I was probably 6 or 7 yrs. old when my (much) older brother brought home the Ramsey Lewis album of Maiden Voyage. It literally opened my ears and eyes to jazz forever. I am eternally grateful to my brother...changed my life.
Fabulous live version of one of Herbie’s most important and memorable compositions. This is a piano solo so if you were expecting to hear the whole band, you’ll have to look elsewhere. Thanks for uploading.
So he asks the audience if it was alright to play a piece he’s played many times in the past..then he pays this totally unique version I’ve never ever heard before. Jazz evolves..always new.

Maiden Voyage is still one of my favorite "Instrumentals"
Why does that indicate you never actually listened to instrumental music?
I discovered Herbie this year at 16.
Bless you child. You’re life has now been changed.

Wah Wah and Herbie!! And Ndugu!! Everybody here is pure fire
A lot of people when they get older, their voices change to some degree, but Herbie sounds the exact same today.
Yes he's 80 now and his voice never change.
He's a man you can honestly say has sounded his note.
And yes indeed his voice and demeanor haven't changed at all.
unbelievable intro to a masterpiece🌿🌿🌿
One of my favorite songs, done by so many others including adding vocals. He is the BEST
Excellent. Thanks
Apart from a stunning version of Maiden Voyage... that would have to be some of the best (by way of sympathetic camera work) I have seen .. Beautiful.
