I have a wii u but I never modded it since I was always too scared to do it. I have been thinking about modding it in the last couple of weeks though. I have modded my 3ds a few months ago and it is just amazing! I'm still a little scared about modding my wii u but I feel way more confident now Update: I finally modded my Wii U after like 5 months :) It worked without any problems and I am kinda proud of myself ngl But also thank you to everyone that encouraged me to mod my Wii U :)
I had this same problem, but modding the wii u pays off very much. backing up the wii u to avoid bricking is a part of the homebrew installation process, and installation is just moving files onto an SD card of your choice and hitting the A button on the gamepad. If you feel on edge, you should do it.
Same here, but it was actually really easy! People always warn you of Bricks but they're pretty rare actually. Especially if you do everything like you are supposed to be doing it. Start with Tiramisu and if you feel comfortable, switch to Aroma. It has way more capabilities
It's actually one of the best Wii U HB videos I've watched. Although I have many of the plugins/apps mentioned here already installed on my Wii U (for snes I have a classic mini) THIS VIDEO IS A FKING MASTERPIECE
i modded my wii u in 2020 during the pandemic. it's kinda sad how the wii u has barely any engaging homebrew while the wii has media players, ports and even original games. in any case, good video, keep up the good work
i bought a wii u and discoverd it was unessesary. it can do less things then the original wii. only benefit is it can play wii u games. but the modding is 90% to the viritual wii.
@@JanMurmansimo its worth having a modded wii u over just a modded wii, not just because of the games that the wii u has to offer but because the gamepad can be used as its own screen for a plethora of games and makes DS/GBA games genuinely playable through virtual console roms
There are other homebrew ports to Wii U like Super Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time 3D. Also, Nintendont is compatible with many control options including the gamecube adapter. Another noteworthy Wii U homebrew is Bloopair which allows you to connect other controllers to the Wii U. Last but not least: the advantage of Wii "Wii U home screen installs" over the vWii is that the installed wii apps can use the gamepad as "pro controller". The vWii needs a wii mote to be used.
If I wanted to play a wii game with the wiiu pro controller or the game pad (game supports classic controller and Gamecube controller) would this work?
@@LairofSkulls You can play Wii VC Injects with the gamepad if the game supports the pro controller (or gamecube with nintendont). The Wii U Pro controller doesn't work tho. At least not with normal Wii VC injects
It’s too bad the Wii U homebrew community isn’t very big. It seems like the perfect device for homebrew and emulation. I really hope more crazy bullshit comes out for this console like the 3ds and Wii. Rn it looks like the only big project in the works is pretendo really.
This is the first I’ve heard about the NAND flash issue. I did have all my save data wiped cause I didn’t use it for a while, but dang I gotta look into that other issue
For any wanting to play StarFox Zero listen carefully, don't play the main story first. Go to training mode and spend about two hours learning the controls, because the motion controls are kinda complicated. There's a minus button that swap screens and you have the ability to turn the motion controls on or off in the pause menu. It's easier to shoot everyone in first person mode, where as all ranged mode is easier for avoiding enemies.
I actually found out that in Nintendont you can use the analog trigger on the gamepad by pressing L and ZR at the same time and it will act like the analog trigger getting pushed
so ik this videos old but i am looking into homebrewing my wii u for pretendo (and more stuff). i am literally brand new to this sorts and know NOTHING is there any sorts of guides or indepth explainations to get into homebrewing cus i know nothing in the slightest 😭😭
I modded my wii u last month because of the online shutdown for nintendo network so I can use pretendo and I don't regret it even though the only mod I have is mario kart generations for mario kart 8
I modded my Wii U a couple months ago and recently got the VC injector to play GameCube games. Of course I also have Nintendont. That's one downside to the Wii U. It should have had GameCube games for the Wii U Virtual Console and all the more reason because it had the controller adapter which unfortunately was only compatible with Smash 4.
Hey awesome dude, I know this videos old, so you might not see this, but do you have any idea how to make SDCaffiine work? I have all the files, I’m trying to install a theme. And Funkyscott’s tutorial has helped me up until the point where it’s meant to boot on home screen. Help pls :(

The Wii and Wii U do NOT go for "about the same price." You can find a working Wii dirt cheap. You can't even get the Wii U tablet that cheap. Also if you get a quality Wii2HDMI adapter (like the Mayflash) or use the Nintendo OEM component cables, the Wii and GameCube games will look BETTER than via vWii on your HDMI Wii U. Don't even argue that point. It's been proven many times over, including here on UA-cam. Only mess with a Wii U if you also want to play Wii U games. All six remaining exclusives that is. And only if you don't want to run them on CEMU.
I'm planning on modding my Wii U soon either this year or next year, but there's one problem... I don't own a computer and a 32 or 128GB SD card, or even a Flash Drive (even though I have one, but I mostly use it for PS2 Free McBoot. 😅), or a HDD external hard drive (also have that too, but I use it for my PS5 to stores some more PS4 games 😂). 🙃

Thats because there is no decompiled version of the retro engine portion of sonic 3 yet.

The jailbreak scene for wii u is small compared to switch but im glad it exists
There is also a native port of sm64 and zelda oot running at 60fps
