up ... I'll probably end up getting both the Super Pocket & EXP but in the meantime my OG & VS are still serving me well :-) Keep up the awesome work!
Lol I hadn't realised you still have not got an EXP yet. Since you've got the VS you're not missing out on too much.. unless you need the capcom stuff.. which if I recall you had on switch anyway..
@@CrazyBurger Still holding out for that Taito Edition EXP ;-)
@@jayme69 ah yeah.. im surprised they didn't do this.. I suspect they are very deliberately targeting a different audience.
I like to see the atari lynx collection played on the super pocket.
Honestly, I plan on getting both.
I never thought about this but the evercade also uses flash memory. That being said, just go for this thing as a pick up and play.
This was a no brainers for me.. I impatiently await mine.. the real question is do I get everyone a special edition for xmas? Sucks waiting for mine to see, will be cutting it close at that point :3
If you cannot update the firmware on HyperMegaTech, then the compatibility with Evercade cartridges will become limited over time. Some newer carts require system updates to run properly (Team 17 etc.). But as an entry-level hardware to the Evercade ecosystem, it looks nice.
Apparently you will be able to update via USB cable similar to the OG handheld.
@@CrazyBurgerwhich was a pain on the original Evercade
Sure was.. though the super pocket wasn't really intended to be updated.. was supposed to be simple.. we will see..
@@CrazyBurger OK, that is a good news. I was worried that there was no way at all.
@@brianbabin6333 nice, I do agree with you.. but what will your Evercade choice cart be?! Tough decisions.
Ive got the exp , still ordered the taito version. Shame no chase hq on there
A glaring obvious exclusion.. shame.
Great video and good comparisons. I love my EXP. Thy only areas I'm not keen on with the EXP are the god awful speakers and the Tate mode, which is a great idea but in execution is really quite poor and uncomfortable for more than a few minutes. But everything else is spot on.
As for the Super Pockets, as an Evercade owner and collector, they're not for me. I can see the appeal, and it seems that they're really well built for the price, but there's just not enough there for me - especially the Capcom system, which has 6 less games than the EXP has built in. It's a great entry for anyone interested in compact, officially licenced retro gaming, and a good value for those wanting to get into the world of Evercade, but for someone like me who's invested in the Evercade ecosystem, I just don't see the need for them.
Could be great stocking fillers though!
You've summed that up pretty perfectly. Especially for everyone that's well on board already with Evercade.
Hey John. I'm holding out for a Ltd Edition EXP that Funstock might release around Xmas 😅 Especially as they've ironed out the teething issues they had initially 😃
Will also probably pick up the Taito HMT as it looks fun and pretty cool too 🤩🤩
Lol not sure they'll have any.. ha we will see..
Hi, how did you play puzzle bobble on the super pocket? It’s not listed as a game in your previous video about all 17 games.
I know.. it was initially included when it was announced but its definitely 100% included in the final version.
@@CrazyBurger awesome I’m gonna order one then.
@@lockedine almost worth it for that game alone. Super addictive.
i've been adamant about not getting one but that Taito one keeps on looking at me saying you know you want me come on buy me.
😂 lol I know what you mean..
Super pocket, I like the gameboy look so much more.
I think the super pocket is definitely more For the Hardcore collectors and maybe casual gamers
I've got two EXP, both faulty. This right now looks like a much better deal. Until I hold one and see how comfortable it is, I'll never truly know. But, the fact they got a basic form of dip switch and excellent screen, this to me is better. Dip switches for Evercade are still not coming until NEXT YEAR 😂😢
Wow that's brutal. They've taken forever to get dip switches onto the EXP.. yet we'll have the ability to choose easy mode for the arcade games straight from launch of the Super Pocket.. I wonder if this will work with every arcade game or just the pre installed ones?..
