I do this from time to time, as well as do mechanical repairs myself and see how much I can make just for fun. Usually profit margins are around $3000-$7000). I do a full rejuvenation of the exterior (wash, physical/chemical decontamination, cut, polish, coating of the paint and wheels). Complete overhaul of the interior (blowout, vacuum and dusting, cleaning all trim and seats, extraction, dressing). And finish up with fluid changes, new pads, drivetrain inspection and repair if need be, etc... Usually takes me about 3 days and I only ever do it if I can find 3 free days and a very good example of a car/truck that I know I can turn around. I want to say it’s a hobby and something I enjoy every once in a while, but also who would I be if I didn’t prove my worth every once in a while?

Nice video! I have the same steam cleaner. One helpful tip is if you remove the black plastic tip (the one that is replaceable with brushes), you can then shoot steam at higher velocity and lower steam volume (less wet) more like a "steam pressure washer" to really work out stubborn gunk in tight areas... Let me know what you think... 👍

I bought one of those steamers. I work on Vehicles everyday.. They bring in cars with oil leaks. And most have more oil on the outside of the engine. Then there is oil in it..So I charge them just for cleaning that crap off. So I can see the leaks...Plus they can see the engine does not leak anymore. Once I'm done.
The machine paid for itself after the first 4 I did...

That’s 100% true. Mechanics who see a clean engine bay will do better work for many reasons - for respect, yes - but also for fear of having their work scrutinized by an educated owner who frequents their engine bay. Never let a mechanic try and screw you over

I've only had my engine bay cleaned once -- it was steam cleaned, because when I went to go get an oil change.. whoever did it left the cap loose. The entire bay was covered in oil. I was shocked when I soon discovered it. And I was shocked at how new it all looked after I got it steam cleaned by a kind mechanic who hardly charged me at all for it.

In the UK, I had a client who asked me if I pressure washed engine bays. At the time, my insurance didn't cover me, so I declined, but referred them to someone else who could at a little more cost. They went to the cheap, £2 'Hand Car Wash' round the corner ( known in the UK as Wash and Scratch) who just blasted the whole engine bay with their industrial pressure washer. Imagine how much I laughed when the local garage told me it was going to cost £1000s to repair the ruined engine!!!😂

I just found your video and its great. My question is where can I find a good Detailer? There are some Detailers that look real shady. What questions do you ask?
Some car washes I've been too will use their wash wands to clean without removing the battery and no chemicals. The more water the better.
With newer cars and all the electronics who can you trust to do a good job and no mess ups.
My car is a 2012 Audi 7 and it needs an engine detail, HELP.

I use a strong degreaser like spray 9 commercial degreaser and a garden hose to clean the bottom of the engine and a rag for hard to clean grime. It’s great for getting all the oil from the bottom of the car to find oil leaks. My car had a trans leak which Got fixed but the bottom is covered in oil. Bunch of degreaser and pressure rinse later, she’s free of all grease and oil

I keep my engine bays and underneath where the oil pans, transmissions, transfer cases, differentials, wheel wells, struts/shocks, and interior are spotless at all times. The same goes maintenance wise as well, using only premium products. The biggest reasons are -
    1. If there is a leak, it can be spotted immediately.
    2. Having a dirty engine and/or radiator is the equivalent of wearing a coat in the middle of summer.
    3. Vehicles cost way too much to not care for them properly.
    4. Confidence - Never know if/when I need to make a last minute trip and knowing either vehicle will get us there and back with almost no chance of mechanical/electrical incidents.
And "Yes" - Whenever a mechanic is involved (which is almost nil except for warranty reasons), they do treat my vehicles far better than anyone else's, every time, of which I am always grateful.

Mechanic friend told me if he works on a car that needs a board to hold up the hood because they can't spend $30 on a new set he isn't going to be as careful with the car because they don't seem to care much. @@acrobatiqa Yeah, I typically just cover the battery with a plastic bag so that it can't get wet and everything else is pretty decently waterproof. Don't directly apply steam to any wires but most surfaces can stand it and will definitely get cleaner.

This clip really shows the special skills that not all detail people can do is clean and detail the engine carefully and cautiously. Thank you so very much for the engine clip of your own 2012 Ford F-150 truck. Thank you so very much for a wonderful detail clip. You are doing a fantastic job. Continue to do you and never let anyone take your thunder away because you are one of a kind, unique and special. You really made my day really good and lovely. I know this is an old video and you don't have this truck anymore, but on the off chance that you or someone else reads this when you get corrosion like that on your positive battery cable it generally means that the voltage regulator in the alternator failed and is overcharging the battery where as corrosion on the negative terminal can either mean the battery is going bad or the alternator itself is not putting out enough voltage.... Either way just something to watch out for in the future. Keep up the good work.

Slap a little copper based anti-seize on there. Works great preventing future acid buildup.

There’s microfibre towel specific detergent, but it’s just mostly cleaned tossing them into the wash on cold. Avoiding your super dirty towels with less dirty drying towels, otherwise you’ll get bits in your good towels you use to dry your vehicle, scratching up your paint.

    • @supercharged00gtp

USe a free and clear detergent. do not allow any fabric softener. Use warm water for wash, add a splash of degreaser for really bad towels. As noted, keep paint towels separate from interior as well. tumble dry on low/delicates setting or air dry.

That’s a very hard thing actually. I work full time, have a wife and 3 kids, go to the gym most days, and have to fit detailing and editing videos into an already busy life. I guess for me, though sometimes I fail at it, but it’s about setting certain times to do things...so I hit the gym in the morning before work, spend time with the family after work, and then edit when the kids go to bed. Doesn’t leave a whole lot of time for sleep, but that’s overrated anyways 😜
