Came here to say this. My WiiU is basically a HDMI equipped GameCube. It's a shame that that adapter for GC pads is kind of rare and expensive, and is supported by so little. You can use it in GC games but bizarrely Nintendo never supported it in vWii...WHY!?

Hold B on boot on an unmodded console to directly boot the wii menu. Holding B with tiramisu will give you the homebrew launcher, and holding start with tiramisu or aroma will give the boot selector shown in the video.

I love how if the battery dies, you plug it in, and can immediately turn it on again. With Switch, once the battery is dead, I have to wait for 10mins of charging or something before I can turn the thing on again, =P. Since the GamePad is only a screen, and the console is plugged into the mains, it doesn't take a lot of charge to get the screen going again. So if you lose power suddenly, you can just reach for the GamePad power cord, and get back into things quickly.

The full hardware Wii and GC inside the Wii U are the reason I've modded mine. That should be a big reason for you. Don't expect video quality over HDMI to be pixel perfect hough. Not every part of the Wii hardware is integrated into the console, including the video circuitry. That is emulated in software, and the software has a bug that makes Chroma for red and green shifted by one pixel (you can read about in some forums, they're looking for a solution to this). Some things I want to point out:
You can use a Wii u VCinject called tecon moon to inject wii games, gamecube games right on the wii u UI.
You can use the Wii u tablet as a controller and a screen for gamecube games and Wii games.
Playing gamecube games on the wii u is an awesome experience.
It also gets rid the need to to use upscalers for your wii or gamecube consoles.
The Wii U had a few great games, one being mario maker, the mario maker experience was significantly better on wii u than switch due to the touch pad controls.
Game and wario was a real fun with its clever use of the tablet controls.
One game in particular was the pictionary clone and I still every Christmas and thanksgiving will play the pictionary clone with my family.
Zelda Windwaker HD is a great experience and so it Twilight princess HD because of the map and inventory systems being put on the tablet, you don't skip a beat switch items or figuring out where you are.
I think the sad part about the Wii U failing is the tablet never got to be fully used. It was a second screen meaning you could have split gameplay experiences that no other console could provide, it's why the pictionary clone works so darn well, the drawing people are the only ones who know what the answer is, I could have imagined that idea being more refined for other experiences.

The split screen possibility using the gamepad has its pros and cons. I remember first time playing MK8 in local multiplayer I thought it was dumb that they had the split screen when they could have used the gamepad for one player.
Later on, playing Sonic all stars racing transformed (which does exactly that) I realized its not as fun if there are more friends watching you playing against another friend, cause they only get to see the PoV from the one player playing on the TV, making me realize that split screens are not that bad after all.

Is possible that the tablets are region locked due to the wireless communication. Wireless standards vary from country to country and you can get in a lot of trouble if your device doesn't comply. For example Japan has Wi-Fi channels that we are not allowed to use in North America or anywhere else outside of Japan. Devices that broadcast on those channels can't be set for sale in basically any country other than Japan. Could be something like that.
Shure, a company big in the microphone and sound industry has wireless products that are different for each region and non-compatible for just that reason.

Wii U modding has come so far and I can't wait to see the insane things people do with it in the future. For example, playing Lego island on it.
Btw, you can have a separate icon for the homebrew launcher in base tiramisu. You just put a file in the install folder and use wup installer to install it. Then, you can delete the file that injects the mii maker with the homebrew launcher.

The Wii U Gamepad region locking is due to the Wi-Fi frequencies the gamepad uses to communicate with the console. Each region (and even country!) has different frequency bands allocated for Wi-Fi, and if a North American gamepad were to communicate with a Wii U in Europe, it would use a non-permitted frequency by European standards, and therefore would be illegal.

Thing is, the Wii U was never “bad” in the first place. • @HenrikSven
      @HenrikSven 2 роки тому +15

Part of the issue with that though is so much of that library is made up of games from previous consoles you could play on a system you likely already own. It’s got access to ds games, but chances are you’ve already got a ds since it’s the second best selling console of all time, and if you wanted to play Wii games or GameCube games you’d probably just be able to play them on the Wii you already own, given how well that sold too. Plus plenty of the nes and snes games were available through the Wii’s shop and the 3ds shop.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s fantastic how much backwards compatibility was available for the Wii U, it’s just that for so many people that wouldn’t be giving them something they didn’t already have.

