I love your lifestyle, guys! I am 78, this month, and could switch places with you in a heartbeat. This is the way the settlers, pioneers, lived. Wholesome, hardworking, creative, healthy lives. Giving your daughter this experience will set her up for a future that will give her a well-balanced life. I hope you consider adding to your young family. A son would balance you out perfectly...lol! While you were enjoying rain and thirty degree temps, in Alaska, we are freezing our butts off in my small Canadian town! Looking forward to your next video. Those shelves were perfect for displaying all your mason jars. I am a huge fan of open shelving. Stay well, be safe and, most of all, be happy❤
Thank you so much for the kind words! ❤️ We feel very blessed to get the chance to live this way and to raise a family on the homestead. We are still growing, and a son would definitely balance things out! We are so happy you enjoyed the video and we wish you stay well, safe, and happy as well 😊
Be careful. Dennis might end up even more outnumbered than he already is. Then again that wouldn't be such a terrible thing either. Family is family. Btw nice looking pantry shelves.
Your vlogs are always so entertaining. I so look forward to each one. I used to can a lot. over a hundred each green beans, tomatoes, beets,. The I froze a hundred bags of corn, broccoli and cauliflower. With 3 kids sometimes it wasn;t enough. The kids were raised on deer, elk, rabbit, turtle, and used to fight over the squirrel heads I boiled. Fried squirrel is devine along with wild mushrooms.. Watching you all brings back many memories. The kids are nearing their sixties and we are on a beach in Costa Rica, but the memories of our Indiana farm still linger. Thank you so much for letting us visit and tag along.
Wow I never thought I would hear another person talk about fighting over the squirrel heads!!! I helped my Dad skin them and Mom made gravy biscuits and fried apples for us 6 kids. We came in from school and there was the pot of fried squirrel and yes, we fought over the heads!! 🥰
Thank you so much! That is an amazing amount of food to put up! Fried squirrel and wild mushrooms sounds delicious, we will try that this next mushroom season 😊 we hope you are enjoying some warm weather in Costa Rica, and thank you for watching!

I Love watching you guys! I was so excited when I saw you had a new video out. Love how easy you guys made it look like when you built the new shelves and put them up. I’m trying to convince my son he can do it for me 🤗
I have missed alaska so much and watching your channel has made me miss it even more cold weather and all.i moved to Texas about a year ago and now thinking of moving back again. Watching yall drive to anchorage I know where you are everywhere you go just from living in the valley the last 5 years I was there and growing up in anchorage as a kid everywhere you go I'm like oh I know where they are or oh ya I've been there lol thanks for making me less home sick keep up the good work I'll tune in every video.
....made me laugh. Seeing Chistochina's Posty's fuel and trading post. Worked and lived in Chistochina over 26+ years ago now when we first came to Alaska. Oh the stories.... Awesome channel and in true Alaska tradition (i have a good idea where you are) ever need anything brought from the valley let us know....we go to Tok often for family and our own getaway. Keep up the great work. 👍
I'm new to your channel and I've only seen two videos so far. Both times you were making a trip for supplies. I'm amused at how you pack your lunch in mason jars. I've only seen mason jars used for canning vegetables, but you guys take it to a whole other level canning chilli and stew and stuff.
"The (ice) will make the trip interesting". I absolutely love, Amy snd Dennis, your positivity; your industriousness (do you *ever* just have a do-nothing day??? 😊); your adaptability; your sharing of skills; the very obvious appreciation you have for each other; your caution in shielding Lena's face; your concern and care for your animals; so much more! Could go on and on. Thank you both for sharing your lives! Take care...and stay warm 😊!
We always take food & emergency blankets/kit along even though it's only a few hours into shop. It could be that someone else on the road needs help too!
If the eggs freeze do you throw them out? My friend justs cooks them all up and stores them in the fridge for breakfast wraps. He cooks them 68% with some runny in them to store . Then puts a wrap on the grill with cheese and finishes the eggs. Peppers salsa and sausage bits some times hash browns. They last about 3-5 days quick meal great protein. I suppose you could freeze them once cooked too.
Strongly recommend you trade the ATV in for a side-by-side. I have a Polaris Ranger and the extra weight, along with the longer and wider wheel-base makes it a much better snow machine. It also has a dump-bed rated for 600 pounds (I've had a half-ton in it and it did fine). Funny, we're not anywhere near as remote from "civilization" as you guys, but we do the same thing: Make lists of things to purchase and then go on "expedition", where we hit all of the stores, get all of the maintenance done, stop for treats and maybe a sit-down restaurant, then drive home and spend hours unloading and stowing all of our acquisitions. Total round-trip for us is about 6-8 hours........ Unless it's snowing, then it's more like 9-10............... Edit: Always love seeing an old Buck 110 lock-blade knife. Reminds me of my childhood, as it was the first blade my Dad gave me.
One day maybe we will upgrade to a side by side! My husband’s father also gave him a buck 110 as his first blade. It’s one of our favorite tools! Thank you for watching 😊
Yes those chores that have to be done ! Glad you had a safe trip :) Moose on the fire 👍, I've been so busy with firewood I have a hard time to get out for a cook up ! Great videos :) Take care stay warm or dry in that crazy weather"
Just curious... do you guys have a Ham Radio (Amateur Radio) setup (home cabin or your car), in case you need to call for help or assistance with anything? Even a low power, basic solar powered setup with a simple wire antenna could save your lives when all other communications don't work! These simple Ham Radio transceivers are a great link to the world!

I visited Delta Junction and Quartz Lake in 2000. Beautiful area. Y'all live even further than that? Enjoyed yet another video. Them burgers looked yummy!
Only memory we have of that gas station you stopped at in the beginning.... is stopping after a long drive down from Fairbanks during June, and getting a weeks worth of protein before I realized the swarm of mosquitos was outside the door. Was at the tail end of a 10 day trip around the highway system. Hit the Kenai first (Homer, Soldotna, Seward, glacier day cruise), then went up to Palmer to start making the loop. Was supposed to be moved up there by now, but life has a way of getting in the way. Looking like another 2-3 years now most likely, and that is if everything goes well from here on. 😢 EDIT: Along the vein of gas station memories... the gas station across from Fred Meyer in Palmer, we stopped at when we drove up from Seward. The lady noticed we were from out of state, and asked where we were staying. We said we would be staying in the car in the Fred Meyer parking lot. She immediately told us she "couldn't live with herself if she let us do that and something happened to us", because they had a biker rally going and had some issues that week because of it. She sent us across town to a church that backs up to the airport, that allows their parking lot to be used so people have a safe place to spend the night like that. NEVER would anyone down here get concerned about a random tourist like that. Absolutely loved all the nice people we met in Alaska.
Bookmarking both recipes, especially the compound butter one - have you guys thought of making other varieties of butter (garlic butter, honey butter, etc.)? In case it hasn't been said, y'all are so fortunate to live in such a beautiful place! Cheers from Western NC!
