I grew up in the 60s and 70s and it was an era of the greatest songs ever recorded and so many have gone by and we've forgotten how good they are. This is one of those songs. Now I can't stop listening to it again.
There's just something about this song, the harmony I think....it's just so soothing. Like I want to fall asleep listening to this. Not saying it's boring or something, it just makes me feel like I can relax, because everything will be all right, lol.
The music video to this musical masterpiece of a song is in itself a visual masterpiece - one of the best rock music videos ever made. Clean, crisp, technically competent with long single takes, and telling a perfect story.
He's changed (compared to my youth in the 60's), his voice has roughened, their music is different, the line up is reconfigured, but are they STILL great? Yes!!! Every time I've seen them has been a gift. As long as Justin and John front them and Mr. Edge is setting the rhythm, they remain the Moody EFFIN Blues. We thank you. Isn't life strange? Isn't life wonderful.
What a shame this only has 24K views...one of the greatest and most influential rock bands to EVER come along. And yet (C)rappers get 10s of millions views for non-melodic jungle chants, set to a primitive beat. Shows just how far down the (C)rapper the music industry promoters have dragged popular music in the last number of years.
CRAPPY MUSIC! THIS 80S SONG MAKES ME UNHAPPHY! HOW ABOUT THE SONG TUESDAY AFTERNOON BY THE SAME BAND INSTEAD FROM THEIR CORE 7 PERIOD WITH MIKE PINDER! NOW THAT IS GREAT MUSIC THAT ME HAPPY!
I saw him this July 9 2024 in Hershey Theater. Front row center. Justin sounds even better than in this video. Nights in White Satin, he sounded just like he did in the 70’s. Hit all the high notes and held them out long. I was amazed. Unbelievable.
Me encanta esa cancion,el romance entre una chica y un musico y la envidia y celos de sus compaňeros hacia ellos....pero el amor gano juntos por fin en el segundo video que hicieron ambos me encanta
Time of hang it up boys....Do you really need to sell another record of the old tunes??? Loved the Moodys in the late sixties and seventies....saw them live in the nineties when they made the "Red Rocks" thing into their second coming/industry.....Enough is enough though.
I hate when bands use a second drummer. I never like that. If you're a good enough drummer, you don't need a second drummer and this man right here happens to be one of those legends that should not be playing with another drummer
I’m a big Moody Blues fan and attended more shows than I can remember. It was pretty clear to the fans that Graeme didn’t want to work as hard. Graeme and Gordy sounded INCREDIBLE together.
In hindsight it is visually obvious that Graham Edge was nowhere near as good as he used to be. He had suffered a stroke the year prior to this performance.
UA-cam is way overboard with advertisements! It was necessary to wait out an advertisement than ran in excess of 3 minutes to watch & listen to the selected video. "F" UA-cam and this continues for long, then I will abandon UA-cam. No bullshit.
Gareme Edge wasn't really playing drums. You can tell. He's wayyyyyyy behind. Sad when these old musicians keep touring and can't play anymore, so they have a "surrogate/back up" band on stage with them (or slightly offstage) to literally play their parts for them. See also: Fleetwood Mac since 2010.