@@ModernButSimple You watched the video, yes? Pretty much that. It's very poorly designed and doesn't seem to understand its own gimmicks. Even first-party games had issues like not giving you sound through the gamepad while you're not on your TV or having to turn on the TV while playing on the gamepad because some menu doesn't show on the gamepad screen. The advertising focused on how you can play on the gamepad, and you can't really do that with most games.
The web browser sucks and it can't read and play DVDs or anything so you can't really use it as a media device. And the fan is freaking loud, anyway.
Nintendo did a lot of nonsense with their first-party titles. They had games where the gamepad doesn't work in multiplayer for some god-awful reason, so in effect they force you to have three controllers for two players. Mario Kart for some reason maps an action like three times to various buttons on the Wiimotes while putting break and drift on the same button so Wiimote players can't breakdrift. They had several games with Miiverse integrations required to do certain things, sometimes even to 100% a game, which they now shut down. So many things about this thing just suck and I had far more trouble with it than its worth. I wish I had just emulated those games on my PC instead.

The Saturn would have better 3D hardware and no early launch that rug-pulled its developers and retailers. it wasn't until a while later when I realized that it was because the Wii remote could do several types of button inputs with its cursor and a stylus can only just...tap. but now I have ALSO come up with a possible way it could be integrated (only concerning the button layouts, though, as I don't know any of the actual coding stuff), and I intend to make the suggestion to the Aroma dev(s), if they could possibly integrate such a feature.
it's honestly exciting to see what new advancements people make with relatively recently obsolete consoles, and considering the Wii U's unique Gamepad controller, a lot could really be done with it!

@@egon3705 to put some context/reiterate, the reason the stylus cant be used on the Wii menu as of now is because the Wii remote had SEVERAL buttons attached to the pointer + some games required having the cursor on the screen with no input, to calibrate or to make sure you aren't AFK, resulting in an annoying pop-up onscreen.
so in order to fix this, I propose that the left shoulder and trigger buttons on the gamepad should be "stylus buttons":
holding the left trigger makes tapping do B presses instead of A presses, and holding the shoulder button makes tapping not do any inputs at all. these buttons can be pressed and released mid-tap too, like you would be able to release the shoulder button mid-tap to do an A press, or vice versa to stop holding A. as for the right shoulder and trigger buttons, those would be for the nunchucks' C and Z buttons respectively.
2 would be mapped to the gamepad's B, and 1 to Y (though you would be able to change this), and the right stick would be for tilting.
finally (and this is a maybe feature because I don't know if they know how to do this yet), the seldom-used TV button would finally be given a good use: it would toggle whether the console detects your gamepad as an upright remote, or a sideways one.
it isn't perfect and kind of complicated, but I think it's a good start. let me know what you think :]

The Wii U is a great emulation station, trumped only be the Xbox Series S, and even then it can be a toss up when you consider the latter still struggles with some GC/Wii games that a Wii U wouldn't. It's also one of, if not the best way to emulate DS due to the gamepad.

I liked the Wii U at the time... For me 3D World WAS a main Mario that actually pleased me more than Galaxy 2. I loved the integration of the Miiverse in the game. I loved Nintendo communication at the time between Reggie and Iwata. It was a comfy environment.
The console didn't had a lot of game but i loved them all. From Wonderful 101 to Project Zero 5 and even strange stuff like Tokyo Mirage Session was like the first Atlus RPG with actual level design in the dungeon ! Before Persona 5 ! Of course, there were Nintendo games like Splatoon, Pikmin 3, Mario Kart 8 which had awesome DLCs and Smash Bros. To this day, i wonder where the small Nintendo games like NES REmix or Pushmo went... Because on the Wii U they were very cool ! I remember even setting my Wii U in a train station to continue Bayonetta 2 at the time... It was fun !
Nowadays unfortunately, the stick of my gamepad is loose and as the video mention it, replacing it seems like a nightmare. Most of the game except some exception like Xenoblade X is either being replaced on the Switch with better evaluation than their initial release ( The famous "funky kong effect".... Thanks Donkey KOng Tropical Freeze ) or just a follow up that is very close to the original Wii U game and replace it entirely. ( Splatoon 2, Smash BRos... I would argue Mario Kart 8 is doing that little by little )
So yeah, the mod is good but... I already have a Wii and all the console from Nintendo that i need unfortunately so that mod would be wasted on me....
    enthusiastic