@@CrazyBurger All arcade games. This has been designed with a very similar but different O.S. Sadly it would seem that as nobody ever thought dip switches were required, the Evercade systems have no capability for it, meaning they're trying to shoe horn something in, that doesn't really fit. Like most things with these systems, I have to question the thought process and design of those involved. These are basic requirements for anything these days. To create physical systems without it, is ludicrous.
I think the Super pockets actually could be seen as better?! 🤔. If you can see them as “Collection” handhelds ONLY. In which Blaze has the option of giving us those out of bounds game companies games !Which you know you know we will NEVER see on the EXP! They just need to push forward in giving us MORE than these Two though to do that! I personally think they are a distraction to the main machine! 🤔
I’m thinking about getting an EXP but am worried it will be superseded by whatever hardware Blaze brings out next.
I'm sure it'll be a while before the release an Evercade 2.
Already on my second EXP and not really interested in the Super Pocket. I wouldn't recommend the EXP to anyone just purely on the vast number of issues people including myself have had with it and the fact that screen aside it doesn't feel anywhere near as premium as the price tag justified. The sound is worse than the original handheld and many of the issues with build quality are retained. You also can't be sure which batch you'd be buying for and its becoming increasingly clear that the initial batch most likely all had faulty batteries.
I've had zero issues with my founders edition. So can't complain there. The early batches of the white were definitely flawed.
Agree. Also on my second EXP. Blaze was great with the customer service, but it makes me wary of their hardware going forward. The OG Evercade (with most current firmware) has been great for me still.
I have the suspect that Blaze made this alternative company just for releasing licensed carts that one day will be playable on Evercade with some hacks! Just think about the EverSD with the Namco cartridges unlocking hack...
Trickier as the games are not loaded to a cart
Have they officially announced anywhere a revision of the exp that resolves all the early teething problems with the launch models I'd like to know. So I can ask a retailer wether I'll receive a model free of issues before I buy one, this is one of the main reasons I'm hesitant to buy. Cos I'm not willing to buy one with the launch issues
Honestly I've no idea. I wouldn't have any confidence in saying any unit you buy now would be free of issues. It would be unclear what versions retailers are stocking. I'd like to think they would be good stock but I couldn't guarantee that.
@@CrazyBurger I know how you feel, I'd like to think the best also. Would be nice if evercade provided some kind of clarity, unfortunately I can't find any relevant information direct from evercade whatsoever
@@1invag Agree. Realistically they shouldve recalled all early units and replaced them. One good point though, if you do get a faulty unit they will replace it fairly quickly.
Super Pocket is the games we probably won’t see on the Evercade
Yeah, most likely completely true. Sadly.
If I had my druthers I'd get both ( or all 3 rather with the two versions of the pocket. I think for me, having just recieved my vs tonight , the EXP makes more sense as an investment, but I grew up with a gameboy original and to be honest playing a gme thats in front of you simulates a small tv setup better and I think I feel a little bit uncomfortable or unnatural controlling a character thats right between my two hands. Its just a bit awkward.
Druthers?
@@CrazyBurger North American origin (word means "preferences" comes from the conglomeration over time of "I would rather." You can see it in novels such as Huckleberry Finn. But it is pretty common speech in some places in United Sates and Canada.
@@sesa2984 interesting.. a new one for me.
@@CrazyBurgerI'm American and it was a new one for me too. 😅
The bigger screen helps when you’re old and have Bifocals
Lol absolutely.. I'm getting to that point soon myself.. old age sucks.
This one plays Evercade games and costs $60. That one plays Evercade games and costs $150. Hmm, tough choice.
Lol In monetary its an easy decision..
Overpriced garbage, like everything from evercade. For $40 you can get Anbernic RG35XX with 3.5" ips screen, hdmi, decent build quality and hardware powerful enough to emulate ps1 library.
well, then buy that instead and use your unlicensed roms. Also, that one costs over 50 dollars.
@@CathrineMacNiel I'm primarily talking about hardware, you can buy much more powerful and well-built device for less money. If you are allergic to unlicensed roms, you can dump your original cd / cartridge and load it's rom on SD card.