Kriegsbeil: Please take note at exactly 3:40 - 3:44 on the video timeline here. If you watch that :04 piece MULTIPLE TIMES IN LOOP, you'll see that "drum roll down, was performed ONLY by Graeme Edge and NOT the 2nd drummer...the 2nd drummer was staying in "cross-stick mode" on the Snare & Hi-Hats the whole time...that is to say, NEVER ONCE, did he even remotely touch an upper tom drum or floor tom, in that "lick"; that was ALL Graeme Edge. Also, you mentioned, "Graeme Edge wasn't really playing drums. You can tell. He's wayyyyyyy behind." NOT TRUE. That may "appeared" to be so, but not the case; Graeme was playing 1/4 notes on the hi-hats, where the 2nd drummer was playing 1/8 notes on his hi-hats, which "may" give an optical impression that Edge was "way behind", but that was NOT the case at all. It's just plainly speaking, Graeme was playing in half-meter...and Gordon Marshal, his 2nd drummer, was playing in the song's full-meter, for lack of a better & more technical explanation. Forgive me if it sounds like I am trying to reply to you in a "nasty" way, I am not, but rather, point out the consistencies. BCRadio
Does any one of the "Drummer Aficionados" watching this clip, know who is the back-up drummer to Graeme Edge? I believe, just from a far glimpse, since the cameras were not on him much, that was MICKEY CURRY, who was with Hall & Oates from the late 70s to mid 80's & did much studio work with Bryan Adams; am I correct on that? BTW way, there was a couple other commentators here on the thread who had some VERY NASTY words to say why Graeme needed a back-up drummer in the first place. It goes back to the NASTY televised court case when Haywood, Lodge & Edge felt that they needed to dismiss Patrick Moraz (keyboardist) from the Moody Blues in the early 90's, because, as Haywood simply put it, "He was no longer sounding good!" (verbatim) The defense argued, if that's the case then why does Mr. Edge need a 2nd drummer on stage with him during concerts; perhaps HE is no longer "sounding good" as well? When Edge took the witness stand, he testified that in the late 80s, during their "The Other Side of Life" & "Sur la Mer" album releases, they were experimenting with alot of different kinds of electronic percussion, in addition to his traditional acoustic drum kit and if they were to stay true to those "newer" types of sounds in their concerts & tours, then they would NEED a 2nd drummer and/or percussionist on stage, so he (Edge) could focus on playing his acoustic set & the 2nd drummer/percussionist could handle electronic percussion samples, as well as even a 2nd set of acoustic drums, if needed. BTW, the three key members of The Moody Blues won that legal case, but still needed to pay Moraz a somewhat minimal departing severance package. And that was that! Since then, Edge had ALWAYS welcomed a 2nd drummer/percussionist on stage with him. HEY, if you're the drummer of one of THEE MOST popular rock bands of all time, then quite bluntly, if YOU want a 2nd drummer to back you up, then there shouldn't be ANY rebuttal on that. How many guitar players did the Eagles had, have & recruited after the loss of Frey...I loose count. No one brings up the issue why .38 Special & of all bands, The Doobie Brothers, ALWAYS had dual drummers? And what about Phil Collins in concert as a solo artist? He ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS had accomplished drummer Chester Thompson by his side on his own MASSIVE drum kit. While Phil was really good with his signature "time switching" skills & juicy, fancy backward-flip drum rolls, Thompson was there keeping PERFECT METER on his drums, while playing them like he was jack hammering cement sidewalks & sledgehammering brick walls! Enough said... Rest In Peace, Mr. Graeme Edge; Mister #1 Drummer! ...BolsaChicaRadio ============== PS: (Here I go again...I'm just on a friggin' roll here. Oh yeah...one last thing...my original question; was that MICKEY CURRY along with Graeme, or not? Goodbye. Oh yes...try to have a "nice" day, too!
Second drummer was Gordon "Gordy" Marshall. My understanding was that he was brought on board back in the early 1990s to back up Graeme while he was healing from a shoulder injury. I would guess that Gordy worked out so well, they kept him on for more than 20 years. Gordy left in 2015 to pursue other ventures, and he was replaced by Billy Ashbaugh. Billy played until the band stopped touring in 2018.
@@CrankyBeach Thank you SO much C.B., for bringing forth this great "PERCUSSIVE" information to answer my question! I really thought it was Mickey Curry at Graeme's side, but indeed because of your thorough detail, it was GORDY MARSHALL...a dang great sounding drummer!!! As I was once a drummer, it would have been an COMPLETE HONOR to take 2nd seat to the great/late Graeme Edge. Who knows? One of the best bands and songs ever! Brings back memories of growing up in the 70's. Best time ever. 8/24
My husband (then boyfriend) introduced me to the Moody Blues in 1967. I was hooked. Greatest band ever.

I agree with you. But remember this song is an '80s song. It came out in 1986
true but The Moody Blues started in 1964 so this song is just another of what I grew up on from them.
Even the bad ones are better than most of today's songs.
A timeless classic! Grew up to this band!
My parents were MB fans and then I became the Fanatic of the family. I've lost count the number of MB concerts I've been to since childhood. ❤
Nearly every song they have makes me think about my younger years and how the cause me to think about all the people who I once loved.