Tiramisu is a coffee-flavoured Italian dessert. It is made of ladyfingers (savoiardi) dipped in coffee, layered with a whipped mixture of eggs, sugar and mascarpone, flavoured with cocoa. The recipe has been adapted into many varieties of cakes and other desserts.[1] Its origin is disputed between the Italian regions of Veneto and Friuli-Venezia Giulia. The name comes from the Italian tirami su (lit. 'pick me up' or 'cheer me up').[2]
    History
Tiramisu appears to have been invented in the late 1960s or early 1970s, but where and when exactly is unclear.[3][4] Some believe the recipe was modeled after sbatudin, a simpler dessert made of egg yolks and sugar.[5] Others argue it originated from another dish, dolce Torino.[6]
The tiramisu recipe is not found in cookbooks before the 1960s.[7][8][9] It is mentioned in a Sydney Morning Herald restaurant column published in 1978.[10] It is not mentioned in encyclopedias and dictionaries of the 1970s,[11][12][13] first appearing in an Italian dictionary in 1980,[14] and in English in 1982.[15] It is mentioned in a 1983 cookbook devoted to cooking of the Veneto.[16]
Obituaries for the restaurateur Ado Campeol (1928-2021) reported that it was invented at his restaurant Le Beccherie in Treviso on 24 December 1969 by his wife Alba di Pillo (1929-2021) and the pastry chef Roberto Linguanotto.[17][18][19] The dish was added to its menu in 1972.[20][21][22] Accounts by Carminantonio Iannaccone claim the tiramisu sold at Le Beccherie was made by him in his bakery, created on 24 December 1969.[23]
It has been claimed that tiramisu has aphrodisiac effects and was concocted by a 19th-century Treviso brothel madam, as the Accademia Del Tiramisù explains, to "solve the problems they may have had with their conjugal duties on their return to their wives".[19][24]
There is evidence of a "tiremesù" semi-frozen dessert served by the Vetturino restaurant in Pieris, in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia, since 1938.[25] This may be the name's origin, while the recipe for Tiramisu may have originated as a variation of another layered dessert, zuppa inglese.[26] Others claim it was created towards the end of the 17th century in Siena in honour of Grand Duke Cosimo III.[27]
On 29 July 2017, Tiramisu was entered by the Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies on the list of traditional Friulian and Giulian agri-food products in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region.[28][29] In 2013, Luca Zaia, governor of Veneto sought European Union Protected Status certification for the dessert, based on the ingredients used in 1970, so substitute ingredients, such as strawberries, could not be used in a dish called tiramisu.[30][31][32]
    Original ingredients
Traditional tiramisu contains a short list of ingredients: ladyfingers (savoiardi), egg yolks, sugar, coffee, mascarpone and cocoa powder. A common variant involves soaking the savoiardi in alcohol, such as Marsala wine, amaretto or a coffee-based liqueur, but this is not mentioned in the original recipe. The original tiramisu made at Le Beccherie was circular in shape.[33]
    Variations
    Tiramisu birthday cake
The original shape of the cake is round, although the shape of the biscuits also allows the use of a rectangular or square pan. However, it is often assembled in round glasses, which show the various layers, or pyramids. Modern versions can have the addition of whipped cream or whipped egg whites, or both, combined with the mascarpone. This makes the dish lighter, thick and foamy. Among the most common alcoholic changes includes the addition of Marsala wine. The cake is usually eaten cold.[34]
Another variation involves the preparation of the cream with eggs heated to sterilize it, but not so much that the eggs scramble. Over time, replacing some of the ingredients, mainly coffee, there arose numerous variants such as tiramisu with chocolate, amaretto, berry, lemon, strawberry, pineapple, yoghurt, banana, raspberry, and coconut.
Numerous variations of tiramisu exist. Some cooks use other cakes or sweet, yeasted bread, such as panettone, in place of ladyfingers (savoiardi).[35] Bakers living in different Italian regions often debate the use and structural qualities of utilising other types of cookies, such as pavesini for instance, in the recipe.[36] Other cheese mixtures are used as well, some containing raw eggs, and others containing no eggs at all. Marsala wine can be added to the recipe, but other liquors are frequently substituted for it in both the coffee and the cheese mixture, including dark rum, Madeira, port, brandy, Malibu, or Irish cream and especially coffee-flavoured liqueurs such as Tia Maria and Kahlúa.[37] Amaretto liqueurs, such as Disaronno, are also often used to enhance the taste of tiramisu.[citation needed]
Tiramisu is similar to other desserts, in particular with the Charlotte, in some versions composed of a Bavarian cream surrounded by a crown of ladyfingers and covered by a sweet cream; the Turin cake (dolce Torino), consisting of ladyfingers soaked in rosolio and alchermes with a spread made of butter, egg yolks, sugar, milk, and dark chocolate; and the bavarese lombarda, which is a similar composition of ladyfingers and egg yolks (albeit cooked ones). In bavarese, butter and rosolio (or alchermes) are also used, but not mascarpone cream or coffee.[citation needed]

    It has amazing features.
You can draw on the stylus.
You can play amazing games on it. Like Super Mario 3D World, New Super Mario Bros. U, New Super Luigi U, Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze, Mario Kart 8, Captain Toad Treasure Tracker, Hyrule Warriors, Super Smash Bros for Wii U, and many more.
Plus you can use the Wii u game pad for star throwing.
And you can even play with the game pad while someone else’s watching TV.

I bought a refurb Wii U in 2014 specifically to play BOTW, but it kept getting delayed. Now, the Wii U actually had a great first party library. As proven by how well all the Switch ports have done. But IMO, the problem with the Iwata era of Nintendo was having gimmicks lead game design. Worked for the Wii and DS, but it wasn't sustainable. The tablet didn't make the games play better. Again as proven by the Switch ports, where that functionality got removed. Marketing for the console was also really weird. Not only due to the confusion over the name, but also that ads were often hokey, heavily targeted at kids, and rarely featured any actual gameplay or showed off the console's unique features. There were also substantial teething problems. There was an article on Eurogamer back during the Wii U's life where an anonymous Western dev spilled the beans about its challenges. How programming was difficult, made all the more difficult by lack of English language technical support. How the console was deliberately made small and underpowered to not be intrusive for parents. How hardware and major software changes were still being made right up to the 11th hour. Whole thing was a hot mess right from the start. This is why you saw a huge shift with the Switch back to something that was more traditional, and used marketing (which actually showed gameplay this time) targeted at young adults.

People trash the WiiU but I have a lot of memories using the backwards compatible Wii feature than I do a lot of times with the switch. The Wii/WiiU had a massive library of really charming and iconic games, while the switch only has a few Nintendo titles that are a few years old (Zelda, Odyssey, Smash, Animal Crossing, Metroid); most of its library is composed of Indie Games. Let's not forget that most of the bangers were released 5 years ago like Zelda and Mario. So I guess I had a lot of great memories with the Wii U/Wii over the switch because they had a lot more exclusives and charm, with the switch they maybe have 6 Nintendo games that were good, but at that point why not just own a PC. Nintendo has lost their sense of identity I think; they want to become others consoles with none of the sparks that they had before, so it's a question of why not just get other consoles. I still remember playing New Super Mario, Mario Galaxy, Mario kart, Punch Out Wii, Guitar Hero, Twilight Princess, Olympic Games, good Mario Party, Windwaker, Smash Brawl, and even the Snes games you could purchase on the wii shop for like a dollar and own forever that you didn't have to have a subscription to get. Also the Wii /Wii U had like hundreds of these weird-ass five dollar games you could buy for a five year old at your local gamestore to keep them entertained like Shrek Carnival or some shit, kind of charming in a way.

So, the WiiU was my first Nintendo home console. I'd had handhelds but never grew up with it, and knew a lot of people way into the Nintendo hype. So I got the WiiU on launch to finally see what all the fuss was about.
You can guess how that turned out. I was really disappointed my first investment in a Nintendo system went so poorly.
When the switch finally launched, I was so salty seeing everyone I know play it, that I homebrewed and modded the heck out of my WiiU.
Since then, it's become one of my favorite consoles. It really is a dream for homebrew and emulation, and the game pad makes even DS emulation workable in a capacity that isnt too far from the original experience.

Just recently got a wii u for the first time just to play Xenoblade X and modded it just last week. It is one of the BEST way to play DS games. Back when the wii u released I really wanted one, but never had the money for it. Getting it way later, though, its a lot better than I thought it was. Modded; modding makes it so much better. Its like the perfect retro console because it can also play DS and Wii games which have very specific control schemes.
